第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分 50 分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
While some extreme diets may suggest otherwise,we all need a balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals in our diets to keep a healthy body. You don’t need to remove certain kinds of foods from your diet, but rather select the healthiest ones.
Protein
Protein gives us the energy to get up and go—and keep going—while also supporting mood and cognitive function(认知功能).Too much protein can be harmful to people with kidney disease, but the latest research suggests that many of us need more high-quality protein, especially as we age. That doesn’t mean you have to eat more animal products—a variety of plant-based sources of protein each day can ensure your body gets all the necessary protein it needs.
Fat
Not all fat is the same. While bad fat can destroy your diet and increase the possibility of certain diseases, good fat protects your brain and heart. In fact, healthy fat—such as omega-3s—is necessary to your physical and emotional health.Understanding how to include more healthy fat in your diet can help improve your mood and your well-beings.
Fiber
Eating foods high in dietary fiber(grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, and beans) can help you stay regular and lower the possibility of heart disease, strokes, and diabetes. It can also improve your skin and even help you to lose weight. Depending on your age and gender, experts suggest you eat at least 21 to 38 grams of fiber each day.
Calcium(钙)
Your body uses calcium to build healthy bones and teeth, keep them strong, send messages through the nervous system, and control the heart’s rhythm. Not getting enough calcium in your diet can also lead to anxiety, depression, and sleep difficulties.Whatever your age or gender,it’s necessary to include calcium-rich foods in your diet.
21.What can we know about protein from the second paragraph
A.The animal products provide more protein.
B.We should have less protein when we get older.
C.Protein can improve a person’s mood.
D.We should have as much protein as possible.

23.What’s the effect of shortage of calcium
A.People may have trouble with sleep.
B.People may become older easily.
C.People may have the risk of kidney disease.
D.People may gain weight quickly in a short time.

We greet people we know and people we don’t know.Doctor Aka stopped and gave greetings to the men sitting along the way.Ayah and I came to a little store to buy bread and candies. It wouldn’t do to arrive at the joy empty-handed.
It’s the end of my 7-month stay in an Uzbek village teaching English and I was walking down the dirt roads with my host parents—Doctor Aka and Nurse Ayah.We drew close to a relative’s house,Shakhnoza Sister’s,whose children we love.“Let’s see the baby.We can’t just go by without seeing the little Kyrgyz(吉尔吉斯斯坦人),” laughed the Doctor. It’s his personal joke to call the lovely baby a Kyrgyz.
We then continued our joy. There are endless occasions to throw party in this village.Birthdays, weddings, buying a car,a holiday—all call for throwing a party. The occasion in this evening was the return of a relative and his wife from working in Russia.Ayah and I joined the women in their separate place. All the aunts were present. We enjoyed Russian chocolate, drank green tea, told stories, tasted Osh—a rice dish of Central Asia.
My departure(离开) in a few weeks was now a main topic: we were planning to have a good-bye party,to cry,to keep in touch by Skype, and for me to invite them to my wedding. The last blessing was given by the oldest person present. We headed out the gate amid “Bye,Cathy! Come again!” “Okay! Come to our house next time!” ...
Seven months ago I didn’t know these people or their language.I didn’t know that I would visit from place to place and find them just that joy.

BBYY,as the adult female was known, made a wild dash of more than 388 kilometers in 49 days—the longest distance ever recorded among hares, rabbits or any other relatives—researchers report online December 22 in Ecology.
“To think that such a small animal living under such extreme conditions averaged about eight kilometers per day across seven weeks is truly amazing,” says Joel Berger,a scientist at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
Arctic hares, also known as North-Pole hares—which weigh more or less the same as house cats, about four kilograms—are desirable targets for foxes and wolves on the tundra(苔原).Given the hares’ important role in the Arctic food chain, scientist Dominique Berteaux wanted to know how the animals move across the dry landscape where very few plants can grow.
In 2019,Berteaux and colleagues fixed satellite tracking rings on 25 hares caught near the northern tip of Ellesmere Island in Nunavut,Canada. As the hares quickly ran away, the researchers had no idea the creatures were beginning a mind-blowing journey across the tundra,Berteaux says. That’s because hares and their relatives typically spend their lives within a familiar area where food is plentiful and easy to find.
The Arctic hares behaved quite differently, with most traveling anywhere between 113 and 310 kilometers.None came close to BBYY,who died of unknown causes about a month after reaching her final destination.
For a hare to complete such a dangerous journey,it must balance the need to find food without becoming food, says Dennis Murray,a scientist. That makes BBYY’s adventure even more impressive,he says.
Berteaux and colleagues hope data from BBYY and the other hares can help shape conservation strategies for the desert system near the North Pole. But even at this early stage,it’s exciting to find “something unknown in an animal that we thought we knew quite well,” Berteaux says.
28.Why did Berteaux and colleagues do research on Arctic hares
A.Because of their amazing ability to travel a long distance.
B.Because of their weighing more or less the same as house cats.
C.Because of their important role in the Arctic food chain.
D.Because of their extreme living conditions.
29.What does the underlined word “mind-blowing” in the fourth paragraph mean
A.Amazing. B.Disappointing.
C.Demanding. D.Upsetting.
30.What do we know about BBYY
A.BBYY was an adult male with the longest distance record among hares.
B.BBYY died of tiredness from traveling the longest distance.
C.BBYY,like other Arctic hares, typically lived within a familiar area.
D.BBYY managed to balance the need to find food without becoming food.
31.What can we infer from the text
A.The findings of Berteaux and colleagues are good for nothing.
B.The findings of Berteaux and colleagues just confirm what people believe about hares.
C.Berteaux and colleagues have discovered an unknown species—Arctic hares.
D.Berteaux and colleagues will go on with their research on Arctic hares.

Adults who had close contact with natural spaces during their childhood could have a better mental health than those who had less contact, according to a new study by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health(IS Global),an institution supported by “la Calxa,” involving four European cities.
The all-adult study gave 3,600 participants a questionnaire on how frequently they used natural spaces during childhood—for example, playing in a garden, riding a bike at the park or hiking in a forest. They were also asked about the importance they put on using such places.
Volunteers were then given a psychological test, which included a variety of questionnaires and problem-solving activities,to analyze their nervousness and feelings of depression within a four-week period.
The results consistently showed that the people who were more exposed to natural spaces had higher mental health scores compared to those with lower childhood exposure—as did those who attached higher importance to using green spaces.
The study’s coordinator(协调员),Wilma Zijlema, wrote that the results “show the importance of childhood exposure to natural spaces for the development of a nature-appreciating attitude and a healthy psychological state in adulthood”.She also stressed the importance of “recognizing the meaning of growing up in environments with limited opportunities for exposure to nature”.
According to the study,73 percent of Europe’s population only has limited access to natural spaces.Mark Nieuwenhuijsen, director of IS Global’s Urban Planning, said that “Many children in Europe lead an indoors lifestyle,so it would be desirable to make natural outdoor environments available, attractive and safe for them to play in.We make a call on policymakers to improve the availability of natural spaces for children and green school yards.”
While this study was based in Europe,a lack of green space can affect anyone, anywhere. So remember to make time to immerse yourself in nature,as your mental health is just as important as the physical one.
32.What can we learn about the study according to paragraph 1
A.It was carried out only in four European cities.
B.It is supported by all the adults who are physically healthy.
C.It indicates the more contact with nature, the happier one’s childhood will be.
D.It shows adulthood mental health could be related to childhood exposure to nature.
33.What do we know about the study
A.The participants were from all over the world.
B.The participants included both children and adults.
C.It focused on the participants’ physical health state.
D.It consisted of a questionnaire and a psychological test.

B.The method of the study.
C.The value of the study.
D.The difficulties of the study.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title of the passage

“Grandpa was never one to follow a recipe,” Dad entered the kitchen and said.

That gave her an idea.Alexis hurried to the bookcase and found an old photo album. She immediately flipped it open, expecting to find clues in the photos there.Lots of photos showed Grandpa and Grandma cooking together.Dad laughed,“He and Grandma loved to tease each other but he always called her Honey.”

第一节 参考范文
Dear Schoolmates,
I’m Li Hua,chairman of the Student Council. With the intention of raising students’ awareness of having a healthy lifestyle, our campus is launching a campaign with the theme of “Eat organic food and live a healthy life”.
As we can see, there exists a common phenomenon that students on our campus tend to eat chemical food instead of organic food due to its low price and availability. However, there is no denying that the long-term use of chemical food where chemical remains exist has a poor effect on both our health and the environment. Therefore,it is of vital importance to switch to organic food, which may alleviate the damage to our health as well as the surroundings, contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
Hence, for the sake of your own health and a more harmonious world,I am standing here, appealing for your active participation in this campaign.Only through our joint efforts can we make a difference to the world.
Yours,
Li Hua

It looked like Grandpa was crying in the photo.Crying! Yes,the secret was about crying! Grandpa once said with wet eyes that the potato salad definitely brought tears to his eyes.It seemed that Alexis found out the final secret ingredient.Full of hope in her eyes, she quickly rushed to the cabinet and grabbed an onion. Then, delighted and expected, she cut the onion with tears in her eyes. Finally, she added the onions into the salad and mixed it,her palms getting sweaty.Heart raising, she held the salad to her family and waited for their try.
With hesitation, the family tasted the potato salad with onions in it.Nodding their heads at the same time, smile flickered across everyone’s face. They eventually figured out Grandpa’s recipe. Finally,Alexis completed the salad and took part in the contest. As the result that Alexis’ potato salad won was announced,Alexis was thinking about Grandpa, her tears welling up uncontrollably. She hugged the Golden Potato to her chest and wore a shining smile, saying, “Just because of the onions.” It’s not only a recipe for delicious food but also a recipe for a happy family.
