There’s an inner desire amongst most people to explore our planet. There’s this sense in modern society that somehow we will find a better existence or we’ll find happiness by going on holiday. I think we’ve almost been conditioned to become tourists, to the extent that a lot of people engage in tourism without actually considering why they’re doing so.
There are plenty of people who will go to the same place every year, because they’re comfortable and familiar with it. People are experiencing less and less the places they are at. They might be there in body, but not necessarily in mind, because a lot of people are constantly thinking: “How am I going to present myself to my social media group back home through my posts on Facebook or Instagram ”
But this is just one side of the problem. On the other side, our travel has taken a toll on the environment. It is reported that the carbon emissions from air travel accounted for 2.5% of global emissions in 2019, and this figure may be three times by 2050.
I admit that there has been a considerable increase in people’s awareness about the environment. And some people say that this can eventually lead to a shift in our behavior as tourists. However, I can’t share their optimism. A lot of research has been done into the extent to which tourists are willing to adapt their behavior. And even those people who regularly consume or behave in an environmentally friendly fashion actually temporarily forget their environmental commitments, and behave like normal tourists. They do suffer some kind of eco-guilt, but nevertheless they continue to travel, and they continue to fly.
I’m old enough to remember when tourism was just the summer holiday, and you would look forward to those two weeks a year when you would go on holiday. It was special and meaningful, but nowadays it is so easy to travel. Travel is now seen as a right, not as a privilege. However, to some extent, I hope there will be a significant rise in the cost of travel, or at least in air travel. In my opinion, only in this way can people realize the value of travel experience and really enjoy it. Also, only in this way can many problems arising with the development of tourism be properly solved.
4.What is the problem with most tourists according to the author
A.They don’t care about our planet at all.
B.They post too many photos on social media.
C.They can hardly find the right place to explore.
D.They fail to have a meaningful traveling experience.
5.What does the underlined part “taken a toll on” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Improved. B.Damaged. C.Saved. D.Shaped.
6.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A.Tourists can hardly be affected by environmental awareness.
B.Tourists are unaware of the effect of their behavior.
C.Tourists’ environmental awareness has been increased.
D.Tourists find it hard to travel without harming the environment.
7.Why does the author hope airline tickets will be more expensive
A.To limit the development of tourism. B.To create a sense of equality in society.
C.To help people value their traveling experience. D.To make people less excited about travelling.
The mobile phone might be a great gift, but it is stopping young people communicating with the wider world and doing harm to their mental health. Should the young use mobile phones or not It’s worth deep thinking.
Raleigh International, an adventure programme, has announced that it intends to ban smartphones in order to enable their youthful participants (参与者) to actually get to know each other a bit, instead of spending their evenings under the tent lit by a phone screen.
As people used to say there was a time when the whole point of travel was to come face-to-face with an unfamiliar world. Learning to adapt to that world was “character-building”, and an unfamiliar land was, in a sense, a training ground.
For example, the great twentieth-century explorer Freya Stark was a lone Western woman in far Arab lands without using a GPS and a mobile. Yet through all her years of travelling—and she was someone who travelled even in her 99th year—she learned to measure herself, and she learned to measure those she met.
We live in a time when there are not many people like Freya Stark. For Raleigh International participants, the communal (集体) experience without smartphones is important. A survey during an experiment of its mobile-free policy (政策) found that almost two thirds of them believed their mental health had improved as a result of being without their phones.
Raleigh International said that talking with people face to face leaves good memories on them, because these memories come from responding to the real people and places around them.
Now, going back to the question, it’s clear that with so many smartphones around, we should take advantage of the opportunity for face-to-face communication.
8.What does the underlined word “ban” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Improve the sales of. B.Change the style of.
C.Stop the use of. D.Bring in.
9.Why does the author mention Freya Stark in paragraph 4
A.To support the author’s opinion. B.To show the uselessness of a GPS.
C.To explain the difficulty of living alone. D.To introduce a new topic for discussion.
10.What is the finding of the experiment about the mobile-free policy
A.It places more pressure on people. B.It makes people mentally healthier.
C.It leads to more productive work. D.It makes communication difficult.
11.Which can be the best title for the text
A.Why Do the Young Like Mobile Phones
B.Is It Good for Youth to Use Mobile Phones
C.What Is the Impact of Mobile Phones on Travel
D.How Can One Start Face-to-Face Cooperation
In many parts of the world, the volume of tourists has gone way beyond capacity point. Overtourism, as is known, is now so widespread that many communities are pushing back. In April, activists on Tenerife staged a hunger strike against the building of new tourist projects threatening local water resources. Similarly, Greek communities initiated the “towel movement” resisting the privatization of coastal spaces that displaced local traditional fishing.
When you see so many people protesting so widely, it tells you that the balance has been lost. The idea that most people benefit from tourism is no longer so clear. Symptoms of overtourism range from everyday problems, such as locals being priced out of restaurants, to deeper issues like the corporate takeover of affordable housing, which has caused widespread public anger. “At the most insignificant level, overtourism makes visiting places less pleasant for those visiting,” says Adrian Phillips, managing director of Bradt Travel Guides. “Most of us would prefer to appreciate St Mark’s Square in Venice without having to compete for space. Besides, it can damage the local landscape, put pressure on local facilities, bend and change traditional culture.”
Thailand’s historic city of Chiang Mai has recently charged a $147.5 fine for tourists wearing unsuitable clothing in temple zones, alongside cultural training for guides assisting international visitors, which comes as the city experiences an explosion in tourism, putting pressure on its culture. The Indonesian island of Bali, where by the middle of 2024, international tourism arrivals — 7.75million — surpassed those of all of 2019, is also seeing pushback against the rapid-fire expansion of tourism, with hotlines set up to report inappropriate behaviour by foreigners.
In the long run, the key solution to reducing overtourism is to champion the advantages of the many wonderful spots away from the most heavily-visited tourist sites and encourage people to spread their tourist dollars more widely. Rather than set limits on the number of visitors or fine people for visiting famous landmarks, stakeholders should give full attention to the meaningful experiences, fair economic benefits, and sustainable practices that come with exploring alternatives.
12.Why did people in Tenerife and Greece protest
A.To increase income from tourism. B.To improve local service facilities.
C.To safeguard the interests of locals. D.To prevent environmental destruction.
13.What does Adrian Phillips think of overtourism
A.It can be more than inconvenient.
B.It reflects tourists’ psychological needs.
C.It can be managed through better planning.
D.It is a necessary stage in economic development.
14.What does paragraph 3 focus on
A.Plans to drive tourism growth.
B.Efforts to develop local attractions.
C.Approaches to cultural preservation.
D.Responses to overtourism challenges.
15.Who might the underlined word “stakeholders” in the last paragraph refer to
A.Tourism officers. B.Travel behavior experts.
C.Eco-minded travelers. D.Tourism investment analysts.
As long as we have been on earth, we have used the sea around us. We take from the ocean, and we give to it.
We take fishes from the ocean — millions of kilograms of fish, every year, to feed millions of people. 16 We take minerals from the ocean. One way to get salt is to place seawater in a shallow basin and leave it until it evaporates. 17 Much gold and silver drift dissolved in the waters of the sea, too. But the sea does not give them up by simple evaporation. Other gifts from the sea are pearls, sponges and seaweed. Pearls become jewelry. 18 Seaweed becomes food of many kinds — even candy, and ice cream — as well as medicine. Believe it or not, fresh water is another gift from the sea. We cannot drink ocean water. 19 But ocean water becomes fresh water when the salts are removed. In the future, we will find ourselves depending more and more on fresh water from the sea.
The sea gives us food, fertilizer, minerals, water, and other gifts. What do we give to the sea Garbage. 20 Huge as it is, the ocean cannot hold all the water that we pour into it. Dumping garbage into the ocean is killing off sea life, too. Yet as the world population grows, we may need the sea and its gifts more than ever.
We are finally learning that if we destroy our seas, we might also destroy ourselves. Hopefully, it is not too late.
A.We even use their bones for fertilizer.
B.Some of its contents may cause illness.
C.Natural sponges become cleaning aids.
D.The area of the sea is becoming smaller and smaller.
E.We take a lot from the ocean and give little to the sea.
F.We pollute the ocean when we use it as a garbage dump.
G.Along with salt, other minerals are left after evaporation.

Our character will form without a guidebook and typically without our knowledge until we are faced with a situation that requires our intentional thought and action. These experiences can be a catalyst(催化剂) to our positive growth and impact who we are and what we become.
My regrettable “mean girl” moment happened when I was in eighth grade. As Halloween approached that year, my classmate Paisley, a shy yet kind girl, asked me if I would play trick-or-treat with her. I jumped at the invitation, until another more active and popular girl, Violet, invited me to join her group later. I was more inclined to join Violet because I thought I’d experience a more cheerful atmosphere. Then I made an unkind decision, lying to Paisley that my parents asked me to stay at home to pass out candy.
I remember that feeling of shame began to form in my heart as I delivered this dishonest excuse. However, that little voice of conscience quickly faded as I began to prepare my costume and plans for the evening. Unexpectedly, while we were playing trick-or-treat, I experienced a moment of pure embarrassment and shame when I found myself face to face with Paisley. The look of hurt and disappointment on her face when she saw me with another group of girls lingered in my mind.
In the days that followed, we didn’t interact at school. I knew I had hurt her deeply. Her absence in my life made me realize just how much her friendship meant to me. The guilt weighed heavily on my conscience as I reflected on my selfish behavior.
One day, as I was sitting alone in the school cafeteria, I saw Paisley walk in. She looked hesitant, as if unsure whether to approach me or not. My heart raced with anticipation and nervousness as I watched her making her way towards my table. I prepared myself for her anger and disappointment.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
To my surprise, Paisley smiled warmly and asked if she could join me.

4.D
5.B
6.A
7.C
根据第一段中“I think we’ve almost been conditioned to become tourists, to the extent that a lot of people engage in tourism without actually considering why they’re doing so.(我认为我们几乎已经习惯了成为游客,以至于很多人从事旅游业而没有真正考虑他们为什么这样做。)”和第二段中“There are plenty of people who will go to the same place every year, because they’re comfortable and familiar with it. People are experiencing less and less the places they are at. They might be there in body, but not necessarily in mind(每年都有很多人会去同一个地方,因为他们很舒服,也很熟悉。人们对他们所在的地方的体验越来越少。他们可能在身体上,但不一定在头脑中)”可知,作者提到大多数游客的问题是他们只是身体在旅游目的地,却没有用心去感受,即他们无法获得有意义的旅行体验。故选D项。
5.词句猜测题。画线短语下文“It is reported that the carbon emissions from air travel accounted for 2.5% of global emissions in 2019, and this figure may be three times by 2050.(据报道,2019年航空旅行的碳排放量占全球排放量的2.5%,到2050年,这一数字可能会增加三倍。)” 所以“On the other side, our travel has taken a toll on the environment.(另一方面,我们的旅行taken a toll环境。)”中动词短语taken a toll on的意思是“损害”,与B项“Damaged”同义。故选B项。
根据第四段中“And even those people who regularly consume or behave in an environmentally friendly fashion actually temporarily forget their environmental commitments, and behave like normal tourists. They do suffer some kind of eco-guilt, but nevertheless they continue to travel, and they continue to fly.(即使是那些经常消费或以环保方式行事的人,实际上也会暂时忘记他们的环保承诺,表现得像普通游客一样。他们确实遭受了某种生态罪恶感,但尽管如此,他们还是继续旅行,继续飞行。)”可知,尽管一些游客有环保意识,但很难改变自己的旅游行为,说明游客很难受到环保意识的影响。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“However, to some extent, I hope there will be a significant rise in the cost of travel, or at least in air travel. In my opinion, only in this way can people realize the value of travel experience and really enjoy it.(然而,在某种程度上,我希望旅行成本会大幅上涨,或者至少是航空旅行。在我看来,只有这样,人们才能意识到旅行体验的价值,并真正享受它。)”可知,作者希望机票更贵是因为他希望通过增加旅行成本的方式来帮助人们重视他们的旅行体验。故选C项。
【知识点】文章标题、目的意图、社会、细节理解、词义猜测、说明文、通讯与媒体
【答案】
8.C
9.A
10.B
11.B
根据画线词下文“in order to enable their youthful participants (参与者) to actually get to know each other a bit, instead of spending their evenings under the tent lit by a phone screen. (为了让年轻的参与者能够真正地相互了解一点,而不是在电话屏幕照亮的帐篷下度过他们的夜晚。)”可知,这个项目为了让参与者互相了解,而非沉迷手机,因此项目会要求参与者停止使用手机,由此推断画线单词的含义是“禁用,停止使用”。故选C。
9.推理判断题。根据第三段“As people used to say there was a time when the whole point of travel was to come face-to-face with an unfamiliar world. Learning to adapt to that world was ‘character-building’, and an unfamiliar land was, in a sense, a training ground.(正如人们过去常说的那样,曾经有一段时间,旅行的全部意义就是和一个陌生的世界面对面。学习适应那个世界就是“塑造性格”,而在某种意义上,一个陌生的地方就是一个训练场。)”和第四段“For example, the great twentieth-century explorer Freya Stark was a lone Western woman in far Arab lands without using a GPS and a mobile. Yet through all her years of travelling—and she was someone who travelled even in her 99th year—she learned to measure herself, and she learned to measure those she met. (例如,20世纪伟大的探险家弗雷娅·斯塔克是一个孤独的西方女性,在遥远的阿拉伯土地上,没有使用GPS和手机。然而,在她多年的旅行中——她甚至在99岁时还在旅行——她学会了衡量自己,也学会了衡量她遇到的人。)”可知,通过Freya Stark的例子说明没有手机的时代,旅行能促进自我认知和人际理解,即举例的目的是支持作者的观点。故选A。
根据第五段中“A survey during an experiment of its mobile-free policy (政策) found that almost two thirds of them believed their mental health had improved as a result of being without their phones. (在一项关于无手机政策的实验中,一项调查发现,近三分之二的人认为,由于没有手机,他们的心理健康状况得到了改善。)”可知,无手机政策的实验结果是三分之二参与者因不用手机而心理健康得到改善。故选B。
11.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The mobile phone might be a great gift, but it is stopping young people communicating with the wider world and doing harm to their mental health. Should the young use mobile phones or not It’s worth deep thinking. (手机可能是一个伟大的礼物,但它阻止了年轻人与更广阔的世界交流,并对他们的心理健康造成伤害。年轻人该不该用手机?这是值得深思的。)”可知,全文围绕“青少年是否该用手机”展开,先指出现状,再通过案例和实验论证面对面交流的重要性,选项B“Is It Good for Youth to Use Mobile Phones (年轻人使用手机好吗?) ”呼应首段,可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选B。
【知识点】情节发展、旅游、段落大意、细节理解、词义猜测、说明文
【答案】12.C 13.A 14.D 15.A
根据第一段中“In April, activists on Tenerife staged a hunger strike against the building of new tourist projects threatening local water resources. Similarly, Greek communities initiated the “towel movement” resisting the privatization of coastal spaces that displaced local traditional fishing.(今年4月,特内里费岛的活动人士举行绝食抗议,反对建设威胁当地水资源的新旅游项目。同样,希腊社区发起了‘毛巾运动’,抵制沿海空间的私有化,取代了当地的传统渔业)”可知,新旅游项目会威胁特内里费岛当地水资源,希腊沿海空间的私有化会取代当地的传统渔业,所以这两个地区的人抗议是为了捍卫当地人的利益,故选C。
13.推理判断题。根据第二段中“‘At the most insignificant level, overtourism makes visiting places less pleasant for those visiting,’ says Adrian Phillips, managing director of Bradt Travel Guides. ‘Most of us would prefer to appreciate St Mark’s Square in Venice without having to compete for space. Besides, it can damage the local landscape, put pressure on local facilities, bend and change traditional culture.’(‘在最不起眼的层面上,过度旅游会让游客感到不愉快。’Bradt Travel Guides的总经理Adrian Phillips表示。‘我们大多数人都喜欢不必争夺空间地欣赏威尼斯的圣马可广场。此外,它还会破坏当地景观,给当地设施带来压力,扭曲和改变传统文化。’)”可知,Adrian Phillips认为过度旅游可能不仅仅导致不方便,它还会让游客感到不愉快,破坏当地景观,给当地设施带来压力,扭曲和改变传统文化,故选A。
14.主旨大意题。根据第三段“Thailand’s historic city of Chiang Mai has recently charged a $147.5 fine for tourists wearing unsuitable clothing in temple zones, alongside cultural training for guides assisting international visitors, which comes as the city experiences an explosion in tourism, putting pressure on its culture. The Indonesian island of Bali, where by the middle of 2024, international tourism arrivals — 7.75million — surpassed those of all of 2019, is also seeing pushback against the rapid-fire expansion of tourism, with hotlines set up to report inappropriate behaviour by foreigners.(泰国历史名城清迈最近对在寺庙区穿着不合适的游客收取147.5美元的罚款,同时对协助国际游客的导游进行文化培训。目前,清迈正经历着旅游业的爆炸式增长,给其文化带来了压力。到2024年年中,印尼巴厘岛的国际旅游人数达到775万,超过了2019年全年的国际旅游人数。巴厘岛也出现了对旅游业快速扩张的抵制,设立了举报外国人不当行为的热线)”可知,本段主要讲述泰国清迈和印尼巴厘岛对于过度旅游问题采取的措施,故选D。
15.词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句“Rather than set limits on the number of visitors or fine people for visiting famous landmarks, stakeholders should give full attention to the meaningful experiences, fair economic benefits, and sustainable practices that come with exploring alternatives.(stakeholders不应该限制游客数量或对参观著名地标的人罚款,而应该充分关注探索替代方案所带来的有意义的体验、公平的经济效益和可持续的实践)”可知,“限制游客数量或对参观著名地标的人罚款”以及“充分关注探索替代方案所带来的有意义的体验、公平的经济效益和可持续的实践”应是属于“旅游官员”的责任范畴,故选A。

故选A。
17.由上文“One way to get salt is to place seawater in a shallow basin and leave it until it evaporates. (获取盐的一种方法是将海水放在浅盆中,直到它蒸发。)”可知,该句重点围绕通过蒸发海水获取盐展开。G选项“Along with salt, other minerals are left after evaporation. (除了盐,蒸发后还会留下其他矿物质。)”直接针对蒸发海水这一过程,指出在获取盐的同时,蒸发过程还会使其他矿物质残留下来,是对上文内容的合理延伸和深化,让读者对通过蒸发海水获取资源有更全面、深入的认识。故选G。
18.由上文“Other gifts from the sea are pearls, sponges and seaweed. Pearls become jewelry. (海洋的其他馈赠还有珍珠、海绵和海藻。珍珠变成了珠宝。)”可知,此句依次列举了海洋的馈赠珍珠、海绵、海藻,并说明了珍珠的用途。按照逻辑顺序,接下来应该说明海绵或海藻的用途。C选项“Natural sponges become cleaning aids. (天然海绵成为清洁用品。)”,明确了天然海绵的用途,与前文列举海洋馈赠及其用途的结构和逻辑相符,使文章在介绍海洋馈赠及其用途时层次更加清晰、有条理。故选C。
19.由上文“We cannot drink ocean water. (我们不能饮用海水。)”以及下文“But ocean water becomes fresh water when the salts are removed. (但是当盐分被去除后,海水就变成了淡水。)”可知,这里存在逻辑上的转折和补充说明。B选项“Some of its contents may cause illness. (海水中的一些成分可能会引起疾病。)”进一步解释了不能直接饮用海水的原因,即海水含有可能致病的成分,是对上文“不能饮用海水”这一内容的合理补充和说明,使读者更清楚为什么不能直接饮用海水,增强了文章内容的逻辑性和说服力。故选B。
20.由上文“What do we give to the sea Garbage. (我们给予海洋什么?垃圾。)”可知,此句引出了人类向海洋排放垃圾的问题。F选项“We pollute the ocean when we use it as a garbage dump. (当我们把海洋当作垃圾场时,我们就在污染海洋。)”,直接针对人类向海洋排放垃圾的行为,指出这种行为会导致海洋污染,与上文紧密相连,逻辑清晰。同时,自然地引出后文关于海洋污染对海洋生态造成破坏的论述,如“Huge as it is, the ocean cannot hold all the water that we pour into it. Dumping garbage into the ocean is killing off sea life, too. (尽管海洋很大,但它无法容纳我们倒入的所有东西。向海洋倾倒垃圾也在杀死海洋生物。)”使文章内容连贯、完整。故选F。

Be smart learners with AI
AI is changing how we learn. It offers many advantages, such as personalized learning and instant feedback, which help us grasp concepts faster. However, it also has downsides, like over-reliance on AI tools. Over-reliance on AI tools may cause students to lose their ability to think independently and creatively.
To be smart learners with AI, we should use it as a tool to enhance our studies. We can use AI for practice and feedback, yet it’s crucial to foster independent thinking and creativity by solving problems on our own and brainstorming ideas without immediate AI assistance.
Balance is key; use AI to supplement, not replace traditional learning methods. By doing so, we can maximize the benefits of AI while overcoming its limitations.

范文
To my surprise, Paisley smiled warmly and asked if she could join me. I was taken aback by her forgiveness and willingness to give me another chance. I eagerly invited her to sit, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I explained my regret for my actions on that Halloween night. I apologized and I assured her that I had learned my lesson. She listened intently and forgave me, expressing her own desire for friendship. From that day forward, we formed a bond that was built on trust, honesty, and loyalty.
As I look back on that regrettable “mean girl” moment, I am grateful for the growth it brought into my life. This experience influenced me deeply and served as a turning point in my life. It made me more conscious of my choices and considerate of how those choices might affect others, reminding me that the true measure of a person lies not in their popularity or achievements but in how they treat others. I am grateful to Paisley for forgiving me and for being a constant reminder of the person I strive to be.
