Which fruit personality are you
In the workplace, we have to be able to deal with people who aren’t like us. No one will change for you, so you just have to respect their differences. When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. And we tend to emphasize our top two, especially under pressure. Here are some fruit personalities and how best to deal with them.
Types Introduction & Management
Apple: Hard Core Apple types are direct and don’t suffer fools. They are fast logical thinkers who love to win and hate to lose control. They’ll get a result at any cost, but see conflict as sport. 1. Always stand up to them.
2. Get to the point.
3. Don’t take it personally.
4. Watch and learn from them.
Mango: Juicy and Messy Mango types love life and can’t afford to miss a minute. They love variety because they tend to be easily distracted and naturally rule breakers. 1. Talk big picture, avoid details.
2. Give them false deadlines.
3. Don’t micro-manage.
Lemon: Concentrated Lemon types love structure and order. They are worriers who like security and predictability. They excel at spotting gaps in a plan. But too many rules can also be frustrating. 1. Respect their need for space.
2. Don’t surprise them.
3. Listen with respect.
4. Show your pace.
Banana: Sweet and Gentle Banana types enjoy peace and shy away from conflicts. They are kind to react to others’ requests. However, when they are too accommodating, they can be seen as indecisive. 1. Don’t pressure them, motivate.
2. Create a positive environment.
3. Encourage regular feedback.
4. Be nice to them.
1 What do people of Mango and Lemon personalities have in common
A. They both prefer private space and specific deadlines.
B. They both dislike being restricted by excessive rules.
C. They both serve as good ice-breakers of the workplace.
D. They both need regular feedback and being motivated.
2. Who probably favors the Banana Personality
A. Jack, an innovative thinker who is willing to face challenges.
B. Adam, a brilliant planner who always sticks to his daily routines.
C. Nancy, a patient worker who prioritizes harmonious relationships.
D. Robin, an open-minded leader who advocates the value of diversity.
3. Where can the passage probably be found
A. In an academic paper. B. In an entertainment book.
C. In a book review. D. In a psychology magazine.
B
Children tend to be attracted to animals and love them. Adults guide them to care for companion animals; to love, feed, and pamper (娇养) dogs and cats and make sure they are not harmed. At the same time, we live in a society that teaches us that it is okay to eat pigs for breakfast, chickens for lunch, and cows for dinner. In Canada, more than 800 million land animals are killed for food each year and in the United States, 55 billion animals annually. (Consider at the same time, that people take their pet dog to a spa. Tests show pigs to be easily as intelligent as dogs.)
In King Zoom the Vegan Kid, author Gillian Walters tackles issues of dietary choice in a clear, honest, non-shaming and sympathetic way. This book explains the what, why, and how of veganism (素食主义)。
In recent years, the number of self-identified vegans has increased dramatically, particularly among young adults. The scientific evidence of factory farming’s impact on the environment and the health benefits of plant-based diets can no longer be ignored. And there has never been an easier time to be vegan, with so many delicious options available.
Many youngsters who care about farm animals and wonder why our society treats them so differently from those we classify as pets will appreciate an age-appropriate resource of this book. They may be asked “Why are you vegan ” They may value support for their dietary choice.
An excellent resource for a child is Gillian Walters’ book, based on her own experiences and also on those of her son. In it, King Zoom shares real-life farm animal rescue stories. Including the story of Penny, a piglet who jumped off the back of a truck that was speeding her towards her doom (厄运). This pig was picked up by a good Samaritan and she now lives happily at the RASTA sanctuary (避难所) in Duncan, British Columbia. People typically do not recognize that pigs are feeling animals with the intelligence of a 3-year-old. They can play computer games with a joystick adapted for their use. People often begin to shift their dietary choices when they begin to see other species as similar to the cat or dog in their family.
King Zoom explores options for activism, how to live with others whose dietary choices are different from his own, and how to take care of his own feelings around topics that arise.
4. According to the passage, why has the number of vegans increased recently
A. Because of the health benefits of plant-based diets.
B. Because of the influence of social media.
C. Because of the decrease in meat production.
D. Because of the increase in pet ownership.
5. What does the story of Penny the piglet illustrate
A. The dangers of factory farming. B. The intelligence and emotional capacity of pigs.
C. The importance of animal shelters. D. The benefits of vegan activism.
6. How does the book King Zoom the Vegan Kid help young readers
A. By encouraging children to adopt pets.
B. By promoting the health benefits of a plant-based diet.
C. By providing scientific evidence on the impact of factory farming.
D. By offering age-appropriate explanations and support for veganism.
7. What is one reason people might change their dietary choices according to the passage
A. They want to follow a new trend. B. They want to save money on food.
C. They are influenced by their friends. D. They begin to see farm animals as similar to pets.

Forests have been embraced as a natural climate solution, due to their ability to soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow, locking it up in their trunks, branches, leaves, and roots. But a new study confirms widespread doubts about the potential for most forests in the Western US to help control climate change.
Published in Earth’s Future, the paper analyzed trends in carbon storage across the American West from 2005 to 2019. Led by Jazlynn Hall, a forest and landscape ecologist at Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, the team found that throughout most of the region, climate change and fires may be causing forests to store less carbon, not more.
“There’s a growing trend to use forests as natural climate solutions,” said Hall. “Many climate mitigation (减轻) pathways rely in part on additional forest carbon storage to keep warming below 1.5℃ this century. We wanted to provide a baseline for how much carbon is currently stored in Western forests, how it’s changing, and how disturbances like fire and drought pose a threat to climate mitigation targets.”
The authors warn that many Western forests could see a rapid acceleration of carbon loss in the coming years or decades. “These challenges have the potential to compromise carbon storage capacity and weaken our ability to mitigate climate change, Hah cautions.
By providing a fire-new view of threats at landscape and regional levels, Hall and colleagues provide a framework (框架) that could help forest managers adapt site-specific strategies to strengthen forest resilience (复原力). They also identify the remaining areas with the lowest risk and highest potential to store carbon, such as the Pacific Northwest.
“Our study develops new methods to carefully estimate forest-carbon storage at a regional level, track it over time, and find out the causes of changes over time,” said Hall. He expects the methods will be useful in monitoring carbon storage levels going forward, as well as assessing the carbon impacts of management efforts such as forest thinning and planned burning.
8. What does the underlined phrase “soak up” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Put down. B. Take in. C. Bring up. D. Give out.
9. Why was the study conducted
A. To find the best forests for carbon storage. B. To promote forests’ carbon storage capacity.
C. To assess the current situation of forests. D. To measure the carbon released into forests.
10. What can we say about the future trend of Western forests
A. Carbon loss will speed up. B. They will become more resilient.
C. They will store more carbon. D. They will have no impact on climate.
11. What is the primary function of Hall’s framework for forest management
A. Predicting future forest growth rates. B. Identifying high- risk areas for protection.
C. Mapping all the forests in the Western US. D. Helping managers adapt strategies to forests.
D
The term parasocial interaction (虚拟社交) was introduced in the 1950s by the social scientists Donald Horton and R. Richard Wohl. It was the early days of home television, and they were seeing people form a close connection with actors who were appearing virtually in their home. Today, the definition is much broader. After all, actors, singers, comedians, athletes, and countless other celebrities are available to us in more ways than ever before. Forming parasocial bonds has never been easier.
Psychologists document cases of parasocial relationships that can go much deeper, with severe consequences. Scholars note parasocial bonds range from casual talk about stars to intense emotions, to uncontrollable behavior and fantasies. At the deepest level, the parasocial relationship can be dangerous, such as when a fan loses touch with reality and secretly follows a star. It can also lead to confusion about one’s own identity, particularly in adolescents who are still forming their sense of self, as they may model themselves on the media figures with whom they have parasocial relationships.
In 2021, two psychologists from York University, in Canada, found that forming parasocial bonds was strongly related to avoidant attachment. That is, people who tended to push others away in their day-to-day lives were more likely to relate to fictional characters. You can easily see how parasocial relationships could be a replacement when one finds real-life attachment difficult. This could start a feedback cycle, in which avoiding close relationships stimulates parasocial bonding, which in turn leads to reduced interactions with real-life family and friends as the fans spends their time and energy on someone who doesn’t know they exist.
My purpose here is not to say that parasocial interactions are always bad for you, or even abnormal. Rather, it is to suggest that heavy parasocial bonding might be a signal that you are crowding out the real people who can give you the love you truly need. One way to address this is to get some more distance from your fictional friends, thus pausing the feedback cycle and giving yourself more space to pursue in-person connection.
12. How has parasocial interaction changed according to Paragraph 1
A. It has become more accessible. B. It has affected more celebrities.
C. It has lost much of its significance. D. It has turned into a two-way process.
13. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Reasons behind celebrity following. B. Origins of dangerous relationships.
C. Different types of parasocial relationships. D. Potential harm of parasocial relationships.
14. Which of the following can lead to parasocial relationships
A. Socializing with strangers. B. Having strong family support.
C. Participating in group activities. D. Struggling with relationships in reality.
15. What might the author suggest for those with heavy parasocial relationships
A. Meeting fictional friends in real life. B. Seeking guidance from professionals.
C. Hanging out more with real friends. D. Creating more space for being alone.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Tim had always struggled with his weight. He loved food, but at school, he often found himself the target of cruel jokes and teasing.
His classmates would call him names like “Big Tim” and make fun of his size and though Tim tried to ignore it, it still hurt. Every day, he wished he could be like the athletic kids, running fast and playing sports with ease, but that always seemed out of reach.
One day, a group of his classmates — three boys who were notorious for their pranks (恶作剧) — decided to play a trick on him. They knew Tim wasn’t athletic, and they thought it would be funny to sign him up for the upcoming school’s long-distance race. They figured he’d panic when he found out and that it would be fun to watch him fail. Without telling Tim, they registered his name for the race.
On race day, as Tim walked across the track trying to join his classmates in the stands, he saw some of them holding giant posters of his face with slogans like “The Big Runner” and “Go Tim!” He froze. He realized what had happened — the boys had tricked him into racing. His face turned red with embarrassment, but the crowd was already watching, and he felt trapped.
The starting gun fired, and to everyone’s surprise, Tim began to jog. It wasn’t fast, and he could barely keep up with the other runners, but he kept moving. His legs burned with each step, and his breath came in sharp gasps, but he didn’t stop. His classmates’ laughter echoed in his ears, but he ignored it.
As the race went on, something shifted. A few students who weren’t part of the prank started cheering for him. “Come on, Tim! You can do it!” they yelled. Their encouragement made Tim feel lighter, and his pace picked up just a little. It wasn’t about winning anymore; it was about proving to himself that he could finish.
注意:
1. 写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
By the time Tim reached the final lap, he was tired out.

【答案】Dear Peter.
I’m thrilled to share that our class won an award in the space-themed poster design contest held by our school English newspaper! It was a fantastic journey.
Teaming up with my fellows, we brainstormed ideas and divided tasks, some for design, some for research and content creation, which not only enhanced our teamwork skills but also deepened our understanding of space exploration. The process was challenging yet rewarding. I’m incredibly proud of China’s achievements in space, which have greatly inspired our poster design. It’s a memory I will cherish for a long time.
You will find a picture of the poster attached to this email. I can’t wait to hear what you think about it and do you have any interesting experiences to share
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:
By the time Tim reached the final lap, he was tired out. His legs felt like lead, and his chest tightened with every breath. Pain seared through him, but he pressed through, eyes fixed on the finish line. The crowd, now cheering for him, seemed to lift his spirits. With a final burst of energy, Tim propelled his legs forward, ignoring the burning in his muscles. As he crossed the finish line, his legs buckled beneath him, and he collapsed onto the grass, gasping for air. But a huge smile spread across his face — he had made it. Against all odds, he had finished.
The crowd erupted in applause. His classmates, who had once mocked him, were now standing and clapping and shouting his name. The boys who had set up the prank walked over, looking guilty. “We’re sorry, Tim,” one of them said. “You were amazing. ” Tim smiled, his breath still coming in short bursts. “Thanks,” he said. Winning didn’t matter. He’d finished, exceeding his own expectations. The teasing ceased. He’d shown strength isn’t in size, but in heart. He’d proven he could achieve more than anyone thought.
