This is not a diet. It's a simple way to lose weight. You don't have to give up the food you love or join a gym. You just need to follow some habits thin people have. Keep them, and you'll become thin.
Wake up
When you wake up in the morning, sit up slowly without using your hands. With legs straight out, lean forward(前俯) until you feel sore(酸痛的) in your back. It will use up to 10 calories.
Start with soup
Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food. In this way, you'll feel fuller, so you'll eat less when the main food comes.
An apple (or more) a day
Apples are full of fiber(纤维素) and water, so your stomach will want less. Studies show that people who eat at least three apples or pears a day may lose weight.
Stand up and walk around
Every time you use the cellphone, stand up and walk around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more each day than thin people. This habit is very important because standing up and walking around will burn up 50 or more calories.
Use these habits, and you will have a big weight loss.

In the last 20 years, the number of overweight children has increased by more than 50%. About 25% to 30% of school age children in the United States are obese, which puts them at a high risk of heart disease and other health problems.
According to the experts, poor eating habits and inactivity are the root causes of childhood obesity. In addition, the high level of fat calories in the average American diet is leading to the rapid increase in childhood obesity.
If a child is more than 40% overweight, a scientific weight loss program may be suggested to change the child's eating behaviors. During the course of the program, the emphasis should be on developing a healthier lifestyle in the long term, not just on losing weight at present. Children are developing physically and mentally, and they need enough nutrition as they grow. A healthy diet combined with exercise is the best way to achieve a healthy level of body fat.
Dr. Gidding, a professor at Yale University, explains that many children or teens tend to become overweight because of too many calories and too little exercise. “If your child tends to sit around and watch television or play video games, try gently introducing more physical activities into your family life,” suggests Dr. Gidding. “Take a walk together or go for a bike ride. Make good nutrition and exercise a family affair by planning low fat meals, nutritious snacks and family activities.”

Teenagers, who talk on the cellphone a lot and hold their phones up to their right ears, score worse on one type of memory test. That's the finding of a new study. That memory impairment might be one side effect of the radiation(放射线) that phones use to keep us connected while we're on the go.
The teens took memory tests twice, one year apart. Nearly 700 Swiss teens took part in a test of figural memory. This type helps us remember abstract(抽象的) symbols and shapes, explains Milena Foerster. Each time, they had one minute to remember 13 pairs of abstract shapes. Then they were shown one item from each pair and asked to match it with one of the five choices. The study volunteers also took a test of verbal memory. That's the ability to remember words. The two memory tests are part of an intelligence test.
The researchers also surveyed the teens on how they use cellphones. And they got call records from phone companies. The researchers used those records to figure out how long the teens were using their phones. This allowed the researchers to work out how big radiation exposure(接触) each person could have got while talking.
A phone user's exposure to the radiation can differ widely. Some teens talk on their phones more than others. People also hold their phones differently. If the phone is close to the ear, more radiation may enter the body, Foerster notes.
The teens' scores in the figural memory tests were roughly the same from one year to the next. But those who normally held their phones near the right ears and who were also exposed to higher levels of radiation scored a little bit worse after a year. No group of teens showed big changes on the verbal memory test. Why might one type of memory be linked to cellphone use, but not another Foerster thinks it could have to do with where different memory centres sit in the brain. The site that deals with the ability to remember shapes is near the right ear.

D. The teens' ability of remembering words is shown in figural memory test.
( )10. According to the study, teens who use their phones to their right ears a lot do worse in ________.
A. matching numbers B. reading signals
C. remembering shapes D. learning words
( )11. Which of the following is the best title for the text

Nearly 1 in 10 adolescent girls have used non prescription(非处方类的) pills to lose weight, according to new research. The research noted that teenage girls are the most likely group to use these so called weight loss aids, and pointed out that these trends—and the mindset driving them—increase the risks of eating disorders and overall harm to physical and mental health.
Nichole Kelly, a scientist who specializes in eating behaviors and body image beliefs, said that adolescence(青春期) is a particularly vulnerable time for young people seeking out weight loss measures. Girls are going through adolescence, which means increases in fat mass in girls' bodies. This age is also marked by an increase in the importance of the opinion of peers, who are often really cruel towards bigger bodies. Weight and appearance are the top reasons kids are bullied(霸凌) at school. So it's not surprising that there are high levels of weight loss supplement(补充剂) use in adolescents and in girls in particular.
The role of social media is especially crucial in understanding how young people are understanding their bodies. “If you open up any social media platform and do any sort of quick search for content related to weight loss or related to health and wellness, you'll very quickly come across advertisements for weight loss supplements,” Kelly said. “I think that the weight loss supplement industry has really taken advantage of the way that social media allow content and posts to be spread so quickly.”
“Most people assume that these products are natural, safe, and effective when the research evidence shows that none of those things are true,” Kelly said. She stressed that these products can actively cause harm. The lack of regulation(监管) of the weight loss supplement industry means that some products have dangerous chemical substances.
( )12. Who are most likely to take weight loss pills according to new research
A. Teenage girls. B. Teenage boys.
C. Adult females. D. Adult males.
( )13. What does the author think of the girls wanting to lose weight
A. They have poor self respect.
B. They are hard to understand.
C. They suffer from peer pressure.
D. They are influenced by families.
( )14. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3
A. Social media spread content quickly.
B. Social media help improve one's body image.
C. Social media are full of weight loss supplement ads.
D. Social media popularize weight loss supplements.
( )15. What can we learn about weight loss supplements from Paragraph 4
A. They are well regulated.
B. They are free from harmful chemicals.
C. They work as well as prescription drugs.
D. They may be harmful despite being marketed as safe.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Want to go to the pool tomorrow?” Rosa asked Stephanie during recess. The pool at the YMCA was one of their favorite places, where they learnt and practiced swimming.
Rosa and Stephanie did everything together. They rode the school bus together. They sat together during lunch. They took dance lessons together and they even went to the same summer camp. Their classmates called them “twins”. They were best friends. Most of the time.
Sometimes, though, when Stephanie was with other friends, she ignored Rosa or treated her like a little kid, even though they were the same age. Rosa and Stephanie had played together since they were babies, but sometimes Stephanie didn't act like a friend.
Today was one of those times.
“Sorry. I'm already going to the pool,” Stephanie said. “Toni and Vanessa and I are going.” She gave a broad smile, but in Rosa's eyes, it wasn't her nice smile. Saying nothing more, she walked straight away to join Toni and Vanessa, and Rosa was left standing alone, with her face burning and angry tension coming into her limbs.
After school, at dance class, Stephanie talked and giggled with the other dancers as they stretched in front of the mirror. When Rosa came in, Stephanie didn't say hello to her—she just smiled at her instead. Rosa hesitated for a while about whether she should join them, but she still felt too upset.
Then she noticed Kiara, the new girl. Rosa joined her and began stretching too. Kiara smiled and Rosa smiled back. The two girls began to talk. Rosa discovered that Kiara was not the quiet girl she had thought she was. Kiara talked a lot—about her little brother, about the tree house her uncle had built and even about swimming. “I love swimming,” Kiara said. “I will hold a pool party at the YMCA. Would you like to come?” “Yes. It's awesome,” Rosa responded. She tried not to check the mirror to see if Stephanie had noticed. She hoped Stephanie felt left out.

After_the_dance_class,_when_Rosa_boarded_the_bus,_Stephanie_was_waiting_in_their_usual_seat. Seeing Rosa, Stephanie quickly moved her backpack off the seat to make room for her. But Rosa walked past and slid into the empty seat next to Kiara. They were talking about the pool party when Stephanie went over. “Do you still want to go swimming tonight?” Stephanie asked. “I'm already going,”Rosa smiled and said without looking up. “Kiara and I are going together.” Stephanie nodded and looked at her feet.
When_Rosa_saw_Stephanie_in_low_spirits,_her_heart_sank. Getting even didn't feel the way she had expected. She could walk away with her new friend and not look back. But when she saw Stephanie's watery eyes, her heart beat painfully. “Maybe we could all go together,”Rosa said. Stephanie's face lit up. “I'm sorry for ignoring you. Thank you for your tolerance,”Stephanie said. Rosa gave her a hug and said, “I was too sensitive. Thank you for your tolerance too.” The two girls smiled at each other, which was their nice smile.
