Will you be crazy about these newly built products that are not merely quite useful but also good to the environment Come and see then!
 Eco friendly Umbrella
Traditional umbrellas come with a fixed surface. Although it is changeable, you cannot replace it easily. This eco friendly design is more flexible. It is actually only an umbrella skeleton without any surface, which can be folded, so you can put anything such as newspapers, plastic bags or whatever you want to serve as the protecting surface.
Pollution sensitive Dress
Don't be caught outside unaware of pollution levels in the air. The pollution sensitive EPA Dress by Stephanie Sandstrom notices pollution in the air accordingly. This dress—which is actually quite pretty—looks like you pull it from the bottom of the dirty laundry pile when the air is dirty. It might protect your health by advising you to stay indoors for the day, but it won't do you any favor if you're meeting with clients.
Eco friendly Car Racer
Can you image a car racer is so eco friendly that its tyres are made from potatoes, its body is created from hemp (大麻) and rapeseed oil and it runs on fuel made from wheat and sugar beet The one seater racing car called Eco One is built by experts from Warwick University, who hope that Eco One will be used by the automotive industry. It is sold at $51,000.
Eco friendly Moss (苔藓) Carpet
Do you know it is said that walking on fresh grass can really increase your blood circulation The Moss Carpet, created by Nguyen La Chanh, looks at getting the grass to your feet. The mat includes ball moss, island moss and forest moss. The humidity (湿度) of the bathroom ensures that it grows well. And that's why you need to place it there and not anywhere else.
21.The EPA Dress is designed to ________.
A.discourage people from going out
B.help meet with clients
C.improve people's appearance
D.inform people of air quality
22.What can we know about Eco One

Want to help fight global warming Take off your tie, says the Italian health ministry. It has urged employers to let their staff dress casually at work in the summer so that the air conditioning can be turned down.
“Taking your tie off immediately lowers the body temperature by 2 or 3 degrees centigrade,” the ministry said in a statement. “Allowing a more sensible use of air conditioning brings about electricity savings and protects the environment.”
It called on all public and private offices to let employees wear no tie during heatwaves like the one that has brought Africa like temperatures to many parts of Italy this week.
The move reacts to a similar action from Italy's biggest oil group, ENI, which told its staff earlier this month they need not wear a tie at work. The tie makers, however, were left hot__under__the__collar.
“Italy confirms that it is a strange country,” Flavio Cima said angrily in a letter to financial daily Il Sole 24 ORE under the headline: “I, tie maker, am responsible for global warming.”
“We can now happily continue with our lifestyle, using cars, consuming fuel, heating and cooling our homes at leisure. On one condition: we should not wear a tie while we do so,” he wrote.
“I should have listened to my friends and become an oil producer instead.”
Italy is one of the European Union's worst performers on the pollution front and is among the EU countries expected to exceed their greenhouse gas emission targets.
24.What's the purpose of the move of taking off ties
A.To dress casually.
B.To fight global warming.
C.To keep the body temperature.
D.To improve working conditions.
25.Who first encouraged employees to take off ties
A.ENI.
B.Flavio Cima.
C.A financial daily.
D.The Italian health ministry.
26.What does the underlined part “hot under the collar” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Angry. B.Speechless.
C.Delighted. D.Puzzled.
27.What can we know about Flavio Cima
A.He stands by the oil group.
B.He agrees with the ministry.
C.He admits his responsibility.
D.He argues against taking off ties.

These days a green building means more than just the colour of the paint. Green buildings can also refer to environmentally friendly houses, factories and offices. “Green building means reducing the effect of the building on the land,” Taryn Holowka of the US Green Building Council in Washington, said.
According to Holowka, buildings account for 65 percent of total US electricity use. But green buildings can reduce energy and water use. Also, the buildings are often located near public transportation, such as buses and subways, so that people can drive their cars less. That could be good for the environment, because cars use lots of natural resources, such as gasoline, and give off pollution.
Green buildings are often built on developed land, so that the buildings don't destroy forests or other wild habitats. Marty Dettling is the project manager for a building that puts these ideas into action. The Solaire has been called the country's first green residential high rise (高层的) building.
According to Dettling, “We've reduced our energy consumption (消耗量) by one third and our water by 50 percent.”
The Solaire cuts energy in part by using solar power. The Solaire also has lights that automatically (自动地) turn off when people leave the room. Plus, the building has lots of windows. This allows people to use the sun for light instead of lamps during the day.
28.Green buildings are ________.
A.far away from public transportation
B.built in the forests
C.earth friendly
D.often built on developing land
29.Green buildings are built near public transportation ultimately for the purpose of ________.
A.taking buses or subways easily
B.saving natural resources
C.driving private cars less
D.protecting the environment
30.The Solaire is thought to be “green” because it ________.
A.locates near a forest
B.lies close to stores
C.reduces energy and water use
D.was built with green materials
31.Which of the following is used to cut energy consumption in the Solaire
A.Closing windows as long as possible.
B.Reducing the time of using lights.
C.Recycling solar power.
D.Using natural resources.

Despite the bad reputation of sharks, they are crucial to the health of the marine ecosystem and can even help fight climate change.
In the shallows of Shark Bay, Western Australia, seagrass is food for the sea cows, which can weigh as much as 500 kg and eat roughly 40 kg of seagrass a day. Sea cows are a rich source of food for tiger sharks. By keeping the sea cow population controlled, tiger sharks here help the seagrass grow sustainably. A booming seagrass meadow stores twice as much CO2 per square mile as forests typically do on land.
But tiger shark numbers are declining. Off Australia's northeast coast of Queensland, tiger sharks are estimated to have fallen by at least 71 percent, largely due to overfishing. A reduction in tiger sharks means more seagrass consumed by herbivores (食草动物) and less carbon stored in sea vegetation. This raised the question: What if they were absent from the Shark Bay—would the seagrass dominated ecosystem survive
To find out, researchers led by Rob Nowicki of Florida International University, spent time in Eastern Australia, where shark numbers were lower and sea cows ate seagrass largely undisturbed. “When uncontrolled, sea cows can rapidly destroy wide areas of seagrass,” said Nowicki.
Those findings emphasized that tiger sharks were playing an important role in preventing the reduction of seagrass in Shark Bay. If their populations continue to decline, the resilience of carbon rich ocean ecosystems will likely decrease.
When it comes to stimulating shark numbers, there have been movements toward more sustainable fishing, but a large percentage of the industry have not changed their methods, which is a reason why the population of many marine top predators (捕食者) continues to decline.
Aside from supporting sustainable fishing, Nowicki said the only way to truly protect marine life is to reduce our global greenhouse gas emissions. “Ultimately, if we are going to protect our ecosystems in the centuries to come, we are going to need to solve climate change while undertaking species protection at the same time.”
32.Why are tiger sharks vital to the marine ecosystem
A.They feed on various sea animals.
B.They can store large amounts of CO2.
C.They can prevent the loss of seagrass.
D.They influence marine species' distribution.
33.What does the underlined word “resilience” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Sustainability. B.Recovery.
C.Preservation. D.Construction.
34.What is the main cause of the population reduction of many top predators
A.Climate change.
B.Lack of protection.
C.Unsustainable fishing.
D.Loss of seagrass.
35.What's the main idea of the text
A.The number of tiger sharks is decreasing.
B.Climate change causes the loss of seagrass.
C.Environmental protection is at the top of the agenda.
D.Tiger sharks are vital to the health of the marine ecosystem.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was eleven years old, I moved to Tampa, Florida. My parents traveled for a living, so Aunt Emily took care of me while they were away. One rainy morning, there was an old lady who was dressed in a bright orange coat carrying a rubbish bag and a stick. “What's that old lady doing?” I asked Emily, pointing out of the window to the street in front of the house.
Hearing my question, Emily answered, “She's picking up rubbish around here for fun.”“Oh,” I answered. “Interesting ... Why would someone think picking up rubbish is fun?” For a long time, I often saw that old lady—rain or shine—on my way to school. In the beginning, I thought she was crazy to pick up rubbish. However, I finally smiled and waved at her each time I saw her.
Later, when I moved to college, I'd see rubbish in the grass and feel really angry about it. I'd think, “Why isn't anyone picking up rubbish People are so unconcerned!” But shortly after that, I said to myself, “Why do I think picking up rubbish is someone else's duty?” And I couldn't walk past trash without feeling guilty (内疚的).
So while walking in the college, I began picking up rubbish and made sure the campus was in better shape than I previously found it. My behavior influenced some students. They started to help me out.
Like me, they also picked up rubbish whenever they noticed it. And our college became more beautiful. Seeing that, I began to think, “If I can pick up rubbish outside the college—in other places of the town, it may make a big difference to the town.”
But picking up rubbish in front of many people outside the college needs courage. It could be embarrassing. But it was the right thing to do. I decided to try it.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
So one day I called up all my courage and collected rubbish on a nearby street. I thought if more students took part in the voluntary activity, things would be much better.

Text 10
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting a group of nature lovers who are fighting climate change. The leader of the group, John, took a few minutes to sit down and talk to me about their projects. John told me that he started the group with his wife Eliza. A year later they had grown to 10 people and now, four years later, they have 50 volunteers. John said that they planted around 100 trees last week alone. Their group focuses on fixing the places where trees have been cut down by people. John stressed that humans need the trees as much as the animals do and that people tend to forget that trees aren't just materials to sell for profit. We also need them to breathe. I was able to hear more about Eliza, who has actually stopped doing the planting with them for the past year. Eliza still travels with them, but she's started a separate group called “The Knowing Tree”. John described the group as one to inform children about the importance of keeping our natural world in a good condition. It's truly inspiring.

Nowadays, pollution is getting worse and worse. The damage to the environment is getting serious. It's high time we should take some measures to protect the environment.
I think we should do as follows. Some useful garbage should be recycled, while the harmful things should be put in a safe place. Smoke and gas should be cleaned before they go into the air. We should plant trees and stop using wooden chopsticks and stop throwing garbage everywhere, doing our best to take good care of the environment. With modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. So it's a good idea to ban over fishing. What's more, we should protect the ocean, or we will be in great danger very soon.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
So one day I called up all my courage and collected rubbish on a nearby street. I thought if more students took part in the voluntary activity, things would be much better.

So one day I called up all my courage and collected rubbish on a nearby street. Some people watched me with a strange look that seemed to say I was crazy. And suddenly, I remembered that old lady, who often picked up rubbish years ago. The interesting thing was that I was acting just like her! As strange as it might seem, picking up rubbish is kind of fun for me! Gradually, many people realized I was volunteering to help make our town clean. They praised me and thanked me. Then I decided to encourage more students to do this in the town.
I thought if more students took part in the voluntary activity, things would be much better. We bought each student a bright orange coat with words on it: Let's make our town cleaner! And we took time to not only pick up rubbish but also sort through it and recycle it. Something amazing happened—the strangers around us helped us out too! I thought to myself, “The old lady made all this happen; she made a big difference in my life.”

18.What is the goal of John's group
A.To plant trees for materials.

The tie makers, however, were left hot under the collar.

Then I decided to encourage more students to do this in the town.
