Nobody expects a natural disaster to strike.Neither does anyone know the impact it can have on life. The following measures can save your life in an emergency.
Typhoon
Typhoons occur in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, particularly in exposed regions like the Caroline Islands, the Philippines, and Japan. The best place to hide during a typhoon is a secure basement or a bathroom with no windows.A must have device is a battery powered weather radio, through which you will hear evacuation orders or in other cases, instructions on how to survive in your shelter and learn about the weather situation.
Flood
Floods occur more often than any other natural disaster and change the landscape dramatically. They are usually caused by intense rainfalls lasting for days.Don't try to be the bravest person around and stay in your house.Once you hear the evacuation warning, leave for safer higher grounds with your important papers in a waterproof container.
Avalanche
An avalanche can hit when you are enjoying Alpine skiing in a dreamlike location. It is very fast and disastrous, burying everything in its way under tons of snow. When an avalanche starts, try to move to the side of the slope as fast as you can.If you get buried in the snow, dig an air pocket to be able to keep breathing.Wait for the rescue team to find you and don't waste your energy shouting or digging frantically.Call out when you hear the team approaching.
Wildfire
Wildfires spread at an amazing speed and destroy everything in their way.If you are caught in a wildfire, use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth to ensure that you can breathe.Try to stay upwind of the fire at all times and get close to a pond or river.Stay low and cover yourself with wet clothing,a blanket,or soil until the fire passes.
1.What should those trapped in flood probably do when they hear the evacuation orders
A.Bring an umbrella with them.
B.Go to higher places.

D.Getting clean air matters most in the case of wildfires, despite the difficulty.

Do you know that every fourteen days one of the world's 7,000 languages dies out Throughout human history, languages have died out because of natural disasters, war or genocide (种族灭绝),but nowadays the major factor is globalization. This is happening all over the world. In the Amazon rainforest, for example, native people are learning Portuguese to move to the big cities in Brazil to find work.In South Africa, young people are choosing to use English instead of traditional languages to study in higher education.
About 60% of the world's population speak one of the twenty most common languages, and the number of speakers of world languages such as English,Spanish and Chinese is increasing rapidly.Would we really miss most small languages if they died out completely The answer has got to be “yes”!
When a language disappears,we lose the culture and history of a people. We also lose the knowledge of the people who speak the language. In a famous case in northern Australia, doctors couldn't find a cure (疗法) for a skin problem that the local people developed. When they asked a native woman, she used her own language to describe a plant which could cure the disease. There are many other examples of why disappearing languages are important.Speakers of the Kallawaya language in Bolivia have got a wide vocabulary of medicinal plants in their part of the rainforest which doctors in the modern world have never heard of,and speakers of the Yupik language of Alaska have got ninety nine words for ice, which shows that they've got a unique understanding of their world. Our planet would lose that understanding if these languages disappeared.
But we don't have to lose as many languages as some people think.Using modern technology can save small languages, and we mustn't lose the culture, history and knowledge that these languages contain.
4.What is the main reason for the disappearance of language nowadays
A.Natural disasters.
B.Continuous wars.
C.Extinction of a race.
D.The process of globalization.
5.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A.A loss of understanding small languages.
B.The importance of disappearing languages.
C.A description of a plant to cure a skin disease.
D.The knowledge of the culture and history of a race.

A.Worried. B.Unconcerned.
C.Positive. D.Doubtful.
7.What is the text mainly about
A.Disappearing languages.
B.Increasing natural disasters.
C.Leading languages of the world.
D.Working people's language choice.

American English and British English are similar in many ways. For example, most spellings and grammar rules are largely the same. However, the two languages are truly different in speech.Take the accents (口音) of Chris Evans, the star of Captain America, and Rowan Atkinson, who played Mr. Bean,as an example of how far the two languages differ in modern times. But have you ever wondered how this change happened
For that,we have to look at how both dialects began.According to the BBC,British English dates back to 449 AD,when the Saxons and the Angles—tribes (部落) from modern day Germany and Denmark—entered Britain, replacing the ancient Celtic language.
As Celtic slowly faded,an early form of British English appeared with influences from French and Latin. It later became standard all over the UK following the appearance of writers like William Shakespeare. This went on to form British English as we know today.
However,in the USA,Britons' language, other European languages, and Native American words all formed the basis of the US English.New words also appeared. But they soon turned into a tool during the independence movement. In 1789,Noah Webster,a dictionary writer wrote,“As an independent nation, our honor requires us to have a system of our own,in language as well as government.”
After the independence movement, the US English kept changing based on neighboring cultures. This can still be seen through state names such as Delaware and Illinois, which were from Native American language, and Colorado and Nevada, which were influenced by Spanish in the 1800s.
These days,Britons and Americans still argue over terminology (术语) and spellings. But their differences form a key part of each nation's historical culture.Indeed,it shows the truth behind the sentence,“Britain and America are two nations divided by a common language.”
8.Why does the writer mention Chris Evans and Rowan Atkinson in paragraph 1
A.To tell us both of them are world famous actors.
B.To show there are differences between the two types of English.
C.To inform us which kind of English each of them speaks.
D.To compare which English is used more widely now.
9.What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 mean
A.Put down. B.Got popular.
C.Died out. D.Made changes.
10.What do we know about the US English
A.It was based on several languages.
B.All its words came from other languages.
C.It led to the US independence movement.
D.Neighboring countries didn't influence it.
11.Which is the most suitable title for the passage
A.Discovering the Influence of English Languages
B.Arguing over the Spellings of English Languages
C.Exploring the Development of English Languages
D.Guessing at the Future of English Languages

Over the last two days, much of Spain has been coated with dust (灰尘) ,and the skies have turned bright orange.A huge cloud of dust from the Sahara Desert is causing the strange weather. The dust cloud is expected to spread to other parts of Europe.
Across much of Spain on Tuesday morning,a thin layer (层) of red dust coated everything outside. From streets to sidewalks to balconies, everything was covered with a layer of dust.As the sun rose, the dust in the air turned the skies in some cities a strange orange. The cause of the dust and unusual sky colour wasn't a forest fire, but dust from the Sahara Desert.
Every year,a large cloud of dust rises from the Sahara Desert. It's called the Saharan Air Layer.Usually,it crosses the Atlantic Ocean as part of a natural cycle that helps develop farmland and beaches in Central and South America.
But sometimes, depending on the weather, the layer of dust gets forced to the north.Large sandstorms in northern Africa lift sand and dust into the air, where it gets blown towards Spain.Though the particles (微粒) in the air come from sand, they're much more like dust than sand at a beach.
These kinds of storms aren't unknown in Spain. In fact,it has a special name. It's called a “calima”.This calima is so large that it can be seen from space.A NASA scientist who studies weather in the atmosphere says it's like a river of dust in the air. That river of dust has met with a river of wet air driven by strong winds.
Spain's weather service described the dust storm as being “very intense (强烈的)”.At one point on Tuesday, the air quality in Madrid was the worst in the world.Government health experts warned people not to go outside without a mask, and to keep their windows and doors closed at home.
12.What turned Spain's skies orange
A.A huge cloud. B.Pollutants from Europe.
C.Dust from Sahara. D.Heavy rainfall.
13.What can we know about the Saharan Air Layer
A.It's helpful for farming.
B.It hits Spain every year.
C.It's from South America.
D.It leads to forest fires.
14.Which word best describes the calima
A.Attractive. B.Unbelievable.
C.Common. D.Useful.
15.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A.Travel. B.Nature.
C.Science. D.Health.

When Micah was a child,I used to do many things with her.Later,I got promoted and was always on constant business holidays.3 years' devotion to work resulted in my absence from her life and now she was a teenage girl.Recently,I eventually managed to have enough time to accompany her.
For the last few weeks,Micah had watched mockingbirds make a nest in a tree and lay eggs there.Sometimes,I came to stay with her without being invited. But whenever I tried to break the ice,“I'm good” was about all she said to me.Or “Leave me alone.”
“Why doesn't she want to do things with me?” I thought as I set the table for dinner one evening, hoping for an emotion bridge to reappear between us.Did she feel hurt with my long absence Lost in thought,I was seeking to mend the relationship.
“Mom!” Micah yelled suddenly.“Come quick!”
Surprised,I rushed out, only to find a little baby bird on the ground, weak and helpless. My eyes went to the branches above.
“The wind must have blown him out of the nest,” I said.
“No,it was Mr.Whiskers — our cat.You let him go outside!” Micah said,a bit annoyed.
Looking at the nest without the parents,“I'm sorry,” I said and put the bird in my palm cautiously and gently. She didn't reply, but did not refuse my offer to help, either.Deciding to take care of the little baby till it became independent,I placed it in its nest.
“What should we do next?” I asked. No answer again.Instead,Micah went inside and brought her iPad.“Bird videos?” I asked.“Yes,I'm finding out what to feed it,” she said seriously.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Soon,Micah smiled broadly,“I've got it.”
Before long, the bird food arrived and we fed the bird Chance at once.

Once again, thank you for being a worthy competitor.Wish you an even more fruitful academic life!

第二节
【参考范文】
Soon, Micah smiled broadly, “I've got it.” “What do we need?” I asked again. She said the baby bird needed some special bird food.Hearing this,I immediately phoned to place an order. While waiting for delivery,Micah added that we needed to name the bird to build a bond.“How about Chance I think it has a good chance of making it with your help,” I proposed. She didn't say a word but nodded with a bright smile.
Before long, the bird food arrived and we fed the bird Chance at once.To our relief, the special food was to its taste. The following weeks,we went to feed and check on Chance every day.One day,Micah shared her finding that Chance became independent with me happily.Looking at her shining face,I was almost moved to tears.I never imagined that the bird Chance became the real chance to rebuild the emotion bridge between us.From then on I decided to accompany her more, just as what we had done to Chance.Company is the best love.
