In the mid-1980s, I captained a flight from Newark to Los Angeles, a routine journey that became unforgettable when I encountered the legendary Muhammad Ali in first class. Ali, the former heavyweight champion, was returning home from a Parkinson’s clinic.
Being a boxing enthusiast who had fought in college, I admired Ali very much. I described the famous fight against Floyd Patterson, where Ali’s hands-down, dancing approach astonished me. Approaching Ali, I shared my admiration for his ability to strike Patterson before he could defend himself—a moment frozen in boxing history.
After I spoke, there was an awkward pause. I wasn’t sure if Ali had heard me, and I was debating whether to move on or repeat myself. Then his face lit up with a smile. Apparently, the Parkinson’s had caused a short circuit. The champion was standing up in front of his seat when I spoke. He put his hands up in a boxing position, starting to walk slowly back and forth.
Later, Ali’s assistant invited me to first class. Our conversation shifted from boxing to our mutual love for family. I told him I loved my job but I didn’t enjoy being away from home during holidays or missing birthdays and special events. In fact, on that trip I was missing a camping trip with my son. He inquired more about the camping trip and my son’s name.
As our flight landed in Los Angeles, a knock on the cockpit door revealed Ali’s assistant holding a precious gift—a signed 8-by-11-inch photo of Ali. On it, the champion wrote a heartfelt message to my son: “The time your father spends away from home is the price he pays for service to others.”
During 30 years with the airlines, I had many pleasant experiences and many lessons about the generosity and kindness of people from around the world. But 10 years into retirement, what I remember most are Muhammad Ali’s stories about his love for his family and his kindness toward my son.

D.To tell the author’s son the importance of friendship.
11.What is the best title for the text
A.Life on the move B.Wisdom in seventeen words

It’s the year 2140 and two kids ride their surfboards in the heart of Manhattan, near the point where Sixth Avenue meets Broadway. If you are familiar with this junction, you will know it is far from the US’s current coastline. But in Kim Stanley Robinson’s novel New York 2140,Manhattan is flooded after continuous climate change causes the sea level to rise by 15.25m.
Robinson’s 2017 climate fiction novel belongs to a new kind of novel, which tells “the story of the next century”.It might be helping readers across the world comprehend the situation in which we currently find ourselves.
Climate change is an indescribable crisis to make sense of.Drop some poisonous chemicals in a river now and you will see dead fish within days, but what do you witness when you release(释放) carbon dioxide(CO2)
“This is where fiction comes in:it brings the abstract data closer to home by focusing on the faces and stories in these futures.Show readers a detailed account of a climate-changed future, and they have an easier time imagining it,” says Robinson.“Science fiction gets people thinking in a way that another report on climate change doesn’t,” says Shelley Streeby,a professor of Literature and Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego.“It helps people feel not only about what might be coming, but also about the present. It is about taking certain conditions that exist nowadays, extending them into the future and throwing a bunch of characters into their midst.”
In the search to adopt climate change as a topic, writers are doing what they do best:trying to tell a good story.Sometimes they write with a touch of optimism as they negotiate the current crisis. But even with this optimism, these writers want to make sure the world knows they,at least, are paying attention.
12.What is the function of the first paragraph
A.To give background on a story.
B.To promote the novel New York 2140.
C.To lead to the topic of climate fiction.
D.To show the influence of climate change.
13.How does the author show the climate change crisis is “indescribable”?
A.By inferring. B.By comparing.
C.By analyzing. D.By imagining.
14.What’s Streeby’s attitude toward science fiction
A.Approving. B.Cautious.
C.Negative. D.Doubtful.
15.Which is the best title for the text
A.Climate Crisis:No Longer a Forecast
B.The Future World:More Promising
C.New York 2140:A New Type of Novel
D.Climate Fiction:A Reminder of Climate Change

Our character will form without a guidebook and typically without our knowledge until we are faced with a situation that requires our intentional thought and action. These experiences can be a catalyst(催化剂) to our positive growth and impact who we are and what we become.
My regrettable “mean girl” moment happened when I was in eighth grade. As Halloween approached that year, my classmate Paisley, a shy yet kind girl, asked me if I would play trick-or-treat with her. I jumped at the invitation, until another more active and popular girl, Violet, invited me to join her group later. I was more inclined to join Violet because I thought I’d experience a more cheerful atmosphere. Then I made an unkind decision, lying to Paisley that my parents asked me to stay at home to pass out candy.
I remember that feeling of shame began to form in my heart as I delivered this dishonest excuse. However, that little voice of conscience quickly faded as I began to prepare my costume and plans for the evening. Unexpectedly, while we were playing trick-or-treat, I experienced a moment of pure embarrassment and shame when I found myself face to face with Paisley. The look of hurt and disappointment on her face when she saw me with another group of girls lingered in my mind.
In the days that followed, we didn’t interact at school. I knew I had hurt her deeply. Her absence in my life made me realize just how much her friendship meant to me. The guilt weighed heavily on my conscience as I reflected on my selfish behavior.
One day, as I was sitting alone in the school cafeteria, I saw Paisley walk in. She looked hesitant, as if unsure whether to approach me or not. My heart raced with anticipation and nervousness as I watched her making her way towards my table. I prepared myself for her anger and disappointment.

To my surprise, Paisley smiled warmly and asked if she could join me.

六、应用文写作
【知识点】一般现在时、其他应用文、日常活动
46.【答案】 Dear David,
I’m glad you’re curious about how Chinese students use AI for self-study on weekends. They use AI tools like smart learning apps, language programs with virtual tutors, or study helpers that offer timely assistance. These tools adjust tasks based on personal progress and offer flexible learning time.
While AI improves study effectiveness and focuses on unique needs, depending too much on it may weaken problem-solving skills. Also, long screen hours could harm health.
AI is like a useful friend, but we must use it wisely.
Yours,
Li Hua

范文
To my surprise, Paisley smiled warmly and asked if she could join me. I was taken aback by her forgiveness and willingness to give me another chance. I eagerly invited her to sit, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I explained my regret for my actions on that Halloween night. I apologized and I assured her that I had learned my lesson. She listened intently and forgave me, expressing her own desire for friendship. From that day forward, we formed a bond that was built on trust, honesty, and loyalty.
As I look back on that regrettable “mean girl” moment, I am grateful for the growth it brought into my life. This experience influenced me deeply and served as a turning point in my life. It made me more conscious of my choices and considerate of how those choices might affect others, reminding me that the true measure of a person lies not in their popularity or achievements but in how they treat others. I am grateful to Paisley for forgiving me and for being a constant reminder of the person I strive to be.
