On a nearly winter afternoon,my dad and I decided to climb the Carpathian Mountains, about 4,500 feet high.Having spent spring, summer, and early fall climbing the mountains,I felt confident I'd have no trouble in climbing it.
The hillside we started was rather sloping. This side of the mountain was covered with a pine forest. The trees were incredibly high and thick; their knotted large roots cut the ground here and there, forming natural footsteps and making the climbing a little bit easier. The air was fresh and clean. After about 30 minutes of climbing,we heard the sound of a stream and rushed to it for a drink.
After about two hours of climbing, the road became harder and more dangerous.Watching the steep and rocky climb ahead,I knew I was finished. My original confidence gave way to tiredness completely. My knees were in great pain and my legs were trembling. To make matters worse, snowflakes were starting to fall and strong winds were gathering around me.I hopelessly stared at my dad.“Dad,let's go back.I can't move an inch,” I said tiredly with tears pooling in my eyes.
“Just one small step at a time,” Dad encouraged me.“We need to keep moving.” “I can't.” I insisted.“You can.Just take one small step at a time.Keep your eyes focused on your feet and on me.” Dad held my hands tightly as he continued to encourage me.“Just one small step at a time,” Dad repeated as we climbed together. Some of my steps were so small that we hardly moved at all,but I believe in the power in his words.

People are less willing to rely on their knowledge and say they know something when they have access to the Internet. That suggests that our connection to the Internet is affecting how we think.Professor Evan F.Risko led a study where 100 participants faced general knowledge questions, such as naming the capital of France. For half of the study,

participants had access to the Internet. They had to look up the answer when they said that they did not know the answer. In the other half of the study, participants who did not have access to the Internet did differently.
The team found that the people who had access to the Internet were about 5 percent more likely to say that they did not know the answer to the question. And the people with access to the Internet reported feeling as though they knew less.“When a large amount of information is within reach, people seem less likely to rely on their own knowledge,” said Professor Risko.
Through the results, the researchers held that access to the Internet might make it less acceptable to say you know something but are incorrect. It is also possible that participants were more likely to say they didn't know an answer when they had access to the Internet, because online searching offers a chance to confirm their answer or satisfy their curiosity.
“Our results suggest that access to the Internet affects the decisions we make about what we know and don't know.We hope this research is helpful in our growing understanding of how easily access to large amounts of information can influence our thinking.” Risko said and planned to further the research in this area.

2.Why did those with the Internet depend less on their knowledge
A.They knew a little about the answers.
B.They wanted to avoid making mistakes.
C.They could not give the correct answers.
D.They were curious about other people's lives.

Whenever my nine-year-old daughter approached me,eyes wide, with a notebook and a pen, telling me she wanted to engage in a game of school, something inside me froze. There was a mental block so huge that it felt like I was being asked by someone to make a presentation about artificial intelligence. So, nine times out of ten,I made an excuse.
Why is it so hard to play with my child?I realize this is because I have no idea how to play.I have many happy memories of my youth, but absolutely none involves playing with dolls or building blocks with my parents.I don't blame them because they never played with these things as children either. When I asked them what their childhoods were like, they told me that their parents were busy working to support their families, leaving them with limited time for physical activity and active play.
There are studies showing how important play is for a child's growth, and no end of people campaigning for their young to get more of it at school. The poet Michael Rosen argues play is not an extra and all of us, whatever age, could do with more silliness in our lives.
As Rosen explains,“The need for adults to be productive members of society means we end up thinking of things that make us laugh, or which are fun to do, as not being very significant or having very little value.”This is exactly why we need to play more.It lightens the load of life and allows us to get back to a childlike state of wonder.
Play is vital to health. And it is why I've started playing school games with my daughter.I managed an entire hour and a half the other day—and afterwards, I felt happy and 20 years younger.
5.How did the author use to respond to her daughter's request for a game
A.She pretended to be surprised.
B.She apologized for being busy.
C.She chose to avoid involvement.
D.She turned to artificial intelligence.
根据第一段最后一句“So,nine times out of ten, I made an excuse.”
√
6.What does the author focus on while giving an explanation in paragraph 2
A.The game category.
B.Memory strategies.
C.The generation gap.
D.Childhood experiences.
√
根据第二段中的“I realize this is...I have many happy memories of my youth, but absolutely none involves playing with dolls or building blocks with my parents.”
7.Which of the following would Rosen probably agree with
A.Laughter is the best medicine.
B.Play is not only intended for children.
C.Thinking like a kid frees people of stress.
D.Staying curious makes a productive worker.
根据第三段中的“The poet...in our lives.”
√
8.What does the author want to convey in the text
A.Children grow up well in a fun environment.
B.Family interaction strengthens the parent-child tie.
C.Parents owe it to their children to play more with them.
D.Games are essential for children both at school and at home.
√

根据文章最后一段“We hope this research is helpful in our growing understanding of how easily access to large amounts of information can influence our thinking.”可知,this area指代上句中“how easily access to large amounts of information can influence our thinking.”,D项“The influence of access to the Internet on us.(上网对我们的影响。)”
根据第一段最后一句“So,nine times out of ten, I made an excuse.”
根据第二段中的“I realize this is... I have many happy memories of my youth, but absolutely none involves playing with dolls or building blocks with my parents.”
根据第三段中的“The poet...in our lives.”
