It's common to hear Germans being highly regarded around the world for their workplace and office efficiency. It is true that German workers are more productive than the rest of their European neighbors, while still taking more sick days and holidays, especially in comparison to British workers.
One of the reasons is that Germans' better understanding of a work life balance. By truly finding that sweet spot between work and play, Germans can be far more productive within the office, while relaxing more efficiently. Lots of references to this balance can be found in German slang. “Brückentage”, or “bridge days”, is a common German saying which means to take time off around bank holidays, when most workers will take an extra day or two off work in order to refuel, preparing themselves mentally for the work ahead.
Another common German expression “Erst die Arbeit, dann das Vergnügen!”means “First work, then pleasure”. As such, there seems to be a culture within Germany of working first and then focusing on relaxing, all while understanding that taking time to recharge will help you be more productive in the future. There is a trend within British office workers to come to work, even when they are ill, and to pay little attention to any sickness in front of management. While this does lead to more time in the office, it has serious negative effects on productivity and creates the risk of illnesses passing between colleagues. However, in Germany, there is a strong feeling that if you are sick you should stay at home—not only does it protect other office workers, but it also allows the individual to rest and recover properly, meaning they are fit for work and more productive in a shorter space of time.
24.What can be known about German workers from Paragraph 1
A.They are believed to be more productive than British ones.
B.They are proud of having good working conditions.
C.They work less time due to fear of making mistakes.

25.What do Germans do during “bridge days”?

26.Which best shows Germans' understanding of a work life balance
A.Work less and play more.
B.Keep on working though ill.
C.First work, then pleasure.
D.More work, better life.
27.In which aspect do German workers differ from British workers
A.Working hours. B.Ways of management.
C.Work efficiency in offices. D.Attitudes to work with illness.
C
College. It means that you are finally going to leave your parents' nest and experience a lot of personal freedom and independence. You'll wear whatever you want. You'll make new friends. And you are definitely ready to enjoy your time in “paradise”.
However, college might be different than you have considered. When an English speaking contest was held in Beijing, about two thirds of the 62 college students recalled their frustrations about their life in college.
Many of them said they didn't know what they were supposed to do in college. “Most of the time, I lingered around in my dorm, idling__hours__and__hours__away,__watching entertainment shows or soap operas on the Internet, or chatting with roommates,” Huang Xuan, 23, from Guangxi University, said of his first two years of college life.
However, one day his mum asked him about his future plans after college. It was then that he realised his future would be ruined if he kept up such self indulgence.
Li Yan, 20, from Shenzhen University, suffered a loss of not being one of the “marked” students. She was neither the chairman of the Student Union nor the one with the highest scholarship. Sun Tingting, 21, from Suzhou University of Science and Technology, dominated all the exams with the highest scores, but she felt confused because when she was free, she could think of nothing else to do and no one else to talk to. Zhang Xin, 19, from Beijing Foreign Studies University, began to re examine what “college” means after she noticed many graduates from elite schools ending up in a job that does not pay well. “Our future is not guaranteed by our college, but rather by how we reshape ourselves in college.”
“Young people are experiencing ‘growing pains’,” said Li Fang, a mental health consultant. In the process of self discovery, she thinks many Chinese young people suffer more than their peers in the West. Their independence comes much later. They are so used to relying on their parents that when independence suddenly comes in college, it can be difficult.
“Relax,” Li advised. “This is part of growing up.”
28.The underlined expression “idling hours and hours away” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by “________”.
A.killing time B.making use of time
C.saving time D.valuing time
29.Which of the following frustrations of college students is NOT mentioned in the passage
A.They are no longer the “best” students.
B.They have no friends to talk to in their spare time.
C.They have trouble communicating with their parents.
D.They realise that good college doesn't guarantee a good job.
30.According to Li Fang, why do many Chinese young people suffer more than their peers in the West
A.They often abandon themselves to watching TV or shows on the Internet.
B.They are accustomed to counting on their parents before coming to college.
C.They have never left their parents' nests.
D.They are definitely ready to enjoy their time in college.
31.What is Li Fang's advice to young people
A.Learn from their peers in the West.
B.Consult a psychologist.
C.Relax and consider this as part of growing up.
D.Stop relying on their parents and learn to take responsibility.

Enjoying the beauty of the sky at night is a rare thing for people in cities since light pollution ruins everything. However, photos taken by astrophotographers (天文摄影师) give people opportunities to still admire the stars.
Being a full time astrophotographer, Zhang Jingyi, 27, grew up being an astronomy enthusiast. When asked why she chose this career, Zhang said, “We all dream of what it is like to live on planets so far from us. Isn't it cool?”
Due to the fast development of China's space industry, Zhang recently started to shoot rocket launches. “I basically followed the construction of the Tiangong space station with my camera,” she said, adding that every launch has given her a strong sense of achievement.
Zhang believes that her photos are artworks that money cannot buy. “Some photographers may sell their works—some photos even reach six digits (六位数),” Zhang said. “For me, I would be satisfied if people liked my work.” As an influencer on Sina Weibo with more than 2.5 million followers, Zhang also shares videos that she's filmed, giving her audience a more authentic impression of her work.
Zhang said that an astrophotographer needs to be devoted to their career. For example, when taking photos of the stars, they have to film them on plateaus which are freezing at night. When shooting rockets, they may get sunburned working under the burning sun. “These hardships are nothing if you truly love what you do,” Zhang said.
Gaining experience is also important. “There isn't a detailed guidebook for creating art,” Zhang said. “You have to learn from your own work. Gradually, you can add personal thoughts into the filming process and witness your work improving.”

Having struggled with financial difficulties for six months and failing to find a way out, I had to close my technology writing business. Fortunately, I found a new job as a salesperson and soon got a client. At the time, I wondered if it was too good to be true.
By the second month, something didn't seem right, and I developed a bad feeling about the client and the work. When the third month's check didn't arrive on time, I sent the client an e mail to find out what was going on. But there was no reply. Then I sent another e mail, and another. The check never arrived, and I never heard from the client again. With no hope in sight, I hit rock bottom. Panic replaced cautious optimism along with my last self confidence.
I hid myself from friends and locked myself in my room. One night, the phone rang. The call was from Eric, a friend of mine from high school. When he was in high school, he told me many times about his parents' divorce and his loss of confidence in the college entrance examination. During the difficult time, I gave him much comfort and encouragement. Later, he went to college and was always grateful for what I had done.
After the greetings, I told my problems and challenges, hoping my friend would say something comforting. What I didn't expect was a string of sharp words. “What is wrong with you You can do anything you want to do,” he said. “You are a writer, so start writing. Write for magazine.” “Write for magazine Are you out of your mind I don't know the first thing about writing for magazine, let alone write things that anyone would want to read. And I have to know where I can send an application form—to what magazine and to what editor,” I shouted at him.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Surprisingly, I felt a little better after the shouting. On finishing the application form I sent it to the editor.

First of all, I choose the major of English. Not only will I gain a deep insight into English culture, but I can also use English as a tool to build closer bond between China and the global world. Speaking of advice, you are supposed to consider your real interest and what kind of person you want to be when you choose your job in the future. If I were you, I would communicate with my parents and teachers, consulting them about the major choice.

Surprisingly, I felt a little better after the shouting. After a short silence, Eric replied in a firm voice. “I always remember what you said when I was in trouble. You said ‘No one can get you out of trouble but yourself.’” Hearing that, I was speechless and struck by the fact that it was easier to convince others than to convince myself. Inspired by Eric's words, I started searching for magazines the next day and finally found one that accepted online contributions with various topics. Then I began to prepare my application form.
On finishing the application form I sent it to the editor. Luckily, two days later I received a positive response and an invitation to write. At first, I only wrote articles I was expert in. Gradually, I began trying new types. One day, much to my amazement, one of my articles appeared on the first page of the magazine! Since then, I have been on my way to becoming an excellent writer. That definitely should be credited to Eric. It was he who enlightened me and helped me regain confidence to face challenges in my life.

Dear Chris,
Knowing that you’re confused about the major in college and the occupation choice in the future, I’m delighted to inform you of my choice and give you some advice.
I do hope my advice can be some help. Best wishes to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
What I didn't expect was a string of sharp
words.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Surprisingly, I felt a little better after the shouting.﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍﹍
