Are you an “I” person or an “E” person? These two personality labels(性格标签) are widely discussed online. They are part of a popular personality test called Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI). All of the results have four letters, and there are 16 results in all. An “I” person is often shy and quiet while an “E” person is outgoing.
Even if an “I” person is often quiet, many online discussions show that he or she can still be outgoing at times. For example, when a shy person is with a group of shy friends, he or she might become more social like an “E” person.
Some scientists agree that this idea of temporarily(暂时地) changing personalities is called “masking”. That is hiding your true personality in some situations. “Human beings want to be part of a group, and they might become people-pleasers to do so,” wrote the MasterClass website.
Using the MBTI result to describe someone’s personality seems fun. The MBTI personality test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun icebreaker when meeting new people. And that’s all it is—for fun. Knowing someone’s MBTI result doesn’t mean you really know this person. And those four letters of yours don’t decide who you are.
( B )1. Which of the following is TRUE about the MBTI ?
A. It’s a personality label.
B. It’s a personality test.
C. Its results have 16 letters.
D. It has 2 results in all.

B. When they aren’t alone by themselves.
C. When they do something fun.
D. When they stay with a group of shy friends.
( D )3. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. The MBTI test is only useful for close friends.
B. Using the MBTI result to describe someone’s personality is always interesting.
C. It’s best not to talk about the result when you meet someone for the first time.
D. There may be something unknown about your true personality behind the result.
( C )4. What does the writer think of the result of the MBTI personality test?
A. It may show everything you don’t know about yourself.
B. You can really know this person from the result.
C. Your personality may be different from what the result describes.
D. You should take the result really seriously.

Sixteen years ago, a boy gave me an important gift. It was a smile.
It was the early autumn of my first year at a middle school, and my old school was far away. As a result, no one knew who I was. I was very lonely, and afraid to make friends with anyone. Every time I heard other students talking and laughing, I felt my heart break. I couldn’t talk with anyone about my problems.
Then one day, my classmates talked happily with their friends, and I sat at my desk unhappily as usual. At that moment, a boy entered the classroom. I didn’t know who he was. He passed me and then turned back. He looked at me with a smile. Suddenly, I felt the touch of something bright and friendly. It made me feel happy, lively and warm. That smile changed my life. I started to talk with other students and made friends. Day by day, I became closer to everyone in my class. The boy with the lucky smile has become my best friend now. One day I asked him why he smiled, but he couldn’t remember smiling at me!
It doesn’t matter because all the dark days have gone. I believe that the world is what you think it is. If you think it lonely, you might always be alone. So smile at the world and it will smile back.

But he stuck to his belief and explored bravely. After years of hard work, he succeeded in developing hybrid rice. Just because of this, China now produces enough rice to feed its people every year.
Yuan is not only a great scientist but also a national hero. I respect him a lot.

My role model
Everyone has a role model, and so do I. My role model is Huang Xuhua, known as the “father of China’s nuclear submarine”.
I admire him because he spent over 30 years working secretly on submarines without telling his family. Even when facing technical difficulties, he never gave up. What moves me most is that he once said, “I’m willing to be silent for the country’s future.” His words show his deep love for our nation.
From him, I’ve learnt two important things. First, we should be brave enough to face challenges, just as he did during research. Second, we must always put the country’s needs first. Whenever I feel tired in study, I think of his spirit and keep going.

Dunhuang was one of the most important stops along the ancient Silk Road. It’s famous for the Mogao Grottoes(莫高窟) which were listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.
Experts work hard to take care of the Mogao Grottoes and learn more about them. Fan Jinshi is one of them. People call her the “daughter of Dunhuang”.
Fan Jinshi was born in Beijing in 1938. Her father was a student of Tsinghua University and had a strong interest in Chinese classical art and culture. So Fan showed great love for Chinese culture when she was young. She was an archaeology(考古学) major at Peking University from 1958 to 1963. Then she started working at Dunhuang Academy and has worked there ever since.
After 30 years’ hard work, Fan and her team have made a digital(数字的) protection system—“Digital Dunhuang”, including digital photo shooting, photo collection and more. This may be one of the most useful ways to protect the Mogao Grottoes. Until recently, “Digital Dunhuang” has enjoyed more than seven million visits from around the world on the internet. In 2018, Fan got the title of “Reform Pioneer over the 70-year History of New China” for her efforts to cultural protection.
On 4th May, 2023, Fan Jinshi returned to Peking University and brought back 10 million yuan to set up the Fan Jinshi Education Fund(基金会) to support the research of Dunhuang studies. “Money should be spent in the right way,” she said. “Hopefully, the setting of the fund can help Dunhuang studies at university, so it can raise cultural confidence.”

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
Do you have some friends who are introverts(内向的人)? You always think it is hard to make friends with them. This may be a mistake.
Mistake 1: Introverts don’t like to talk
This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk if they don’t have anything to say. They hate small talk. An introvert likes to talk about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.
Mistake 2: Introverts are shy
Shyness has nothing to do with being an introvert. Introverts are not afraid of people. What they need is a reason to communicate with others.
Mistake 3: Introverts don’t like people
On the contrary(相反), introverts value the few friends they have. If you are lucky enough for an introvert to consider you as a friend, you probably have a loyal friend for life.
Mistake 4: Introverts always want to be alone
Introverts are perfectly comfortable with their own thoughts. They think a lot. They like daydreams. They like to solve problems. But they can also feel lonely if they don’t have anyone to share their discoveries with.
Mistake 5: Introverts are aloof nerds(书呆子)
Introverts are people who pay close attention to their thoughts and feelings. It does not mean that they do not care about what is going on around them. It’s just that their inner(内心的) world is much more important to them.
4. What do introverts like to talk about? (不超过5个词)
Something they are interested in.
5. If an introvert considers you as a friend, what may happen to you? (不超过10个词)
I may have a loyal friend for life.
6. What does an introvert pay close attention to? (不超过5个词)
His/Her thought(s) and feeling(s).

A. It’s a personality label.
B. It’s a personality test.
C. Its results have 16 letters.
D. It has 2 results in all.

B. When they aren’t alone by themselves.
C. When they do something fun.
D. When they stay with a group of shy friends.

(不超过5个词)
5. If an introvert considers you as a friend, what may happen to you? (不超过10个词)
6. What does an introvert pay close attention to? (不超过5个词)
