I was born and raised on the Gold Coast by a single parent, my incredible mother, Christine. Mum always placed a lot of emphasis on higher education and I was educated from a young age to enter university.
Unfortunately for Mum, the thing that I had a special love for was cooking — not what she would have chosen for me. Knowing how hard restaurant work is, she wasn’t pleased with my idea. To keep my options open, I decided to apply for university but also cook throughout my studies with a part-time job. However, it wasn’t long before I found I was stuck in studying something not appealing to me, and this part-time work became my thing. I made the tough decision to quit my university major after graduation, switching to pursue a career in the kitchen. Although she wasn’t favorable with my choice, Mum has since been an incredible supporter.
Soon, I fell back into old patterns working in kitchens but feeling unfulfilled. Then, social media changed everything. As an early user, I poured my creativity into the platform, discovering a talent for photography and storytelling. Soon, my audience grew to 200,000 followers. Recognizing the opportunity, I quit my job to pursue travel photography and social media full-time.
I traveled 50 trips a year at my peak while expanding into consulting, public speaking, and project management. I created social media content, photography and campaign reports. As a pioneer in Australia’s influencer market, my services became highly sought-after.
I established a travel account, teaching others to build careers in the industry, and launched an online photography course for beginners. Next year, I’ll lead my first photography tour in Zimbabwe, my partner’s homeland, combining my passions with conservation and community support. My journey has been challenging yet deeply fulfilling. Making money is no longer the main driver — instead, I seek meaningful experiences and opportunities to inspire others. What began as a small idea has grown into a life of adventure, creativity and purpose.

D. How social media affected the author’s career path.
26. What does the author value most in his current career

A recent study reveals that the ability to see things from others’ perspectives (观点) may augment creativity. Researchers from the University of Vienna conducted experiments with young Chinese adults to examine how different types of empathy (同理心) relate to creative thinking and achievement.
The study measured two kinds of empathy: cognitive empathy (understanding others’ points of view) and emotional empathy (sharing others’ feelings). Participants completed questionnaires about their empathic tendencies and reported their creative activities over the past year, such as writing, inventing, or artistic pursuits. Researchers also analyzed long-term data from China’s Gene-Brain-Behavior Project to track creative development.
Results showed that people with stronger cognitive empathy engaged in more creative activities and achieved greater success in fields like visual arts, science, and writing. Interestingly, emotional empathy didn’t show the same connection to creativity. The benefits of perspective-taking appeared strongest in areas requiring innovative thinking rather than technical skills like music performance.
Further analysis suggested that understanding different viewpoints might stimulate creativity by exposing individuals to diverse ways of thinking. However, the emotional aspect of empathy didn’t contribute similarly, possibly because it requires mental energy that could otherwise be used for creative work. The findings highlight how developing our ability to see through others’ eyes might be an effective way to boost creative potential, especially in fields that value novel approaches and solutions.
Whatever the case, the findings suggest that increasing your ability to take someone’s perspectives might be a good thing for your creativity. Fortunately, empathy can be cultivated through deliberate effort. One effective method is to engage with books or watch TV or films and mentally place yourself in the characters’ shoes, thereby building your perspective-taking muscles. You can also build empathy by interacting with people who are different from you in some way, while being curious about their inner life and deeply listening to their perspectives.
28. What does the underlined word “augment” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Put off. B. Call for. C. Hold back. D. Add to.
29. Why is cognitive empathy linked to greater creative achievement
A. It shares others’ emotional experiences. B. It introduces different thought processes.
C. It offers mental energy among innovators. D. It helps individuals master technical skills.
30. How can people develop empathy
A. By role-imagining. B. By exposing inner world.
C. By working out. D. By comparing backgrounds.
31. Which can be the best title for the text
A. The Science of Creativity: How It Unlocks Empathy
B. The Mental Process of Seeing Through Others’ Eyes
C. Understanding Others: the Key to Your Next Big Idea
D. Seeing Differently Rarely Meaning Thinking Differently

Flamingos (火烈鸟) look graceful, but when it’s time to eat, they look very silly. The birds feed on shrimp and algae (虾和藻) in wetlands. To grab a bite, they stick their heads underwater and open and close their mouth rapidly. Then they step hard with their feet and move around in the mud, shaking their heads up and down as they walk. Why do they take this absurd approach to getting a meal
Flamingos are filter feeders (滤食性动物) and they filter water through their L-shaped beaks (鸟喙), trapping shrimp, algae and other food. But with their heads bending down between their legs, their beaks appear to be upside down, which seems like the wrong way to catch the shrimp and algae in front of them.
Of course, flamingos know perfectly well what they’re doing, and so do Saad Bhamla, a biophysicist from Georgia Institute of Technology, and his group. The team reveals that the bird is creating vortices (漩涡) in the water with almost every move. For example, as it pulls out of the water, its beak creates vortices, stirring up shrimp and algae and traps them long enough for the bird to eat. Then as for the strange stepping hard with their feet, the study finds that flamingos’ feet create a pair of vortices that push food toward their beaks. That’s why it makes sense to have the head facing the feet instead of whatever is in front of them.
“What they’re basically doing is playing with fluid dynamics — using the beak, using their legs, using their heads and necks,” said Bhamla.
Bhamla believes flamingos may have some have some more to teach humans. He works with chemists to learn how to better filter water. Those filters frequently get blocked by substances similar in size to what the flamingos filter for their food. So it seems possible that some of the vortex-generating techniques of flamingos could be adapted to help keep the filters clear.
32. What does flamingos’ feeding behavior appear to be like
A. Awkward. B. Flexible. C. Uncontrollable. D. Unchanged.
33. How do flamingos’ L-shaped beaks help them feed
A. By allowing them to drink more water.
B. By catching food as water flows through.
C. By making it easier to catch fast-moving food.
D. By stopping water from entering their mouths.
34. Why do flamingos move their heads up and down while feeding
A. To clean their beaks from mud and debris.
B. To signal to other flamingos about danger.
C. To create water currents that help trap food.
D. To dig deeper into the mud for hidden food.
35. What will Bhamla continue to study about flamingos’ feeding habits
A. The species conservation. B. Its possible limitation.
C. The new research method. D. Its potential application.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Each year, the number of accidental drownings rises sharply in summer. We are dedicated to reducing drownings and raising awareness about the preventable issue. Here are five layers of protection to prevent drownings.
____36____
Four-sided fences, self-closing gates, safety alarms and pool covers are the best to protect unrestricted access of children and even of adults into a body of water, whether it be a pool or a pond. Modern wearable technology further enhances safety. If a person goes underwater with it, there’s a device that can be sounded off.
Supervise (监督) swimmers and water activities
The second layer is to appoint a supervisor or a water watcher whenever children are in, near, or around the water, even when there’s a lifeguard in place.____37____. So, that’s not being on a cell phone, not being engaged in conversation, not doing household chores while kids are in the water, because drowning is fast and silent.
Learn how to swim
Another key to preventing drownings is to learn how to swim—plain and simple. Choose brightly colored swimsuits to be easily spotted. Everyone is supposed to learn to swim. It’s about building water-smart skills: floating on your back, treading water, making it to the edge, and shouting for help if you need to.____38____.
Use life jackets
In addition, we urge the use of life jackets that are sized appropriately for use in, near or around bodies of water and while boating.____39____. Adults need to teach young children about how life jackets work and why it’s important to wear one and what can happen if one isn’t worn.
Prepare for emergencies
____40____. Know how to recognize someone who’s in trouble and then what to do in that case, call for help and reach or throw something that floats to them.
A. Promote accessibility
B. Use barriers and alarms
C. Such basic competence can save lives
D. We advocate fully focused supervision
E. It keeps you above the surface and helps you float
F. If you’re not trained to rescue, don’t offer to supervise someone
G. We suggest learning to perform first aid and keeping rescue equipment in hand

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
No one owns dogs in Bhutan. In this country, most people believe that the animals around us are their lost loved ones, so animals are given free rein (缰绳) to do whatever they want.
I moved to Bhutan from another teaching job in Tanzania. A few dogs spent every day hanging out at my school. One of them was a little guy with a head too big for his body, really winning my heart. He was a cute guy with an open face and a constantly dangling tongue. His fur was patchy in spots, but he seemed otherwise healthy.
As I settled into life in Bhutan, I had trouble making friends. Sure, I was close with all the other teachers, but most of them were older and had families. Because of the language barrier and my own shyness, it was hard to go out and meet new people. Our town in Bhutan was very small, just two main roads filled with mostly restaurants, karaoke bars and snooker (斯诺克) halls. Usually, I went to town for shopping, but because of my limited language skills, I didn’t often go to those “hang-out” kinds of places. Therefore, I spent most of my time working. I really focused on my lessons, making them as perfect as possible.
Every day, the little dog wandered into my office and sat quietly in the corner. Most of the other teachers would shoo (轰走) him out of the office with a loud “Hi-ya!”, and the little guy would bow his oversized head and run away. I didn’t shoo him away, though. Whenever he wandered into my room, I’d just ignore him. He’d walk between the desks for a while before settling under a teacher’s desk at the back of the room. He wouldn’t sleep or do anything else, just watch me.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Over time, the dog started following me, becoming a regular part of my day.

I understand your concern about studies, but I believe participating in clubs can actually enhance your school life without affecting your academic performance.
Firstly, clubs provide a great way to relax and reduce stress, which can actually improve your focus when studying. Secondly, you’ll develop time-management skills by balancing responsibilities, a skill that’s useful for your study too. Lastly, clubs offer opportunities to make friends and learn new things, enriching your overall school experience.
Of course, it’s important to choose one or two clubs that truly interest you and set a time limit for activities. I’m sure you’ll find the right balance!
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】参考范文:
Over time, the dog started following me, becoming a regular part of my day. I’d see him on my walk to school, who was trying to keep pace with me. He’d attend at least one of my classes. At lunch, as he wasn’t allowed inside the school canteen, he’d patiently wait outside until I was done. I’d give him some food, and then he’d disappear somewhere. When I stayed late in the office alone for lesson plans for the next day, the dog friend would run in. Somehow, he knew that I needed someone to talk to. When I finished my work, we would walk on the way home.
When the dog led me to the town one day my lonely days here began to end. One night, I stayed alone in the office preparing for my lesson plans as usual. When I was finishing my work, the dog ran in.
