In 2024, China held 671 marathons and road races, showing the growing popularity of these events. The number reflects the nation’s increasing enthusiasm for running and the desire for a healthy lifestyle.
Marathons come in various types. The full marathon, with a distance of 42.195 kilometers, challenges even the most seasoned runners who have taken part for many times, testing their endurance (耐力) and willpower to the limit. It suits highly trained athletes who have spent months, even years, preparing their bodies and minds. The half marathon,21.0975 kilometers long, is easier to reach. It attracts those with a good running base who want a big challenge but not the full marathon distance. It allows runners to experience the excitement of long-distance running without the extreme physical and mental demands. The quarter marathon, with a distance of about 10.54875 kilometers, is suitable for those who have been regularly running and have participated in shorter races.
Road races, on the other hand, are running competitions held on paved roads. They can include shorter distances like 5 kilometers or 10 kilometers. These shorter road races are ideal for beginners or those who want a fun, less intense running experience. They also offer a great way for people to get fit and stay active, as they are less demanding in terms of training and preparation.
These events promote not only physical health but also a spirit of perseverance (毅力) and determination among participants. They bring people together, encouraging a sense of community and teamwork. Runners from all walks of life come together to support and cheer each other on, creating a positive and inspiring atmosphere.

Italian cuisine, deeply linked with ancient cultures like the Greeks, Arabs, and Romans, reflects a rich culinary (烹饪的) heritage. It has been influenced by historical events, regional climates, and cultural exchanges. Many Italians see traditional Italian dishes as the most significant aspect of their national identity. This deep connection to culinary tradition highlights the significant role of food in shaping Italian culture and identity.
During the 14th century and beyond, new ingredients introduced from the newly found world. Tomatoes, potatoes and so on affected Italian cooking a lot. This period saw the improvement of cooking techniques and the introduction of different flavors. Influences from other European countries also began to shape Italian dishes, leading to the rich variety of flavors and styles. These set the foundation for modern Italy’s diverse and fancy culinary landscape. In the 16th century, French cuisine influenced the formal dining scene with complex dishes and culinary techniques that emphasized appearance and presentation. All dishes were laid out at the same time, giving guests the freedom to serve themselves.
Following Italy’s unification (统一), Pellegrino Artusi, noted that there was a need to build a whole Italian identity where culinary tradition played an important role. His Italian cookbook “Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well” increased the cultural unification. Historian Piero Camporesi even said that Artusi’s cookbook contributed more to national unification than some of Italy’s most influential literary works.
The 19th century saw a huge change in dining styles, shifting from French to Russian service. Russian service was characterized by serving one course at a time, each freshly cooked and hot. After a period where both styles co-existed, Russian service was remained to this day. It keeps fine dining experience while reducing over waste.
Italian cuisine, a key part of Italy’s identity, shows how the country absorbs different traditions into its own unique style. Its beauty lies in its diversity, with no single dish shining than others. This food culture, common to all regions and social classes, represents the whole of Italy.

When I was a kid, my summer sport of choice was baseball. Every day I played until it was too dark to see the ball. It was about fun and not fitness. But now that I’m older, and my baseball glove has been officially retired, I need a summertime sport that brings back the playfulness of my youth, but also works to keep my physical and mental skills sharp.
So, I picked up a racket (球拍).
It turns out that racket sports are not only fun, but they may help me live longer. A study published online by the British Journal of Sports Medicine examined the connections between six different types of exercise and the risk of early death. Researchers looked at racket sports, swimming, aerobics, cycling, running, and soccer. Study volunteers included 80,306 people, who ranged in age from 30 to 98. Over the course of the study’s nine years, those who regularly played racket sports were 47% less likely to die of any cause and 56% less likely to die of cardiovascular (心血管的) disease.
“In many ways, racket sports like tennis, badminton, table tennis, and other variations are the ideal exercise for many older adults,” says Daryanani, a physical therapist and personal trainer with Harvard-affiliated Spaulding Outpatient Center. “Besides offering a good cardiovascular workout, they can help with both upper-and lower-body strength at the same time. They can be played at any age, can be adapted to fit most fitness levels, and do not involve a lot of equipment.”
Racket sports offer something other fitness sports do not - lateral (横向的) movement. “Most of our lives are spent moving forward, and that includes our exercise,” says Daryanani. “Racket sports force you to move both back and forth and side to side. This helps improve balance, which can lower your risk of falls.” This kind of activity also exercises your mind. It sharpens your planning and decision-making skills, as you must always be ready for and make your next shot.
Racket sports also have something to do with social relationships. You play against other people - either by yourself or part of a doubles team - while other exercises like running, swimming, and cycling are more individual (个人的) sports. Frequent social contact is important for a long and healthy life. In fact, a 2021 study found that loneliness led to physical and mental illness and an increased risk of death among adults older than age 60.
So, go ahead, pick up a racket and enjoy the benefits of having good health.
12.Why does the author mention his personal experience in Paragraph 1
A.To stress how fun it was to play baseball.
B.To highlight the benefits of playing sports.
C.To show how his sport preferences had changed.
D.To present the reasons for starting racket sports.
13.The study in Paragraph 3 shows ________.
A.doing exercise is popular among adults
B.different types of exercise are connected
C.people choose different sports as they age
D.racket sports may help to prevent early death
14.Paragraph 6 mainly talks about ________.
A.why loneliness is bad for human beings
B.why racket sports are socially good for people
C.the important findings of physical and mental illness
D.the comparison between racket sports and other fitness sports
15.What can we learn about racket sports
A.They benefit people mentally rather than physically.
B.They reduce the risk of falls as lateral movement is involved.
C.They’re better than individual sports because they help improve balance.
D.They’re suitable for young people because whole-body strength is required.
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
Do you love food Whether you’re a foodie or someone who just likes eating, there is so much to choose from. We know that too much of the wrong kind of food can be bad for our health, but for some people having a food allergy means that eating certain things can actually be harmful. Such cases may seem uncommon. 16
An allergy is caused by the immune (免疫的) system fighting substances in the
environment. 17 It means that people have to follow strict dietary restrictions, otherwise their lives may be put at risk. Allergy specialist Dr. Adam Fox says “if you look back over, say, 30 or 40 years… there are much more serious allergic problems around now than there were.” 18 Last year a teenager died after suffering an allergic reaction from eating a piece of bread containing peanuts. This led to a call for better food-labeling laws.
Research has found that this problem is particularly affecting children. 19 Dr. Alexandra Santos from King’s College London says “food allergy now affects about 7% of children in the UK and 9% of those in Australia, for example. Across Europe, 2% of adults have food allergies.”
So what might be the cause Dr. Santos says, the increase in allergies is not simply the effect of society becoming more aware of them and better at diagnosing them. 20 She adds that possible factors are pollution, dietary changes and less exposure to bacteria, which change how our immune systems respond. She points out that it’s very common for migrants who move to another country to develop food allergies in their new location.
A.It seems to be more environmental.
B.A food allergy can affect you at any age.
C.Food allergies can cause life-threatening reactions.
D.Yet in fact, food allergies are affecting more and more of us.
E.More and more of them are having allergic reactions to certain food.
F.A lot of work is being done to try and find a cure, but that’s not easy.
G.We often hear about people having allergies to dairy products or to nuts.

“Mom, can I get this dress for prom(舞会) It’s perfect!” Liza asked. Her mother looked at the price and shook her head. “Liza, that’s expensive. We shouldn’t spend that much on a dress you’ll wear once. Besides, someone has a surprise for you today.”
“A surprise What kind of surprise ” Liza asked. Her mother smiled mysteriously and said, “Just be patient.” After a while, there was a knock on the door. Liza’s grandmother, Pam, entered the house, holding a package wrapped neatly in gift paper.
Liza’s curiosity got the better of her, and she eagerly tore open the package. Inside was a beautiful dress. But Liza’s excitement faded quickly as she realized it wasn’t the designer dress she had dreamed of.
“I’m not wearing this!” she shouted, her disappointment turning into anger. She didn’t consider how hurtful her words might be to her grandmother. Her mother tried to reassure her. “Well, dear, I think you will look beautiful in this dress,” she said.
“No! Are you trying to save money on me! Prom only happens once in a lifetime! I’m not wearing this!” Liza shouted, tears of anger welling up in her eyes.
Finally, her mother decided to give in. Pam quietly accepted Liza’s choice and carefully packed the dress she had made. She didn’t say much, but her disappointment was clear. Liza was too wrapped up in her own feelings to notice the sadness in her grandmother’s eyes.
The evening of the prom finally arrived. Liza danced among her friends, her heart filled with excitement. Suddenly, one of Liza’s friends Mary carelessly poured a glass of red wine on her dress. She smiled through her tears, feeling a wave of gratitude. “Grandma always thought of every possibility. It seems that she has saved me this time,” she said. Liza took the dress and went to the restroom to get changed.
Returning to the hall in her grandmother’s dress, Liza felt a mix of nervousness and hope. As she stepped inside, the room fell silent for a moment. Everyone turned to look at her, their eyes widening in surprise. “Wow, Liza, where did you get that dress ” Mary exclaimed. “It’s beautiful!” another classmate added.
