Joel stared at the ground.Rather,he stared at what was lying on the ground: a robotic glove. It was made of metal, with black and yellow paint.Joel looked around his backyard. How did a robotic glove end up next to his dad's vegetable garden
In any case,Joel had found it.And no one else was around.
That meant only one thing: finders keepers.Wasn't that how finders keepers worked If you found something and couldn't find the owner,it was yours.
The robotic glove was now Joel's.Picking up the glove,Joel realised it wasn't as heavy as he expected it would be.Even though it was much bigger than his own hand,he decided to try it on.
He slipped his hand inside and felt the machine come to life.It beeped(发出哔哔声)three times.Joel moved his fingers, and the robot fingers moved too.Joel walked over to a large tree branch that had fallen in his yard and wrapped the robotic fingers around it.He lifted the branch. It should have been heavy, but with the glove it was no heavier than a small branch.
He couldn't believe it.Maybe it was a kind of antigravity machine reported in the newspaper.
Now,what was he going to do with it
Joel's mum was inside rearranging the furniture. He could walk in and say “Do you need a hand with that?”before easily picking up the couch and setting it somewhere else.
At the library,he could say “Let me help” and carry in a tall stack of boxes filled with books. At the park,he could say “How about eating lunch over there?”and carry the picnic table to a shady spot.
Everything would feel as light as a pencil. He'd feel like a superhero.
But first,he wanted to show his dad what he'd found. He started running towards the front yard. That's when he heard someone call,“Has anyone seen my robotic glove?”Joel stopped short.
Near the garage, his dad was talking to their new next-door neighbor,Mr Shore.
“I haven't seen a robotic glove,”Joel's dad said.

Who Joel,Mr Shore,Joel's mum and dad
When a usual day
Where Joel's backyard
What Joel found a robotic glove in his backyard and how he dealt with it.
Paragraph 1:How did Joel deal with the glove?→felt caught in a dilemma →seeing the disappointment on Mr Shore's face→ called out,“I found it!”→Mr Shore's face lit up with relief→gave it to his neighbor
Paragraph 2:How to help his mother without the glove?→his dream of being a superhero faded away→Mr Shore held the glove out to Joel → he lifted the heavy couch effortlessly →Mum surprised→Joel felt like a superhero again

Joel's eyes widened when he realised the glove belonged to Mr Shore.Staring at it,he felt caught in a dilemma, though he knew finders keepers didn't work if you found the owner. However, seeing the disappointment on Mr Shore's face,he took a deep breath and called out,“I found it!”Mr Shore's face lit up with relief.Joel ran over, took off the glove, and gave it to his neighbor.“I found it in the backyard,” Joel said.“I tried it on and I could lift a huge branch. It's amazing.”
Just then,Joel's mum called out,“Help me move the couch!” He hesitated because without the glove, his dream of being a superhero faded away.He felt so upset.Everyone looked at each other—and then everyone looked at the glove.Mr Shore held it out to Joel with a giant smile.“Would you like to use it?” “Yes,please.” Joel's smile was as big as Mr Shore's.Slipping his hand inside the glove,he lifted the heavy couch effortlessly as if it was a small branch.Mum stood there, eyes wide open.Joel felt like a superhero again!

My dad believed in new experiences!
I have to admit the examples from his youth fascinated me.He specialised in his adventures growing up in Omaha in the early 1900s.His brothers threw him into a lake to teach him to swim. His family kept a cow to give Baby Jesus milk at the age of four.On and on! He used those stories to urge me into fresh experiences.
One day he came home from work early and saw me watching a local TV show—Talent Sprouts,a daily contest for kids fourteen and under. It didn't take Dad long to look me in the eye.“You should go on Talent Sprouts,” He added. “You can play ‘Ave Maria’—an original by Schubert (舒伯特).Think of it—an unforgettable experience to be on TV as an eleven-year-old!”
I quailed (退缩).I didn't want to.I was basically shy.But I knew it would be useless to argue,so I mailed my application with the required information.Days later,I received a notice about the performance.
Dad was over the moon when I told him I had been assigned a day to perform the task that had been prepared for less than two weeks.Still,I had very little confidence in my talent.I did practise several times each day. However,I either skipped some beats or was unable to grasp the rhythm well when practising.I could never have played Schubert's original perfectly,so I was increasingly uneasy about the coming performance.
When my Monday came,I took a bus to the TV station with my dad.I checked in at the desk. The host of Talent Sprouts, and the musical director welcomed the participants and described the routine for us.Everything was fresh there. The crew in the auditorium pushed big cameras on wheels and adjusted lights.I waited on the seat and soon I was called.

I went to the piano and began to play.Easy,so easy! Fun almost...right up to the coda at the end.I suddenly realised I should not be at the end! My heart jumped to my mouth.I had skipped a part—a huge part. How did that happen Taking a deep breath,I calmed down.Somehow my brain went to work and I continued playing.I tried to smile at the camera and played the rest smoothly as if no skipping had happened. After what seemed an eternity,I stopped playing. However,it turned out that my performance had probably lasted barely a minute.
Disappointed,I returned to my seat, where my dad was waiting for me.Surely the result was as expected—I wasn't the winner. On my way home,I surprised myself by feeling more relieved than disappointed.I could not pretend that my performance was the best.In truth, the other three were far superior. When I talked about “The Big Skip”,Dad smiled,“It may not have been noticed by someone who doesn't know Schubert's ‘Ave Maria’.Your movement was smooth. You didn't fall apart. All in all,a worthwhile experience.”

A
Those who are concerned that robots are taking over the world can rest easy—for now.Though the androids (机器人) have proved useful at performing ordinary tasks, they are not ready for the greatest time.At least that appears to be the case at Japan's Henn-na Hotel chain where over half of the robot staff are being replaced by humans.
The first location of the unique hotel opened in July 2015 was at Nagasaki's Huis Ten Bosch Theme Park. The hotel's owner,Hideo Sawada, promised the hotel to be managed primarily by robots.Guests were greeted and checked-in by a dinosaur robot, while a cute android called Churi, placed inside each room, provided information about attractions. Not surprisingly, the lodging, recognized in 2016 as the world's first robot-staffed hotel by Guinness World Records, drew in curious visitors from all around the world.
But as the years have passed, the hotel's main draw is becoming less novel and more unsatisfactory. Also as the robots are “aging”, they are costing more to repair.Among the 283 androids being replaced are the chain's two dinosaur receptionists. In addition to scaring young guests, they are also unable to photocopy guests' passports, forcing human employees to step in each time. Also out are the cute Churirobots, which annoyed guests by interrupting their conversations. For example, one guest told The Wall Street Journal that Churi mistook his snoring (打鼾) for a command and kept asking him to repeat his request all night.
Sawada told The Wall Street Journal,“When you actually use robots you realise there are places where they aren't needed—or just annoy people.” While Sawada may be cutting back on his use of androids, the recently-opened Smart LYZ Hotel and the Fly Zoo Hotel in China, are run entirely by robots, with not a human in sight.Whether the employees have more competence than those “hired” by the Henn-na Hotel chain remains to be seen.
1.What makes Japan's Henn-na Hotel unique
A.Its advanced equipment.
B.Its robot employees.
C.Its convenient location.
D.Its successful management.
2.Why does the author mention the example of one guest in paragraph 3
A.To entertain readers.
B.To introduce Churi's functions.
C.To prove Churi's disadvantage.
D.To persuade people not to book the hotel.
3.What does the owner of Japan's Henn-na Hotel think of his robot staff now
A.Disappointing. B.Attractive.
C.Pioneering. D.Costly.
4.What is the best title for the text
A.Robots Are Taking over the World
B.Robot Staff Are Fired for No Competence
C.Robots-staffed Hotel Is Booming
D.The First Robots-staffed Hotel Won Guinness World Record
B
In today's world, robots serve people as first-responders,companions and problem-solvers.And you find them in various places from the operating table to the kitchen and classrooms.Advances in artificial intelligence allow robots to perfect important functions beyond human capabilities.
As the older population desire to stay in their homes, effectively designed robots are needed to help make this demand a safer and more sustainable(可持续的) option.Another change in health care is that robots have already been used in over 20,000 operations.Surgical(外科的)robots like the da Vinci Surgical Systems are great examples of cutting-edge robotic technology.Besides, instead of going to a brick building to see a physician, patients will be checked by robots.
At home, household robots can help people save time. You can schedule a warm meal to be ready when you return from work.Robotic cookers can steam, fry, cook and bake as long as you set them up.These robots are bound to develop into more advanced versions in the upcoming years and could change the look and feel of our homes.
As we know,a single teacher doesn't have the ability to meet the needs of personalized learning for every student in a classroom. This is where computer-based learning comes into play; it doesn't replace the teacher but allows students to learn at their own pace.Robots will continue to boost personalized learning. The human-like robot NAO works to form bonds with students and comes with senses of natural interaction, from listening, speaking, moving and connecting with students.
Today, robots of all types are being designed to reduce the workload, complement human skill sets and enable professionals to focus on more important activities.Robots are meant to make human life easier and offer a more comfortable future. As technology advances and becomes more affordable,it is expected to see more changes and more industries embracing robots and all they can do to boost our standard of living.
5.What do we know about surgical robots
A.They are to be put into use soon.
B.They can fully replace physicians.
C.They play an important role in health care.
D.They are more popular than the other robots.
6.What is the main function of the robot NAO
A.Performing operations.
B.Promoting personalized learning.
C.Monitoring patients.
D.Making meals.
7.How is the text organized
A B C D
8.What is the text mainly about
A.Robots are vital in health care.
B.More robots are needed to develop.
C.Robots are changing the world.
D.Robots will help fight against pandemics.

Dear Allen,
I hope this email finds you well.I recently participated in our school's weeklong “Healthy Lifestyle” theme series, and I wanted to share it with you.
It was a great event filled with both education and handson opportunities. We had informative seminars on nutrition and exercise, interactive workshops on cooking and mindfulness, sports competitions, and fitness sessions.Personally,I found it enlightening and inspiring.I've learned about the importance of balanced nutrition and regular exercise and gained practical skills to incorporate healthy habits into my daily routine.
Take care and let's catch up soon!
Yours,
Li Hua
根据第二段中“The hotel's owner,Hideo Sawada, promised the hotel to be managed primarily by robots.(酒店老板Hideo Sawada承诺,酒店将主要由机器人管理)”和“Not surprisingly, the lodging, recognized in 2016 as the world's first robotstaffed hotel by Guinness World Records, drew in curious visitors from all around the world.”
第三段中的“Also out are the cute Churirobots, which annoyed guests by interrupting their conversations.”提到Churirobot机器人会惹恼客人,接着下文“For example, one guest told The Wall Street Journal that Churi mistook his snoring for a command and kept asking him to repeat his request all night.”
根据最后一段中的“Sawada told The Wall Street Journal,‘When you actually use robots you realise there are places where they aren't needed — or just annoy people.’”
根据全文内容尤其是第一段中的“At least that appears to be the case at Japan's Hennna Hotel chain where over half of the robot staff are being replaced by humans.”
根据第二段中的“Surgical robots like the da Vinci Surgical Systems are great examples of cuttingedge robotic technology.Besides, instead of going to a brick building to see a physician, patients will be checked by robots.”
根据第四段中的“Robots will continue to boost personalized learning. The humanlike robot NAO works...connecting with students.”
分析全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了当今世界机器人能够完成超出人类能力的重要任务,分别介绍了外科机器人、家用机器人和类人机器人这三类机器人,并结合最后一段中的“As technology advances and becomes more affordable,it is expected to see more changes and more industries embracing robots and all they can do to boost our standard of living.(随着技术的进步及变得让人们更加能负担得起,预计人们会看到更多的变化,更多的行业接纳机器人,以及它们为提高我们的生活水平所做的一切。)”
