Steve was the most amazing person in all of Minneapolis, and he was my cousin. At the age of 19,Steve was a star baseball player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be exactly like him. So when Steve asked me to go with him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota,I was excited!
After planning the trip,we gathered clothes and supplies, and began our great adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota by early evening. On our way to the campsite,Steve pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station (护林站) where the forester worked.
Finally, after a long walk,we reached the campsite and set up the camp as the sun was setting. Steve knew all the tricks of an experienced wilderness camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest,he started the campfire using only stone and steel—no matches. For supper we feasted on freeze-dried beef, wild rice and pea soup. I ate greedily after all that work.
Tired enough,we climbed into our sleeping bags early and talked about our plans for fishing the next day. We were still talking quietly when a sudden north wind picked up;the temperature dropped and it began to snow. Steve found a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the forest to the opposite side of the campfire. Then he wrapped aluminum foil (铝箔) around the log. The heat from the fire was reflected by the foil and went into the tent. Soon images of lake fish were filling my dreams.
The snow had stopped, but sometime later a powerful wind must have kicked up the flames of our dying fire. I was suddenly awakened by Steve. Our tent was on fire. Frightened,I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed (倒塌) with Steve inside. Without any thought of endangering myself,I reached into the burning tent and pulled him to the icy lake. Fortunately,we were not seriously hurt.

Later,as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm,we considered our difficult situation. Our campsite was in the deep of the forest, really far away from the highway. We were in the middle of nowhere, wearing only underwear, with our supplies burnt into ashes, including our cell phones. Even Steve was unsure of what to do next. The only thing we could do was just sit in the cold air and wonder how to get out of the forest.
Suddenly,we heard a noise in the forest. Anxiously we listened and stared into the darkness. A jeep appeared. A forester spotted the light from the fire and came to have a check. We jumped into the warm vehicle and the forester drove us to the ranger station, where we were given clothes and were able to call our parents. Steve and I had many more camping adventures from then on,but it was on this trip that Steve began to treat me more like a friend rather than a younger cousin. Our friendship continues to this day.

A mirror coated in red paint,a banana stuck to the wall with tape, and an unseen sculpture—these are just a few of the abstract artworks that have recently sold for surprising amounts. Now,Dutch artist Jens Haaning has taken the genre to a whole new level. His appropriately named TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN masterpiece, consisting of two empty frames, has set a local museum back $84,000!
Earlier this year, the Kunsten Museum in Aalborg appointed Haaning to create two pieces for their coming“Work It Out” exhibit. According to their written agreement, the artist would use the $84,000 lent to him by the museum to reproduce two of his previous artworks about labour. The first,An Average Austrian Year Income, displayed euro bills on a canvas in a framework, while the second, focusing on Danish incomes, did the same using krone notes. But when the museum opened the boxes the artist sent before the exhibit's opening on September 24,2021,they found two blank frameworks titled TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN.
The museum officials admit that Haaning's artwork is unique. But museum director Lasse Andersson expects the artist to fulfill his contractual(合同的) duty and return the money when the exhibition ends.“I absolutely want to give Haaning the right to say that a new work has been created in its own right,” Andersson told Danish radio.“But that is not the agreement we had.”
However,Haaning thinks his artwork is perfect for the exhibit, which examines the relationship between art and labour. He argues that the empty canvases stressed the unfair working conditions of many artists, including himself. He says the museum's pay for the artworks was not even enough to cover his costs.“The work is that I have taken their money,” he told Danish radio.“It's not theft. It is breach(违背) of contract, and breach of contract is part of the work.”

Chinese painters painted on various materials in many formats. The most popular materials with the earliest artists were wood and bamboo but then the following were adopted:plastered walls, silk, and paper. Canvas would only be used widely from the 8th century CE. Brushes were made from animal hair, cut to a tapering end and tied to a bamboo or wood handle. Significantly, they were precisely the same instruments used by the calligrapher. The inks used were made from rubbing a dried cake of animal or vegetable matter mixed with minerals and glue against a wet stone. Each artist had to laboriously(辛苦地) make their own inks as there was no commercial production of them.
The two most popular themes of Chinese painting were portraits and landscapes. Portraits in Chinese art began in the Warring States Period and were traditionally rendered with great restraint, usually because the subject was a great scholar, monk or court official and so should,by definition, have a good moral character which should be portrayed with respect by the artist. For this reason, faces are often seemingly impassive(面无表情的) with only the merest hint of emotion or character subtly expressed. Often the character of the subject is much more clearly expressed in their attitude and relationship to other people in the picture;this is especially true of portraits of emperors and Buddhist figures.
Landscape painting had been around as long as artists had,but the genre really took off during the Tang Dynasty when artists became much more concerned with humanity's place in nature. Typically, small human figures guide the viewer through a panoramic(全景的) landscape of mountains and rivers in Tang paintings. It should be no surprise that mountains and water dominated landscape painting as the very word in Chinese for landscape translates literally as“mountain-and-water”. Trees and rocks are also featured and the whole scene is usually meant to capture a particular season of the year. Colours were limited in use, either everything in various shades of a single colour (illustrating the roots in calligraphy) or two colours combined, usually blues and greens.

WINNING
Tom Perry concentrated hard. The rocket competition would begin shortly. He had never lost a contest, but that didn't calm him.Tom glanced at the other rockets. They all had their own problems. One rocket, however, caught his eye. It's perfect in every aspect. His critical eye detected that this rocket could beat his.It belonged to a newcomer — Ed.Suddenly,Ed turned, his sight pausing on Tom's rocket.Admiring it for a while,he then gave Tom a thumbs-up with a smile.
The announcer began to explain the competition.Tom barely listened; he couldn't help but repeatedly look over to Ed's rocket.
Suddenly his heart did a leap.Tom knew that Ed had no chance of winning. He had noticed that as Ed lifted his rocket to place it on the launch pad,one fin (翼) had caught against something on the ground, pulling it away from the rocket and making it loose. But Ed hadn't noticed. He glanced back at Tom and gave another thumbs-up sign.Tom felt sorry but decided he wasn't going to destroy a sure win by saying anything.Anyway,it was up to Ed to keep checking his rocket.
The contest began. Most gained respectable heights but none exceeded (超过)1,000 feet.Tom watched, but the problems the others had didn't make him feel good. For the first time the looks on their faces bothered him.
Tom thought about the loose fin of Ed's rocket, wondering if he should say something. He was lost in thought and didn't hear his name being called. When it was repeated,it shocked him.He moved to the pad. With a shaky hand,he connected the wires to the igniter (点火器).Stepping back to the firing board,he took a deep breath and pushed the button. His rocket climbed wonderfully to a height of
1,100 feet.As he ran out into the field to pick up his rocket,he heard Ed's name being announced.

2.请按如下格式作答。

The figure of 1,150 feet came as a shock to Tom.____________

[参考范文]
Ed lifted his rocket and approached the launch area. Tom watched as Ed carefully placed his rocket on the launch pad making sure everything was in place. As Ed stepped back and prepared to push the button,Tom's heart raced. He knew that the loose fin could cause the rocket to veer off course, potentially causing it to crash. He couldn't bear the thought of Ed losing because of a simple mistake that he had noticed but hadn't mentioned. In a split second decision,Tom called out to Ed,warning him about the loose fin.Ed quickly checked his rocket and fixed the fin just in time. The rocket soared into the sky, reaching an amazing height.
The figure of 1,150 feet came as a shock to Tom.He had been so sure that his rocket would be the highest, but Ed's rocket had surpassed his by fifty feet.Tom felt a mix of emotions—disappointment at not winning, but also a sense of pride for doing the right thing by helping Ed.As the crowd cheered for Ed's victory,Ed excitedly ran towards Tom and hugged him tightly, tears of gratitude streaming down.At that moment,Tom realized that winning wasn't everything. He had gained something much more valuable—the respect of his peers and the satisfaction of knowing he had helped someone else succeed. From that day on,Tom made a promise to himself to always be a good sport, whether he won or lost.
