As children, many of us dreamed of becoming astronauts. But somewhere along the way, reality hit hard — college degrees, corporate jobs, and nine-to-five routines took the place of those space dreams.
Yet for some, that dream never faded. At just 21, Snehadeep Kumar from Bengal, is turning his childhood fascination into reality. Along with Mohit Kumar Nayak, a Computer Science student, they are working to democratise (大众化) space research, starting with building India’s first gamma-ray detection CubeSat through their student-led space startup, “Nebula Space Organisation”.
Their story is not just about chasing dreams but about making them accessible to others, too.
Snehadeep’s journey began in Grade 1, when his father handed him an encyclopedia (百科全书) and switched the television to the Discovery Channel. Space, in all its vastness and mystery, interested him immediately.
By Grade 9, Snehadeep had built a model to demonstrate groundwater replenishment (补给) using seeds for a science exhibition. A teacher’s unintentional comment — that he should publish his work — planted another seed: what if there was a scientific journal that welcomed work from high-schoolers, students often sidelined by academic publishing
Three years later, that idea took form as Aurora Academy Journal. Fueled by connections made through Discord, Snehadeep gathered a global team of like-minded teenagers who created a platform for young researchers to publish their research worldwide.
In October 2021, Nebula Space Organisation was officially born. By the time Snehadeep entered college in 2022, they had a physical presence. There, he met Mohit Kumar Nayak, who shared his dream. They decided to build something monumental together and eventually made a gamma-ray detection CubeSat, a mini satellite using local material, reducing the expense by 125%.
While many see space as the final frontier reserved for billion-dollar companies and excellent scientists, Snehadeep and Mohit believe otherwise. They are proof that innovation doesn’t need well-equipped labs or massive budgets. As they prepare to test the India’s first gamma-ray CubeSat, built by students, they’re not just reaching for the stars — they’re building a bridge so that countless others can, too.
4. What is the significance of Snehadeep’s story
A. It proves the power of role models.
B. It shows the potential of space exploration.
C. It simplifies the process of satellite launching.
D. It inspires ordinary people to follow their dreams.
5. What gave Snehadeep the idea of starting a scientific journal
A. An encyclopedia. B. A teacher’s words.
C. His father’s encouragement. D. The Discovery Channel on TV.
6. What can we know about the gamma-ray detection CubeSat
A. It was built at a relatively low cost.
B. It is the first mini satellite in the world.
C. It is a bridge to link all gifted students together.
D. It was finished under the guidance of great scientists.
7. Which words can best describe Snehadeep
A. Devoted and honest. B. Creative and modest.
C. Cooperative and passionate. D. Intelligent and humorous.

In the vibrant savannas (热带稀树草原) of Africa, superb starlings (椋鸟), known for their striking features and lively chatter, exhibit a unique behavior that has arrested the attention of scientists. These birds help raise their own chicks and assist in caring for the babies of unrelated birds.
Researchers from Columbia University and Cornell University analyzed two decades of field data, containing 40 breeding seasons and thousands of interactions among hundreds of birds. Their findings revealed that superb starlings often engage in helping each other, even when they are not related by blood.
Superb starlings live in mixed flocks, comprising both family groups and newcomers. New parents rely on up to 16 helpers, which bring extra food to the chicks and help ward off predators (捕食者). The study also found that birds that helped others were later returned the favor, sometimes repeatedly, indicating a form of reciprocity in community.
This idea of forming friendships with unrelated individuals has sparked debate among scientists. However, a growing body of research supports the existence of such relationships in various species, including monkeys, elephants, crows, and whales. The study of superb starlings adds to this evidence, showing that these birds consistently invest in preferred social partners over their lifetimes.
Birds in larger groups tend to live longer and reproduce more offspring over their lifetime. In the harsh and unpredictable environment of the African savanna, closely connecting with each other is essential for their survival. Besides, the addition of newcomers to the flock enhances the group’s endurance and adaptability.
This study underscores the importance of strong social bonds, which can offer valuable insights for humans. In a world where many people struggle with loneliness, the superb starling’s behavior suggests that forming and maintaining supportive relationships can have significant benefits. By helping others, these birds create a network of support that enhances their own well-being and that of their community.
8. What feature of super starlings attracts scientists’ attention
A. Habit of living in groups. B. Practice of helping others.
C. Ways to chatter to others. D. Ability to know human speech.
9. What does the underlined word “reciprocity” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Exchange. B. Competition. C. Adaptation. D. Distinction.
10. Why do superb starlings help raise unrelated chicks
A. To gain favor with other birds. B. To compete for food resources.
C. To practice their parenting skills. D. To increase chances of surviving.
11. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. Humans should live in harmony with nature.
B. Superb starlings are intelligent and adaptable.
C. Humans need to draw inspiration from nature.
D Superb starlings can form friendships with others.
D
The medical field has always been quick to adopt new technologies. In 2017, Ezekiel Emanuel, a well-known oncologist (肿瘤学家) , predicted that machine learning would soon make radiologists (放射科医生) jobless. However, that hasn’t happened. Instead, artificial intelligence (AI) has greatly changed the field of radiology.
About two-thirds of radiology departments in the US use AI in some way. A CT scan of the body includes hundreds of images that radiologists must study. AI tools can sort through these images to figure out which ones are most likely to have abnormalities. A 2023 study in the journal Lancet Oncology also shows the promise of AI in radiology. Over 80,000 women in Sweden were randomly assigned either two radiologists to read their X-rays or one radiologist plus AI and the study found a similar cancer detection rate for both groups.
But AI tools aren’t perfect. A 2024 study in Radiology looked at AI’s ability to screen out certain diseases on chest X-rays. Although AI had a high level of accuracy for ruling out disease, when it made a mistake, it was potentially more critical than something missed by a radiologist. Most AI detection products produce false judgements that radiologists are responsible for following up on. “AI that’s focused on detecting abnormalities can actually create more work for the radiologist,” a medical professor Langlotz says. This has discouraged the adoption of some AI algorithms (算法) .
Although AI is a hot topic, it has been .part of radiology for decades, says Despina Kontos, a professor of radiological sciences at Columbia University. It used to be called computer-aided diagnosis, but it was essentially doing the same thing. Surely, most experts agree that radiologists won’t be replaced by AI. Instead, they will use the technology to improve their accuracy and speed up their workflow. “AI is going to be a vital part of assisting radiologists in reading studies for a long time,” says Fishman, one of the experts.
12. What is the possible function of AI tools in radiology
A. To replace the need for radiologists. B. To reduce the number of false reports.
C. To select images and identify problems. D. To provide a final diagnosis for patients.
13. Why has AI use decreased
A. For poor accuracy. B. For added work to radiologists.
C. For official disapproval. D. For doctors’ resistance to new tech.
14. What is the attitude of experts towards AI in radiology
A. Approving. B. Opposed. C. Cautious. D. Concerned.
15. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The future of radiology in AI era. B. The role of AI in modern radiology.
C. The limitations of AI in medical imaging. D. The impact of AI on radiologists’ workload.

On a quiet Sunday evening, Pastor (牧师) Roy was settling into his chair when his phone rang. It was Trisha, a new member of the small church where Roy had been working for the past five years and Roy was still getting to know the families.
“Pastor Roy, I’m so sorry that Jeanie fell,” Trisha said, her voice filled with concern. Roy knew Jeanie well; she was the only church pianist who had broken her wrist in an accident earlier that week. Several members had offered to help, but Trisha had a different idea. “My son Daniel plays the piano quite well,” she said hesitantly. “If you’d like, he could fill in until Jeanie recovers.”
Roy paused, momentarily at a loss for words. Daniel was only nine years old. He imagined the audience’s reaction to a child playing the piano during the Sunday service. Would they be supportive, or would they be skeptical He didn’t want to hurt Trisha’s feelings, “May I call you back in a few minutes ” he asked. Trisha agreed, and he hung up, deep in thought.
Roy leaned back in his chair, reflecting on the situation. He had always emphasized the importance of faith and trust in his teaching, yet here he was, hesitating over a decision. He decided to seek advice from Ben, a music director and his close friend. “What if we ask Trisha to bring Daniel to the church on Tuesday evening ” Ben proposed. “We can listen to him play and then make an informed decision.”
On Tuesday evening, Trisha-arrived at the church with Daniel. Roy and Ben sat in the front row, watching as Daniel walked up to the piano. He gave a slight bow, a gesture he was used to before his recitals (演奏会) . At the moment, Trisha smiled encouragingly, while Roy and Ben exchanged nervous glances.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
Daniel sat down and carefully placed the sheet music on the stand.

Dear Jenny,
I’m excited about the upcoming group speech contest. My suggestion for the topic is “Balancing Traditional Values and Modern Trends”.
This topic is meaningful and close to our lives, so everyone can share personal experiences easily. We’re growing up in a fast-changing world, where we often face conflicts between family traditions and new ideas — like how to celebrate festivals or views on career choices. It encourages us to share personal stories, which makes speeches more vivid. Moreover, it allows us to practice various vocabulary related to modern life.
I believe this topic can inspire lively discussions. Looking forward to your thoughts!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
Daniel sat down and carefully placed the sheet music on the stand. For a moment, there was complete silence. Then, his fingers began to dance across the keys, filling the church with his charming music. His playing was not showy, but genuine, as if he was sharing a gift from the heart. When he finished, he stood up and walked toward the adults. “Thanks for letting me play tonight!” he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. Ben and Roy were stunned and then asked Daniel if he had ever played while people sang. Daniel nodded, mentioning that he had played for a school choir. Ben and Roy exchanged glances again and they knew they had found their pianist.
The following Sunday morning, Roy proudly announced the young pianist to the audience. As Daniel walked to the piano, the audience’s reactions varied. Some looked surprised, while a few had an “Aw, won’t this be cute ” expression. When Daniel began to play, everyone was initially shocked. How could such a small boy play so skillfully But soon, they were attracted by his music. The familiar hymns took on a new life under his fingers, and the audience sang with joy and enthusiasm. By the end of the service, Roy realized that sometimes the youngest among us could teach us the greatest lessons, reminding us that age is no barrier to talent or to touching the hearts of others.
