To save endangered arctic wolves, theBeijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company cooperated with Harbin Polarland on cloning(克隆 ) the arctic wolf. As a result, after two years of hard work, the arctic wolf was cloned successfully. It is the first case of its kind in the world.
Born on June 10,2022, the wolf, namedMaya, is energetic and in very good health. Her donor(供体) cell came from a wild female arctic wolf from Canada. However, her oocyte(卵母细胞) was from a female dog, and her surrogate mother(代孕母体) was a beagle. The scientist chose a dog as Maya's surrogate because they are similar in genes( 基 因 ) , and it's easier to succeed through cloning technology.
“This is our new try and it has been a development in protecting and producing wild and endangered animals. The birth of Maya is an important thing for the development of cloning technology and is of great value to biodiversity(生物多样性), the protection of wildlife, and the restoration(恢复) of endangered animals in the world,” Mi Jidong, the company's general manager, said.
Cloning technology is a breeding method different from natural reproduction. Some gave opinions about the cloned arctic wolf. SunQuanhui,a scientist from the World AnimalProtection, said that cloning technology is still in the exploratory stage of research, and there are many technical and ethical(伦理) problems that need to be treated properly. Sun believed cloning should be used only for endangered wild animals whose species are dying out or whose captive populations(圈养种群) are very limited.
Maya first lived with her surrogate mother in a lab, and later she was sent to the HarbinPolarland and displayed to the public. Maya had to live by herself in the park at first because she may not be able to fit in with original arctic wolf groups. However, it is reported that the technology of cloning arctic wolves has gained strong value in its application.

D. The importance of the birth of the cloned arctic wolf.
3. What is Sun Quanhui's idea towards cloning technology
A. Careful. B. Confident.
C. Surprised. D. Unsuitable.
4. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Maya was trained to live with wolf groups in the lab.
B. A male cloned arctic wolf may come into the world one day.
C. Maya is popular with many visitors to theHarbin Polarland.
D. Cloning technology will be used in the protection of the animal.
①Do you like blueberries If so, the next time you' re about to eat these delicious berries, take a good look at them.
②For the most part, blueberries aren't blue. If you carefully take off the skin of one blueberry, you' ll see that the fruit inside is white. If you rub(摩擦) the inside of the skin on a white piece of paper, you' ll see a reddish-purple colour. And if you gently rub the outside of a blueberry, the blue colour disappears and the berry looks almost black. But the moment you pick one, it does look blue. What's going on
③Well, there are two ways to create colours. The first is through pigments( 色 素 ) .Pigments show the colour of the light they don't take in. The most common pigment in plants is chlorophyll ( 叶 绿 素 ) , a green pigment. Plant leaves appear green because chlorophyll doesn't take in green light. It sends it out instead while taking in blue and red light. Plants prefer to take in blue light because it has more energy than any other light. In fact, there aren't any“true blue”pigments in the plant world.
④The second way to make colour is through“structural colour(结构色)”. This happens when the surface makes some colours of light look different. Have you ever seen the rainbow colours on a CD These colours show up because of the tiny spaces between the CD's thin layers(层). These spaces only allow certain colours to reach our eyes.
⑤Blueberries also create“structural colour" in their own way. The berries look black when they' re ripe(成熟的), but the plants build a thin layer of wax(蜡) on their outside. This layer is only 0.4% of a centimetre thick, but it gives the berries their blue look. The blue colour helps the plants because birds are attracted to the rare colour. They eat the berries and spread the seeds(种子) far and wide.
⑥Now your bowl of blueberries suddenly looks a lot more interesting. The fruit is beautiful, but its beauty is only skin deep!
5.Which of the following pictures correctly shows why a leaf looks green to us
6. Blueberries appear blue in the same way that .
A. a CD appears colourful
B. a tree leaf appears green
C. they appear black when ripe
D. a fallen leaf appears yellow
7. The sentence“Then ask yourself: Are blueberries really blue ” should be put .
A. at the end of Paragraph 1
B. at the end of Paragraph 2
C. at the end of Paragraph 3
D. at the end of Paragraph 4
8.Which of the following shows the structure of this passage
A.①/②③/④⑤⑥ B.①/②/③④/⑤⑥
C.①②/③④/⑤⑥ D.①/②/③④⑤/⑥

On March 3rd, World Wildlife Day, our school held a lecture on how to protect wildlife. The speaker shared many real-life examples about the danger some wild animals face, like the decreasing number of tigers due to illegal hunting.
From the lecture, I learned that wildlife is important for the balance of nature. Each species plays a unique role, and losing them can cause serious problems to our ecosystem.
As middle school students, we can do a lot. First, we should spread the importance of wildlife protection among our family and friends. Second, we can take part in volunteer activities, such as cleaning up nature reserves. Also, we must avoid buying products made from wild animals. Let's work together to protect our lovely wildlife!
