In Switzerland, a variety of unique festivals take place throughout the year, each offering a distinct cultural experience and unforgettable moments for locals and visitors alike. The following are three typical festivals.

The Fête des Vignerons takes place every 20 years in Vevey, which is full of activities, history and centuries-old traditions and was the first Swiss intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) included into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. The latest festival was held from 18 July to 11 August 2019.
Fête de la Musique, Geneva
Fête de la Musique runs annually, taking over the streets of Lausanne every summer. Over 50 places show off musicians from across the globe, celebrating a range of music. It is worth noting that most roads are blocked during the festival, and it is best to travel by public transport. The Geneva Fête de la Musique this year was held from 22—27 June.

I was walking home when a well-dressed man politely stopped me. “Could you tell me which way to Bloor and...” He struggled to get the next word out with a pained look, but I knew better than to finish his sentence for him. “... Bathurst ” he said after several seconds of trying. When I answered, he told me that he didn’t actually need to know. He was practising stuttering(口吃) openly, as he explained, hoping to become more confident doing so around strangers.
“Are you doing that because it’s National Stuttering Awareness Day ” I asked with excitement, eager to connect with other stutterers. When he asked how I knew that, I said I grew up with a stutter. He nodded, asking hopefully: “So your stutter has magically disappeared ” I paused. I understood why he assumed this — I sounded quite articulate. But even as we spoke, my stutter had influenced my speech, and that’s why I’d misnamed International as National to avoid the tricky front sound that I continue to struggle with.
Though the severity of my stutter has decreased with age, it has shaped my identity and affected my life tremendously, the way that I speak, interact and move around in the world. Some define stutter as a disability because it is as constant and out of control as blindness or other disabilities. There’s no pill, no surgery, no way to get rid of it, no “recovering” from it. But there is recovering from the shame and self-hatred that result from it. The treatment for stutter shouldn’t be centered around removing a person’s stutter, but rather on reducing one’s negative thoughts and behaviors surrounding it.
As for me, I’d say that my stutter has not “magically disappeared” because I’ve simply found ways to conceal it. But I have a better therapy now — I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak. Thinking about this, I wanted to speak from the bottom of my heart to the man, who looked at me hopefully: “__________”
4.What can we learn about the decent man
A.He had lost his way and asked about the direction.
B.He wanted to be braver when talking to unfamiliar people.
C.He was interrupted by the author who finished his sentence.
D.He was practising giving speeches fluently on open occasions.
5.Which is closest in meaning to “articulate” in paragraph 2
A.Fluent. B.Sensible. C.Different. D.Relaxed.
6.Which of the following can best describe the author
A.Adaptable and optimistic. B.Outgoing and ambitious.
C.Humorous and reflective. D.Educated and responsible.
7.What might the author say in the last paragraph
A.Yes. I have got rid of stutter with a more positive attitude.
B.No. There is no recovering from stutter and I have just hidden it.
C.Yes. As I grow older, I rarely stutter now and people don't know I stuttered.
D.No. I will always live with stutter because it is a part of me which I gladly accept.
Harvest Celebrations
People around the world pick, or harvest food that grows. Then they have a holiday. Let's read about some harvest celebrations!
Every February, the people of Mendoza, Argentina, harvest their grapes. Then they celebrate for a month! There are parades (游行), shows, and fireworks. They always choose a Harvest Queen, too. Chanthaburi, a town in Thailand, is famous for its tasty fruit. People celebrate the fruit at harvest time in May. The Fruit Fair begins with a parade of floats (游行彩车) made from thousands of fruits and vegetables.
The Argungu Fishing Festival began in 1934 in Nigeria, a country in Africa. It's a four-day festival held at the end of February to celebrate the end of all farming activities. On the last day there's a fishing contest. People have one hour to catch the largest fish. But it's not that easy. They can only use traditional fishing tools. But many use only their hands to catch the fish. France's famous Menton Lemon Festival starts in February. There are big parades with floats decorated with lemons and oranges. More than 200, 000 people from around the world come to Menton for this festival.

On October 27, 2020, my friend and I boarded the first flight of our journey from Vancouver Island, to Peru, South America.
Twenty-four hours and four airports later we landed in Cusco, Peru, a city of one million ing from Vancouver Island with only 100 feet above sea level, we knew that we were now at a much higher altitude(海拔) — over 11,000 feet — and needed time to get used to the scarcer oxygen(缺氧) levels! We followed the advice of other travellers and the locals: drink lots of coca leaf tea and rest for a couple of hours before any activity.
We were soon hiking through the ruins(遗迹) and surrounding ancient castles of Cusco. Leaving Cusco the next day, we stopped at the Moray Ruins, which were used for farming by the Incas. Their size and unique design should be considered a lesson in historical engineering skills. This Inca site is one of the least known tourist destinations, but it’s one of the most interesting places to visit.
Arriving in the beautiful Sacred Valley, we stayed at Willka T’ika for the next week. This place is wonderful. We enjoyed delicious vegetarian meals, all made with local produce by loving Quechua people.
You can’t go to Peru without visiting historic Machu Picchu. The “road” up to the ruins is made up of an endless series of switchbacks(急转弯), resulting in cold sweats. It was worth the ride, though.
It was too soon before we were leaving Peru. We learned the unique history of Inca, Quechua culture, and the farming methods still widely practiced. The best thing we took away returning home to Vancouver Island was how simple and caring the people are and how deeply they love the earth and everyone they meet.
12.Why did the author drink lots of coca leaf tea
A.To have a good rest. B.To follow the local custom.
C.To feel better at a greater height. D.To avoid getting thirsty on the way.
13.What does the author think of the Moray Ruins
A.They’re known to most travel lovers. B.They’re not as interesting as expected.
C.They’re no longer suitable for farming. D.They’re an example of creative engineering.
14.Which can best describe the author’s trip to Machu Picchu
A.Safe but tiring. B.Risky but worthwhile.
C.Pleasant and interesting. D.Comfortable and wonderful.
15.How does the author’s trip to Peru influence him
A.It encourages him to be more caring.
B.It helps him understand his own culture.
C.It teaches him to accept all the differences.
D.It allows him to experience modern farming.
A few years ago, the Saving Sloths team received a phone call.
“We found a baby sloth (树懒),” they said.
We immediately grabbed our emergency box and went to meet this baby sloth, which I named “Sarita”. 16 Up in a big Cecropia tree, they had seen three adult sloths fighting in the morning. At the base of the tree, Sarita was crying. They waited for a while but nobody came for the baby so they picked her up and called us.
When we arrived there were three sloths resting high in the tree. We picked Sarita out of her blanket gently and let her cry for her mother. 17 A sloth turned her head every time Sarita called, steadily moving down the tree.
Standing at the base of the tree, I held the baby as high as I could. As Mom reached the lowest trunk, she decided to move to a tiny tree beside the Ceropia. As if the baby read her mind, 18 The small tree suddenly bent under the mom’s weight. Everybody held their breath as the baby was now out of my reach, hanging off the tree with only one hand. Although relatively low, it would still have been more than a 3-meter fall. 19 And with a smooth movement, Mom picked her up and hugged her.
20 There are not many cases where we can locate the mom of a baby that has fallen down and reunite them. The most important people in this story are without a doubt the owners of the land, for being so attentive to the wildlife that lives on their property and for contacting us so soon.
A.But to our relief, Sarita held on.
B.Soon there was movement up in the tree.
C.Sarita began climbing towards the lowest trunk.
D.This is the best outcome we could have hoped for.
E.Sarita also reached for this small tree with her little arm.
F.The property owners showed us where they had found her.
G.The next morning we went back for a check on Sarita.

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was ten minutes’ walk from my home. So I would rush back home for lunch.
One lunchtime when I was in the fourth grade will always be kept in my mind. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play. However, no matter how smoothly I read lines at home, the moment I stepped onstage, every word escaped me. Finally, my teacher took me aside, explaining in a kind voice, “I had written the narrator’s (旁白) part in the play. Are you willing to change roles ” I had to hold back tears as I nodded, watching helplessly my part go to another girl.
I felt too ashamed to tell my mother what happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed I was different, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day with the rose vine turning green. Under the huge tree, we could see bunches of yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass as if a painter had touched our landscape with dabs of gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to clear all the weeds (草),” she said, pulling it out by its roots. “You see, we’ll have only beautiful roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions.” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it ” She asked thoughtfully. I gave her an approving nod, secretly pleased that the dandelions could survive my mom’s wedding plan. “And that is true of people too,” she continued. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I couldn’t help breaking into tears.
注意:

4.B
5.A
6.A
7.D
根据文章第一段的“He was practising stuttering openly, as he explained, hoping to become more confident doing so around strangers.(他解释说,他正在公开练习口吃,希望在陌生人面前变得更加自信。)”
根据画线词前文“He nodded, asking hopefully: ‘So your stutter has magically disappeared ’(他点点头,满怀希望地问:“这么说,你的口吃神奇地消失了?”)” 故选A项。
根据文章末尾段的“But I have a better therapy now — I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak.(但我现在有了更好的治疗方法——我会和它一起成长,一种与我说话的方式密不可分的身份。)”可知,作者已经接受自己口吃这一事实;同时文章第三段的“But there is recovering from the shame and self-hatred that result from it. The treatment for stutter shouldn’t be centered around removing a person’s stutter, but rather on reducing one’s negative thoughts and behaviors surrounding it.(但是,人们正在从由此产生的羞愧和自我憎恨中恢复过来。口吃的治疗不应该以消除一个人的口吃为中心,而应该减少一个人围绕口吃的负面想法和行为。)”可推知,作者已经不再因为口吃而消极,羞耻和自我憎恨了,有了积极乐观的态度。由此推知,作者是一个适应力强,乐观派的人。故选A项。
根据前文内容“As for me, I’d say that my stutter has not ‘magically disappeared’ because I’ve simply found ways to conceal it. But I have a better therapy now — I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak.(至于我,我想说我的口吃并没有“神奇地消失”,因为我只是找到了隐藏它的方法。但我现在有了更好的治疗方法——我会和它一起成长,一种与我说话方式密不可分的身份。)”可知,作者已经接受了“口吃”这一身份特征,并且自己在表达方面已经“隐藏”了这一特征,可以带着这个特征正常自信地生活。由此推知,作者想要告诉这个人:“不。我将永远带着口吃生活,因为这是我欣然接受的一部分。”故选D项。

40.【答案】I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly. “You will be a beautiful narrator,” she encouraged, “The narrator’s part is as important as the part of a princess.” Wearing a shining smile, my beloved mother comforted me as always she did. Her words reminded me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. Over the next weeks, with her constant encouragement, I learned to take pride in the role. Lunchtimes were spent reading over my lines painstakingly and talking about what I would wear.
Finally came the big day. Waiting backstage, I suddenly felt nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. Looking at it, I knew my mother was out there for me, which calmed me down and brought me power, My performance turned out to be a great success. And I firmly believed the princess couldn’t have won such thunderous applause without my beautiful narration. Since then, the dandelion, a gift from my mother, has always inspired me to be a confident girl.
