As the clothing industries face environmental challenges, more and more designers are exploring new ways to diminish their carbon footprint.Zsofia Kollar, the founder of Human Material Loop,is turning to an unexpected resource—human hair—to lower the effect. She collects hair cuttings from hairdressers and transforms them into fabric(布料) for clothes and home decorations.
Most people laugh at her unusual behavior. But Kollar still wants to have a try.“Throughout history,we’ve made full use of a variety of animal fibers(纤维) in textiles(纺织品),yet our own hair often gets ignored,” Kollar says.“Why not treat human hair as another valuable textile fiber?”
Human hair as a biomaterial for clothing makes perfect sense to Kollar. It’s a wonderful fiber and has extremely high performing abilities. It’s very lightweight but fairly strong. The combined hair of a head could support the weight of two elephants.Nobody feels uncomfortable with hair, which is an important aspect when developing it for the clothing market.
The production process of the cut hair involves treating it with harmless chemicals. These chemicals help clean the hair and reduce its hardness.Kollar says the resulting material can be dyed any color, except white, and be made into fabric that feels soft and comfortable. Moreover, the fabric could serve as a replacement for natural materials like cotton, whose production requires a lot of water and harmful chemicals.“Waste hair doesn’t harm any soil, need any harmful chemical, pollute any water,or produce any greenhouse gas,” Kollar points out.
Human Material Loop, which was founded in 2021,is still in its early stages. So far,the hair fabric has only been used to create simple types of clothing. But Kollar has partnered with a high-end fashion company to make a few of her clothes later in 2025.The designer’s ultimate dream is to transform twenty-five percent of global hair-salon waste—550,000 tons of human hair—into fabric annually by 2034.

Lapland’s reindeer(驯鹿) grow well in winters of -30℃ and even colder. So when rain falls instead of snow during the coldest months in the Arctic,it makes food hard to get for them. Now one of the best-loved symbols of Christmas is probably dying out.Numbers have fallen by over half in the last two decades as the place warms at four times the global average rate.
The animals are used to pull sleigh(雪橇) rides for tourists. The rides are part of Lapland winter wonderland experiences in thousands of British tourists each year. But this year the working herd had to be moved 60 miles further north due to the absence of snow.As a result, they can’t be provided in some areas, making it hard for people to earn a living.
Lapland is often described as Europe’s last great wilderness, home to lynxes, brown bears, wolverines and golden eagles.Tourism is a big part of the economy, and the town of Rovaniemi is also the “official home of Santa Claus”.But changing climate is threatening its tourism industry.A report by The Finnish Climate Change Panel warns of flooding and increased rainfall, with Rovaniemi most at risk.Firms that rely on snow “will have great effects on visit levels” and these industries may be forced further north.
Erkkila of the Arctic Husky Park in Rovaniemi says:“Tourists see pictures of the Santa Claus village covered in snow and when they get here they think,‘Is this the winter wonderland?’” The Husky Park bought a wheeled cart(马车) six years ago as a replacement for sleigh rides when the snow fails.
In the past it was thought the Arctic was warming twice as fast as the rest of the world. But a report published last week by scientists showed the rate is actually four times the global average.

With travel on the rise, more families are planning to take their home life on the road, whether it’s for a weekend or a longer trip.Traveling with kids can be stressful—with all those suitcases and cries of “Are we there yet?” 36
Involving(使参与) young children in planning a trip might sound silly, but it’s far more valuable than it seems.“You shouldn’t expect a 4-year-old kid to spend eight hours in museums,”says Jason,a family travel researcher.“It’s really smart for parents to think like a kid. 37 ” That attitude helps parents avoid terrible situations that may ruin the day.
38 If a little one is into dinosaurs, perhaps you’ll want to check out a city’s Natural History Museum. If they love animals, maybe there’s a way to include a visit to a farm or an aquarium(水族馆).
One of Jason’s favourite ways to get younger kids excited about a trip is reading.“Books are perfect for little armchair travellers,” he says.“ 39 ” Before a recent trip to Puerto Rico,Jason read his kids a book about a frog native to the island.Afterwards, his daughters got really excited to hear this little frog singing at night.
People often think the trip is going to be one memorable worthy moment after another, but that never happens. 40 When kids are involved, they can become invested in getting through those problems. They also learn to work things out together as a family.
A.Most children really enjoy challenges.
B.Actually,no family trip goes without problems.
C.However,it can also be a highly meaningful activity.
D.That way,we’re getting more of that local experience.

THE TEACHER’S HAND
Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment—to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.
Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her students’ art.And they were.
But Douglas made a different kind of picture.Douglas was a different kind of boy.He was the teacher’s true child of misery, weakness and unhappiness. His father died in a car accident and the driver never turned up yet. When first introduced to the teacher, the tiny shy boy greeted her in a timid tone, with his head down. She felt as if her heart was broken when he hesitated back and forth, glancing now and then at other kids playing games. She promised that she would help him out.As other children played on the playground,Douglas was likely to stand close by her side, one hand in hers. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt behind those sad eyes.
Yes,his picture was different. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful,he drew a hand.Nothing else.Just an empty hand.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下在答题纸的相应位置作答。
His abstract image attracted the imagination of his classmates.
When the children had gone on to other assignments, she paused at Douglas’ desk, bent down, and asked him whose hand it was.

第一节 参考范文
Dear Jim,
I’m happy to receive your letter and know you’re coming to China.
Of the two trips to the Yangtze River and Mount Tai,both are highly recommended.Personally,I prefer the tour along the Yangtze River, the longest river in China and one of the mother rivers of Chinese civilization. You can learn a lot about the history of China and Chinese people from it.Moreover, the scenery along the river is amazing, with many well-known sightseeing spots. That’s why I think the trip along the Yangtze River will be a better choice.
Hope that you’ll have a good time in China.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
His abstract image attracted the imagination of his classmates.Whose hand could it be One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raised turkeys.Another suggested it was the hand of a police officer, because the police protected and cared for people.Still others guessed it was the hand of Douglas’ mother, for his mother gave birth to him and fed him.And so the discussion went—until the teacher almost forgot the young artist himself.
When the children had gone on to other assignments, she paused at Douglas’ desk, bent down, and asked him whose hand it was.The little boy looked away and murmured,“It’s yours, teacher.” Feeling surprised, she called up the times she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there,as she had the other students. How often had she said,“Take my hand,Douglas,we’ll go outside.” Or,“Let me show you how to hold your pencil.” Or,“Let’s do this together.” Douglas was most grateful to his teacher’s hand.Brushing aside her tears, she went on with her work.
