Unit 3 Family ties-Reflection
This unit, "Family ties", focuses on exploring the meaning of family. Students have engaged with various texts, including a film review about the relationship between a father and a son, a diary entry sharing a precious family photo, and dialogues discussing family problems and solutions. Through these materials, students have learned vocabulary related to family members and activities, as well as grammar like possessive nouns and the present continuous tense. The unit aims to not only enhance students' language skills but also deepen their understanding of family values and the importance of family communication.
教学目标 Students will be able to use words and expressions learned in the unit to accurately and vividly talk about their families, such as describing family members' occupations, personalities, and the activities they do together. Master the usage of possessive nouns to precisely describe family relationships and special family moments, like "This is my parents' wedding photo" or "That's my sister's favorite toy". Use the present continuous tense correctly when talking about ongoing family activities, for example, "My family is having a picnic in the park now". Be able to write a short passage about their family, including introducing family members, describing family traditions, and expressing their feelings towards their families.
教学重难点 Vocabulary related to family members (e.g., father, mother, sister, brother, grandparents, etc.), family activities (e.g., have a picnic, play games, watch TV together, etc.), and family relationships (e.g., husband - wife, parent - child, sibling, etc.). The correct usage of possessive nouns. For singular nouns, add's (e.g., Tom's book), and for plural nouns ending with -s, just add an apostrophe (e.g., the students' desks). For irregular plural nouns, add's (e.g., children's toys). Present continuous tense structure: be (am/is/are) + verb - ing. Use it to describe actions happening at the present moment.

教学过程
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Show some pictures of different families doing various activities, such as having a big dinner together, playing in the park, or celebrating a birthday.
Ask students: "Look at these pictures. What can you see What are these families doing And can you share some similar happy moments in your own family "
Encourage several students to share their family stories briefly. This step aims to arouse students' interest in the topic of family and activate their prior knowledge and personal experiences related to family.
2. Knowledge Review (10 minutes)
Vocabulary Review
Write some words on the blackboard, leaving out some key letters. For example, write "f_ther" for "father", "s_st_r" for "sister". Ask students to fill in the blanks.
Then, randomly point to a word and ask students to use it in a sentence. For example, if the word is "picnic", a student might say "My family often has a picnic on weekends."
Grammar Review
Display some sentences on the PPT with blanks for the possessive forms or the present continuous tense. For example:
This is ______ (Tom) pencil.
They ______ (play) games in the living room now.
Ask students to come to the blackboard to fill in the blanks. After they finish, explain the correct answers and review the rules of possessive nouns and present continuous tense briefly.
3. Activity - Making a Family Photo Album (15 minutes)
Photo Selection Guidance
Explain to students that they are going to make a simple family photo album. First, they need to choose at least three photos that can represent important family activities, traditions, or loving moments.
Show some sample photos on the PPT and explain why they are chosen. For example, a photo of the whole family wearing traditional clothes during the Spring Festival can represent a family tradition.
Give students a few minutes to look through the photos they brought (or they can choose from some pre - provided photos if they didn't bring any).
Album Making
Provide each student with a few pieces of paper to make their photo album.
For each photo, students need to write a short description using the language they learned. For example, if it's a photo of the family having a picnic, they can write "This photo shows my family having a picnic in the park. We are sitting on the grass, eating delicious food and laughing happily. It was a very relaxing and happy moment."
Walk around the classroom to offer help and guidance. Encourage students to use correct grammar and rich vocabulary.
4. Presentation and Sharing (10 minutes)
Ask several students to come to the front of the class to present their family photo albums.
While a student is presenting, the others should listen carefully and can ask questions if they are interested in something.
After each presentation, give some positive feedback and praise, such as "You chose very meaningful photos and your descriptions are clear and full of emotion. Well done!"
This step can improve students' speaking ability, confidence, and also allow them to learn from each other's family stories.
5. Summary and Homework (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key points of this class, including the reviewed vocabulary, grammar, and the importance of family as reflected in the photo albums.
Emphasize that family is full of love, support, and precious memories, and they should cherish their families.
Homework
Ask students to write a short composition about "My Family". They need to include at least three paragraphs, introducing family members, describing a special family event, and expressing their love for their family.
Encourage them to use the words, expressions, and grammar they learned in this unit.
教学反思
Overall, this class achieved most of the teaching objectives. The lead - in part successfully engaged students and made them actively participate in sharing their family stories. The knowledge review was effective in refreshing students' memory of vocabulary and grammar. The activity of making a family photo album was well - received by students. They showed great enthusiasm in choosing photos and writing descriptions, which improved their language application ability. During the presentation and sharing, students were able to express themselves clearly, and the interaction between presenters and the audience was positive.
However, there are also some areas for improvement. In the grammar review, some students still seemed a bit confused about the usage of possessive nouns and the present continuous tense, especially when applying them in more complex sentences. Maybe more practice examples and in - depth explanations are needed in the future. Also, during the group activities, a few students were a bit passive. In the next class, more attention should be paid to these students to encourage their full participation. In terms of homework, it is expected that students can integrate the knowledge learned in class and write a more complete and meaningful composition about their families.
