B [2025·鄂东南省级示范高中联盟校高一期中联考]
The Liangzhu Museum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, houses a treasure trove of jade, lacquerware and numerous artifacts, but what has impressed Emma Chen, a volunteer coming from the United States, the most is its black pottery collection, which shows unique symbols that some scholars think are inscriptions (碑文) from another era.
Her passion for Chinese history happened before she was majoring in Oriental Studies. She learned Chinese during her college days in the US, and the interest ultimately drove her across the Pacific Ocean. Coming to China in early 2015 after graduating, she became a member of the museum’s volunteer team in 2022. Chen said her frequent visits to the museum led to them making an offer. However, being a bilingual (会说两种语言的) volunteer guide is not without its share of challenges. Chen has read numerous books on Chinese history and visited many museums in China to overcome problems.
For Chen, Liangzhu Museum has become “a big family” that gives her a sense of belonging. “What fascinates me even more is that the museum itself is inclusive,” she said. “It opens its arms, welcoming everyone who comes here, regardless of their background. I hope everyone can walk into museums and get a glimpse of the rich and profound history behind the cultural relics.”
Chen has visited many museums in China, such as the Yinxu Museum in Henan Province and the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province. But in her eyes, Liangzhu Museum is a valuable treasure that cannot be replaced because she believes every word that is written on a wall in the hall of the museum, that “Liangzhu is the most concrete proof of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization”. In 2019, the Liangzhu ruins made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
( )24.What possibly contributes to Emma Chen’s work as a volunteer
A.Diligence and enthusiasm.
B.Passion and bravery.
C.Interest and generosity.
D.Ambition and intelligence.
( )25.What does the underlined sentence actually mean in Paragraph 3
A.The museum includes varieties of collections.
B.The museum welcomes people from all walks of life.
C.People can get a glimpse of the rich and profound history of the museum.
D.The museum opens its arms to people free of charge.
( )26.Why does Emma Chen regard Liangzhu Museum as a precious treasure
A.The museum houses a treasure trove of jade, lacquerware and artifacts.
B.The black pottery collection leaves a deep impression on her.
C.The Liangzhu Museum can best show Chinese civilization.
D.The Liangzhu ruins made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
( )27.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the passage
A.To promote the Liangzhu Museum in Hangzhou.
B.To compare different kinds of museums in China.
C.To introduce an American volunteer for a Chinese museum.
D.To praise an American volunteer’s determination.
C [2025·山东烟台高一期中]
“No!” That’s the word we hear in the latest cute baby video that spreads quickly. But it’s not the words that Baby Orla says that have made this video so popular. It’s the fact that her pronunciation clearly mimics that of Liverpool in Britain, which makes her sound more like locals in Liverpool.
This now-famous baby may only have been born in 2022, but the different accents (口音) of babies have been investigated for many years. In 2009 Professor Caroline and her team conducted a study. They compared French babies with German babies and found that French babies tend to cry with a rising tone (声调), while German babies’ cries often have a falling tone. They also found American and French babies reflect syllables (音节) from English and French separately, and that babies with parents who speak a tonal language, like Mandarin, have a greater range of tones in their crying.
So why does this happen As children develop, they practise making the sounds of the language that they hear around them. It’s natural that they pick up sounds and rhythms around them. In fact, babies start to learn language from their mother about three months before birth. However, it’s not just the language of immediate family and caregivers that has an impact. Caroline’s studies show that children are more likely to learn the accent of their environment than that of a parent who has an accent that is foreign to that location.
What the studies also show is that babies are learning language through practice, and that the more time parents spend interacting with their children, the greater the opportunity for them to learn. While babies may not be able to say many words, studies show that they can understand many times the number of words that they can actually say. Giving babies exposure to a greater number of words allows them to better build their vocabulary.
( )28.What does the underlined word “mimics” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Corrects. B.Develops.
C.Copies. D.Affects.
( )29.How did Caroline prove the different accents of babies
A.By making comparisons.
B.By presenting opinions.
C.By doing a questionnaire survey.
D.By describing an experience.
( )30.What does Paragraph 3 stress
A.Parents’ special methods of raising children.
B.Several stages of kids’ language development.
C.Home language’s influence on the growth of kids.
D.Surroundings’ role in children’s acquiring accents.
( )31.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.Babies’ language ability depends on their ages.
B.Babies can teach themselves a large vocabulary.
C.Babies can speak more words than they can make out.
D.Babies’ interaction with adults is helpful in learning words.

Facial recognition technology is mostly linked with uses such as the authentication (验证) of human faces, but scientists believe they’ve found a new use for it—saving seals.
Researchers have developed SealNet. The system is a database of seal faces created by taking pictures of many harbor seals in Maine’s Casco Bay. The research team found the tool was close to 100 percent correct in identifying (识别) seals.
The researchers are working on increasing the size of their database to make it available to other scientists. Increasing the database to include rare species could help efforts to save them. The Mediterranean monk seal is thought to be the world’s most at-risk seal with only a few hundred animals left.
Creating a list of seal faces and using machines learning to identify them can also help scientists know where in the ocean seals are. Ocean mammals move around a lot and are hard to photograph in the water. Scientists need to be able to identify individuals.
SealNet is designed to identify the face in a picture. It recognizes the seal’s face based on information related to the eyes and nose shape, as it would a human. A similar tool called PrimNet, which is for use on primates, had been used on seals earlier, but SealNet performed better.
Seals and other ocean mammals have long been studied by using satellite technology. Using AI to study them is a way to bring protection into the 21st century. Facial recognition technology could provide valuable data.
“Once the system is perfected, I can picture lots of interesting environmental uses for it,” said Michelle Berger, a scientist. “If they could recognize seals, and recognize them from year to year, that would give us lots of information about movement, how much they move from site to site.” He added that harbor seals give important information about the environment around them.
( )32.What can we learn about SealNet from the passage
A.It increases the size of the database.
B.It identifies seals correctly.
C.It performs worse than PrimNet.
D.It includes rare species movement.
( )33.In what aspect does SealNet help us protect seals
A.It identifies which seal is at risk in the ocean.
B.It recognizes the shape of a seal in a picture.
C.It helps scientists know the location of the seals.
D.It gives information about the animals around seals.
( )34.According to Michelle Berger, what can the system do when it is perfected
A.It can provide information of the surroundings.
B.It can recognize the seals for a year.
C.It can increase the number of seals.
D.It can provide information about primates.
( )35.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To present a high-tech method to protect seals.
B.To introduce the species of seals.
C.To explain why seals are in danger.
D.To propose a new method to recognize seals.

As a high school student, you’re likely used to learning through reading textbooks. 36. This lies at the heart of “experiential appreciation”, a philosophy that encourages you to engage directly with the world around you. It’s about learning from real-life experiences, and discovering a more profound and engaging way to learn.
To practise experiential appreciation, you can start by getting involved in hands-on activities related to your subjects. They will provide a first-hand understanding of the concepts you’re studying, making learning active and meaningful. So, try joining a sports team, picking up a paintbrush, or taking part in a local charity event. 37.
As you dive deeper, immerse yourself fully in the surroundings and activities. When you’re in nature, don’t just look around. 38. Touching the leaves, feeling the wind and listening to the birds can enrich your learning and make each moment more memorable.
39. After trying something new, ask yourself what you learned and how it made you feel. Write in a journal or discuss it with friends. This self-discovery turns experiences into life lessons and offers a deeper understanding of the world.
Experiential appreciation transforms learning from a task to be completed into a journey to be treasured. 40. So, explore the world around you, let every experience shape you, and discover the endless possibilities that wait for you. This is the core of true learning, where every moment is a step towards a richer, more enlightened life.
A.It extends learning far beyond textbooks.
B.Now consider expanding your learning from just reading to actively participating.
C.Instead, activate your senses for a stronger tie with it.
D.Mind the impact of your actions on the environment.
E.Take your experiences further by reflecting on them.
F.Textbooks offer a systematic introduction to essential concepts and principles.

I’ve lived in the new house for a few weeks. While the weather’s warm, I take my coffee out to the backyard. It wasn’t easy separating from my husband and uprooting the kids from the only home they ever know. I moved to suburbia but luckily it wasn’t the natural wilderness. There are trails (小路) in these woods, maintained by the homeowners’ association. Everything seemed to be fine, but I wasn’t sure if I picked a good place to be our new home until a wander (漫步) in the woods.
One afternoon, curious to know what was in my woods, I put on long pants and boots and announced that I would wander in the woods and find the trail. I would look for signs of life in my woods. My daughter wanted in. My son was busy showing all his toys to his grandfather, who had come to visit us.
My daughter and I went out. Without much trouble, we found the trail and one of the most amazing trees on the earth. It was like a banyan tree with many trunks shooting out from the ground. My daughter immediately climbed it and declared, “This is the fairy tree!” She threw her arms in the air, and I shot a picture. She was in rain boots and wore a sports suit, looking perfect among the woods. Soon, she found an open space with some fallen trees and declared it the “play area”. She climbed the fallen tree trunks and jumped off them sending up a puff of dust.
We kept going. Unexpectedly, we heard the sound of some children. My daughter practically felt excited at the sound of children’s play. We followed the path and found three boys were happily building a wooden house. “Hi!” my daughter shouted. “I’m new here!”

Text 10
W: Today, we will talk about a different school. In Boulder, the United States, there is a school called the Boulder Outdoor Survival School(BOSS). BOSS is the world’s oldest survival school. It teaches people how to survive outside without tents, or even backpacks. In Bryce Canyon, the days are very hot and the nights are very cold. There are no heaters to keep warm. Not everyone wants to go to this kind of school and try living without modern inventions like TVs, and computers. Students at BOSS quickly learn that staying positive, working hard, and trying new things are important if they want to complete the training. The people who go to survival camps don’t just learn to camp. Students at BOSS go into the wild for days, and sometimes weeks, to learn how nature can give them everything they need to survive. They learn how to find fresh water, make a fire, find food to eat and use knives. Most of all, BOSS students learn to survive in the wild without harming the environment. After these people go back to the real world, they may never use these talents again. Even if they don’t, they will always know that they can live without computers, electricity, and cellphones—even if it is only for a few days!

Dear Linda,
I’m sorry to know that you have difficulty in learning English, so I’m writing to give you some useful advice on it.
First of all, you can read the English words and articles aloud and memorize them, which helps enlarge your vocabulary. Besides, it is suggested that you read a variety of English books, which is good for your writing. Last but not least, you should use English more often, such as trying communicating in English with classmates.
If you hold on to your dream, I’m sure you will be successful in your English learning some day. Looking forward to receiving your good news.

One possible version:
Hearing a girl’s voice, the three boys felt surprised at first. One of the boys looked my daughter up and down for a few seconds. Then with a bright smile on his face, he asked, “Are you interested in joining us ” My daughter’s eyes glittered with delight on hearing this. Together, they collected branches, sticks and leaves and busied themselves building a wooden house. Obviously, they were enjoying themselves. Watching them, I couldn’t help thinking woods and kids just belonged together. Time passed quickly. It was almost dark before we finally came back.
When we happily got home at dusk, my dad and son were waiting for us worriedly. I apologized for our coming back so late, but my daughter looked excited. “I have so much fun in our woods today and there are so many secret play areas!” she told her brother proudly. Her brother was so jealous of her that we promised to take him adventuring the next morning. When I sensed children’s happiness, my uncertainty about moving to the new house finally gave way to a feeling of satisfaction. Anyway, we are in our new home, with our new woods to explore.
