With such a strong artistic heritage, it's no surprise that England knocks it out of the park when it comes to world class art galleries. These are the galleries you need to add to your must visit list.
Royal Academy of Arts (RA), London
Not your standard gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts is led by artists to promote not just the appreciation of art, but its practice. Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Yorkshire
Tearing up the rulebook when it comes to how we traditionally view art, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park tries to break down barriers by showing works from British and international artists in the open air. Set in hundreds of acres of West Yorkshire parkland, you'll see sculptures by some of the leading artists of the 20th century.
Whitworth, Manchester
After a sky high £15 million development, the Whitworth is becoming one of the premier galleries in the north of England. Arun Kumar Bajaj has a very unusual skill—he can paint with a sewing machine (缝纫机). Technically, it's embroidering (绣), not painting, but his artworks are so detailed that they can pass paintings to the untrained eyes. And the fact that he does it all with a sewing machine just makes that much more impressive.
Arun was really good at drawing and painting while growing up and dreamed of becoming a famous painter, but his father died suddenly 15 years ago, which destroyed his plans and forced him to give up school in order to run the family business. His father was a tailor (裁缝) and he became one too, but he didn't let the artist in him die. He started “painting” with a needle and thread, but instead of using his hands, he decided on a rather unusual tool—the sewing machine. It took him a while to master this unique art form, but today he is recognized as the world's only sewing machine artist. His works become very popular both in India and abroad. It's easy to see why, just by looking at them, but what really makes his embroideries special is the tool he uses.
“You need to be very careful because once you've stitched (缝合) the cloth, there's no way you can repair it,” Arun said. “It's all done in a single layer to give the painting a neat look.”
Some of Arun's most impressive works include a 4×2 feet painting of the court of Ranjit Singh which took the artist over a year to finish. Arun runs a tailoring business in the Adalat Bazar of Patiala, but he devotes a lot of his time to his artistic dream as well.
24.Why do Arun's paintings leave a deep impression on people
A.They have rich contents.
B.They take many years to finish.
C.They give people a sense of satisfaction.
D.They are finished with a sewing machine.
25.What made Arun give up his former plans
A.His father's sudden death.
B.His father's serious illness.
C.His love for sewing machines.
D.His position in his family business.
26.What should Arun do when he paints
A.Keep stitching the cloth without disturbance.
B.Stitch the cloth again when making a mistake.
C.Be very careful to make sure paintings look neat.
D.Make sure the cloth he uses is very strong.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.Arun's Wonderful Life Journey
B.Arun's Most Impressive Works
C.Constant Effort Needed to Succeed
D.The World's Only Sewing Machine Painter

“Woman reading book, under a night sky, dreamy atmosphere,” I type into Deep Dream Generator's Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned to me showing what I've described.
Welcome to the world of AI image generation, where you can create what on the surface looks like top rank artwork using just a few text prompts (提示). But closer examination shows oddities. The face of the woman in my image has very odd features, and appears to be holding multiple books. And, while there's an initial thrill at seeing an image appear, there's no creative satisfaction.
AI image generation could influence everything from film to graphic novels and more. Children's illustrators were quick to raise concerns about the technology. They say AI generated art is the exact opposite of what art is believed to be. Fundamentally, art is all about translating something that you feel internally into something that exists externally. Whatever form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it's about the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.
Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images from prompts, AI generators rely on databases of already existing art and text. This could lead to the creation of images that are intentionally meant to imitate the style of other artists, without their agreement. There is an argument that AI generators work no differently to humans when it comes to being influenced by others' work. However, a human artist is also adding emotion and nuance (细微差别) into the mix. AI doesn't do the same—it can only copy.
The increasing use of AI will also lead to a devaluing (贬低) of the work of artists. There's already a negative prejudice towards the creative industry. People will begin to think that their “work” is as excellent as that created by someone who has spent a career making art. It's nonsense, of course. You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughter, but you are no match for professionals.
28.What does the writer think of his image creation
A.Exciting. B.Appealing.
C.Unsatisfying. D.Shocking.
29.What do children's illustrators value most about art
A.The creating process.
B.The final work.
C.Personal feelings.
D.External forms.
30.What is Paragraph 4 of the text mainly about
A.The styles of human artworks and AI ones.
B.Human artists' influence on AI generators.
C.Different means used in human and AI art creation.
D.The drawbacks of drawing from existing art and text.
31.Which of the following best summarizes the last paragraph
A.Art is the mirror of life.
B.Rome is not built in a day.
C.No man can do two things at once.
D.Don't judge a book by its cover.

With her exit to care for a family member, Sluhan, a preschool art teacher, will help her students show their artworks in her last art show with the school. The preschoolers hold a display each year, allowing the parents an insight into what they have been doing in the classroom.
On Thursday, the school will be closed for Sluhan to change it into an art gallery featuring hundreds of the students' pieces. “Before, we would just put paintings up in classrooms, taped to the walls,” said director Seely. “Now, the school will be completely changed. You won't even know it's a preschool.”
Sluhan thinks that it is important for the children to explore several different methods of art. She has broken with the traditional way of teaching. The preschoolers experiment with different materials and colors to learn what they like and also appreciate art. Seely says there has been an increase in the students' interest in art since Sluhan joined the preschool six years ago. Many of the young students have listed “artist” when asked what they want to be when they grow up.
The kids receive one hour of art each week from Sluhan, and she tries to fill each hour with enriching material to create a foundation for their education. She believes that the lessons help the children become appreciative of art. They are better able to recognize that art is not one particular thing.
In practice, the art show is a visual way for parents to understand some of what the students have learned. It's also a way for the kids to show off.
For the past six years, Sluhan has put in a lot of work to create the art program and the art show as they are now. With her leaving, a new art teacher will continue with the art shows and the curriculum Sluhan has established.
32.Why will the art show be Sluhan's last one
A.She is about to quit her post.
B.The art class will be called off.
C.The school is about to be closed.
D.She will go to teach in another school.
33.What is Sluhan's art class like
A.Unproductive. B.Unpractical.
C.Fruitful. D.Conventional.
34.What is Sluhan's purpose of introducing art to preschoolers
A.To help them enjoy art.
B.To inspire them to be artists.
C.To offer them a chance to show off.
D.To cater to their parents' preferences.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.Art Lessons: Understanding Kids
B.An Art Teacher: Keeping Teaching
C.An Art Show: Parting with Students

Art comes in two main categories: realistic and abstract. Realistic art aims to show real life scenes, people, and objects exactly as they appear. It involves paying close attention to details, making things look like photographs. __36__. It's more about expressing feelings, emotions, and ideas.
Realistic art is easy to understand. Viewers can easily recognize what is portrayed. Take the Mona Lisa, for example—it's a realistic painting of a lady with a mysterious smile. __37__, helping us to learn about the past.
Unlike realistic art, abstract art is more about being creative. __38__. They use shapes, colors and patterns to express feelings and ideas. Abstract art means different things to different people. Some people enjoy trying to figure out what the artwork conveys.
__39__. Realistic art needs precision in drawing or sculpting to make things look real. Abstract art requires imagination to use shapes and colors in new ways. Many artists are skilled in both. They create realistic pieces to demonstrate their technical skills and abstract ones to display their creativity.
As for personal preference, some people prefer the clear stories of realistic art while others are attracted to the mystery of abstract art, interpreting meanings in the shapes and forms. Together, the two kinds of art make the art world diverse and engaging. __40__.
A.Both types of art take skills to make
B.Photographs preserve faces of folks from long ago
C.Grasping abstract art demands more artistic training
D.Both ways of creating art have their own value and beauty
E.In contrast, abstract art focuses less on realistic appearances
F.Artworks like this tell stories about history and everyday life
G.Artists have the freedom to go beyond real life representations

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Rafael is my parents' friend who owns a bakery with the yummiest (最美味的) treats imaginable. He happened to stop by when my friends Mareya and Daniel, my little sister Indi and I were drawing with chalk in front of my house. He said our drawings were cool, while trying not to step on them as he walked toward the door to find my dad. We expressed our thanks and continued to draw.
A little while later, when he came back out with my dad, Rafael said he had been thinking about our wonderful drawings, and that he'd really love our help. He was going to sell cookies, and the profits would go to an organization that worked to save the rainforests. When asked if he wanted us to help taste the cookies, Rafael laughed and said “Of course”. But he said he also needed some artwork for the bags. He wondered if we would be up for making some sketches (草图) on paper that he could consider for the label.
We said yes right away. I mean, who wouldn't want to help the rainforests—and sample some of Rafael's delicious cookies Rafael had to leave for a meeting but promised to be back by four o'clock. “Don't worry about making the pictures perfect,” he said as he left. “Just have fun drawing.”
After we read a little bit about the rainforests, my mom helped get us set up with art supplies and background music. And away we drew! Finally, about five minutes before four o'clock, we decided to stop and look at one another's work. To our great surprise, Daniel made an incredible drawing. When asked why he never told us he could draw like that, Daniel just smiled. He said he was glad we liked it and that he thought all of ours were really awesome too.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
I liked my drawing, but after comparing it with Daniel's masterpiece, I felt like the worst artist ever. When I looked closely at everyone's art, I could see what Rafael meant.

Today, I'll talk about a great artist, Leonardo da Vinci. He was born in 1452 in the town of Vinci, near Florence, Italy. At 15, Leonardo went to work with a famous artist. At the age of 20, he was already a master painter. Although da Vinci was a great painter, he never gave up his interest in other subjects. For example, he drew a flying machine 400 years before the airplane was invented. In all, da Vinci designed more than 1,000 inventions. As a matter of fact, da Vinci started many projects that he never finished. He was always more interested in planning projects than doing them. He often quickly lost interest in one project and couldn't wait to start another. So he completed very few paintings. Da Vinci took four years to paint the Mona Lisa. Unfortunately, the man who ordered the painting didn't like it and refused to pay him. However, ten years later, da Vinci sold it to the King of France. The King hung it in the Louvre Palace in Paris. Today the Mona Lisa still hangs in the Louvre, which is now a museum.

It is world famous for hosting some exhibitions that get everyone talking. Besides, what sets the RA apart is its engagement with the public through participatory (参与式的) experiences, allowing visitors to not only view art but become part of it in innovative ways.
Making full use of its picturesque park setting, the gallery has a beautiful art garden and a sculpture terrace (露天平台), all waiting to be explored. Inside the gallery, you can view an exciting programme of ever changing exhibitions.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
I liked my drawing, but after comparing it with Daniel's masterpiece, I felt like the worst artist ever. When I looked closely at everyone's art, I could see what Rafael meant.
I liked my drawing, but after comparing it with Daniel's masterpiece, I felt like the worst artist ever. Just then, Rafael walked in and noticed my downcast expression. He asked if everything was alright and I told him how I felt. Rafael smiled and asked, “Do you want to know the secret of my yummy cookies?” “What's the secret?” I asked, expecting the answer. “It's the fun and joy in the baking process. You know, the most important thing about drawing, likewise, is not how perfect it looks, but how it makes you feel. Does your drawing make you happy If it does, then it's a masterpiece.”
When I looked closely at everyone's art, I could see what Rafael meant. Even though some of the drawings were not technically perfect, they all had a special quality that made them unique and beautiful in their own way. Mareya's and Indi's were bold and colorful, while mine was delicate and intricate. I think Rafael's words really captured the essence of what art is all about. It's not about conforming to a certain set of rules or standards, but rather about expressing oneself in a way that brings joy and meaning to the drawer and those who view the work.

It is world famous for hosting some
exhibitions that get everyone talking. Besides, what sets the RA apart is its engagement with the public through participatory (参与式的) experiences, allowing visitors to not only view art but become part of it in innovative ways.
Making full use of its picturesque park setting, the gallery has a beautiful art garden and a sculpture terrace (露天平台), all waiting to be explored. Inside the gallery, you can view an exciting programme of ever changing exhibitions.

He started “painting” with a needle and thread, but instead of using his hands, he decided on a rather
unusual tool—the sewing machine.

A.Keep stitching the cloth without disturbance.
B.Stitch the cloth again when making a mistake.

This could lead to the creation of images that are intentionally meant to imitate the style of other artists, without their
agreement.

篇章导读
28.What does the writer think of his image creation
A.Exciting. B.Appealing.
C.Unsatisfying. D.Shocking.
解析:推理判断题。根据第二段中的“The face of the woman ... no creative satisfaction.(在我的图像中,这个女人的脸有着非常奇怪的特征,还似乎拿着多本书。而且,虽然看到图像出现时会有一种最初的兴奋感,但却没有创造性的满足感。)”可推知,作者认为他的图像创作并不令人满意。故选C。
答案
解析
29.What do children's illustrators value most about art
A.The creating process.
B.The final work.
C.Personal feelings.
D.External forms.
解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Fundamentally, art is all about translating something ... the final piece. (从根本上说,艺术就是把你内心的感受转化成外在的东西。无论采用何种形式,真正的艺术都是关于创造过程而不是最终作品。)”可知,儿童插画家对艺术最看重的是创作的过程。故选A。

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。

[精彩范文]
答案
When I looked closely at everyone's art, I could see what Rafael meant. Even though some of the drawings were not technically perfect, they all had a special quality that made them unique and beautiful in their own way. Mareya's and Indi's were bold and colorful, while mine was delicate and intricate. I think Rafael's words really captured the essence of what art is all about. It's not about conforming to a certain set of rules or standards, but rather about expressing oneself in a way that brings joy and meaning to the drawer and those who view the work.
