You know that classics like Little Women and To Kill a Mockingbird started as novels. But you probably didn’t know that these other famous movies also came from books.
Hidden Figures
This film told the story of real-life Katherine Johnson and other female African-American mathematicians who helped drive the United States into space in the 1960s.It was actually based on a 2016 non-fiction book and the movie did boost sales of the book.
Forrest Gump
The 1994 movie which was based on the book by Winston Groom won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for the star Tom Hanks.Although the movie’s critical and box-office success gave the book a huge boost,it’s the film that made its mark on pop culture history.
The Girl on the Train
Paula Hawkin’s psychological thriller, about a woman on a train who thinks she sees something strange out of the window, was a huge success. But unlike the fast-paced,can’t-be-put-down quality of the novel, the movie was boring.
Field of Dreams
It’s hard to describe the plot of this movie: Ray Kinsella hears a voice telling him to build a baseball field in his Iowa cornfield, and what happens next explores the themes of lost dreams, childhood heroes, and healing the pain of the past. The 1989 movie is based on W.P.Kinsella’s 1982 original,Shoeless Joe,but cuts out some extra characters.

My basketball coach at Princeton used to say,“On the court, you can tell who is selfish.”
When my sister Michelle brought Barack Obama home to meet the family, she said to me,“I want you to take him out to play,to see what type of guy he is when he’s not around me.” So I invited Barack to play basketball with a few friends of mine.
I was very nervous although I had already met Barack a few times.I was thinking this guy seemed like a good guy.We played a hard five-on-five.He was thin but not weak.He played extremely left-handed.He dealt with everything perfectly. He wasn’t the best guy out there or the worst guy.I liked the fact that he was confident but wasn’t proud.Barack was very team-oriented(有团队精神的),very unselfish. He played as if he was one of us—he wasn’t trying to be president of Harvard Law Review. But the best part about it was that when we were on the same team,he did not pass me the ball each time.He wasn’t trying to suck up to my sister through me.I was glad to give my sister the good news,“Your boy is straight.”
He isn’t selfish, which is the greatest praise you can give both a player and a leader.America has got a guy who is running a government in an efficient(有效率的) manner. That’s the same guy I got to know playing basketball when he was visiting my family.

As parents,we walk a fine line between caring for our children and teaching them how to care for themselves. When they’re little, they need our help with everything.Over time, kids usually take the lead on things like feeding and dressing themselves, but it can be difficult to know when it’s time for them to start doing some basic things, such as packing their own lunches for school or solving problems with teachers without a parent’s help.
Blogger Amy Carney recently shared a post about the things parents should stop doing for their teens. In it,Carney shared the basic skills that she expects her kids to master by the time they hit 13,such as waking themselves up in the morning, making their own breakfast and lunch, and finishing their own homework.
Barb Harvey,a childhood behavior expert, gave me her answer: The age at which children learn to master certain skills will be different depending upon the maturity(成熟) and interest level of the child.
I asked the same question among my friends. They gave all kinds of answers, which can explain Harvey’s opinion.
Therefore, there’s only one expert who can determine when your kids have the ability to deal with certain skills, and that’s you.If your kids aren’t ready to pack their own lunches—don’t sweat it.Help them learn the skills they’re ready to deal with and keep working towards the end goal of raising responsible and able adults.Because if there’s one thing that we can all agree on as parents,it’s that time moves quickly when you’re raising kids. One day you will wish they could just do things without you and the next day,you will feel upset that they do.
28.What is Amy Carney’s expectation when her children are 13
A.To be a skilful cook. B.To follow Harvey’s opinion.
C.To be an expert. D.To have basic skills.
29.Who can decide when the children will learn to care for themselves
A.Amy Carney. B.Barb Harvey.
C.The children. D.The parents.
30.Why will parents feel upset when their children grow up
A.Their kids can do nothing.
B.They feel less important.
C.Their children become able adults.
D.Their kids disagree on anything.
31.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Walking a fine line.
B.Blogger Amy Carney.
C.Parents and their children’s growth.
D.A childhood behavior expert.

Having friends alone isn’t enough for good health—regular in-person interactions are necessary.A study of almost 13,000 individuals revealed that meeting friends in person at least once a week was closely connected to improved mental and physical well-being,while virtual(虚拟的) communication, like texting or calling, didn’t provide the same benefits.
Researchers discovered that in Japan men who saw their friends rarely had a 30% higher risk of death compared to those who met more often. While it’s possible that healthier people are simply more likely to socialize, the link between regular in-person contact and better health is clear, especially as more people turn to online communication.According to the American Time Use Survey, time spent with friends has dropped sharply in recent years.
Social interaction helps lower the risk of diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and even cancer.Julianne Holt-Lunstad,a neuroscientist, explains that social connections are consistently linked to better health.Friends can encourage healthy habits and share important information, like where to get a flu shot, says Eric Kim,a professor of psychology.
Interestingly, our sense of smell may also play a part in face-to-face interactions.Research suggests that body smell can communicate emotions like fear or happiness, and smelling the scent of a loved one has been shown to reduce stress. In one study, people who smelled a friend’s T-shirt stayed calmer in stressful situations.Additionally,in-person meetings seem to benefit the immune system. The study found that face-to-face contact improved the function of genes linked to the immune system, while online interactions didn’t have the same effect.
Although texting or sending photos through social media can help keep friendships alive, for deeper, more meaningful connections,we need more than just seeing someone on a screen.Using other senses, such as smell,is a key part of these interactions, even if we don’t realize it.“It makes all the difference,” says Groot.
32.What leads to improved health according to the study
A.Increased social media interactions.
B.Regular face-to-face meetings with friends.
C.Joining in physical activities with friends.
D.Exchanging information through virtual communication.
33.What benefits of in-person meeting with our friends are mentioned in the study
A.Reduced stress and improved physical health.
B.Improved memory and reduced risk of disease.
C.Balanced diet and increased physical strength.
D.Better immune function and reduced use of technology.
34.What does Groot mean by “It makes all the difference” in the last paragraph
A.Using more senses creates closer relationships.
B.Seeing someone on a screen offers similar benefits.
C.Smell is important for building stronger connections.
D.Regular social media contact keeps friendships alive.
35.How does the author support the main points
A.By discussing trends in social media use and their impact on friendships.
B.By sharing personal stories and experiences related to communication.
C.By explaining differences between virtual and in-person communication.
D.By providing research studies and expert opinions.

When I was seventeen,Dad praised me.I remember it because it was the first time.Until then, nothing I had done seemed good enough for him.And he always liked to blame(责备) me.
For example, when I was young,he would take us—his seven sons—down to help with his own business at the same school I attended. One night,Dad said to me angrily,“Hey! Look at all the things you missed! Why don’t you wake up You’re not going to amount to anything!”
At seventeen,I wrote and performed(表演) a show that was a huge success.Tickets for the show sold out in a few minutes. Finally,my dad said,“Paul,I’ve never been so proud in my life!Nothing John did could compare to this.” John,my elder brother, was the star of the family, and he was a football hero.John even called our father “Pop”, another thing that made me feel that he was much closer to him than the rest of us who called him “Dad”.
Why did he have to bring up John? Why couldn’t he just praise me?I thought that my father couldn’t even praise people in a correct way.
For years,Dad was a disappointment(令人失望的人).Up until I started teaching,I had always seen Dad as “C”.But while teaching and experiencing a classroom of teenagers who almost drove me crazy,I finally understood what it was like for my dad to be dealing with seven sons.I became angry sometimes, but it wasn’t a mistake—it was part of my hope of wanting to make a difference in their lives. And,yes,it was a fear of losing control of not being liked. In order to make me better,Dad risked being disliked.I was out to be better than him; he was out to make me better. In his heart there was a worry for his every kid.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

第二节 参考范文
So I decided to forgive(原谅) him.Dad had been doing his best to raise his seven sons.It was I who couldn’t view anything in a positive way.So I went back to my old school where I could find him.As I stood outside the window,I realised that Dad was not the only person I needed to forgive.I also needed to forgive myself, because for all the years I had hidden my bad feelings.I always became angry and even couldn’t enjoy my life.
I freed myself from those bad feelings as well.I began to realise that Dad was my biggest supporter.Dad was never against me.His praise was true, but I refused to accept it.Perhaps it is because my mom’s love was always obvious and simple, while Dad’s was totally different.“Well, there is something I do have to say,” I said.“Thank you,Pop.” And he has been “Pop” ever since—a name that not only John but also I can call.
