M: Lisa’s birthday is coming up soon, isn’t it I need to get a gift for her!
W: Yes. It’s this Friday, the day after tomorrow.
Text 2
W: I’m thinking of buying my daughter a pair of blue jeans for her birthday.
M: If I were you, I would buy a red skirt. It goes really well with her white sweater.
Text 3
W:How much did it cost you to have your hair cut
M:The haircut just cost me twelve dollars, but I tipped the barber eight dollars.
W:That was really cheap.
Text 4
W: Would you like to go to the cinema this evening
M: I wish I could make it. But I have had a rough basketball match. I am really tired.
Text 5
M: How did your sister do yesterday
W: Well, her team won the match, but I didn’t get to see it. I had just got to the soccer field when my boss called. One of my colleagues called in sick with the flu, so he asked me to come and work.
Text 6
M: Hey, what’s this
W: Oh, it’s that show where they have to answer questions about the biggest natural wonders. Last week this man won a trip to Egypt to visit the pyramids.
M: Let’s watch and see where they get to go this week.
W: Oh, wait a minute. That’s the same guy. It’s the same show as last week. I don’t want to see the same thing again. Can we see the film on Channel 10
M: Oh, come on, grandma. Just for a minute! I haven’t seen it. Please.
Text 7
M: Tell me about your life in England. What do you do every day
W: Well, I work in my father’s business, importing wines. I live with my family.
M: How do you get to work Do you catch a bus
W: Usually. Sometimes I go with my father in his car. What about you What do you do
M: I’m a builder. I build houses.
W: And how do you get to work
M: I drive. I have to use my car often in my work. I never go by bus.

Text 8
W: Hello, Michael.
M: Hi, Sarah.
W: Are you attending the conference tomorrow morning at the Shelton Hotel
M: Yes. Are you
W: Yeah, but when I arrived home five minutes ago, I found that my car wouldn’t start. And John is in Brighton on business.
M: Do you know what’s wrong with the car
W: I’m not exactly sure. I think there’s a problem with the engine. Uh, I wonder if you could give me a ride to the hotel tomorrow morning.
M: Sure. When shall I be at your place
W: Well, what about eight o’clock From my place to Shelton, we have to drive through the quarters, so we’d better leave early to avoid the traffic.
M: OK. No problem. It takes twenty minutes to reach your place, so I’ll set off at 7:40. By the way, do you also need me to drive you home tomorrow afternoon
W: No, John will be back then and he’ll get me home. Thank you, Michael.
M: That’s okay. See you tomorrow.
Text 9
M: So Ms King, what languages do you speak besides English
W: I speak Spanish, Italian and French fluently.
M: Wow! How did you learn to speak them
W: Well, my mother is Spanish, so I grew up listening to her speak it. As for French, I grew up in Quebec, a French-speaking Canadian province, so I always had French from when I was born. Later I learned Italian at a university.
M: That’s interesting. As far as I know, you stayed in Korea two months ago. I wonder if you can speak a little Korean.
W: Actually, I’m just starting to learn it. I didn’t know anything and it was just difficult to get by when I was there.
M: I see. You are an expert at learning languages. What advice would you give to young people who want to learn another language
W: Well, not everybody has a talent for it. But if you do want to learn it, it takes time. You have to memorize a whole bunch of vocabulary. What’s more, you have to find people who speak the language and chat with them very often so that you’re forced to speak the language. That’s what I did.
M: What helpful advice! Thanks for your coming to our studio tonight.

Girls can write their answers down, or they can make a video that explains their ideas. The governor is not looking for a long answer. Written answers should be no more than 250 words. Videos can only be one minute long. The last day to enter the competition is April 30. 第一节
One possible version:
Last Sunday witnessed an extraordinary outing, which successfully drew the attention of every student and teacher in Senior 1.
Bathed in the warm spring sunshine, we managed to reach our destination on foot, talking and laughing. On our arrival, we enjoyed the fascinating scenery. We all thought it was a visual feast. What excited us most were the marvelous performances given by our classmates and teachers who lost the games, which made everybody burst into laughter.
By immersing everyone in the charming nature, this activity definitely offered relaxation to us. Not only did it strengthen our perseverance, but it also enhanced our friendship.
One possible version:
Stephen turned and he couldn’t believe the man was Mike Gordon. Mike reached out to shake Stephen’s hand. Astonishment rooted Stephen to the ground, who even forgot to hold out his hand. He wondered if the great driver had mistaken him for Jack, who was now jumping up and down excitedly in celebration. A few seconds later, Stephen embarrassedly looked around, pointing in Jack’s direction and said, “You are probably looking for him, Mr Gordon. I only came in second.” Mike shrugged, “I know that, Stephen. Every race has a winner, but that’s not the only thing racing is about.”
Stephen was surprised to hear such words from a two-time champion. Depression seized him at the thought of his failure and he felt puzzled—isn’t winning the race what it is all about Patting him on the shoulder, Mike beamed a warm smile, “Getting 100 percent out of yourself is what matters most. And today, you have made it.” Stephen went quiet for a moment, reflecting on Mike’s words. Then, he seemed to have understood, nodding his head firmly and muttering to himself, “Yeah, I guess I have done the best I can! A champion is not the only criterion to define me,” with a broad smile spreading over his face.单元素养测评卷(二)

B [2024·河北唐山十县一中联盟高一期中联考]
It is a cold, dark winter evening—the kind of night that can have runners struggling to find the encouragement to run out. But there will be none of the usual “shall-I-shan’t-I ” dialogue going on in Sarah Donaghy’s head, because tonight is Food Bank Run.
Donaghy, a teacher and the welfare officer for Fareham running club, organised the first Food Bank Run in February 2018. “The idea was that, instead of our usual training run, we’d fill backpacks with food to donate to the local food bank and run there, where volunteers would be waiting to receive it,” she says. Donaghy was expecting about 20 members to take part: “I lost count by the time I got to 70.”
Claire Johnson, the community team leader at the Waypoint Hub, which houses the food bank, says, “It was an amazing and emotional experience to see so many runners arrive at our building, bringing much-needed supplies.” But it wasn’t just the food bank that benefited from it. “The runners loved it,” says Donaghy. “The following week after the first run, they were all asking when we could do it again.”
A running equipment company, Runr, joined to help with publicity and event cooperation, creating a Food Bank Run website, complete with an interactive (交互式的) map of events. “Last year, more than 500 running groups, clubs, events and parkruns got involved, donating more than 77 tonnes of supplies to food banks in their communities,” says Craig Winter, one of the founders of Runr.
The event spreads a significant factor—joining with others in physical activity that has a real purpose. It is not “I must do this long run because I’m training for a marathon” or “I must exercise because I’m trying to lose weight”, but something greater. “I truly believe that running for a cause changes your view,” Donaghy says. “Yes, you could do it by entering a marathon and raising money for a charity, but there’s something quite special about handing over food that’s going to someone in your community who really needs it.”

“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” But now scientists have given us another warning: too much play with smartphones or computers makes you dull too.
“Many focus on the benefits of digital devices (设备) in education but ignore the costs,” said Patricia Greenfield from the University of California. “Losing the ability to understand the emotions of other people is one of the costs.” Greenfield and her research team did an experiment. They worked with 105 children who spend about 4.5 hours in front of screens on a school day. The students were asked to describe the emotions towards the pictures of people who were happy, sad, angry or scared. Then, half of them attended a five-day nature and science camp. There they had no smartphones, TVs, or computers. The other half stayed in school and spent the five days as usual. Five days later, all the children took the test again.
Students who had been to the camp got about 5 percent more answers correct than they had done before the camp. But the other group of students didn’t show much improvement. The study is not perfect in some ways, said the researchers. But scientists say that the study is still a warning for us.
“Emotional skills develop in practice and the brain develops through real interaction,” said Professor Taylor, a professor at the University of San Francisco.
Researchers talked to 2,000 parents of children aged 2—16 in the UK about what activities their children could do confidently. The results were surprising: their children could use a tablet (平板电脑) (59%) and work a mobile phone (57%) more confidently than they could tie their shoe laces (鞋带) (53%)! So, spend more time away from mobile phones and computers if you want to be an understanding friend, and not a member of what the Daily Mail called “Generation Helpless”.

Imagine if it were easy for everyone to get to the seashore, to smell the sea winds and to feel sea water on their skin. Wouldn’t it be great if people with walking difficulty could also get closer to the ocean to enjoy the thrill of a sunset, watching the sun’s rays light up the waves The good news is that things are moving in the right direction!
In a CDC study, around 14% of adults in the US report a mobility disability, defined as serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs. This can make vacation planning a challenge and put some destinations off-limits. But technology companies like Mobi-mat are making a day at the beach for people with limited mobility a reality.
Mobi-mat has developed some exciting innovations like non-slip roll-out accessibility mats(垫子). These function like red carpets at movie premieres(首映), taking people with special needs right to the seashore. They are made of a fine nylon material that is designed for people who use wheelchairs or may otherwise need a firmer surface to cross the sand.
More cities are working to make enjoyment of the beach much more wide-ranging in other creative ways based on regional conditions. The town of Jupiter in Florida has opened up access to its beaches to people who have trouble going up and down stairs via three new wide wooden walkovers. The Miami Herald recently reported on the upcoming construction of a wheelchair-accessible beachfront observation platform, and an upgraded park with adaptive playground and exercise equipment for people with disabilities in Miami Beach.
Inspired by creative innovations, forward-looking policymakers and companies, and the shared demands of disabled people who are calling for better access to beautiful beach locations, many more people of all abilities will be able to head to the beach.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Stephen pushed his foot down hard on the gas pedal as he was on the racetrack. The roar of the engine was loud. Stephen loved the sound. At the speed he was going, audiences flashed by as fast as thoughts. “Nothing beats racing,” Stephen said to himself.
Stephen hadn’t come from a “racing family”, and he couldn’t afford a good racing car. But with the help of his uncle, who worked as a mechanic at the local repair shop, Stephen’s car was fast enough to compete.
Not far ahead was the race’s leader, Jack, whose car was so well equipped and stayed just out of Stephen’s reach. Both boys wanted to win. No other cars were close to the two leaders.
Stephen pressed harder on the gas pedal, but his car was already at top speed. Jack’s car pulled away. Stephen had no choice but to fall behind him as they slowed to go into the next turn.
Stephen concentrated as he made a long right-hand turn, and then accelerated onto the straightaway (直道). His foot pressed hard against the pedal. Still, the engine on Jack’s car was too powerful, and Jack pulled away. Stephen wasn’t going to be satisfied with second place today. The winner would get tickets to the professional championship race—presented by two-time champion Mike Gordon.
On the last turn, Stephen drew directly behind Jack. He pulled beside Jack’s car. Their engines screamed. Then, as it had so many times before, Jack’s car pulled ahead.
The finish line was approaching them, closer, closer…The race was over. Stephen came in second. As he climbed out of the car, his vision blurred with tears. He remembered what other drivers had sometimes said, “Second place is just first loser.”
“Great work, kid!” said a man’s voice.
注意: 续写词数应为150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
Stephen turned and he couldn’t believe the man was Mike Gordon.

Paragraph 2:
Stephen was surprised to hear such words from a two-time champion.
