一、阅读单选(3题)(本大题共1小题)
In modern society, the pursuit of weight loss has become a widely accepted trend. Many people, especially the younger generation, are eager to get rid of extra pounds to achieve what they consider a more attractive appearance or a healthier body.
Proper weight loss can indeed bring certain benefits. Obesity (肥胖) is a growing health concern, which can lead to various health problems such as heart disease and certain types of cancer: Aècording to the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide. Therefore, reducing weight is essential to improve overall health and reduce the risk of these life-threatening diseases.
However, the attraction to weight loss has also given rise to some negative results. With public figures speaking about new diets that have helped them become slim in advertisement, more and more people are turning to dieting. Some shops begin to sell diet products such as diet milkshakes, snack bars and even diet pills.
Most of these popular diets work by cutting down on a certain nutrient (营养物) from your food intake, such as carbohydrates (碳水化合物), which means the body must use its fat reserves for energy. In fact, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals all play an important role in staying healthy, which is why they all should be included in your meals. If cutting a particular food group out of your diet, you are starving your body of a nutrient that it needs, which could leave you feeling weak, tired or even bad-tempered. You may even experience nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, and even psychological (心理的) disorders like anorexia nervosa.
While weight loss can be a worthy goal if done in a healthy and sustainable way, we should be cautious of the potential dangers. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and a positive attitude towards our body image are the keys to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. We should not sacrifice our well-being for the sake of conforming to a certain beauty standard. Instead, we should focus on overall health and happiness.

A.highlight the need to lose weight for the obese people
B.predict many people will die of life-threatening diseases

D.introduce the risks brought by heart disease and certain cancer
2.As for weight loss, the author thinks ______.
A.obesity is a major factor leading to psychological disorders
B.cutting down carbohydrates is a good way for most people
C.public figures play an important role in advertising diet pills
D.a balanced diet is one key to achieving a healthy weight
3.Which would be the best title for this article
A.Weight Loss: Beyond Appearance to True Health
B.Weight Loss: From Obesity to Slim
C.Weight Loss out of Diet Products
D.Weight Loss in a Trendy World
二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共3小题)
A Dutch museum has recovered an artwork that looks like two empty beer cans after a staff member accidentally threw it in the rubbish bin.
The work, entitled All the Good Times We Spent Together by the French artist Alexandre Lavet, appears on first glance to be two abandoned and dented (瘪的) beer tins. However, a closer look shows they are carefully hand-painted and required a lot of time and effort to create. Their artistic value was lost on a mechanic, who saw them displayed in a lift and threw them in the bin. The curator (馆长) Elisah van den Bergh returned from a short break and noticed the cans had disappeared. She recovered them from a bin bag just as they were about to be thrown out.
Froukje Budding, of the LAM museum in Lisse, western Netherlands, said artworks were often left in unusual places—hence the display in a lift. “We try to surprise visitors for all the time,” she said. “We have now put the work in a more traditional place on a plinth (底座) so it can rest after its adventure.” She stressed there were no hard feelings towards the mechanic, who had just started at the museum, stating that he was simply performing his duties.
Sietske van Zanten, the museum’s director, emphasized the museum’s mission to encourage visitors to see everyday objects in a new light. “By displaying artworks in unexpected places, we enhance this experience and keep visitors on their toes,” he added.
Budding also noted the cans were unlikely to stay on their traditional plinth for long and that they needed to think hard about a careful place to put them next.
4.Why did the mechanic throw the artwork in the rubbish bin
A.Because it stood in the way. B.Because it took much space.
C.Because it looked like real trash. D.Because it looked strange in the lift.
5.What was Budding’s attitude toward the mechanic’s behavior
A.Understanding. B.Concerned.
C.Critical. D.Unforgiving.
6.What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 4 mean
A.Make visitors ready for surprises. B.Remind visitors of dangers.
C.Warn visitors not to litter. D.Show visitors around the museum.
7.What might happen to the artwork in the future
A.It will be kept in a safe. B.It will be put in a selected place.
C.It will be sent back to the lift. D.It will be placed in a traditional setting.
Just off the Florida Keys lies the world’s third-largest coral reef (珊瑚礁), which was once an energetic habitat for millions of plants and animals. But an outbreak of stony coral tissue loss disease threatens to destroy 20 of the 45 species found there, including larger reef-building corals.
“This disease that is burning through the Florida Keys is an unbelievable event that is happening,” said Andrew Stamper, conservation science manager at Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment. “It’s like a wildfire.” Stamper said that would endanger Florida’s fishing industry and food supply. “Unfortunately, we do not know exactly what is causing this,” he said.
In order to save the reef, scientists have moved some species hundreds of miles away to a lab in Orlando. Scientists work to simulate breeding (繁殖) conditions in the lab. The conditions are exactly the same as the living conditions of the coral. The work needs a lot of care, effort and attention to detail. LED lights exactly copy the sun and moon cycles. Volunteers feed the coral in water treated to mimic its real habitat.
“This essentially is a gene bank,” said Jim Kinsler, leader of SeaWorld Orlando. “We’re trying to protect the genetics of these corals so that their offspring(后代)can eventually be returned back to the Florida reef area.”
The task of relocating the lab-grown coral to the sea is also a detailed task. Kinsler, who is part of a team of private and public partners operating the Florida Coral Rescue Center, said, “It’s the first time that many of them have been involved in rescuing an entire ecosystem,”
“We think the real challenge is just growing them out to a size, so we can test them in those waters, test their disease resistance (抵抗力), and then breed the successful corals by the hundreds of thousands literally,” said Andrew Walker, president of the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida.
8.What do we know about the Florida Keys
A.It owns the world’s largest coral reef.
B.A disease broke out among people there.
C.The world’s third-largest coral reef is close to it.
D.It is now the habitat of millions of plants and animals.
9.What do Andrew Stamper’s words mean
A.The root of the disease is unclear.
B.A wildfire broke out in the Florida Keys.
C.The disease will spread across the Earth.
D.The disease has caused a great loss to the locals.
10.What does the underlined word “simulate” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Copy. B.Contrast. C.Escape. D.Feature.
11.What is the purpose of the research according to Andrew Walker
A.To restore the coral in the lab.
B.To sell the coral in the normal size.
C.To make more people involved in protecting the ecosystem.
D.To produce masses of disease-resistant coral back to the sea.
In a recent study, Keren Papier at the University of Oxford and her colleagues used 16 years of data on more than 540,000 women in the UK. The researchers found that every additional 300 milligrams of calcium(钙) per day was associated with a 17 per cent reduction in risk. “This is the most comprehensive single study ever conducted into the relationship between diet and colorectal cancer(结直肠癌), and it highlights the potential protective role of dairy products, largely due to calcium, in the development of colorectal cancer,” says Papier.
Papier’s study agrees with another recent paper that followed more than 470,000 adults for over 20 years. This similarly found an association between reduced colorectal cancer risk and higher calcium consumption.
A third study, led by Shuji Ogino in Boston, adds to the evidence, but turns the spotlight away from calcium. His team followed some 87,000 women for 40 years and 45,000 men for 30 years. At least two servings of plain yogurt a week, which contained Bifidobacterium bacteria(双歧杆菌), was linked to a 20 per cent lower rate of colorectal cancer.
When it comes to calcium pills, a 2018 report for Cancer Research suggests that they decrease the risk of colorectal cancer, but another study found that they may increase the risk of diseases that may lead to the condition. Given the widespread use of these pills, further research is needed, says Papier. The benefits of Bifidobacterium bacteria are also unknown, says Ogino.
To him, these studies illustrate the complex connection between our diet and cancer risk, with there being no shortcut to health. “If people try to go to a supermarket and buy more plain yogurt, then that’s good, but if they just stop in a day or two, there is no effect.”
People should try to follow all the cancer prevention advice such as being active and not smoking, and “not focus on the potential benefits of one food or one nutrient,” says Mathers, a health expert.
12.What did Keren Papier’s study find
A.Calcium from dairy products can cure cancer.
B.More calcium leads to better colorectal cancer fighting.
C.The daily consumption of 300 mg of calcium is necessary.
D.Extra calcium consumption is linked to a lower colorectal cancer risk.
13.What is the key difference between Papier’s and Ogino’s studies
A.Study focus. B.Study duration.
C.Research method. D.Participants’ gender.
14.What is the best way to prevent cancer according to Mathers
A.Follow experts’ guidelines. B.Focus on food and nutrient.
C.Take all factors into account. D.Emphasize the involvement in sports.
15.What would be the best title for this passage
A.Yogurt vs Calcium: Which One Works Better
B.Calcium Pills: Their Role in Cancer Prevention
C.Colorectal Cancer Risk: How to Reduce It Effectively
D.Diet Choices: Their Impact on Colorectal Cancer Prevention
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
Will there be an outbreak of bird flu that threatens human Many experts disagree on when or whether a human pandemic (流行病) will occur, but do say there is a chance that the virus could mutate (变异), leading to widespread infection. 16 Here’s what you need to know to help keep yourself healthy.
Stock up on food, water and household supplies. If there is a bird flu pandemic, you’ll want to minimize your chance of catching it by staying indoors; you might even be required to stay home if the government asks that people remain in quarantine (隔离期). You’d better stock up today on at least two weeks’ essentials such as water, food, emergency and medical supplies. 17
Have an outbreak plan. It may feel odd or uncomfortable to talk to family members and loved ones about the worst case-a pandemic case. But when that case strikes, you’ll all be much better off if you have a plan decided on and ready. 18 Figure out how you would care for them and what your first response and responsibilities would be; this is an especially important conversation to have with those in need of special care.
19 Things like keeping a balanced diet, exercising regularly and getting enough rest can help keep you healthy in an outbreak and also keep you from catching the common cold. Particularly in a flu outbreak situation, it will be important to wash our hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Be diligent about covering coughs and sneezes with tissues.
Moreover, know your essential health information such as blood type, allergies, and past or current medical conditions. Make a list of that essential information for all the members of your family. 20 And do make sure everyone in your household knows where to find it.
【选项】
A.Pick up the good habits.
B.Work out regularly to stay slim.
C.It is wise to keep it somewhere safe and visible.
D.Talk with your friends and family about how you’d respond to an epidemic.
E.It’s important to ask yourself these questions before a pandemie occurs.
F.That will help you get through an extended time at home if there is an outbreak.
G.In that case, the best thing you can do right now is to prepare for that possibility.

When I was in seventh grade,my parents paid a tutor(家庭教师)forty dollars a week for her coming to my house and helping me with math.It ended up raising my marks from 50 to 55.
I had to admit it was mainly my fault.Maybe I should have concentrated on my math from the beginning. But studying math was a painful and tough thing. My teachers and friends would frequently ask the question after tests,“How’s your math this time?” Gradually I became extremely afraid of math.My fear of math got worse in ninth grade.Every report card I received from my new math teacher Ms Robbins had the comment to encourage me,“I’m glad to do what I can to help you.” But I couldn’t tell her the real reason why I didn’t ask for help—I didn’t want to be considered stupid.Every question I had was,in my opinion at that time, something that the whole class had understood but me.So I ended up not caring about anything related to math, without working hard on math at all.But in my bottom of my heart, there was still a worry that I would not pass the math exam or even fail to be admitted to high school.
Finally, the day came when my classmates and I took the final test that would lead to our graduation from middle school and stepping into high school.Days after the exam,on a rainy summer morning.Ms Robbins called me to her office.

13.细节理解题。根据第一段的“‘This is the most comprehensive single study ever conducted into the relationship between diet and colorectal cancer(结直肠癌), and it highlights the potential protective role of dairy products, largely due to calcium, in the development of colorectal cancer,’ says Papier.(帕皮尔说:“这是有史以来对饮食与结直肠癌癌症之间关系进行的最全面的单一研究,它强调了乳制品在结直肠癌癌症发展中的潜在保护作用,主要是由于钙。”)” 以及第三段“A third study, led by Shuji Ogino in Boston, adds to the evidence, but turns the spotlight away from calcium. His team followed some 87,000 women for 40 years and 45,000 men for 30 years. At least two servings of plain yogurt a week, which contained Bifidobacterium bacteria(双歧杆菌), was linked to a 20 per cent lower rate of colorectal cancer.(由波士顿的Shuji Ogino领导的第三项研究增加了证据,但将焦点从钙转移开。他的团队追踪了大约87000名女性40年,45000名男性30年。每周至少吃两份含有双歧杆菌的普通酸奶,与结直肠癌癌症发病率降低20%有关。)” 可知,帕皮尔的研究重点是钙与结直肠癌的关系,而Shuji Ogino的研究重点是酸奶中的双歧杆菌与结直肠癌的关系,二者的研究重点不同。故选A。
14.细节理解题。根据最后一段“People should try to follow all the cancer prevention advice such as being active and not smoking, and ‘not focus on the potential benefits of one food or one nutrient,’ says Mathers, a health expert.(健康专家Mathers说,人们应该尽量遵循所有癌症预防建议,比如积极活动,不要吸烟,“不要关注一种食物或一种营养素的潜在益处。”)”
