My __27__ problem of all is learning how to act at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are very different __28__ the way they are at home.

When I first arrived in China, I knew little Chinese. And some of the Chinese words I __31__ had something to do with food. I learned the names of a few dishes, but still didn't know most of the things I saw on Chinese restaurant menus. Luckily, there were __32__.
Nearly every restaurant menu in China has pictures of food __33__ it. But many restaurants I've been to in the US don't. What is the __34__ for the difference
One thing I've definitely (明确地) __35__ about China is that food is a bigger part of their culture than it is in the US. A common way to __36__ someone in China is to ask them if they've eaten yet. Food is just a bigger deal here—and having pictures of food on menus is part of that. Some menus are almost like works of art, with beautiful photos.
Another thing is the __37__ of the dishes. Chinese dishes sometimes have fanciful (别出心裁的)names like “palace guard chicken” or “three fresh things from the soil”. These are interesting names, but they don't really tell you __38__ the dishes are like. Therefore, it's __39__ to have pictures so that you can actually see what you are going to eat.

http:www.chinadaily./Culture/traditional Chinese solar terms
The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms (节气). They're very useful for people's life and work. Let's have a look.
The Start of Spring is the first solar term of the year. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. After the Start of Spring, the daytime is becoming longer and the weather is becoming warmer. And people eat spring pancakes and spring rolls on the day.
The Summer Solstice is the 10th solar term. At this time, much of the northern hemisphere (北半球) receives the most hours of daylight, but it is not the hottest time in a year. The hottest days often come 20 to 30 days later. People have a tradition of eating noodles on the day.
The Autumnal Equinox is the 16th solar term. On this day, day and night are of equal length (等长). After this day, days get shorter and nights get longer in the northern hemisphere. In South China, people eat Qiucai, a kind of wild amaranth (苋菜).
The Major Snow, or “Daxue” in Chinese, is the 21st solar term. The arrival of the Major Snow marks the beginning of midwinter. The temperature drops day by day and heavy snow brings us a romantic ice world. People have the custom to eat mutton and porridge.

Borgstrom knew about jade from a Chinese TV program. “A main character looks so cool with jade,” Borgstrom said. After doing some online research on jade, he found out that__it__had cultural meaning. “People believe that jade can bring good luck,” Borgstrom added.
When it comes to making Chinese culture international, we often think of traditional ways, like setting up cultural exchange programs. However, pop culture, such as Chinese TV programs, is getting more popular among young people in other countries.
Chulkyu Lee, a 16 year old girl from R.O.K, likes to watch short videos on the Internet. She said, “Through the Internet, I've seen many real lives of Chinese people. It lets me know more about the daily lives of Chinese people and the real China.”
Yang Yao from Yunnan Media Group believes that we should use more creative ways to spread Chinese culture. He takes R.O.K as an example of this. “You may know little about the history of the Goryeo Dynasty (高丽王朝), but through the dramas of R.O.K, you come to understand its food like kimchi (泡菜),” said Yang. “China's culture can go abroad in the similar way,” Yang added.

An exhibition in Baoji, Shaanxi, shows how pillows can be much more than just places to put our heads on when we sleep. The exhibition shows 121 ancient pillows from the Western Han Dynasty until the early 20th century.
“These pillows, made using different kinds of materials and designs, are not just daily things but also artistic creations with cultural and historical value,” says Guo Jing, director of the exhibition.“ They show lively social situations from different periods and interesting folk cultures, and include memories of the past. We hope that these historical objects (物品) are beneficial in bringing visitors into the world of the ancients,” she says.
There are a few opinions as to the habit that hard pillows were preferred in ancient times, rather than soft ones. One idea is that a gentleman's quality was compared to jade (玉) and, as such, should be of a similar feel. Another is that hard pillows better support the neck, balance the head and improve blood circulation (循环) in the eyes and are good for the eyes.
Li Ming, who visited the exhibition, says, “It really surprised me when hearing there are medical accounts suggesting that hard pillows are good for our eyes. I want to try it myself. It's interesting that we can learn about ancient social conditions and customs through pillows. It's like seeing a big world through a small object.”

What do you do during the summer holiday, relax or watch TV Sounds a bit boring. Some kids have done really cool things this summer. Liu Yang from Beijing No.1 Middle School worked hard to study kite culture. She did a street survey on what other people thought of kite art. To her surprise, many people knew nothing about it. So she suggested that famous kite makers should give kite making lessons in schools. She hopes that more and more people will care about kite culture.
