三、阅读(共两节,满分35分)

Taihu Tunnel, 10.79 kilometres long and 43.6 metres wide, has been the longest underwater tunnel in China. It stands out as one of the “2022 China’s Top 100 Buildings in the New Era”.
When building Taihu Tunnel, the project team faced many challenges, such as high safety risks and time limit. To deal with them, they made workable plans. They divided the tunnel construction into 19 parts. The construction of each part mainly took four steps.
Step 1 Remove. The team built a cofferdam to remove water from the area, so the workers could go inside and do their work in dry conditions.
Step 2 Clear. The team dug deep into the lake bed, and cleared the soil and stones out in order to make space for the next step.
Step 3 Build. The team built the floor, walls and roof of the tunnel in this step. They used high-quality building materials to waterproof the tunnel.
Step 4 Backfill. The team put the soil and stones back. Then this part of the tunnel was buried deep down the lake bed.
The construction of the 19 parts was streamlined. The project team used a new method. The work group of each step moved to the next part and repeated their work after they finished the work in the previous part. Different work groups co-operated well with each other. From part to part the construction started from the opposite ends, and got connected somewhere in the middle. The construction took about four years to complete, shorter than people had expected.
The drivers’ safety is fully considered in Taihu Tunnel. There are 200,000 LED lights on the ceiling of the tunnel. They show vivid pictures of blue sky, starry night and so on. The pictures can help drivers fight tiredness and travel through the tunnel safely. Besides, there are two systems in the tunnel. The police can check the traffic situation through a monitoring system. If traffic accidents happen, the police can give instructions and warn drivers in the tunnel over an audio system to prevent further accidents.
The construction of Taihu Tunnel shows great value in engineering and the tunnel brings much convenience to people living nearby.

Marissa Sumathipala, a student at Broad Run High School outside of Washington, D.C, was practicing with her recreational figure-skating team when she crashed with another skater. Her head hit against the ice heavily. Everything went black.
Up to that point, Sumathipala’s entire life had centred around her sport—her daily schedule, exercise routine, even her diet. She had hopes of making the 2018 Olympic team. The fall on the ice would change everything, including her direction.
Sumathipala had a brain injury and it ended her skating career. Symptoms lasted for years. Her memory felt unclear at times. She’d find herself dizzy sick, or exhausted. Sumathipala consulted doctors, so many that she “lost count.” But no one had answers.
Sumathipala began to realize that there was so much unknown about the brain. She set out to find the answers herself, a path that would finally bring her to Harvard University, where she’d concentrate in the human brain. Throughout her four years, Surmathipala homed in on brain science. She worked with the McCarroll Lab at Harvard Medical School, helping develop a new method for sequencing synapses (神经突序列) in the brain, which are crucial for memory and learning. Even as an undergraduate, her colleagues were so struck by how mature (成熟的) her thinking already was about science that she quickly became a trusted and valued member of the lab.
Also, Sumathipala competed with the Harvard Figure Skating Club all four years. She helped increase its membership and introduced new skaters to the sport she still loves. “I spent a long time struggling with my identity,” she said. “Growing up I was just a skater and then, when I got injured, I had to rebuild my identity. Then I was a scientist. Now, I identify as being both a skater and a scientist.”
Reflecting on her years at Harvard, Sumathipala said one of the things she’s most grateful for is seeing how things have come full circle for her.
37. What do we know about Sumathipala’s injury
A. It stopped her skating finally. B. It led to her loss of eyesight.
C. It changed her life direction. D. It was easily cured by doctors.

A. focused on B. returned to C. attended to D. stayed at
40. What made things come full circle for Sumathipala

例文
Now AI technology has found its way into our daily life. There is a heated discussion on whether middle school students should be allowed to use AI in their studies.
I believe that middle school students should be allowed to use AI when learning because it can provide valuable information. For example, AI can offer help on homework in time. Moreover, it can reorganize information clearly, helping students understand complex topics. It can also make learning fun.
However, we must learn to use AI wisely and avoid simply copying answers. Only by thinking independently can we truly improve our knowledge and skills. Therefore, with the right attitude, AI can become a powerful tool to develop our study habits.
So, I agree that we should be allowed to use AI.
