One of the best parts of autumn is its beautiful colors. Normally green leaves turn into red, orange, yellow, and finally brown. This is called "leaf phenology", and many people look forward to it every year. However, due to climate change, autumn is changing.
According to a study published earlier this year in a journal, the season length is growing, meaning that it is taking longer for leaves to change their colors. And this is not the only way that climate change is ruining the season.
"Trees are holding onto their leaves longer," explained Dr. Howard Diamond, a senior climate scientist. "In my own neighborhood, I can remember that the leaves would drop a lot sooner 20 years ago than they do now. This is a personal observation, but research actually supports this phenomenon we're witnessing."
Climate change isn't just causing the leaves to change later. We can also expect later frosts (霜) according to Dr. Michael E. Mann, a professor of the University of Pennsylvania. Mann said, "That means mosquitoes and pests remain active for a longer time in autumn, posing a greater health risk to human beings."
If there is any good news at all, though, we may be able to stave off this development. Mann pointed out that if humans limit their carbon dioxide emissions, they can still prevent the worst effects of climate change from affecting them during the autumn months. "A new study recently provides further evidence that surface warming will likely stop after carbon emissions reach zero," Mann stated in his recent comment for Live Science.

In the Taishan Mountain scenic area in Tai'an, Shandong province, a robotic dog was tested. Its main job was to carry heavy loads, such as garbage, acting as a "porter"(脚夫) on the mountain and reducing the need for human workers.
Every year, Taishan Mountain receive millions of visitors. These tourists produced nearly 24,000 tons of waste every year. The terrain (地形) in the Taishan Mountain made it harder and more costly to clean and transport the garbage as large machines couldn't be used and the garbage had to be collected by hand.
To solve this problem, the scenic area tested robotic dogs for waste collection. The tested robotic dogs were some of the fastest and most advanced industrial-grade quadruped (四足的) robots on the market. They could cross obstacles (障碍) easily, keep good balance, and carry heavy loads for a long time.
Tests were carried out over three days at the base, middle and top of the mountain. The robotic dogs, equipped with a shelf and cargo (货物) box that could carry 30 to 40 kilograms, were tested for climbing ability and load-bearing capacity (容量) on the challenging terrain.
Results showed that they could reach the top of the mountain from the base within two hours, while the average time for adult tourists not carrying a heavy load was around four hours. The robots could operate for four to six hours on a full charge. During the tests, the robotic dogs fit over 80 percent of the mountain's terrain.
Many tourists were attracted by these robotic dogs. Wang Yang, a tourist from Heilongjiang Province, said, "I saw it climbing and took a photo with it. It's truly amazing."

How often do you go to the park Is it part of your everyday life, or a trip that you plan Many large city parks are far from where people live. It means they are a place for planned visits rather than everyday life. For example, only 14% of the population of Los Angeles have a park in walking distance. Also, such parks often benefit some areas much more than others. It's hardly helpful to deal with this by creating large new parks. So some cities turn small areas of land, empty parking lots or even parts of quiet streets into pocket parks. This has a major effect on the quality of life.
Often no larger than a few tennis courts (场) and, above all, within neighbourhoods close to where people live, these green spaces can increase community connections. They provide a place to meet neighbours, or a play area for children. Green gyms or ball game areas can give local people a space to exercise in, improving public health. Local businesses can use spaces to organize events to sell their products. A study by the University of Philadelphia, showed that crime (犯罪) was reduced in neighbourhoods with pocket parks, compared to those without. Studies report that where space is used to make pocket parks, communities feel greater ownership of their neighbourhood.
As well as benefits for the human population, an increase in green space can benefit the local environment. Pocket parks allow wildlife to travel across the city. Tree branches and leaves spread out and cover the parks, so they can help to reduce temperatures. Trees also help to reduce air pollution. Green space can reduce flood risks, because it allows water to float away.
Pocket parks are providing valuable relaxing places. With the rapid development of cities, pocket parks have become a cheap way to improve communities and local environments.

Born in Guangdong Province in 1926,Huang saw his country suffer from foreign attacks during his childhood. Because of these bad memories and experiences,he made up his mind to study hard and use his knowledge to make his country stronger. In the 1950s,China began the challenging task of building nuclear submarines (核潜艇). Huang Xuhua bravely joined this project. At that time, there wasn't much advanced technology or resources, this task was like climbing a very high mountain.
Huang and his team faced many challenges while keeping the project a secret. They mustn't share their work with anyone outside their group, not even their families. So Huang was away from home for years. As they worked on designing the submarines, they faced significant problems. Another major challenge was ensuring the submarine could remain stable underwater. After many tests, they gradually found solutions to these problems.
Finally,in the 1970s,China successfully built and tested its first nuclear submarine. This made China one of the few countries that could do this. Huang didn't stop there. He continued to improve submarine technology and received many awards for his hard work, including the "Medal of the Republic" in 2019.

Being able to play a musical instrument is, without doubt, useful. You can entertain guests with a piano piece at a dinner, or make friends by joining a band. Besides, those who play musical instruments have often been found to perform better on cognitive tests (认知测试).
Some studies compared the cognitive ability of musicians and non-musicians. Their findings showed that musical training could bring small but important cognitive benefits. However, these studies had short monitoring periods (监测周期). This made it impossible to find out if these cognitive changes remained throughout a person's lifetime.
Judith Okely at Edinburgh University found a way to solve the problem. In 1947, the Scottish government tested the intelligence of almost every 11-year-old child in the country. In 1997, Dr Okely's team contacted 1, 091 of those children and tested their intelligence once more between 2004 and 2007. The study continues and the participants need to take a cognitive test every three years.
In 2017, Katie Overy, also at Edinburgh University, asked the original participants about their musical experiences over the years. The participants were asked how many instruments they played and what their training was like. They were also asked to record how many years of regular practice they had had and what performance level they had reached. A total of 366 participants provided useful information and 117 mentioned that they had some degree of experience with musical instruments.
All in all, the researchers have found that there is a close relationship between the playing of an instrument and a person's change in cognitive ability. Moreover, the longer people practise playing an instrument, the more likely they are to show a positive cognitive change over the course of their lives. The effect is small, but it remains important.

37.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us
A.Music can sometimes change the way people see things.
B.People's cognitive ability has something to do with their ages.
C.People's cognitive ability is difficult to change in a short time.
D.More practice in playing an instrument can help improve one's cognition.
38.The purpose of this passage is to ____.
A.encourage readers to learn a musical instrument
B.introduce something interesting about people's cognition
C.provide readers with some ways to improve their cognition
D.explain the relationship between musical training and cognitive ability
39.Which is the right structure of the passage

On Tuesday, a video became popular, because it showed tourists in the desert in Turpan, northwest China. In the video, the tourists' hair stood on end, but it went back to usual after they drove three kilometers. Many netizens (网民) said it meant a storm was coming and suggested they should run away as soon as possible.
