Soon I realised I had made a serious mistake.
The man sitting beside me on the plane was very nervous. He had not flown before.

He had just finished sweeping the classroom when the teacher returned from the office.
The train (had) started before I reached the station.
After he (had) arrived in England,Marx worked hard to improve his English.

If she had worked hard, she would have succeeded.
I wish I had gone with you to the concert.
过去完成时常用在hardly/scarcely/barely...when...,no sooner...than...
Hardly had he begun to speak when the audience interrupted him.
No sooner had he arrived than he went away again.

I returned the book that I had borrowed.

I have a younger brother. To me,he is a fourteen-year-old kid named Joe,with blond hair and blue eyes.To others,he is different.Where I see a kid who just needs a lot more attention, others see a mentally disabled boy,a kid who cannot walk or talk or think for himself.I see someone who just makes his daily routine a bit less routine.Others see an annoyance,a bother.
This is not to say that I have never felt resentful (怨恨的) toward Joe.He is my brother, and with that comes responsibility.“Gina, could you stay in tonight and watch your brother?”“Gina,do me a favor and feed him dinner and change his diaper (尿布) later, please?”“Could you come home right after school today and get Joe off the bus?”
These are words that I have heard since I was twelve. And sure, they have made me resent my brother to a certain extent.I would think:that's not fair! Everyone else can stay after and be a member of this club,or get extra help from that teacher.Or,all my friends are going out tonight, why can't I And,how come I have to feed him He is not my son!
However, the small amount of resentment I feel toward my brother is erased a thousand times over by what I have learned from him.Besides making me responsible from a young age,and helping me be more accepting of all kinds of people,he has taught me to be thankful for what I have.
I know that there are moments in my life that I should cherish and that Joe will never experience. He will never laugh so hard that he cries. He will never feel the glory of a straight-A report card.He will never comfort a best friend crying on his shoulder. And he will never know how much his family love him.
Because he will never know,it is up to me to know, every second, how lucky I am.It is up to me to realize that life should be lived to its fullest, and that you should always, always be grateful that you were given the ability to live your life the way you were meant to live it.

In Saskatchewan,Canada, vegetables have a short growing season. So a very unique farm in Hudson Bay is growing fresh,pesticide-free (无农药的) vegetables in a hydroponic (水培的) farm all year long. There the plants are grown in water instead of soil.
Growing vegetables in the middle of nowhere, about 300 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon, may seem like a big risk, but there is no other place for people to get locally grown food.Produce is available in local supermarkets but it is trucked in from far away.
The idea to turn the no longer used Stewart Hawke school into a farm came to the Nels when Hudson Bay asked for bids (投标) for the building in 2018.It was empty and if an alternative use wasn't found,it would be pulled down.“We started looking for ideas, and we went and proposed doing this,”Jan Nel said.“And they loved it.”
After the proposal was accepted, the family worked together to prepare the building in January 2019 and they planted the first seeds in just one classroom the next month.
The company has grown and is now using several rooms thanks to the quality of the produce and the fact that it is local, according to June Nel.“It's not two weeks old;it hasn't travelled across the country or across the world,”she said.“It actually tastes like lettuce.Lots of people have commented on our herbs. It actually still tastes fresh when you get it,and there's no pesticide used.”
She expects more producers to turn to hydroponics in the future but notes that the technology is limited to only some fruits and vegetables and doesn't work for potatoes or grains.“It's not the answer to the food security question or challenge, but it will play an increasingly larger role,”she adds.

Excellence is a form of currency. While a commitment to excellence can help you gain true wealth and realise the inbuilt value of your potential,a lack of commitment devalues potential and reputation.
If you are to become the person you were meant to be on the day you were born,do whatever you do with all your might. 1 If you accept being average and ordinary, life will make you average and ordinary.
2 But it has everything to do with decision, commitment and action. And excellence is a destination for anyone who appreciates, respects, and demonstrates hard work and good judgement!
We all have a range of career choices and opportunities. But we expand the range and quality of our choices when we practice excellence. 3 So attempt to make every opportunity one of importance because every opportunity counts.
What is considered excellent today will become the minimum cost of admission tomorrow.
4 Obviously, the bar is constantly being raised. If you don't produce excellent results consistently, someone else will.
There is no mercy period for averageness, and you must have a zero tolerance policy for it.People expect the best. 5 So never relax the rules of excellence. When you come to terms with quality, you suffer physical and emotional withdrawal from your goals. You should have the belief that the efficiencies of your business and life are infinite, that everything can be improved upon, that every project can be completed in an excellent fashion. Why Because when it comes to excellence, everything counts!
A.Being average is a choice.
B.You're only as good as your last performance.
C.It creates confidence and enhances peace of mind.
D.And we reduce them when we accept being average.
E.If they can't get it from you, they'll find it elsewhere.
F.You will never live longer than its importance and usefulness.
G.Being world-class has nothing to do with size, education,or bloodline.
1.A [根据后文“If you accept being average and ordinary, life will make you average and ordinary.”
2.G [根据后文“But it has everything to do with decision, commitment and action.”
3.D [根据后文“So attempt to make every opportunity one of importance because every opportunity counts.” 同时D选项中的them指代的就是前面提到的the range and quality of our choices。
4.B [根据下文“Obviously, the bar is constantly being raised. If you don't produce excellent results consistently, someone else will.”
5.E [根据下文“So never relax the rules of excellence.” So表明前后是因果关系,空处应强调原因,再结合上文“People expect the best.”
