My journey home from school is nothing special. The train is always busy but I usually find a seat and start reading or texting my friends, making sure, like everyone else, not to look at other people.
But last Tuesday was different. I was happily listening to some new music when the train suddenly stopped. This wasn't unusual and I didn't think anything of it. Then after about five minutes, I noticed people were starting to get a bit angry. Fifteen minutes later, people started getting angrier. The longer the train stood still, the angrier people became until finally the announcement came:“We are sorry to announce that this train is delayed (延误).”
That seemed to calm people down and so we all went back to what we were doing before, but soon there was another announcement:“It will be a long time before we get there—a train had broken down in front of us.”There was a large sigh throughout the carriage(车厢)but then something unexpected happened: complete strangers started talking to each other. I started chatting to a couple of young tourists. They were from Spain and they were travelling around the UK so I suggested some places they should visit. Next I really surprised myself by starting a conversation with a businesswoman. She was going to take three months to climb Qomolangma. It was great talking to her. Then I decided to get up and go for a walk down the train. I met a woman who had been a student at my school seven years before and knew lots of my teachers.
While we were talking, we heard there was a patient in another part of the train who needed help and the woman from my school jumped into action. It turned out she was a nurse and when she came back, she was welcomed as a hero.
Then, after two hours, we started moving again. Everyone clapped and cheered and some people, complete strangers three hours before, even hugged. I will never forget the day the train stopped and people started talking.

C. The track was under repair. D. A previous train stopped working.

B. He saved a person's life on the train.
C. He met some classmates during the trip.
D. It was the first time he had met with an accident.
7.What did the author talk about with the nurse
A. Some famous tourist spots. B. Their former teachers.
C. Some stories of businesswomen. D.Their mountain climbing experiences.

In another application of artificial intelligence, a team of archaeologists(考古学家) from the Nazca Institute at the University of Yamagata in Japan, in cooperation with IBM Research, have discovered 303 new geoglyphs(地画)in the Nazca region of Peru. Though these figures are not nearly as large as their Nazca Lines(纳斯卡线条) counterparts, their discovery has helped boost the understanding of the transition from the Paracas culture to the Nazca culture.
The AI model, assisted by low-flying drones(遥控飞机), was able to accomplish what the naked eye could not—quickly and accurately discovering the smaller relief-type(浮雕形) geoglyphs in the desert area. While it previously took nearly a century to identify a total of 430 geoglyphs, AI only took six months to find over 300. By scanning several kilometers of the Nazca region each day, researchers reduced the time needed for the work, from three to four years to just two or three days. Measuring only three to seven meters across, these newly discovered figures were so small that they would not have been detected(检测) by flyovers of the past.
The geoglyphs, which date back to about 200 BCE, show images of parrots, cats, monkeys, killer whales and many other things. While the nearby Nazca Lines are said to have been made for the gods to view, these smaller geoglyphs were possibly used as signs or representations of family. Johny Isla, Peru’s chief archaeologist for the Nazca Lines, states that they were “made by humans for humans” as they depict scenes from everyday life.
The use of AI in archaeological research has opened the door to many more potential discoveries. It may help reveal(展现) even more hidden treasures that have been lying in plain sight for centuries.
8.What advantage does AI have over traditional methods in discovering geoglyphs
A. It can detect geoglyphs of any size immediately.
B. It replaces the need for drones in archaeological research.
C. It focuses only on large-scale geoglyphs like the Nazca Lines.
D. It greatly reduces the time required for discovery.
9. What is the main reason for the difficulty in detecting the newly discovered geoglyphs in the
past according to the passage
A. The limited scanning technology. B. Their small size.
C. The vast area of the Nazca region. D. The lack of professional archaeologists.
10. What can we know about the purpose of the smaller geoglyphs compared to the Nazca Lines
A. They served social functions.
B. They were created for god.
C. They aimed to communicate with alien creatures.
D. They were designed to show technological advancements.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. The Mysterious Nazca Lines: A Cultural Heritage
B. Drones and Their Role in Modern Archaeology
C. From Paracas to Nazca: A Cultural Transition
D. AI Advances Archaeological Discoveries in Peru
D
Even if you haven’t held a conversation with Siri or Alexa, you’ve likely encountered a chatbot online. They often appear in a chat window that pops up with a friendly greeting: Thank you for visiting our site. How can I help you today Depending on the site, the chatbot is programmed to respond accordingly and even ask follow-up questions.
Chatbots communicate through speech or text. Both rely on artificial intelligence technologies like machine learning and natural language processing (NLP), which is a branch of artificial intelligence that teaches machines to read, analyze and interpret human language. This technology gives chatbots a baseline for understanding language structure and meaning. NLP, in essence, allows the computer to understand what you are asking and how to appropriately respond.
With developments in deep learning and reinforcement learning, chatbots can interpret more complexities in language and improve the dynamic nature of conversation between human and machine. Essentially, a chatbot tries to match what you’ve asked to an intent(意图)that it understands. The more a chatbot communicates with you, the more it understands and the more it learns to communicate like you and others with similar questions. Your positive responses reinforce its answers, and then it uses those answers again.
From customer service chatbots online to personal assistants in our homes, chatbots have started to enter our lives. In almost every industry, companies are using chatbots to help customers easily navigate their websites, answer simple questions and direct people to the relevant points of contact. Personal assistants like Siri and Alexa are designed to respond to a wide range of scenarios and queries, from current weather and news updates to personal calendars, music selections and random questions.
12.Why does the author mention Siri and Alexa in Paragraph 1
A. To explain how a chatbot works. B.To give examples of chatbots.
C. To show where to find a chatbot. D. To compare different chatbots.
13. What is the basis of chatbots
A. Language study. B. Data transmission.
C. Natural language processing. D. Social interaction.
14. What does the underlined word “reinforce” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Strengthen. B. Inspire. C. Organize. D. Match.
15. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The future trend of chatbots. B. The author’s predictions.
C. The applications of chatbots. D. The effects of chatbots.
