The festival began from the ancient times. According to the yin/yang dichotomy(阴阳学说), nine is seen as a number of yang. The ninth day of the ninth month is a double yang day, so the festival was called Chongyang (Chong means repetition in Chinese) . The Double Ninth Festival is a day for people to show respect for their elders. On this day, people often go walking in the hills with their family members to enjoy the beauty of nature. They believe it will bring them good luck good and health. Besides, many people also appreciate chrysanthemum flowers(赏菊)and eat Chongyang cakes.
