本单元主要学习过去进行时的用法。七年级下册学习过现在进行时，这会对学生学习过去进行时有一定的帮助，但学生在口头和笔头表达的时候经常忘记be动词或者忘了在动词后面-ing形式，所以对于基础比较薄弱的学生，教师需要从现在进行时入手，引导学生过渡到过去进行时的学习。本节课进一步加深和巩固本单元的话题内容，讲述一系列发生在过去某一时间的事情。
首先通过观察图片和标题，让学生了解本节课所学习的内容。然后通过细读中的不同阅读任务，提高学生的阅读技能。最后通过知识巩固，盘点收获。

这节课阅读课整体效果还不错。各目标达成度较高，学生积极性高，参与度较高。
通过图片引出新词，激发学生的兴趣。达成了词汇目标。
通过Fast reading中的问题，水到渠成的引出感谢信的写法。通过细读环节中的不同任务，提高他们的阅读技能。理解词语的词性，并利用词性解读词汇意思。
通过谈论马丁路德金遇害、9.11事件发生时普通民众在干什么来复习巩固过去进行时态。重点训练学生的阅读能力。读后的讨论小组活动效果不很好，今后要注意学生的合作意识。
观察与思考这一环节让学生自己观察总结很好，培养他们自学能力。但是涉及的知识点较少。
通过达标检测，盘点收获，可以看出学生能理解文章内容，并能运用。理解词语的词性，并利用词性解读词汇意思，课下应该再练习。
