Sharon,Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself.Besides,I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank,Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both anxious and excited before their first day.You will probably love it.I know I did.You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable.Good luck!
Eddie,Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been home-schooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone.I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
David,Aged 19
I am not going to lie.The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it.Don’t be afraid of anyone;upperclassmen will pick on(欺负) you more if you let them know you’re afraid.Just take it easy.Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all.Don’t worry.

“I’m going to fail!”My best friend cried. She and I had this conversation almost every day while we were in high school.
The truth was that my friend never failed in any subjects.I just think that she can’t accept failures because she lives her life as a perfectionist(完美主义者).What she fails to understand is that a lot of good can come from failures.
For example, failure can help build relationships.Once I was cooking dinner for a friend,I was tired, and several dishes I tried to make turned out bad.I grew more and more upset until my friend told me that I shouldn’t worry. She cared more about our friendship than the dishes. That day,I learned that failure doesn’t always make people dislike you.In fact, after she said those words to me,I grew closer to her.
Failure can make success ever more exciting.Every few years, there would be an important test in the PE class at our school.Students had to run a mile within eight minutes.I was never good at running,so I failed every time until the third year at school. Then I began working out regularly, and yet I still failed that year.A few days later, however, the teacher gave me and some other students another chance to run and I got a pass finally! You can’t imagine how excited I was after that.I felt the memory of the success was as sweet as honey, because I had to overcome failure to reach it.
Now it’s clear to see that failure can teach us good lessons. It’s not an end—it can be a beginning.
24.What can we learn about the author’s best friend from the first two paragraphs
A.She liked taking tests. B.She was afraid of failures.

25.What did the author finally get from a failed cooking
A.A closer friendship. B.Worries.
C.Bad feelings. D.More experience.
26.Why did the author feel excited after the running test
A.Because she could work out regularly.
B.Because she received honey as a reward.
C.Because she got another chance to take the test.
D.Because she achieved success after many failures.
27.Why did the author write this passage
A.To show the negative effects of failures.
B.To point out her best friends fear of failures.
C.To encourage the readers to face failures bravely.
D.To introduce different types of failures.
C
Do you often listen to music at loud volumes(音量)?Over one billion young people are at risk of hearing loss(失聪) because of listening to loud noise for long periods of time.Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes is harmful to your hearing.
The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 decibels(dB分贝) for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB.
Loud noise is harmful to the inner ears(内耳).Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells(听毛细胞) in our inner ears. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss.
Some people might think that their music isn’t all that loud. But this can depend on where you are.For example,if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it.Later, when you listen to it at the same volume in a quiet place, you might feel uncomfortable.
The World Health Organization said the “safe level” for most sounds is below 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week.A level of 80 dB is roughly equal to the noise of a subway.
28.Why are many young people at risk of hearing loss

It’s important for children to take part in social activities during their summer holidays.“Kids should have a break during the summer. They’ve worked hard during the school year and this is their time to relax, but they should continue communicating with their friends and meeting new people,” said Dr.Jin Han.He’s a professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Spending time with friends and meeting new people by doing fun and educational activities such as music, arts and sports programs in summer help with their development.“If children spend a lot of time alone on their electronic equipment, then they will fail to communicate with others,” Han said.“In today’s world,it’s very easy for kids to stay indoors all day and keep in touch with others, but that is not a good way to connect with others.Face-to-face communication is necessary and important.Parents should restrict the time their children spend on electronic equipment. For example, the time they spend on their phones cannot be more than one hour a day.”
It’s also important for children to spend quality time with their parents and sisters or brothers.“It’s not the length of time, but the quality of time that families spend together that is really valuable,” Han said.“This type of communication is not something that you can get from anywhere else.It doesn’t matter how old the child is,because family bonding(人与人之间的关系) experiences can happen at any time.”
Having children spend time with friends and families doesn’t have to spend money in the wallet, either. For example, going to the neighborhood swimming pool or having a picnic is a great way to spend quality time together.
32.What does Dr.Jin Han think about the summer holidays according to the first paragraph
A.It is necessary for children to have a rest during summer holidays.
B.Children should relax as much as possible during summer holidays.
C.Making new friends in summer holidays is difficult for children.
D.Children should prepare for schoolwork in summer holidays.

A.Increase. B.Control. C.Spend. D.Employ.

C.When to spend time with families makes a difference.
D.How to enjoy the time with families is of great importance.
35.What is the main idea of the text
A.The importance of friends and families.
B.The introduction to some social activities.
C.The suitable ways to spend summer holidays.
D.The necessity of face-to-face communication.

第一节 参考范文
Dear Henry,
I am glad to hear that you get on very well with your maths teacher,Mr Green. Now I’d like to tell you about my favourite teacher. Mr Gao is my physics teacher. He is the best teacher I have ever had.He is patient and friendly but sometimes strict, too. He can make his lessons lively and interesting.Going to his lessons is something we look forward to.
Physics is not my favourite subject and I find physics is much harder in Senior High school than in Junior High school.I almost wanted to give up.Mr Gao gave me some advice on how to improve my physics. He even often helps me in his spare time. Now my physics is improving and I have become more confident! I think I am really lucky to have him as my physics teacher.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
Just at that moment, many memories came back into my mind. When I was ill,she was always the one taking care of me.When I had trouble with my study, she never lost faith in me and encouraged me to keep going. When I arrived home during the weekend, she always prepared my favourite food. All her kindness came back to me.I should be grateful for all she had done for me.I realized that I should return home immediately and say sorry to my mother.
When arriving home,I saw my mother sitting at the dinner table, worried and tired. She must have been looking for me everywhere.I was ready for her anger and shouts. However, before I could apologize,my mother saw me and gently said:“Oh,honey, thank God,you’re back! Come inside. You are probably very hungry I cooked your favorite e and eat while they are still hot...” No longer able to control myself,I cried in her arms.“I ’m sorry, mom, please forgive me.” I whispered to her through tears, extremely ashamed of myself.
