Love is one of life's greatest motivators. That is exactly what inspired Zack to design a fully electric off-road wheelchair for his girlfriend suffering from paralysis.
Like most wheelchair users, Cambry has always been restricted to the pavement for most of her adult life.Aside from that, using a wheelchair across long distances makes her shoulders ache.Zack Nelson, her boyfriend, wanted to give her the ability to explore more places conveniently, so he made a special wheelchair for her, which would make it possible.
Zack began by combining two electric bikes and installing a seat in the center. It worked! Cambry experienced a whole new level of freedom using her new “ride”, and she couldn't be more grateful to Zack for coming up with it.Fast forward to a year later, Cambry and Zack tied the knot. They also began mass production of the special wheelchair.Throughout that time, they improved the original design to make it a more reliable off-roader.
While similar vehicles already exist in the market, they said they're either slow or cost as much as a car.Cambry and Zack wanted to build something quick, light, super long-range, and affordable at the same time. However, coming up with that kind of electric off-roader wasn't easy.
The toughest challenge when developing the special wheelchair is the price.“We wanted to create something that is affordable for everyone.Finding quality components, and a simple enough design at the cheapest price possibly took quite a bit of time,” said Zack.“But I think we have something now that everyone will be able to enjoy, at a fraction (少量) of the cost of other ‘off-road wheelchairs’ currently on the market.” Another great thing about the vehicle is that it's silent. Its rider will have no difficulty chatting with their companion while using it.Cambry and Zack are very happy with the fully electric machine, and they hope that other wheelchair users will also benefit from it.
4.What was Zack's motivation to invent a fully electric wheelchair
A.The market demands.
B.His interest in invention.
C.His love for his girlfriend.
D.The request of his girlfriend.
5.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to

B.The special wheelchair made by Zack.
C.The ability to explore more places conveniently.
D.Cambry's desire to reduce the pain of her shoulders.
6.What does Zack think of the existing wheelchairs in the market
A.They're light.
B.They're expensive.
C.They're ugly.
D.They're small.
7.What can we learn about Zack from the last paragraph
A.He has an ambition to introduce the wheelchair to others.
B.He is satisfied with people's reaction to the wheelchair.
C.He couldn't afford the components of the wheelchair.
D.He spent many years designing the wheelchair.

Almost every month,a new piece of research appears linking diets high in processed “junk” foods with obesity and poor health. It isn't yet clear if they have a cause-and-effect relationship. But deeper research is starting to appear from trials that compare diets which are based on either extremely processed foods or wholefoods(天然食品),yet are carefully matched for nutrients in all other ways.
The links need investigating as a matter of urgency. If these processed foods really do carry essential health risks,it could mean that official advice about healthy eating has been aiming at the wrong target for decades. In almost all high-income countries, nutrition guidelines say the key to healthy eating is avoiding too much fat, salt and sugar.
While many types of processed foods contain significant quantities of these not-well-thought-of ingredients, not all do,and there are wholefoods that are also high in some of them.Red meat and some dairy products come with their share of fat,for instance. It is still unclear if it is better to switch to “healthier” low-fat versions of processed foods,or to cook from scratch, whatever the ingredients.
Equally not clear is what action governments should be taking. Some campaigners are now calling for higher taxes on factory-made foods. That would be controversial, however, because these foods make up to 60 percent of people's diets in countries such as the UK and the US.Additionally, any price increase is likely to hit lower-income households hardest, many of which consume more of such products because processed foods can be cheaper than making meals from their original ingredients, and the cost difference is even greater if you take into account the time taken to cook from scratch.
Rather than taxation,a most practical approach may be for schools to start teaching pupils how to make quick and simple home-cooked meals. This approach would take many years to bear fruit,as the encroachment(侵蚀) of processed foods into Western cuisine took place over decades. It isn't going to be completely changed overnight.
8.What can be learned about processed foods
A.They are more nutritious than wholefoods.
B.They can help avoid being overweight and unhealthy.
C.They have less fat, salt and sugar than wholefoods.
D.They don't necessarily carry such high health risks.
9.How does the author develop paragraph 3
A.By giving reasons.
B.By listing facts.
C.By answering questions.
D.By showing a study result.
10.What's the author's attitude towards higher taxation on processed foods
A.Favorable. B.Tolerant.
C.Opposed. D.Carefree.
11.What will be the future of processed foods
A.They will be over-taxed.
B.They will still exist in people's diets for some years.
C.They will be removed from Western cuisine.

Less than a quarter of families in Britain sit down for a “screen-free” dinner together every day away from TVs,phones and devices, according to research. The research was carried out to mark the launch of Vodafone Pro with Alexa, featuring a unique “Dinnertime” function which allows families to have 30 minutes of digital downtime.
A study of 1,600 parents, with at least one child at home, found six in ten admit getting children to switch off their devices is the biggest cause of disagreements in their household, leading to an average of two quarrels a day.The research also found it takes almost ten minutes for a child to switch off their devices after being asked to.
Almost all parents feel having a break from technology is important for family relationships. And 86 percent think dinner time is an important part of the day for spending quality time together. However, despite this,93 percent of parents believe technology is important for a child's development, with 98 percent using digital devices to aid their learning.
Dr.Anna Colton, clinical child psychologist, commented,“Technology plays a huge part in all of our lives, and improves our work, learning and leisure.” She added,“However,it is vital to take time away from our screen and connect with family and friends face-to-face,particularly at mealtimes-both for ourselves and for our relationships with loved ones,to develop relationships.”
Max Taylor, consumer director at Vodafone UK,said,“30 minutes is the proper amount of time for families to connect with one another away from screens, because it's long enough to have meaningful conversations,a meal or play a game—but not so long that it feels worrying or stressful.”
12.Why do children often quarrel with their parents according to the text
A.They are unwilling to help with housework.
B.They are urged to turn off digital devices.
C.They are late for dinner with their parents.
D.They are stressed with too much homework.

As Horace Mann, the great educator, once said, “Habits are like a cable. We weave a strand of it every day and soon it cannot be broken.” I personally do not agree with the last part of his expression. 16 Habits can be learned and unlearned. But I also know it isn't a quick fix.It involves a process and a great commitment.
Those of us who watched the lunar voyage of Apollo 11 were transfixed as we saw the first man walk on the moon and return to the earth.Words such as “fantastic” and “incredible” were inadequate to describe those eventful days. But to get there, those astronauts literally had to break out of the enormous gravity pull of the earth. 17
Habits, too, have enormous gravity pull more than most people realize or would admit.Breaking deeply rooted habitual tendencies such as procrastination, impatience, criticalness, or selfishness that violate basic principles of human effectiveness involves more than a little willpower and a few minor changes in our lives. 18 But once we break out of the gravity pull, our freedom takes on a whole new dimension.
19 The gravity pull of some of our habits may currently be keeping us from going where we want to go.But it is also gravity pull that keeps our world together, that keeps the planets in their orbits and our universe in order. 20 And we can use the gravity pull of habit to create the cohesiveness (凝聚力) and order necessary to establish effectiveness in our lives.
A.I know they can be broken.
B.“Lift-off” takes an enormous effort.
C.Excellence is not an act, but a habit.
D.It is a powerful force if used effectively.
E.Habits are powerful factors in our lives.
F.Their energy was mostly spent in the first few minutes of lift-off.
G.Like any natural force, gravity pull can work with us or against us.

When I was a little girl, I knew that I had a gift for music.Playing was my love. While most kids were outside in the burning summer sun, playing childish games, I was happy to sit in the cool indoors for hours practicing my beloved piano. When I played, I felt like I was in a whole new world where I was free and easy. All I had to worry about was my music.Playing was never boring for me.
I had spent months practicing and the big day finally came.It was the day of the Alberta Music Competition. The music hall was packed with excited audience.I sat in the first row with my mother seated beside me.As the fellow competitors were playing,I couldn't keep my mind on their music.I was just memorizing the notes and practicing the fingerings.I had known my music was like the back of my hand. But this time, to my great surprise, I found my fingers completely out of my control. They kept shaking.I nearly burst into tears.Seeing this, mum held my hands tightly in hers. She even breathed into them as if she wanted to warm them up.Then she whispered to my ear, “Sweetie, take it easy.Just listen and enjoy the music.”
I looked up and turned my attention to the competitor in the center of the stage for the first time.A thin and tall boy was sitting at the beautiful red piano. He looked calm and confident. His fingertips danced on the keyboard. The soft and gentle sound of the piano flew in the air.For a moment, I totally forgot my nervousness.

A Successful Badminton Match
A wonderful badminton match was held on the playground of our school last Friday, whose aim was to give us students a break from heavy schoolwork pressure.Five girls and five boys were chosen from each class to compete, and their classmates cheered them up during the match.Although it was cold outside, the playground was filled with the students' laughter and cheers.
The activity was thought highly of by the students, who said it provided them with an opportunity to enrich their campus life.

Then I was announced to play next and I felt anxious again. It seemed that thousands of butterflies were really flying in my stomach. My mother gave me a pat on the back and said softly, “Just enjoy it, honey!” I found encouragement and confidence in her eyes.I got up, climbed up the stage steps and bowed to the audience.I tried my best to keep calm.I slowly placed my hands on the keyboard, took a deep breath and started to play.To my delight, everything seemed unbelievably smooth.
Suddenly my fingers slipped(滑) and I hit a wrong note.I could clearly feel the disappointment from the crowd's deep sigh.“Just enjoy it!” Mum's words echoed in my ears.I continued playing as if nothing had happened.Soon I found myself absorbed in the familiar music world again.Eventually, when I finished my last note, the crowd all stood up with applause and cheering, which was totally out of my expectation.Though I didn't win the champion, I knew I had learned something more valuable.I realised that learning to enjoy music was more important than the competition itself.
