二、阅读单选(4题)(本大题共3小题)
The researchers found that more than half of the decline in the Colorado River’s flow is connected to increasing temperatures, and as warming continues, they say the risk of “severe water shortages” for the millions that rely on it is expected to grow.
The study also examined the impact that actions to control pollution of heat-trapping gases could have on the river’s water supply. Some decrease in the flow is likely no matter what actions are taken, but without any cuts to emissions, the river’s discharge(流量) could shrink by between 19% and 31% by the middle of this century.
The Colorado River starts high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. On its route, this river supplies major cities like Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Diego, as well as farms in the US and Mexico that grow the vegetables that feed, millions around the world. It supports around $1 trillion of economic activity each year.
Global warming is reducing the snowpack that feeds the river. As temperatures increase, snow cover in the region is declining, meaning less energy from the sun is reflected back into space and more warms the ground as heat. The river’s flow has also been cut down by a severe drought during the last two decades, leaving its two main reservoirs—Lake Powell and Lake Mead—barely half full.
Udall, a senior climate scientist at Colorado State University, says these new findings show that the only way to save the river is by addressing the root cause of the problem: climate change. “The science is crystal clear we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions immediately,” he says. “We now have the technologies, the policies and favorable economics to accomplish greenhouse gas reductions. What we lack is the will.”
4.With cutting emissions, the river flow would reduce by ______.
A.less than 19% B.about 30%
C.over 19% D.between 19% and 31%
5.What does the author intend to tell us about the Colorado River in paragraph 3
A.It is a long river. B.It is very important.
C.It makes adequate electricity. D.It flows through more than two countries.
6.Which is one of the effects of the reduction of the snow cover
A.The weather becomes drier. B.The river gets more water.
C.The ground gets more heat. D.Droughts break out frequently.
7.What prevents people reducing greenhouse gas emissions according to Udall
A.Lack of will. B.Lack of cooperation.
C.Backward economy. D.Technology unavoidable.
“Join our exciting wildlife watching tours and experience the holiday of a lifetime!” Eco-wildlife tours like this are becoming more and more popular with tourists. The opportunity to see whales and dolphins swimming in their natural habitat is so much better than seeing these great mammals in zoos and aquariums. As your boat edges out into the blue water, a group of dolphins come to greet you and swim around the boat, jumping playfully around you. In some places, tour companies even encourage tourists to go swimming with the dolphins. These smart mammals seem to enjoy our company and interact(互动) with us. But is it possible that this kind of human activity putting their survival at risk
A recent study has shown that the behavior of whales and dolphins changes greatly when they are close to boats. Interpreting(诠释) the boats as a possible danger, they start to breathe more quickly. The boats drive them away from the places where they feed and interrupt(打扰) their routine of resting and taking care of their young. All of these factors could have a very negative effect on their general health. Another factor that should be taken into account is the effect of human attention on the animals. As they become more used to interacting with humans, they become less afraid of them. There have been several cases of tour boats running into dolphins or whales and causing their deaths. As dolphins live within close communities, events like these cause a lot of stress.
Perhaps the best way to protect these animals is to reduce our interaction with them. We could do by keeping a minimum distance between the animals and the boats, and by limiting the number of boats out on the water at one time. Most importantly, instead of interrupting these animals’ routines(日常生活), we should try to adapt to them. In this way, we could learn to stay in harmony with these wild animals and ensure our continued co-existence on the planet that we shall share.
8.Why are Eco wildlife tours increasingly popular
A.Wild animals really enjoy our company.
B.Tourists can watch wild animals closely.
C.Visitors can play with wild animals easily.
D.Tour companies Advertised them too much.
9.What’s the author’s attitude towards Eco-wildlife tours
A.Indifferent. B.Supportive. C.Critical. D.Concerned.
10.What can we learn from the recent study
A.The visiting boats cause great terror for whales and dolphins.
B.Boats separate young whales and dolphins from their parents.
C.Human’s attention is of great benefit to whales and dolphins.
D.Getting too close to wild animals may bring trouble to them.
11.How to stay in harmony with wild animals according to the text
A.By avoiding using our boats. B.By interacting less with them.
C.By changing our daily routines. D.By visiting their habitats regularly.
William Osler, a doctor, once said, “The person who takes medicine must recover twice, once from the disease and once from the medicine.” It tells us medicine may have some side effects. Therefore, many people in the west are turning to other treatments to replace some medicine and to avoid its side effects. Acupuncture which is popular among them is one of these treatments.
What is acupuncture It is based on the idea that energy flows through the human body along 12 lines or meridians (经络). These meridians end up at organs in the body, and illness is the result of blockage (堵塞) of the energy flow to these organs. To remove the block age, an acupuncturist inserts very fine needles into the body at points along the meridians. This stimulates the flow of energy, and restores the patient’s health, thus making the people re-cover from many kinds of diseases.
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese treatment, which has been practiced for around 3,000 years. It is used to treat a wide range of diseases, such as headaches, dental pain, back pain, high blood pressure, stress, depression, and anxiety. It also gains great popularity among Chinese people due to its effectiveness.
Since acupuncture is known to be effective against pain, it is not surprising that many people in foreign countries have experimented with it. Martina Hingis, who was a famous tennis player, had a wrist injury cured through acupuncture. NBA legend Kobe Bryant also used it on his leg. It has been used widely in the German football league to help the football players, including the national team. Believe it or not, the Queen of England was also interested in it.
If you do decide to visit an acupuncturist, it is important that you should check they are qualified and registered to practice, for some people are allergic to it while they are being treated, although this is very uncommon.
12.What can we learn according to the passage
A.Medicine has little side effects.
B.Acupuncture was originally used in the west.
C.Acupuncture can treat physical as well as mental diseases.
D.The person who takes medicine recovers twice from the disease.
13.How does paragraph 4 develop
A.By making a comparison. B.By giving a definition.
C.By taking examples. D.By listing numbers.
14.What is the author’s attitude towards acupuncture
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Skeptical. D.Indifferent.
15.Which is the best title of this passage

Liza’s curiosity got the better of her, and she eagerly tore open the package. Inside was a beautiful dress. But Liza’s excitement faded quickly as she realized it wasn’t the designer dress she had dreamed of.
“I’m not wearing this!” she shouted, her disappointment turning into anger. She didn’t consider how hurtful her words might be to her grandmother. Her mother tried to reassure her. “Well, dear, I think you will look beautiful in this dress,” she said.
“No! Are you trying to save money on me! Prom only happens once in a lifetime! I’m not wearing this!” Liza shouted, tears of anger welling up in her eyes.

【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了2024年巴黎奥运会的新会徽,这个新会徽的设计融合了金牌、奥运圣火和玛丽安的形象,体现了奥运会的价值观、历史和法国特色;
【解析】36.考查时态。句意:在别开生面的启动仪式后,新会徽被揭晓,启动仪式见证了超过700名跑步者沿着巴黎和圣塞纳-德尼斯市中心的不同路线奔跑,形成了新的2024年巴黎奥运会会徽的轮廓。see(目睹,见证)是定语从句中谓语动词,与主语which(即先行词launch ceremony)之间是主动关系,讲述过去的事情应使用一般过去时态。综上,谓语应用一般过去时的主动语态。故填saw;
37. 考查名词。句意:新设计融合了金牌、奥运圣火和玛丽安的形象,将价值观、历史和法国特色融为一体,这将使奥运会变得真正特别。提示词作表语,结合冠词a可知,用单数名词combination,表示“结合体”。故填combination;
38.考查介词。句意:会徽采用了最美丽奖牌的形状和颜色,同时也提醒人们,体育的核心价值在于追求卓越。compete for表示“为……竞争”,为固定搭配,此处指“追求卓越”。故填for;
39. 考查非谓语动词。句意:2024年巴黎奥运会在组织奥运会时所采取的每一步都体现了同样的承诺,这样它就能履行其举办一场与众不同的、接地气的、可持续的和包容性的奥运会的承诺。“ (stage) a different, grounded, (sustain) and inclusive Games”修饰名词promises,作后置定语,stage(主办,举行)是非谓语动词,名词promise后常用不定式作后置定语;promise to do“做某事的承诺”。故填to stage;
40.考查形容词。句意:2024年巴黎奥运会在组织奥运会时所采取的每一步都体现了同样的承诺,这样它就能履行其举办一场与众不同的、接地气的、可持续的和包容性的奥运会的承诺。提示词修饰名词Games,作定语,与形容词different、grounded和inclusive是并列关系,也用形容词sustainable,表示“可持续的”。故填sustainable;
41. 考查非谓语动词。句意:奥运圣火和残奥圣火反映了奥运会的独特能量,将人们聚集在一起。“(bring) people together”作伴随状语,bring...together(使……团结起来)是非谓语动词,与其逻辑主语The Olympic and Paralympic flames之间是主动关系,用现在分词bringing表示主动。故填bringing;
42.考查宾语从句。句意:奥运会将有助于改善目前缺乏基础设施的居民的生活。分析句子可知,这里考查宾语从句,从句中缺主语,由句意可知,这里应表示“……的东西”,所以应用连接代词what。故填what;
43. 考查代词。句意:巴黎2024年奥运会会徽以其女性特质向这位举世闻名的法国国家象征的女性表示敬意,她是法国人日常生活中无处不在的熟悉人物。提示词作定语,用形容词性物主代词its,表示“它的”。故填its;
44. 考查冠词。句意:巴黎2024年奥运会会徽以其女性特质向这位举世闻名的法国国家象征的女性表示敬意,她是法国人日常生活中无处不在的一个熟悉人物。可数名词figure在句中表示“一个人物”,泛指,familiar发音以辅音音素开头,用不定冠词a修饰。故填a;
故填where。

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m writing to share my puzzles about my ideal major.
Like many of my peers, I’m unsure about which major really suits me and how to make a practical career plan. I would appreciate it if you can introduce major options, like new majors or the ones to disappear. Moreover, it would be great for us to have experts in various fields who are willing to give us specific lectures. Face-to-face talks with them would be better.
Looking forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Liza headed to the school exit and called her mother, crying uncontrollably. Soon her mother arrived at the school and gave her the package Pam had left for her. “Your grandmother left this for you, just in case,” her mother said gently. Liza’s tears slowed as she opened the package. Inside was the dress Pam had made, the one she had rejected so harshly. She smiled through her tears, feeling a wave of gratitude. “Grandma always thought of every possibility. It seems that she has saved me this time,” she said. Liza took the dress and went to the restroom to get changed.
Returning to the hall in her grandmother’s dress, Liza felt a mix of nervousness and hope. As she stepped inside, the room fell silent for a moment. Everyone turned to look at her, their eyes widening in surprise. “Wow, Liza, where did you get that dress ” Mary exclaimed. “It’s beautiful!” another classmate added. Liza’s heart swelled with pride and joy as boys and girls praised her dress. “My grandmother made it for me,” she said proudly. After the prom, Liza couldn’t wait to see her grandmother to apologize and thank her for everything.
