Is math taught the same way in England and China The answer is yes!
In England, the math 21 we attend are very similar to what kids have in China. During each class, our teacher teaches about a new math concept (概念). Later, we finish either a worksheet (活页练习) or a booklet to improve 22 understanding. We have a test once every term to 23 how much we have learned.
But in Year 13, things were a little 24 . We didn’t do any end-of-year exams. We did something different—a math test to form “sets”. What does a set mean In each class of 26students, only 30 percent will reach the top 25 . The other students will be in the medium (中间的) set. To get into the top set, you 26 to get high scores on your math exams. With the sets, teachers can focus on a smaller group of students who are 27 at math. They can pay more attention to them and give them harder questions to do.
I had my math sets exam on May 17. It had two parts, A and B. For part A, we had 40 minutes. It was mainly arithmetic (算术) and 28 about numbers. For part B, we had 50 minutes to 29 problem-solving questions.
I got into the top set. It is true that the lessons are 30 harder. But I like it because it makes me more competitive (有竞争力的).

“I need everyone to get into four teams,” she said. “Who would like to be a team leader ”
Cody raised his hand. He chose his friends Zack and Jessica to be on his team first. Next he chose Jane, who was a great runner.
Then Mrs. Carter said, “River, you will join Cody’s team.” Cody hesitated (犹豫) for a moment. He didn’t know River very well, but River seemed to be poor at sports.
“Remember: real winners are those who do their best, even if they don’t win.” Mrs.Carter told the teams.
“Mrs. Carter is right.” River said quietly. “My dad always says that having fun and doing your best are better than winning.”
“Nothing is better than winning!” Cody shouted.
Then Cody’s team practiced every day after school. They ran and jumped. However, Cody’s attitude towards sports made his teammates uncomfortable. “Winning is all you ever talk about.” Jessica shouted and walked off.
The next few weeks were hard. Jessica was always angry with Cody. Zack was quieter than usual.
Jane tried to stay out of everyone’s way. Rive r tried to cheer everyone up by making jokes. This put Cody in an even worse mood.

The day of the School Olympics finally arrived. Jane won the 50-meter run. River came third in the long jump. In the end, the team got second place.

During the first four weeks of my volunteer English teaching experience in Africa, it didn’t rain at all. No one had air conditioners. Once the air cooled in the evening, people sat outside with their neighbors and waited for the heat to leave their bedrooms. Televisions were dragged to open doorways, but people mostly talked to one another. My neighborhood was run-down, but I had been drawn to it for their happy and friendly relationship.
One evening, I left my room to buy some juice. When I reached a darker area, two young men stopped me and robbed me of my cell phone. After they walked away, I shouted loud enough for everyone to hear. “Just leave it in the street and keep walking,” I shouted, somehow thinking that they would. The area became less familiar, and I realized I shouldn’t shout at men with knives—especially in a run-down neighborhood. I slowed down and was about to turn back when some men playing soccer in the street grabbed the two robbers.
“Did these men steal from you ” One of them asked.
“They took my cell phone.” I pointed. “That one has it in his pocket.”
One of the men, older than the rest, took my phone out of the robber’s pocket and handed it to me. When the men let the two robbers go, they ran and disappeared into the night quickly. After knowing I was teaching at the school in the community, the older man said, “We will protect you around here since you’re one of us now.”
42. What did the writer like about the neighborhood
A. The friendly relationship. B. The local weather.
C. The living conditions. D. The local scenery.
43. How did the writer feel when coming to the less familiar area
A. Confident. B. Afraid. C. Relaxed. D. Surprised.
44. Why did the older man say that the writer was one of them
A. Because he knew the writer before.
B. Because the writer had been there for a long time.
C. Because the writer was working for their community.
D. Because the writer agreed to join them in playing soccer.
45. What’s the text mainly about
A. Travelling in Africa. B. A beautiful scene in Africa.
C. Being an English teacher in Africa. D. An unforgettable experience in Africa.
D
If you are planning on traveling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double-check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10:50, but the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination (目的地) before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who traveled in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
46. Where is the author most probably from
A. Italy. B. The USA. C. Britain. D. Greece.
47. What did the author do when he found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver
A. He tried to pay by credit card.
B. He offered to pay in pounds.
C. He waited for the bank to open with the driver.
D. He asked the driver to give him a free ride.
48. What’s the weather in London generally like in May
A. Warm and dry. B. Cold and dry.
C. Hot and wet. D. Cool and rainy.

Although AI can bring people comfort, it still cannot match the full abilities of a human doctor.
From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to solve different personal problems. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful advice from the popular chatbot. AI is changing the way people find mental (心理的) health support. But can AI truly take the place of a human doctor Around the world, 45 percent of people who needed mental treatment (治疗) in 2024 did not receive it, with difficulties including cost and a shortage (短缺) of doctors, according to Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon. He believes AI could help solve the shortage of mental health services.“If people can find some support and opinions by talking to a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” said Lowd.
Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for mental support in some ways. However, he pointed out that AI cannot completely take the place of real doctors because it doesn’t have the human side which is important for treatment. Human doctors develop a deeper understanding of people’s feelings and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more practical treatment plans.
The use of AI in mental health also raises worries over its reliability (可靠性). “AI chatbots will act as doctors if asked, without any of the training or responsibility of human doctors,” said Richard Lachman, a professor in Canada.
Scientists believe the key to making AI mental treatment safe is proper government control. Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that provides users with conversations through an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK’s National Health Service, following a list of strict standards. As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human mental health means finding a balance between what’s helpful and what’s dangerous.
49. What does Daniel Lowd think of AI mental treatment
A. Useful. B. Colorful. C. Doubtful. D. Harmful.
50. Why does Li Yong believe AI can’t fully take the place of human doctors
A. AI is too expensive to get. B. AI is unable to give any advice.
C. AI is unable to understand feelings. D. AI knows little about mental health.
51. What can we know about AI mental treatment according to the text
A. People can use it without any worries.
B. Wysa can give its patients strict standards.
C. It can be trained as a human doctor.
D. It needs government rules to make it safe.
52. What is the text mainly about
A. The increasing use of AI chatbots.
B. AI’s role in mental health care.
C. The future of education with AI.
D. The advantages of AI for mental support.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in space The most important thing to remember about living in space is that there is no gravity (重力). That means astronauts can’t do a lot of things that you do easily in your daily life. For example, astronauts can’t pour (倒) themselves a cup of juice in the same way you can. Why Because gravity makes the juice pour from the bottle into your cup. Astronauts can’t rely (依靠) on gravity. Also, they can’t lie on beds and sleep like you do, because gravity is what keeps you anchored (固定) to your bed.
So, how do astronauts live in space Eating in space is like eating on Earth in some ways. Food like rice and mashed (糊状的) potatoes sticks to spoons, so it doesn’t float away. Other foods come in cans or packages. So they don’t float away, either.
There is no gravity in space, so astronauts do not have to sleep on beds or the floor. They can sleep anywhere they want, and they can sleep in any position they want. They usually use sleeping bags. They simply tie their sleeping bags to a wall. This way, they don’t float around and bump (撞) into things while they are sleeping.
Astronauts are very busy people. They have jobs to do, and work very hard. But they also need to relax sometimes. Astronauts usually get to talk to their families though video calls once a week. They also get to stay in touch by email. Astronauts can bring chess and other games with them. Some even bring musical instruments. Astronauts also watch movies and news programmes. Sometimes they talk to schools and news reporters, too. Astronauts may have a lot of work to do, but they also find time for fun.
