With a keen sense of smell and short legs, Fu Zai has won a huge social media audience that has followed him doing official duties as a sniffer (嗅探犬) dog last fall. He was a pet dog when a dog trainer spotted his potential at a park and employed him to the Weifang Public Security Bureau, in Shandong, China.
Fu Zai’s trainer, Zhao Qingshuai, said in an interview that he had initially ruled out a corgi (柯基) as a police dog because of the breed’s (品种) reputation for curiosity and distractibility, not to mention the short legs. Meeting Fu Zai changed his mind. Mr. Zhao said that after first encountering the dog in the park, Fu Zai had come running after Mr. Zhao called his name. “He could not resist food, an indication that he has a strong drive to work for food,” Mr. Zhao said.
He later invited Fu Zai to train at the police base to assess his skills. Over the next few months, the corgi did well in detecting explosives. Most importantly, he could fit under tight spaces some other dogs couldn’t reach, making it easy to sniff out the bottom of vehicles and inspect the underside of bus seats.
Fu Zai became a full-time member of the Weifang police. He has since been famous around the Chinese internet as a friendly face for the regional force, making frequent appearances on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. A separate account the department maintains, named “Fu Zai and his comrades (同事),” has more than 400,000 followers. The videos show a glimpse of police dog life: practicing drills, patrolling (巡逻) a regional kite festival and riding on the back of a motorcycle, doggy shades on.
Whether as desire he can’t resist or a treat used in training, there will probably be more sausage in Fu Zai’s future. And whatever his performance review says, his status as a social media star is unlikely to fade.
4. Why didn’t the trainer choose a corgi at first
A. Because of his aggression. B. Because of his short legs.
C. Because of his absent-mindedness. D. Because of his greed for food.
5. What does the author probably think of Fu Zai
A. Easily motivated by food to work. B. Largely symbolic for luck.
C. Physically strong to perform tasks. D. Extremely sensitive to potential dangers.
6. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. The harmony of Fu Zai and his comrades. B. The contribution of Fu Zai to the followers.
C. The activities of Fu Zai’s training life. D. The popularity of Fu Zai on social media.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A New Policeman B. A Pet Puppy Called Fu Zai
C. Police Internet Celebrity Corgi D. A Chance Encounter with Fu Zai
C
Generally defined as difficulty in maintaining attention or interest in a current activity, boredom is commonly viewed as a negative state that we should try to avoid. But what if there’s another way to view boredom as a positive state Could learning to embrace (拥抱) boredom be of benefit
We live in a society with information overload and high stress. Relatedly, many of us have adopted a fast-paced lifestyle, constantly scheduling ourselves to keep busy. This constant stimulation can be costly, particularly for our nervous system. Our overscheduling can feed into overstimulation of the nervous system.
However, when we are constantly stressed by new information and different activities, the sympathetic nervous system can stay activated for too long, due to the increasing effects of repeated exposure to different stressors. This is sometimes referred to as “allostatic overload”. It is when our nervous system becomes overwhelmed, keeping us in a heightened state of awakening, which can increase our risk of anxiety. Keeping away from the state of boredom makes us away from a simple and natural way to reset our sympathetic nervous system.
Could boredom be good for us In small doses, boredom is the necessary counterbalance to the overstimulated world. It can offer unique benefits for our nervous system and our mental health. There are several benefits of giving ourselves permission to be occasionally bored: improves our creativity, allowing us to build “flow” in our thoughts; develops independence in thinking; encourages finding other interests rather than relying on constant external input; supports self-esteem and emotional regulation, because unstructured times can help us sit with our feelings which are important for managing anxiety; encourages periods without device use to reduce sensory input to help calm anxiety.
Anxiety levels are on the rise worldwide, especially among our youth. We are constantly “on”, trying to ensure we are scheduling for every moment. But in doing so, we are potentially preventing our brains from the downtime they need to reset and recharge.
We need to embrace the pause. It is a space where creativity can prosper, emotions can be regulated, and the nervous system can reset.
8. What may cause our risk of anxiety
A. Much exposure to boredom. B. Keeping away from boredom.
C. Much interest in current activities. D. Nervous system overload.
9. What may reduce anxiety in the text
A. Independent thinking. B. External input.
C. Unplanned times. D. Awakening state.
10. What does the underlined word “downtime” in Paragraph 5 mean
A. Relaxing time. B. Working time. C. Limited time. D. Extended time.
11. What can we infer from the text
A Boredom beats youngsters down. B. Boredom is positive to some extent.
C. Brains need more boredom than stress. D. A fast-paced lifestyle is irreplaceable.
D
In many science labs, animals like mice or rabbits are often used to study diseases, test new drugs, and check chemical safety. However, new technology is changing that. Scientists are now building new ways to do research without using animals. These new methods can be more kind to animals, faster, and more correct.
One exciting tool is the organ-on-a-chip. These are very small devices that mimic (模仿) human organs such as the heart, lungs, or liver. Scientists grow real human cells on these chips (芯片) so they work like real organs. Instead of testing a drug on a mouse, scientists can watch how human tissue reacts. Another approach uses computer models and artificial intelligence (AI).These smart programs can look at lots of data and guess how drugs will act in the human body. AI can also help spot toxic (引起中毒的) effects and side effects before real tests begin. A third method is 3D cell cultures. These grow in three dimensions and are called “mini-organs.” They are more like real human tissues and help doctors understand how diseases grow and how drugs work inside the body.
Why are these new tools so important Testing on animals is often expensive, takes a lot of time, and is sometimes not correct. Also, animals are not the same as humans. So, results from animals may not work for people. Many people also believe it is wrong to hurt animals for science if there are better ways.
Scientists think that one day labs will use chips, AI, and 3D models together to build a “virtual human body”. This could help test new drugs, understand new viruses, and guess health results — all without using any animals.
In short, science is moving forward. With new technology, we may no longer need animals to understand medical problems. These tools are helping us move to a future where research is smarter, faster, and more fair.
12. What can an “organ-on-a-chip” be probably
A A 3D printed human organ. B. A computer model of a body part.
C. A number of animal cells for testing. D. An imitated human organ from real cells.
13. What is special about 3D cell cultures in the text
A. They develop slowly in tiny sizes. B. They are easier to survive in the state.
C. They are much like real human tissue. D. They attach themselves to human bodies.
14. What can we infer about future research in the text
A. A virtual human system may one day be built.
B. Scientists will focus less on ethical (伦理) issues.
C. New drugs will no longer need any testing.
D. Animal testing will become more popular again.
15. What is the main purpose of this article
A. To describe how animals help in research. B. To report dangers of using AI in science.
C. To explain new ways to reduce animal testing. D. To suggest banning animal labs immediately.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
Persons places, or things become dearer to us when they are not with us or within our reach. Something like this also happened with the two siblings (姐弟), Amy and Andy.
Amy was two years older than Andy. Both of them couldn’t tolerate each other and kept on fighting without any reason. Their parents tried their best to create a friendly relationship between them, but it seemed nothing had any effect on them.
One day, when the siblings had another fight, their parents had to take a serious step. It was night time when their parents had gone to sleep. One after the other, the children crept (蹑手蹑脚地走) into the kitchen and both started fighting over a jar of cookies. “These cookies are mine. Don’t you dare to touch them,” Amy said in a sharp tone. “Give them to me! Mum brought all these cookies for me!” Andy shouted. They both started to snatch (夺) the jar from each other until it slipped and fell on the kitchen floor. The jar broke into several pieces that spread all over the floor. As a result, Andy accidentally cut his foot by stepping on one of the broken pieces of glass. He started to cry loudly.
Hearing the cries of Andy, their parents woke up and rushed to the kitchen. When they saw the kitchen floor all messed up and how Andy was hurt, they got very angry. “See what you both have done!” their mum said seriously. But both the siblings still didn’t stop accusing each other. “It was all Andy’s fault,” Amy said. “No, I also wanted to eat these cookies,” Andy explained, wiping tears from his eyes. “That’s enough. We don’t want to listen to both of you now. Amy go to your room and Andy come with me,” Dad said in anger.
The parents sought to end all this nonsense forever. So the next morning, at the breakfast table, their parents revealed their solution — they were sending Andy to a boarding school to study. Andy didn’t want to go but his parents were firm. The news made Amy very happy.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】My Views on Filming Short Videos on Campus
Dear classmates,
Recently, some of us have been filming short videos on campus. In my opinion, it can be a fun way to record campus life, but it also has its drawbacks. Not only may it distract us from our studies and even disrupt the school order, but it might also cause unnecessary comparisons and affect our self-esteem when the videos don’t get the expected response.
I suggest we should limit the time for filming and choose proper places. Let’s focus more on our academic tasks and make good use of our time on campus.
Thank you!

【答案】范文
Thus, Andy was gone and Amy was very excited that now she was the only child in the house. The first two days for her were enjoyable but, as time passed, she started to miss her younger brother. She felt very lonely. After about a week, she made a request, “Mum, Dad, please bring Andy back home.” The parents were astonished to hear Amy’s words. Dad questioned her, “Do you want him back so you can fight again ” “No, I am not going to fight with Andy again. I have realized my mistakes. Please bring him back. I am missing him very much!” Amy started to cry. “OK, we’ll see what we can do about it,” said her father.
Amy was lost in thought all day, wondering whether her parents would bring Andy back home or not. The next day, when Amy woke up, she found her brother sitting on a nearby chair and smiling. She couldn’t believe her eyes! They gave each other a big hug and apologized for their mistakes. Andy had actually not gone to a boarding school. He was at his aunt’s house and going to school from there. As Amy was in a different branch of the school, she never got to know about this. This was done to teach the siblings a lesson, which they never forgot.
