参考范文:
Seeing that,Mr Brown got an idea to help his students. He suggested the class start a
new habit:using the last ten minutes of every Friday to share study methods, not ready
answers.Alex stopped just lending out his notes and instead taught everyone how to make
mind maps and list key points.Jane organized small group quizzes to ensure everyone truly
understood the material They also began holding study sessions where everyone could ask
questions and explain topics to each other.
After the final exam, the class average went up by a whole grade.More importantly,
everyone felt the satisfaction of "doing it yourself".They knew they had learned something
valuable-not just physics, but how to learn.Mr Brown, standing at the edge of the
platform, smiled slightly-a rare sight. He had once again shown the students with "tough
love"that knowledge belongs to those willing to dig for it themselves. The class knew they
would carry this lesson into all their future studies.重庆市万州区部分学校高三英语考试

Extremely long books are known as"doorstoppers" due to their weight. With the rise of self-publishing, it's impossible to list every new long book. This list may not be complete, but it includes three of the longest English novels.
Clarissa by Samuel Richardson
It's generally considered one of the longest English books with over 950,000 words.Published in 1747 and 1748, it consists of letters written by a fictional young woman namedClarissa Harlowe and various other characters. Clarissa often appears on lists of the best novels in history, although Britannica calls it a book that is more talked about than read. And with about 1,500 pages, depending on the edition(版本), it's easy to see why!
Sironia, Texas by Madison Cooper
With around 840,000 words, it's not surprising that it took the author 11 years to write this book before its release in 1952. Divided into two volumes(卷), the story takes place in the town of Sironia, which is believed to be based on Cooper's home city of Waco, Texas and the real people who lived there in the first two decades of the 20th century. Although it was a bestseller for 11 weeks, some said this book was famous for its length and not its content.
Poor Fellow My Country by Xavier Herbert
Published in 1975, this is a story of three persons who are not accepted by other people,in the north of Australia. It won an award on its release, and was translated into Japanese three years later. And unlike the two previous books on this list, Herbert's was published as one volume with 850,000 words and more than 1,400 pages!
21. What is a feature of Clarissa
A. It includes fictional letters. B. It's based on real events.
C. It consists of three volumes. D. It's about three abandoned men.
22. Who wrote a book based on his own hometown
A. Clarissa Harlowe. B. Samuel Richardson.
C. Madison Cooper. D. Xavier Herbert.
23. What do we know about the last book
A. It has ever won a prize.
B. It has a debate on its word count.
C. It was written in different languages.
D. It's about three outcasts living in Austria.

I had studied civil engineering at college. Growing up in an impoverished rural area, Iwas fascinated by architecture in cities, and I hoped to design buildings myself someday. However, as my degree progressed, I became interested in research and wanted to continue my academic journey. I wasn't sure what to study at first. Then the flood came, and it all became clear.
After spending much of my summer volunteering in affected communities, I decided to focus my career on natural disasters, exploring the various factors behind them, as well as their impacts on society. As a first step, I applied for a master's program in development studies——a multidisciplinary(多门学科的) program that included coursework in sustainable development, geography, and economics, as well as hands-on community projects.
This decision shocked my friends and family. Relatives kept asking my parents why I was leaving engineering to study social sciences. They warned my parents, who only have a primary education, that this path might make it hard for me, their only son, to find a job. However, I was determined and went ahead with what I thought was right for me.
The program, which exposed me to projects that helped communities plan for climate change and other troubles, convinced me I was on the right path. I was excited to start the program and be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the country. Sharing what I' ve learned with people in my community has also given me satisfaction.
There have been challenges along the way, but the opportunity to dig into an issue I care so passionately about and try to help people makes it all worthwhile. Above all, my journey has taught me that it's OK to follow my heart, even when the path seems unconventional.
24. What motivated the author to shift his academic focus
A. A natural disaster experience.
B. Exposure to urban architecture.
C. A great deal of pressure from his family.
D. Financial difficulties in his hometown.
25. What was the author's relatives' attitude to his decision
A. Supportive. B. Appreciative. C. Disapproving. D. Unemotional.
26. How did the program affect the author
A. It made him question his career choice.
B. It strengthened his decision to change fields.
C. It convinced him to switch back to engineering.
D. It discouraged him from continuing his studies.
27. Which words can best describe the author
A. Hesitant but passionate. B. Cautious but interesting.
C. Determined and passionate. D. Conventional and cautious.

Humans, it turns out, are better than current AI models at describing and interpreting social interactions in a moving scene—— skills necessary for self-driving cars, assistive robots, and other technologies that rely on AI systems to navigate(导航) the real world.
The research, led by scientists at Johns Hopkins University, finds that AI systems fail at understanding social dynamics and context necessary for interacting with people and suggests the problem may be rooted in the infrastructure(基础设施) of AI systems.
To determine how AI models measure up compared to human awareness, the researchers asked human participants to watch three-second video clips(片段) and rate features important for understanding social interactions on a scale of one to five. The clips included people either interacting with one another, performing side-by-side activities, or conducting independent activities on their own.
The researchers then asked more than 350 AI language, video, and image models to predict how humans would judge the videos and how their brains would respond to watching. For large language models, the researchers had AI evaluate short, human-written captions(说明文字).
Participants, for the most part, agreed with one another on all the questions; the AImodels, regardless of size or the data they were trained on, did not. Video models were unable to accurately describe what people were doing in the videos. Even image models that were given a series of still frames to analyze could not reliably predict whether people were communicating. Language models were better at predicting human behavior, while video models were better at predicting neural activity in the brain. The results provide a sharp contrast to AI's success in reading still images, the researchers said.
According to the lead author, Leyla Isik, there are many details, but the main point is that no AI models fully match human brain and behavior responses to scenes, unlike in still images. These models miss essential parts of human scene processing.
28. In which aspect does AI need improving
A. Carrying out word orders. B. The ability to drive cars.
C. The cooperation between humans and AI. D. Recognizing dynamic intentions.
29. What might cause the problem of AI systems
A. Lack of data. B. Low intelligence.
C. The basic structures. D. Limited training time.
30. What was the purpose of participants' rating video features
A. To train AI caption generators. B. To quantify human insight.
C. To highlight AI models' accuracy. D. To study videos’ emotional impact.
31. What can be inferred about Leyla Isik
A. She is optimistic about AI's future.
B. She feels AI is better with action scenes.
C. She believes AI matches human abilities.
D. She thinks AI lacks human-like processing.

Clean air policies have unintended impact—— driving up wetland methane(甲烷) emissions by up to 34 million tons. Reducing sulphur(硫) in the air may increase natural emissions of methane from wetlands, a new study has found.
The findings suggest that the decline of global sulphur emissions as the result of clean air policies, coupled with the warming and fertilization effects of CO emissions, lifts the lid on wetland methane production resulting in increased emissions.
The resulting additional future release of 20 million-34 million tons of methane each year from natural wetlands would mean targets to reduce human-caused emissions need to be more stringent than currently set out in the Global Methane Pledge.
Methane, which is one of the most powerful greenhouse gases in trapping heat in the atmosphere, is produced in wetlands around the world. Sulphur, which has a very specific effect in natural wetlands, can reduce methane emissions, while CO increases methane production by increasing growth in plants that make the food for methane-producing micro creatures.
Professor Vincent Gauci from the University of Birmingham, a senior author of the study, said, "Well-meaning policies aimed at reducing atmospheric sulphur appear to be having the unintended consequence of lifting this sulphur‘lid’ on wetland methane production. This, coupled with increased CO , means we have a double whammy(晦气)effect that pushes emissions much higher."
How has this happened Put simply, sulphur provides the conditions for one set of bacteria to outmuscle another set of microbes that produce methane when they compete over the limited food available in wetlands. Under the conditions of acid rain sulphur pollution during the past century, this was enough to reduce wetland methane emissions by up to 8%.
Lu, the lead author of the paper from Peking University, said, "Our study points to the complexity of the climate system. Representation of these complex biogeochemical interactions has not previously been well integrated into estimates of future methane emissions. We show that it is essential to consider these feedbacks to get a true understanding of the likely future of this important greenhouse gas."
32. What effect do clean air policies bring about
A. A slowdown in global warming.
B. Rising wetland methane emissions.
C. Improved plant growth in peatlands.
D. Reduced competition among micro creatures.
33. What does the underlined word"stringent" mean in paragraph 3
A. Strict. B. Flexible. C. Ambitious. D. Striking.
34. What disadvantage does Lu identify in previous methane predictions
A. Overemphasis on human activities.
B. Excessive reliance on laboratory data.
C. Ignorance of historical emission patterns.
D. Insufficient focus on complex interactions.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Impact of CO on Wetland Ecosystems
B. The Unintended Consequences of Clean Air Policies
C. The Role of Sulphur in Reducing Methane Emissions
D. The Complexity of Climate Change and Methane Emissions

In the ninth-grade physical science class, Mr Brown was known for his strict rules and hard exams. One day, he announced that the students could bring a single paper of notes for the midterm exam. The class felt relieved but also worried, knowing how tough his tests could be.
A week before the exam, Alex shared his notes with his desk partner during a break.Alex was good at summarizing, and his handwriting was clear. Soon, his notes were being passed around among classmates. Every student wanted to see Alex's notes because they were so well-organized. Someone suggested making copies, but Alex shook his head. "These are my own notes. If everyone makes their own, they' ll remember the notes better," he said.
Two days later, Jane, a student in the class, saw a group of students passing Alex's notes around the back of the classroom. She took the notes to Mr Brown. "Sir, everyone is reading the same notes. Will it make them stop studying on their own " Jane asked quietly.
Mr Brown glanced at the notes and nodded. Then he said, "This summary is good, but you should remember the test could cover any topic. Just memorizing someone else's notes is not enough." Everyone looked worried, but they knew he was right.
On the exam day, the test avoided nearly all the ready answers from the notes and focused on understanding concepts and applying them. It included questions about real-life applications of physics, which weren't on the notes. About 75% of the students got a C or lower grades. Alex scored well but felt guilty for not insisting that everyone should think for themselves.
The next day, Mr Brown gave the whole class a period for group discussions: Which questions could really be solved by using their own method Many students were surprised at how differently they could approach the questions if they had thought deeply.
