A
San Francisco is quickly becoming one of the most visited cities in the U. S. “The City by the Bay” packs a lot of must-see spots in just a 7 mile-by-7 mile area.
Bathe in the sun at Dolores Park
San Francisco is known for its fog but certain areas of the city receive a surprising amount of sunshine, especially in fall. If you catch the city on a sunny day, head to Dolores Park in the Mission. It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but if you can push in on a piece of grass, buy a cup of ice cream from nearby Bi-Rite Creamery and enjoy yourself.
See the Mission Murals (壁画)
Although San Francisco has plenty of museums, you don’t need to pay entry to enjoy some art. The Mission neighborhood has plenty of street art and murals that reflect the culture and history of the community. My personal favorite is the mural on the Women’s Building. Don’t miss it!
Visit Haight Ashbury
Another important part of San Francisco’s identity is its hippie (嬉皮) culture. During the, ‘60s and ‘70s, Haight Ashbury was home to famous singers like Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. Now the neighborhood is full of hippie memories and street art honoring the anniversary of 1967’s Summer of Love.
Eat Italian at North Beach
Traditional Italian food may not be the first cuisine that comes to mind when thinking of San Francisco, but you may leave the city daydreaming about it. North Beach is the Italian neighborhood and you’ll find plenty of delicious fresh Italian food to fill your stomach.
21.When is San Francisco most sunny
A.In spring. B.In summer. C.In autumn. D.In winter.
22.What can we know about the Mission Murals
A.There are many murals on the streets. B.There are few murals in the museums.
C.They are about the future life. D.They are the best murals in the world.
23.Where may music-lovers choose to go
A.North Beach. B.Haight Ashbury. C.Dolores Park. D.Mission neighborhood.

Oliver’s journey with tai chi began in her early 20s, when she was suffering from a back injury, which left her lying in bed for six months.
“As an active youngster at that time, I couldn’t bear resting in bed,” she explained. “My muscles became wasted and stiff(僵直的) for lack of use, and I was often in a lot of pains. So, I felt that some physical exercise would help.”
She then discovered tai chi when she spotted by chance a poster advertising classes and decided to try the mysterious and exotic(异国的) sport. Oliver was immediately struck by the gentle and beautiful movements of tai chi, and to her delight, found that her occasional pains disappeared after years of practice.
“It not only helps me improve physical strength, but also provides me with many mental benefits, such as improved mood and focus, and less anxiety and depression,” she added.
To further understand tai chi and the Chinese philosophy behind it, Oliver decided to begin a journey to China. In 2005, Oliver established the Double Dragon Alliance Cultural Center, which acts as a bridge for foreign people seeking to gain a better understanding of Chinese culture. The center supports kung fu masters in teaching martial arts(武术) and organizes events for people to experience various aspects of Chinese culture.
Apart from her tai chi classes, Oliver now serves as the director of the British Cultural Center at Shanghai University. Reflecting on her work, Oliver said, “For quite many years, my work is actually like a cultural bridge. If you don’t have someone in the middle who is appreciative of all the cultures and have the desire to connect people, then it’s hard for them to get to know each other. I hope I can be the bridge to bring people close together. We need to foster mutual understanding among cultures to promote peaceful relations and friendship across the globe.”
24.Why did Oliver try tai chi
A.To solve a mystery. B.To recover physical state.
C.To treat her mental illness. D.To advance her knowledge of China.
25.How was Oliver after practicing tai chi
A.Her health condition improved. B.She became talkative.
C.Her pain came less often. D.She became open-minded.
26.What does Oliver mainly do in Shanghai
A.Give kung fu performances. B.Learn Chinese philosophy.
C.Bring kung fu masters together. D.Promote cultural exchange.
27.What is a suitable title for the text
A.Try Tai Chi to Relieve Pain
B.Tai Chi: a Global Cultural Bridge
C.A British Tai Chi Lover Builds Cultural Bridge in China
D.Tai Chi Enjoys Great Popularity Around the World

Do you need to throw your smartphone away to live your best life Not necessarily, according to researchers from Ruhr-Universit t Bochum who suggest that we could all benefit from cutting down on screen time — just only a little bit time.
On average, we spend more than three hours a day glued to our smartphone screens. Between social media, news feeds, endless video games, and an app for pretty much everything else, there’s always something to draw our attention. In recent years, studies have blamed smartphones for modern problems ranging from rising anxiety rates to neck pain. It begs the question: Are people all really better off switching back to landlines (座机)
“The smartphone is both a blessing and a curse(诅咒),” says study leader Dr. Julia Brailovskaia, whose team set out to answer that question by gathering together 619 volunteers, hoping to know how much the smartphone is good for us. Two hundred people put their smartphones completely aside for a week; 226 reduced the amount of time they used the device by one hour a day; 193 people didn’t change anything in their behavior.
Researchers interviewed each person about both their overall lifestyle habits and well-being four months later after the experimental week ended. “We found that both completely giving up the smartphone and reducing its daily use by one hour had positive effects on the well-being of the participants,” as Brailovskaia sums up the upshots. Notably, changing their smartphone habits for just one week appeared to produce lasting outcomes among subjects. Even four months afterward, participants who were told to avoid using their smartphones totally were using their phones for an average of 38 minutes less per day.
Meanwhile, the “one hour less” group were using their phones as much as 45 minutes less per day after four months. This group also showed improved life satisfaction, more exercise, and less depression.
“It’s not necessary to completely give up the smartphone to feel better,” Brailovskaia concludes.
28.What’s the purpose of Paragraph 2
A.To answer the question on the smartphones.
B.To explain why the experiment was done.
C.To state disadvantages of the experiment.
D.To stress the benefits of smartphones.
29.What did the researchers do to the volunteers before testing them
A.They trained them. B.They interviewed them.
C.They divided them into groups. D.They gave them a physical exam.
30.Which word can replace the underlined word “upshots” in Paragraph 4
A.Purposes. B.Reasons. C.Doubts. D.Results.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.Fewer Smartphones, More Well-being
B.No Smartphone Use Is the Best Policy
C.Smartphones Are a Part of Our Lives
D.A Small Smartphone, Two Big Sides
D
In recent years, seasonal allergies(过敏症), also called hay fever or allergic rhinitis(过敏性鼻炎),have been hitting people around the world especially hard. Seasonal allergies cause people to have such symptoms(症状) as sneezing, tiredness, a runny nose or a congested(堵塞的) nose which makes it hard for people to breathe.
In 2021, as many as 81 million Americans experienced seasonal allergies, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The main cause for seasonal allergies is the spread of pollen(花粉), and researchers are blaming climate change for it.
As the planet warms, scientists are seeing two main changes to allergy seasons. Allergy season length is longer and pollen levels are increasing. With warmer winter temperatures, the frost-free season starts earlier in the spring and ends later in the fall. In a research done by William Anderegg, an associate professor at the University of Utah, US, he saw pollen seasons starting about 20 days earlier this year than they did in the 1990s.
Pollen levels have also been increasing in the US. Anderegg’s research found about a 21percent increase in the amount of pollen in the air from 1990 to 2018.
This increase is likely fueled by a combination of higher temperatures and higher carbon dioxide levels in the air, according to Anderegg. The burning of fossil fuels — a primary cause of global warming — increases carbon dioxide. As CO levels go up, plants and trees produce more pollen, according to NBC.
Increased rainfall brought on by global warming may be making allergies worse too. “Thunderstorms, pressure changes, and humidity changes that we see through climate change break down pollen spores (孢子) into even smaller pieces, and these pollen spores can then more easily enter the lungs,” Brooke Lappe, a doctoral student at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, said to NBC.
32.Which is not mentioned as a symptom of allergies
A.Fever. B.Sneezing. C.A blocked nose. D.A runny nose.
33.What influence does climate change have on allergy seasons
A.Pollen seasons start earlier. B.Allergy seasons last shorter.
C.Pollen levels are increasing in the UK. D.Allergy seasons do less harm to people.
34.What can we infer from the passage
A.Allergy seasons last all around the year.
B.Global warming decreases rainfall sharply.
C.Smaller pollen spores tend to worsen allergies.
D.Higher carbon dioxide levels reduce pollen levels.
35.What’s the author’s main purpose in writing the passage
A.To give advice on how to deal with allergies.
B.To explain why seasonal allergies are worse.
C.To draw people’s attention to climate change.
D.To inform readers of the seriousness of seasonal allergies.

Tom picked up the newspaper that was lying on the sofa. He noticed a large advertisement on the front page. The local department store was sponsoring(赞助)a contest. “Tell us why your mom is special and win a beautiful and precious gift for her.” said the advertisement.
“This is perfect!” thought Tom. He ran to his room with the newspaper. After taking a pencil and a blank piece of paper from his desk, he started to write.
“My mom is the best mother in the world. She always makes lunch for me to take to school and she never forgets my dessert. She reads as many books to me before bed as I want her to. She always remembers to check under the bed for monsters(怪兽). And she gives me the best hug, but never in front of my friends, who may laugh at me for hugging my mom.”
Tom liked what he had written. He copied it neatly and got an envelope and a stamp. He ran to the mailbox with his entry(参赛作品). “Mom will love having a special gift,” he thought.

Then Tom thought he could show his love for his mother in another way. He searched in his drawers and fortunately found a piece of delicate paper. He sat down straight on his chair, and began to write a letter in his best handwriting as a Mother’s Day present. “Dear Mom, I’m writing this to tell you that you are the best mother in the world…” With a sincere heart. Tom finished the letter and put it in an envelope with a smile on his face.
On Mother’s Day, Tom gave his mother the envelope with the letter in it. She opened it and found the letter. Having finishing reading the letter, his mom swept him up into her arms(抱进怀里)with her eyes wet. “Thank you, my dear!” she said, hugging Tom more tightly.
