For the two-week summer program, I chose to focus on a biology project. My research centered on investigating the presence and impact of bacteria in different water sources, specifically comparing wild lake water with home pool water to determine which was more harmful. This topic interested me because it combined both environmental science and public health, two topics I’m deeply passionate about.
The laboratory work was challenging but extremely rewarding. I remember the first day I set out to collect water samples (样本). The lake was peaceful, but beneath the calm surface hid something far less harmless. In contrast, the pool’s crystal-clear water seemed almost too clean, and I wondered how the tests would turn out.
Back in the lab, I analyzed the samples. The process involved culturing the bacteria, monitoring their growth and comparing the results from both sources. When the data finally came in, it was both shocking and enlightening. The lake water, despite its beautiful appearance, was full of bacteria—definitely not safe for drinking. On the other hand, the pool water was surprisingly clean, with hardly any bacteria present. These results highlighted the importance of water sanitation (卫生) and the hidden dangers that untreated water can pose.
Once my experiments were completed, I poured all my energy into writing a detailed report. I wanted to make sure that my findings were clear and accurate to convey the significance of the research. On the last day of the seminar, I had the opportunity to present my work to a group of 15 mentors. Standing before them, explaining my project, I felt proud—I was not just a student; I was like a scientist sharing my discoveries with the world.
24.How did the author think of the wild lake water at the beginning
A.Harmless. B.Challenging. C.Beautiful. D.Clean.
25.What was the first step of the research
A.Culturing the bacteria. B.Monitoring their growth.

26.What does the underlined word “enlightening” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Ever-lasting. B.Educational. C.Interesting. D.Life-changing.

A.Seeing is not believing. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Still waters run deep. D.Easier said than done.
On the way to school, during exercise, or before bedtime, more and more middle and high school students are putting on headphones to make use of small pockets of free time with audio (音频) content. Once a small hobby and now a popular activity for many, the podcast (播客) industry is growing fast.
According to China Netcasting Services Association, there are now six times more Chinese podcast programs than in 2021. Platforms like Himalaya reported that more than 220 million people now listen to podcasts in China, with a 30 percent growth rate in 2024 alone. This sharp increase is especially noticeable among students and young people in big cities, who use podcasts to better manage their time.
Compared to watching videos, listening to audio content feels easier and more relaxing. When we watch something, we need to give it our full attention and try to stay focused. But when we listen, the sound reaches us naturally and with little effort.
More importantly, in videos people often care too much about how someone looks, but podcasts let us focus more on thoughts and ideas instead. This marks a move from “looking at faces” to “listening to viewpoints”. Many popular podcasts invite young creators, college students and graduate students to talk about real issues, without filters (滤镜) or the pressure to look perfect. This helps people focus more on the message being shared, rather than the image someone is presenting.
The rise of podcasts shows how audio is opening new doors for expression. Podcasts allow people to be heard for their ideas and thoughts, rather than being judged by their appearance. In this way, the “ear economy” is helping build a more equal and thoughtful society.
28.What do we know about the fast-growing podcast industry in China
A.It brings about more audio equipment. B.It improves students’ listening skills.
C.It fails to draw attention from the old. D.It contributes to better time management.
29.What do listeners focus on when listening to podcasts
A.Images presented. B.Viewpoints shared.
C.Issues discussed. D.Attention spared.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards the rise of podcasts
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Objective. D.Unclear.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Saying Goodbye to Pretty Visuals. B.Shifting Focus to Deep Thinking.
C.Making Waves Through Sound. D.Opening Doors for Expression.
The national Chinese Characters Typing Competition was rarely cause for excitement until in 2013, Huang Zhenyu, a student, produced 222 characters per minute, or 3.7 per second, the same as someone typing more than 200 words per minute in English, about five times the average speed. Mr Huang’s performance was a dramatic moment in one of the Chinese-speaking world’s long-running challenges: how to use the 26 letters on the Western keyboard to type thousands of Chinese characters.
The Chinese language’s lack of an alphabet (字母表) has been a source of concern. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it meant Chinese typewriting and telegraphy were much slower. The alphabet anxiety further increased when the personal-computing revolution in the West began to transform the world.
In languages like English and French, what you type is what you get. In Chinese, it never is. Chinese people, when typing on a Western-designed computer or phone, are required to operate entirely in code (编码) in order to turn keyboard letters into characters.
Kao Chung-Chin worked with IBM in the 1940s to develop the electric Chinese typewriter using a different four-number code for every character. In the 1970s, China even considered giving up the western keyboard altogether and produced huge keyboards of characters. But from the 1980s on, new “structure-based” input systems flourished, such as wubi (the system used by Mr Huang). In those methods, each letter on the keyboard is linked to a different visual component (组成部分) of a character so, typed continuously, they form a full character.
Despite all its complexities, the western keyboard has won. Currently among the different codes, it is pinyin, which writes characters according to the sounds by using the alphabet, that has taken over. Type in a Chinese sound using the western letters—tong, for example—and a list of the most commonly used characters with that sound appears.
Half the world’s population uses languages that require workarounds with a western keyboard. This is a global issue of which few Westerners are aware. China has made a breakthrough and saved the Western-designed computer from its in-born limitations.
32.What was the major challenge to type Chinese characters on the Western keyboard
A.No western guidance. B.No excellent top typist.
C.No direct one-to-one match. D.No advanced equipment.
33.Which of the following code enjoys the greatest popularity at present
A.Pinyin. B.Wubi. C.Four-number code. D.Structure-based code.
34.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A.The significance of typing Chinese characters. B.The limitations of Western-designed computers.
C.The typing challenges faced by half of the world. D.The global issue ignored by the Westerners.
35.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text
A.To praise Chinese people’s hard work and intelligence.
B.To introduce the journey of typing Chinese characters.
C.To give advice on how to type Chinese characters fast.
D.To catch eyes to Chinese Characters Typing Competition.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply looking to enjoy running more consistently, planning your goals thoughtfully is crucial. Here are five practical ways to set effective and long-term running goals. Be realistic.
When it comes to goals, it’s easy to get carried away by ambition (野心). You may want to significantly increase your weekly kilometers or finally commit to running ultra-marathons. Instead of setting yourself up for failure with overly ambitious goals, aim to gradually increase your total miles by no more than 10%-15% compared to last year. This approach minimizes the risk of burnout or injury while still providing a sense of progress. 36 Prioritize Rest and Recovery
To achieve your running goals, you need to stay healthy, and this means giving your body the rest it needs. 37 It’s essential for improving performance and ensuring you can train consistently over the long term. Create a recovery schedule to support your goals. For example, after every four weeks of hard training, plan a lighter recovery week. Select the Right Races
38 It’s important to choose your races wisely. Choose races that are meaningful to you, offer favorable conditions, and match your goals, whether it’s achieving a personal best, exploring a new destination, or simply enjoying a memorable experience.
39
Cycle is the cornerstone of effective training. It involves gradually increasing your training load over several weeks, followed by a recovery week to allow your body to adapt. A proper cycle helps you train smarter, improve performance, and reduce the risk of injury. Balance Running with Work and Family
Running is a rewarding pursuit, but it’s important not to let it overshadow other aspects of your life. 40 For example, plan short runs together, attend local races as a family, or schedule your long runs during times that don’t conflict with family activities. By finding harmony between running and other priorities, you’ll create a more sustainable and enjoyable routine.
A.Follow a Proper Cycle
B.Decide on a Cycle
C.Rest isn’t just about avoiding injuries.
D.Racing can be one of the most exciting parts of running.
E.Consistency is more important than massive increases in number.
F.Do some deep breathing before the race to calm your nerves and relax.
G.One way to strike this balance is by involving your family in your running journey.

An Art Class
When Kelly was twelve, she started taking classes at Miss Grace’s School for Art. She didn’t like it at first: the “novice artists”—the kids who hadn’t really done art before—worked mostly with clay, and Kelly was a terrible sculptor (雕塑家).
It wasn’t until her third year that Kelly found something she was really good at—charcoal drawing She loved watching the lines spread unevenly across the page as she moved the bits of charcoal back and forth over the paper.
However, she would feel a nameless tension and stress taking hold of her whenever the name “Sophia” came from between Miss Grace’s lips. Sophia was the talk of the whole class for her masterpieces created time and time again. Her sketches (素描) weren’t just good; they were alive. They had the unfailing magic to light up Miss Grace’s eyes and started a buzzing chorus—“Amazing,” “Unbelievable details,” “You’re so talented!”. And Sophia would always smile modestly in return, accepting the praises with a graceful dip of her head. Her ease somehow increased Kelly’s discomfort. Her effortless talents and grace really outshone (使…… Every time, Kelly intentionally stayed away from her, ensuring that she could give full play to her limited talents at will.
One day, Sophia, the best artist in her class, sat down and set up her easel (画架) next to Kelly. Kelly felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She’d actually found an art form that she enjoyed—and was good at—and now Sophia was going to put her in the shade again Kelly fought back tears when Miss Grace entered the room.
“Hello class,” Miss Grace said. “We’ll continue to work on the project today.”
“What masterpiece would Sophia have come up with ” Kelly thought within.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

Thank you to the head teacher for inviting me to talk to you. I studied at this school from 1991 to 1998 and now I’m a scientist. I’d like to share some important things I’ve learned over the years—things that might help you succeed. The first is that you should always work hard. Success doesn’t happen overnight; it takes effort and patience. Whether it’s your studies, sports, or any activity, give it your best. You’ll be surprised how much you can achieve when you try your hardest. Second, be thoughtful and kind to those around you. We’re living in a world where kindness matters more than ever. A small act of kindness can make someone’s day better, and being thoughtful makes you a better friend, classmate, and even parent in the future. Always know the power of a kind word or action. Lastly, make the most of your life. Now is the time to start planning for your future. Explore new things, stay curious, and never stop learning. Every single day is a fresh chance to grow and learn.

根据第三段“The lake water, despite its beautiful appearance, was full of bacteria—definitely not safe for drinking. On the other hand, the pool water was surprisingly clean, with hardly any bacteria present. These results highlighted the importance of water sanitation (卫生) and the hidden dangers that untreated water can pose.(尽管湖水外表美丽,却充满了细菌——显然不适合饮用。而另一方面,泳池水却干净得出奇,几乎检测不到任何细菌。这些结果凸显了水处理卫生的重要性,以及未经处理的水可能带来的潜在危害)”可知,研究结果凸显了水处理卫生的重要性,以及未经处理的水可能带来的潜在危害,因此结果是既令人震惊又颇具启发性。enlightening的意思是“予以人启迪的”,和Educational意思相近,故选B。
27.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“When the data finally came in, it was both shocking and enlightening. The lake water, despite its beautiful appearance, was full of bacteria—definitely not safe for drinking. On the other hand, the pool water was surprisingly clean, with hardly any bacteria present. These results highlighted the importance of water sanitation (卫生) and the hidden dangers that untreated water can pose.(当数据最终出炉时,既令人震惊又颇具启发性。 故选A。

根据最后一段“The rise of podcasts shows how audio is opening new doors for expression. Podcasts allow people to be heard for their ideas and thoughts, rather than being judged by their appearance. In this way, the “ear economy” is helping build a more equal and thoughtful society.(播客的兴起表明音频为表达打开了新的大门。播客让人们的想法和想法被听到,而不是通过他们的外表被评判。通过这种方式,“耳朵经济”正在帮助建立一个更加平等和体贴的社会。)”可知,作者对播客的兴起持积极的态度,故选A。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“On the way to school, during exercise, or before bedtime, more and more middle and high school students are putting on headphones to make use of small pockets of free time with audio (音频) content. Once a small hobby and now a popular activity for many, the podcast (播客) industry is growing fast.(越来越多的初高中学生在上学的路上、锻炼时或睡前戴上耳机,利用一小部分空闲时间收听音频内容。播客行业发展迅速,曾经只是一个小爱好,现在已成为许多人的热门活动。)”可知,本文主要讲的是播客(podcast)在中国,尤其是中学生和年轻人中迅速兴起的现象,并分析了其背后的原因及社会意义,因此最恰当的标题是C选项“Making Waves Through Sound(用声音掀起浪潮)”。故选C。

32.推理判断题。根据第一段“Mr Huang’s performance was a dramatic moment in one of the Chinese-speaking world’s long-running challenges: how to use the 26 letters on the Western keyboard to type thousands of Chinese characters.(黄振宇的表现是中国语言界长期面临的挑战中的一个关键时刻:如何使用西方键盘上的26个字母来输入数千个汉字)”及第三段“ In languages like English and French, what you type is what you get. In Chinese, it never is. Chinese people, when typing on a Western-designed computer or phone, are required to operate entirely in code (编码) in order to turn keyboard letters into characters.(在像英语和法语这样的语言中,你输入什么就会得到什么。在中文里,从来都不是。中国人在西方设计的电脑或手机上打字时,为了把键盘上的字母变成字符,需要完全用编码操作)”可知,在西方人发明的键盘上输入汉字很难,主语是因为汉字与键盘字母之间没有直接的对应关系。故选C项。
33.细节理解题。根据第五段“Currently among the different codes, it is pinyin, which writes characters according to the sounds by using the alphabet, that has taken over. Type in a Chinese sound using the western letters—tong, for example—and a list of the most commonly used characters with that sound appears.(目前,在不同的编码系统中,根据发音使用字母表来书写汉字的方法:拼音已经占据了主导地位。使用西方字母输入一个汉语发音——比如“tong”——就会出现一个包含该发音最常用汉字的列表)”可知,现在拼音编码输入法最受欢迎。故选A项。
根据最后一段“Half the world’s population uses languages that require workarounds with a western keyboard. This is a global issue of which few Westerners are aware. China has made a breakthrough and saved the Western-designed computer from its in-born limitations.(世界上一半的人口使用的语言需要在西方键盘上进行变通。这是一个全球性问题,但很少有西方人意识到这一点。中国取得了突破,拯救了西方设计的电脑,使其摆脱了与生俱来的局限性)”可知,最后一段主要介绍了解决在西方键盘上进行汉字输入问题的重要意义。故选A项。

In the 1970s, China even considered giving up the western keyboard altogether and produced huge keyboards of characters. But from the 1980s on, new “structure-based” input systems flourished, such as wubi (the system used by Mr Huang). In those methods, each letter on the keyboard is linked to a different visual component (组成部分) of a character so, typed continuously, they form a full character.(20 世纪 40 年代,高仲芹与 IBM 合作开发电动中文打字机,为每个汉字设计了不同的四位数字编码。 在这些方法中,键盘上的每个字母都与汉字的不同视觉部件相关联,连续输入时,这些字母就会组成一个完整的汉字)”以及第五段“Currently among the different codes, it is pinyin, which writes characters according to the sounds by using the alphabet, that has taken over. Type in a Chinese sound using the western letters—tong, for example—and a list of the most commonly used characters with that sound appears.(目前,在不同的编码系统中,根据发音使用字母表来书写汉字的方法:拼音已经占据了主导地位。

Looking at Sophia’s easel, Kelly was shocked—it was a mess! She looked at Sophia, who was watching Kelly anxiously. “I... I couldn’t decide what to do,” Sophia almost cried. Kelly looked to see if Sophia was joking. Now Kelly was shocked. “You’re the best one in our class!” Sophia raised her eyebrows. “I might be a really good copier of the stuff, but I have no idea what to do when it comes to creating my own images. You are so great at making new things out of the old stuff. I’ve loved your works.” “I’ve loved yours, too,” Kelly said. “Well, definitely not this one,” Sophia said. Kelly smiled. “But if you move these lines up…” she said, pointing her finger on Sophia’s paper. Sophia was quiet for a moment. “That’s a great idea!”, Sophia dived into her drawing without delay.
Seeing that Sophia took her advice, Kelly smiled and turned back to her drawing. This time, with Sophia beside her, instead of feeling frustrated, she felt empowered by their heart-to-hearted talk. “You’ve done such a wonderful job. Kelly, your drawing fills me with great pleasure!” exclaimed Miss Grace, who happened to pass by between Kelly and Sophia. “Congratulations, Kelly” echoed Sophia, who lifted up with her own work done. Almost at the same time, both Miss Grace and Kelly shifted to Sophia’s easel, and were greeted by pleasant surprises and creativity. There followed a lot of praises and admiration. All of a sudden, Sophia reached out and gave a bear hug to Kelly, whispering “thank you so much”. This was an unforgettable art class for both Sophia and Kelly.
