According to research, more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten food go to waste in Laura's country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply (供应). It is a sad fact, especially when you consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.
When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters (庇护所) in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed & Find, and has already fed thousands of people in her city.
How does it work Through an app, Feed & Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left, they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to pick it up and take it to a shelter.
Pretty cool, right It's not surprising that people in other cities have got in touch with Laura, hoping that she could help develop similar projects for their communities.
Some people, however, have concerns about the safety of the uneaten food. They think such food may not be clean enough. Still, this project is a clever way to help solve the problem of food waste and it helps those in need.

We produce a lot of rubbish every day. Where does all this rubbish go Scientists have made a pyramid (金字塔) of the different ways of dealing with rubbish. The worst ways are at the bottom and the best ways are at the top.
The bottom of the pyramid is waste disposal (丢弃). This means simply putting rubbish in places like open waste yards. Waste yards produce awful smells. They are harmful to the environment and our health.
A landfill (垃圾填埋场) is a huge hollow that can hold rubbish. In some landfills, waste is treated to make it less harmful before it is buried. Once a landfill is full, it is safely covered with earth. A park or playground can then be built on top of it.
Another way to deal with rubbish is to burn it. This produces energy but can give out harmful smells into the air. In some places, people clean the harmful smells before putting them into the air.
In the middle of the pyramid is recycling. This means using rubbish to make new products. Used glass bottles, for example, can be changed to make new glass products. Waste paper can be broken up and mixed with water to make new paper.
Reusing is another good way to deal with rubbish. This means using “waste” in another way. Buying and selling second hand things online is a good example.
Waste prevention is at the top of the pyramid. It means not producing rubbish in the first place. For example, you can say no to single use plastic cups. Choose glass instead!
( )48. How does the writer explain “recycling”?
A.By giving some examples.
B.By listing some numbers.

C.1—c, 2—b, 3—a, 4—d D.1—c, 2—b, 3—d, 4—a
( )50. What can we learn from the text
A.The best way to solve the rubbish is to burn it.
B.Burying the rubbish without treatment does harm to us.
C.A landfill is an open waste yard where you can throw rubbish everywhere.
D.Used glass bottles can be broken up and mixed with water to make a new one.

七、任务型阅读(共5小题,计10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
In recent years, plastic pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems around the world. Many countries have been looking for ways for a better future. On November 7,2022, China started a “bamboo instead of plastic” activity with the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan(INBAR国际竹藤组织). This will hopefully increase the use of green bamboo products and reduce(减少) plastic pollution.
Bamboo is a renewable natural resource(资源) of great value. Unlike trees which usually need a long time to fully grow, bamboo can be harvested(收割) in 3 to 5 years. As long as it is protected well, bamboo can be cut every year and doesn't have to be replanted. Bamboo can be used to make different kinds of products. These products can take the place of plastic products in many fields, such as packaging(包装), building and daily things. Even a new bamboo washing machine has been invented in some poor areas where people don't have electricity or money to buy traditional washing machines. It uses the natural flow of the water as power to run the machine. It's believed that bamboo is a harmless material. It doesn't cause any pollution when it has to be thrown away.
China is one of the countries with the richest bamboo resources in the world. The Chinese are a pioneer in the use of bamboo. Provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and Guizhou have set up companies to produce and develop bamboo products. What's more, China is also sharing its technologies and experience to help other countries with rich bamboo resources. It is hoped that countries will work together for green development around the world.
71. When did China start the “bamboo instead of plastic” activity
China started the “bamboo instead of plastic” activity on ________________________.
72. Why did China start the “bamboo instead of plastic” activity

九、 Save the Earth: Let's Do Our Part!
The earth is the only home for everyone on it. It's crying for our help now. As middle school students, we have the power to make a difference and help save the earth!
To protect the earth, we can start by saving water, planting more trees, and reducing pollution. We can also save animals and recycle things whenever possible.
We can also choose to ride a bike instead of driving a car to help stop pollution, and make sure to always throw trash in the proper bins. By doing our part, we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a better future for ourselves and generations to come.
