Editorial positions are named in May, allowing editors to attend a two-day summer meeting at NYU. This meeting allows students to develop their ability to get knowledge before the start of the school year. Work on the yearbook begins immediately thereafter, as students work to create an impressive K-12 publication.

The winter break is just about to end. Soon we will be back at school. It's with both happiness and sadness. I very much look forward to seeing my friends and starting practice again, but it also means I'm officially halfway through the exchange year. With school starting there are new things to try and experience. For example, I'm starting a new sport, track and field. It's similar to cross-country, which I did from August till November.
Being here for half a year now, I can easily tell the difference between my two schools. The hardest or most different part for me is to have the same schedule every day here. Honestly, I prefer to have different classes every day, as I did in my home country. However, I am attracted to the Friday football games. Football is one of my favorite sports now. Before I came, I knew nothing about it. Now I am addicted to it, especially to watching it with my host parents. I have also been so lucky to go to two college football games.
Before I left school in December, I had a couple of tests called the midterm tests. They all went pretty smoothly, mostly because I didn't have too many hard classes. My favorite course was English, and it was also my hardest one. Personally I really liked English classes, where I could write essays, develop writing skills and improve spoken English.
Only four days of the winter break are left. Part of me wants to be on a break forever, but I also wish to get started again, starting a new sport and seeing my friends and classmates.
24.Why does the author feel sad before school starts again?
A.Her homework is not finished.
B.The exchange year will end soon.
C.Her school life will get harder.
D.The new sport no longer attracts her.
25.How does the school in the author's home country differ from the one she is in now?
A.The courses are richer. B.The teachers are kinder.
C.The meals are healthier. D.The holidays are longer.
26.What does the author enjoy doing most with the host family?
A.Having a talk in English.
B.Playing video games.
C.Watching football matches.
D.Visiting her relatives.
27.What does the underlined word “They” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.Classes. B.Tests.
C.Games. D.Students.

Researchers at Rice University have offered a new idea to help cities deal with climate change. According to their study, creating networks of “sister cities” can help reduce the damage caused by climate change and natural disasters.
The study, published in the journal Nature and led by Professors Cymene Howe and Dominic Boyer, explores how “sister cities”—similar-sized communities in two different countries with long-term and broad connections—can be beneficial. The first Sister Cities International Program began after World War Ⅱ and traditionally focused on social and political factors such as trade relationships and diplomacy(外交).
However, Professors Howe and Boyer believe that these connections can be powerful tools for helping people deal with climate change, especially as cities face issues like wildfires and extreme storms. They suggest forming a network called “Sister Cities for the Anthropocene” to raise awareness about climate-related disasters in urban communities around the world.
Howe explains, “The purpose of this network is to create relationships and connections that help develop ideas and best practices to address the effects of climate change. This network also considers future challenges. We know that we will face more extreme storms, droughts, and wildfires. We aim to prevent as many of these terrible effects as possible.”
In regions often affected by wildfires and droughts, “sister cities” can learn from other urban communities how to adapt to a hotter, drier future and make plans to adjust. In areas where flooding and the sea level rise increasingly threaten(威胁) residents, “sister cities” can look at the responses of non-governmental organizations or community groups.
Howe notes that while it is encouraging that many people are already talking about climate change, related disasters, and problem-solving measures, this network would build stronger relationships between cities and bring more public attention to the effects of climate change.
28.What do we know about the idea of “sister cities”?
A.It was only put forward recently.
B.It was practiced in just one country.
C.It refers to a short-term plan about all the cities.
D.It goes further than the original functions now.
29.What do Howe and Boyer think “sister cities” can do in their network?
A.Reduce the effects of climate change.
B.Contribute to the sea level rise.
C.Improve trade relationships.
D.Focus on social factors.
30.What does Howe want to say in the last paragraph?
A.People don't care about climate change.
B.Their new network can make a difference.
C.Sister cities should concentrate on storms.
D.Climate issues have got solved completely.
31.Which title is suitable for the text?
A.The Rise of Sister Cities in the World
B.Historical Development of Sister Cities
C.Climate Change and Urban Communities
D.The Network of Sister Cities for Climate Action

Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends—532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.
But is it possible that Kaylee's online friendship could be making her lonely? That's what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendship.
Could this be true? During your parents' childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other. ?
Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teenager sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of his time is spent on social media platforms(平台) like Instagram and Facebook.
In fact, in many ways, online communication enables friendship to be stronger. “There's obviously a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.
Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendship. “If we are constantly checking out our virtual(虚拟的) world, we will be addicted and have little time for our real-world friendship,” says Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today's kids might mistake the “friends” on social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don't need someone to like your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.
32.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To summarize the text.
B.To bring up the topic.
C.To encourage online friendship.
D.To tell something about true friends.
33.What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.In any case. B.In person.
C.In a hurry. D.In advance.
34.What is Katie's attitude towards online communication?
A.Positive. B.Unconcerned.
C.Confused. D.Worried.
35.What view does Rosen hold?
A.It's wise to turn to online friends.
B.It's easier to develop friendships in reality.
C.Social media help people stay closely connected.
D.Teenagers need to focus on real-world friendships.

I couldn't forget the way I froze in front of the class. My teacher, Mr. Liu had divided the class into groups to make speeches. That day was my turn. However, my hands shook so badly that I couldn't read my content. My voice became smaller and smaller. Mr. Liu kindly ended my speech even though I clearly didn't finish. He also asked me to stay after class for a moment.
“Betty, I know you are shy, but you worked so hard on this project. I hate to see you give up on yourself,” Mr. Liu said. “If I give you another chance, do you think you can find courage?” I nodded, grateful for the chance. I went as quickly as I could to my next class, keeping my head down and hoping the school day would end soon.
When I reached home that afternoon, I could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mum was baking(烘烤) a cake. She studied my face as I came into the kitchen. “What's wrong, Betty?”
Tears welled up in my eyes. I told her the whole story. Mum was silent for a moment with her hands busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything but you can't talk to your class?” Mum asked. She set the time right and then said, “Let me show you something.”
I followed her to the bedroom. There she showed me a book filled with pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon(丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of her at a very young age, standing with her parents.
“I won it in public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn't easy at first—I was not sure of myself at all. But I worked hard, and most importantly, I faced my tears. You just need to find your courage.”

故选A。

由第五段中的“In fact, in many ways...with each other”可知,事实上,在很多方面,在线交流可以使友谊更加牢固,Katie认为,这明显有积极的影响。 故选A。

51.C 下一句讲到如果Lin在穿过校园去上另一节课的时候想去洗手间,他最后会 52 ,结合本段最后一句的“it'll take me some time to find my way”可知,洗手间(Bathrooms)距离教室太远。故选C。 ?

55.B 根据前面的“graduate with excellent grades”可知,这里指“上大学”(attend a university),故选B。
第二节

第二节
One possible version:
Hearing Mum's words, I stared at the valuable blue ribbon, lost in thought. What was it that made me so afraid? But still no answer came out. Soon the cake was finished. We went back to the kitchen for the baked cake. Mum cut a slice and handed it to me, saying, “You can make it.” I raised the warm cake to my mouth. It was so delicious and fragrant. Then Mum tied the blue ribbon to my wrist. Suddenly I knew where I could find my courage. It was from my mum's love.
The next day I walked to the front of the classroom to give my speech. Seeing the quiet classroom, I couldn't help but feel nervous again, my mind going blank and my voice trembling. Then I saw the blue ribbon which my mum tied to my wrist. I thought of Mum's warm cake, her love and her inspiring experience. Then I took a deep breath and gave my speech with confidence. This time there was no fear any more but a big round of applause.
