A Chinese name includes a family name and a given name. Most family names date back to ancient times. They are usually from the names of a village, a state, or an official position. For example, Qi (齐) comes from the state name Qi, and Ouyang (欧阳) is the name of a township.
English names also have two parts: given names and family names. Different from Chinese names, the order is “given name(s) + family name”. Sometimes, people have second or third given names to honour a family member or for other purposes.

English family names are usually from where the family lived, the way they looked, or the kind of work they did. For example, a family living with many trees and plants might take the name Green. If they had dark hair, they were called the Blacks or the Browns. And a person who had a good voice was named Singer.
A given name, either in Chinese or in English, carries the hope of a family for a baby. For example, “Yong” in Chinese and
“Andy” in English both mean “brave”; “Li”
in Chinese and “Lily” in English “beautiful”.

1. A Chinese name includes a family name and a given name.
include / n'klu d/ v. 包括；包含
辨析：include 与including include 作动词，意为“ 包括”，在句中作谓语。其宾语经常是构成整体的一部分，有时也可以指构成整体的全部。
including 作介词，意为“ 包括……在内”，一般用在逗号后面或冒号的前面，有时也可放在句子中。
Language points

2. Sometimes, people have second or third given names to honour a family member or for other purposes.
honour /' n (r)/ v. 尊敬，尊重 n. 尊敬；尊重；荣誉
①作动词时，意为“尊敬，尊重；颁奖”。
e.g. He honours his teachers. 他尊敬他的老师。
He was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
他被授予诺贝尔医学奖。
②作不可数名词时，意为“尊敬；尊重”。show honour to sb. 意为“向某人表示敬意”。
e.g. I show honour to the parents who attend the meeting.
我向出席会议的家长们表示敬意。
3. A given name, either in Chinese or in English, carries the hope of a family for a baby.
either... or... 意为“要么……要么……；或者……或者……”，用来连接两个独立的单词、短语或句子。
either...or... 用作连词，连接并列主语时, 其谓语动词的单复数形式与邻近的主语保持一致,即遵循“就近原则”。
e.g. Either you or I am going there tomorrow.
明天要么你去那里，要么我去那里。

In English, your given name is before your family name, but in Chinese, your family name goes first. My mum has two names, too. Her Chinese name is Huang Bixia. Her English name is Patricia Baker.
