One summer night,a boy felt himself lifted from bed by his father.Dazed with sleep,he saw stars flashing across the sky.“What is it?” the child whispered.“Shooting stars. They come every year in August.” Decades have passed, but I remember that night still, because I was the fortunate boy whose father believed a new experience was more important than an unbroken night's sleep.
Some parents like my father have the gift of opening doors for their children. This art of adding dimensions to a child brings the reward: the marvelous moment when the spark bursts into a flame that will burn brightly on its own one day.At a Golf Association tournament,a ten-year-old girl played creditably.“How long have you been interested in golf?” someone asked.“I got it for my ninth birthday,” she said.“ Your father gave you a set of clubs?” “No,” she said,“he gave me golf.”
I have a friend,a psychiatrist, who says there are two types of people: those who think of life as a privilege and those who think of it as a problem. The first type is enthusiastic and energetic. The other type is suspicious and self-centered.And he adds,“Tell me about your childhood and I can tell you which type you are likely to be.”
The real purpose, then,of trying to open doors for children is to build eager and outgoing attitudes, which is the most valuable legacy we can pass on to the next generation. But why don't we work harder at it Probably because sometimes we don't have the awareness or the selflessness or the energy. And yet,for those of us who care what becomes of our children, the challenge is always there but the opportunities also come repeatedly. Many years have passed since that night. And next year, when August comes with its shooting stars,my son will be seven.

Are you really boring Or is it just in your head The first crucial step, which you absolutely mustn't skip,is to question this idea that you are boring, check it rationally, and try to determine if indeed it's true.
You see,of all the people I've coached over the last 7+ years who believed they're boring, getting to know them and their conversation style, for well over half of them I've concluded that this belief was just in their head.It was a false, limiting belief; and they came to see that too. So,statistically, there is at least a 50% chance that you're not really boring.Think about this, very seriously.
If indeed you discover that the idea you're boring is mostly a limiting belief, then it's important to begin ignoring it and change your behavior accordingly.Try to open up,talk to people more and be more social, reminding yourself it's okay to do so.
More important thought is to understand that the limiting belief you're boring reflects a lack of confidence, and work on fixing this deeper issue.Only by learning to believe in yourself and gaining self-confidence will you be able to fully and permanently dismiss the perception that you are boring.
Now,confidence building is not invaluable process. It involves certain steps and actions, which if done correctly, lead to visible progress at a rapid pace.I lack the space here to go deeper into this topic, but I have created a special presentation in which I discuss it in detail.
Go here to watch the presentation and learn my step-by-step process for improving your self-confidence and social confidence, which has been used successfully by hundreds of people before you.And make sure you watch it all the way.

Some insects contain poisons that do not affect an insect-eating bird until after the bird has swallowed one of them.Being swallowed is almost always fatal for these insects. How does an insect benefit by containing a poison that is effective only after it has been killed and eaten
This paradox (悖论) is resolved once we realize that birds, which are made ill by the poison but are rarely killed by it,soon learn to recognize the warning signals of poisonous insects and reject them on sight.Eating a poisonous insect is an educational experience for predators, and thus the death of the insect victim serves to protect other members of its own species.
On one hand,if these other members of the species are relatives of the victim—perhaps its own offspring, siblings,or first cousins—their genetic makeup will be similar to the victim's,and many of the victim's genes will survive in them.
On the other hand,an insect's survival fitness is not improved if it kills the bird that eats it.Indeed, the victim benefits if the bird survives after eating the victim and becoming aware of its poisonous properties.
How come Most birds are territorial. They live in a small and delimited area from which they keep out members of their own species other than their mates. If the poisonous insect species does live within,or at least pass through, the territory of a bird, the bird will leave them alone because it has been taught not to attack them by the death of their relative. But if the territory-holding bird is killed,it will almost
immediately be replaced by a wandering member of its own species,a floater that is still searching for a territory of its own. When an experienced predator that has learned not to attack the insects in question is replaced by a floater that happens to be inexperienced, the relatives of the insect victim do not benefit from its death. Thus protective systems based on benign poisons are far more likely to evolve and continue than systems based on deadly poisons.

How to Turn Your Dreams into a Reality
Do you have dreams, visions or plans about things you'd love to have or achieve Of course you do! We all do.Unfortunately, dreaming is the easy part. 16 The good news is that there are proven techniques that can get you from where you are to where you want to be.Follow this process to bring your dreams to reality:
Turn your dream into a goal.
When you have a goal, you have a true target. For a greater chance of success, your plan should have a deadline and it must be measurable. 17 Give yourself the gift of setting a deadline and things will start to happen.Make your goal as desirable as possible without being unrealistic. If you feel that your goal is unreasonable,it's much more difficult to encourage yourself to actually pursue it.
Prioritize your goal daily.
18 You give instructions to your brain thousands of times a day.Let your mind know that your goal is something more important than “I feel like eating a ham sandwich” or “I need to stop at the grocery store on the way home”.
Difficult goals can rarely be achieved alone; you're likely to need some help and guidance.Look at the list you have made and see what you already have in your life that could help you on your path.
Track your progress.
Measure your progress each day.Use old fashioned paper and pencil or take advantage of the latest smartphone app. 20 You can only adjust your approach if you know how you're doing.Consider making a chart if that's applicable to your goal.
A.Classify your available resources.
B.Make a list of negative associations.
C.Read and write your goal each day.
D.Turning those dreams into a reality is the challenge.
E.Tracking is critical to making continued progress.
F.It has been said that dreams are goals without a deadline.
G.So make a list of all the negative stuff that slips into your mind.

18.C [根据本段小标题“Prioritize your goal daily.”可知,C项“读出并写下你每天的目标”与本段内容相一致。]

“What happened?” she asked with concern. Then the salesman told Adam's mother in details about what the little boy had done.Adam's mother was very angry with him.She quickly took the toy car and gave it back to the salesman. On their way back home,Adam's mother scolded Adam seriously and asked him why he did that.Adam replied that he did that just because he wanted the toy car desperately.
After they got home,Adam went to his room and regretted having done that. He started to think why he did that just for a toy car.He went to his parents and said sorry to them for stealing things in the store. His mother forgave him and told Adam not to do that again because it is not right to steal anything. He also learned what his mother was trying to teach him.Even his family had enough money to buy things,he had to find out whether he really needed a thing or just wanted it.
