Text 2
W: Here is the menu, sir.
M: Thank you, I am in a hurry. What can you serve me quickly
Text 3
W: I’m so sorry. I thought you said your train would arrive at 4:10 pm.
M: It’s no big deal. My train was a little late so I didn’t wait that long. It arrived at 4:40 pm.
W: That’s still a long wait. It’s 5:10 pm now.
Text 4

Text 5
W: What do you think of the robot economy Some people think robots will replace human beings one day.
M: Though robots benefit us a lot, it is humans who create and control them.
Text 6
W: Your dad and I are considering buying you a computer.
M: Really I want a computer that is suitable for playing games.
W: You must be living in dreamland. It is for study, not for entertainment.
M: Well, can I get an expensive computer An expensive one will surely last longer.
W: No, we can’t afford it. We’re going to buy a cheaper one for you during sales promotion.
M: Well, that’s fine. At least it’s not a used one.
W: To my delight, your father’s job is selling computers and his manager promised him a lower price.
M: Sounds great.

W: Let’s go on an outdoor trip next weekend!
M: Okay! But I think we should make full preparations this time.
W: Right, last time we forgot to bring sleeping bags.
M: It was so cold! And we left too late, remember There was so much traffic.
W: This time we will bring sleeping bags and leave early.
M: I agree. I also need to remember to carry the new power bank I bought online especially for this trip. Enough bottled water is necessary. And can you bring snacks
W: Probably not, but I want to lose weight. Besides, they are not good for health. So I’m going to bring some fruits and beef.
M: Sure, you are right.
Text 8
M: Hey Jenny, I’m a bit worried about you. The whole team has noticed you haven’t come to basketball practice recently.
W: I know. I just have so much schoolwork and so many responsibilities these days.
M: You must be worried about being unable to finish everything. If I can do anything to help, I will.
W: I appreciate that. It’s OK. I know I can finish my work. Doing well in school is my highest priority right now, so it’s difficult to commit fully to being the captain of our team.
M: I know you have a lot of responsibilities. If you want, I can tell your friends and our teammates that you need support.
W: That would be so great. If anyone can help me in studying, that would be a huge help as well.
M: We’re in different grades, so I can’t help much with your schoolwork. But I can help with your captain’s duties.
W: That would relieve a lot of stress for me.
Text 9
M: Hi, Anna. You’ve agreed to talk about your school’s English Film Club on our show. So, how did it start
W: My friends and I have been learning English at senior high school for the last two years. However, at the beginning of this academic year, some of us thought it could be more fun if we learned it in different ways than just sitting in the classroom. That was when we decided to start it.
M: That sounds cool! And then what did you do
W: We spoke about the idea with our teacher and she agreed. The problem was to find an appropriate time to do it, so we discussed it with our teacher at first. Because we had a busy study schedule, we couldn’t have the club during our lessons. So, we decided to run it after school.
M: Does your school help you with that
W: Yes. It has opened an account for us to buy films online. Each month before we end a meeting, we ask for suggestions about the next film. Then we decide what to watch next time, and the teacher orders it for us. I enjoy watching films, but the discussions are the most interesting for me.
Text 10
M: I’m Richard Hunter. You may recognize my face from an article in a local paper recently. This was mainly about my so-called Boot Camp. As the name suggests, this consists of some quite difficult exercises, designed to make a man of you! That’s a joke. Most of my customers are women. I do morning training in villages, and I advertise in local primary schools. I find that’s the best way of reaching young mothers. The training is always outdoors, in all weathers. I’m very much into showing that you don’t need gym equipment or heavy weights. So I like to use real things which you can find around your house or garden. My business is still at the developing stage, and the same goes for my website. At the moment, it’s just advertising what I do. It has also got some pages of advice about training. Healthy diet is next on my list for the website, although I haven’t started that yet. Within six months, I hope to have some videos of people showing some training methods. I’m also planning to organize some sports camps for young children in the summer holidays. I’m looking for some helpers, so join me if anybody is interested.

由文章The Kentish Coast部分中“Following the path, you’ll pass plenty of former smugglers’(走私者) caves and there are beachside cafes dotted along the route at regular intervals.” 故选A。
B
根据文章第一段“Kenny Lake School in Copper Centre, Alaska, is small. Jennifer Hodges is a third, fourth and fifth grade teacher. She says her three-grade class sits only at desks for 20 minutes a day. They do a lot of practical learning, such as raising Coho salmon (鲑鱼) from eggs to young fish and then releasing them into a lake.” 故选A。
根据文章第二段“‘It’s really a delicate balance because we are dealing with traditions and culture of the native people,’ Hodges says. ‘This is their land; this is their salmon. And so we have to really be part of that.’” 故选A。
根据文章第六段“They will name the fish, then release them into the wild and never see them again. But it’s not sad; it’s the highlight of the year. ‘The best part is getting to release them after they watch them hatch from eggs, grow up and take care of them,’ says Fisher, a student.”
根据文章最后一段“‘The salmon have turned from being just fish that they catch to eat, to fish that they are connected to,’ says Hodges. ‘With this project, they have a whole different perspective.’”
根据第二段“For the study, the researchers at UBC analysed the developmental scores of 27,372 children in Metro Vancouver who attended kindergarten between 2005 and 2011. They estimated the amount of green space around each child’s residence from birth to age five. They also assessed levels of traffic-related air pollution and community noise.”
根据第四段中的“According to the researchers, the reason for this is partly green space’s ability to reduce the harmful effects of air pollution and noise—environmental challenges that have been shown to adversely(不利地) affect children’s health and development through increased stress, sleep disturbances and central nervous system damage.”
根据最后一段中的“Time in nature can benefit everyone, but if we want our children to have a good head start, it’s important to provide an enriching environment through nature contact.” 故选A。

根据第二段中“Once scratched with a knife, it can completely patch itself up after being heated to 150℃ for just 60 seconds. When shaped into the shape of a crane, then flattened, it can fold itself back into the crane shape by being heated up.”和第四段中“It can also repair itself, and can recover its original memorized shape.”
根据第三段中“It biodegraded by 25% and released molecules(分子) that are essential food for marine life.”和第四段中“It even biodegrades safely in a marine environment, according to Shota Ando, a researcher of the study.” 故选A项。
根据第一段中“However, Japanese scientists at the University of Tokyo have developed a new plastic material that can be broken down more easily and can self-heal and remember past shapes.”

One possible version:
Dear Peter,
A Chinese traditional food tasting party specifically for international students will be held in our school. Given that you are keen on it, I’m writing to invite you to join us.
When it comes to my favourite dish, “Dongpo Pork” comes first. Dongpo Pork is famous for its rich flavour and tender texture. Carefully selected and cooked using a special method, the dish is both fatty and juicy. What I love most is the joy it brings when it is shared with friends and family. Each bite of the tender meat is filled with warmth, love, and a taste that will leave you craving for more.
It will be a golden opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Chinese cuisine first hand. Looking forward to your coming!
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
Anna looked up at her mother, surprised by her actions. “Mum, why did you do that ” she asked curiously. Emily smiled and said that the boy was brave enough to share his talent with them. She thought it’s important to encourage and support each other, especially when someone is just starting out and that people can never know how much a simple act of kindness can mean to someone. Anna nodded thoughtfully, watching as the young violinist left the stage with a shy but proud smile.
Since that day, Anna carried her mother’s lesson with her. She found herself looking at situations differently, seizing opportunities to offer support and kindness. In school, when classmates struggled or felt nervous, Anna was there with a word of encouragement, remembering her mother’s example at the talent show. She realized that these small acts of kindness didn’t just help others, but made herself feel good too. Anna hoped that just like her mother, she could be a source of initiative and encouragement in someone else’s life.

Four best scenic paths near London
Goring Gap and the Thames Path
Length: 5 miles
Start: Goring & Streatley station
End: Pangbourne
This path is far from boring for a rural walk. The footpath follows the curve of the river as it flows south, winding past wildflower grassland, and the Hartslock Nature Reserve, which is home to red kites and rare orchids.
Post-walk pub: The Swan serves these days. Order a table or keep warm by one of its open fires.
Box Hill
Length: 6.8 miles
Start and end: Westhumble station
Admire the glorious views and escape the crowds. But first you’ve got to climb 272 steps to the top of Box Hill. The endorphins are definitely pumping—maybe that’s how it got the nickname “Happy Valley”.
Post-walk pub: The spacious Tree on Box Hill has an enticing menu and a huge beer garden.
The Kentish Coast
Length: 9.8 miles
Start: Ramsgate
End: Margate
Following the path, you’ll pass plenty of former smugglers’ (走私者) caves and there are beachside cafes dotted along the route at regular intervals.
Post-walk pub: Order a pint of beer at Xylo, a pub with wonderful views over Margate Sands.
Chess Valley in the Chilterns
Length: 9.9 miles
Start: Chorleywood station
End: Chesham station
It isn’t home to any chess masters, but it did used to produce a lot of watercress, fed by its sparkling chalk stream. This walk follows the river, whose bank is covered with the rolling grass and woods.
Post-walk pub: The George & Dragon is an old coaching inn with a log fire and real beer.

Kenny Lake School in Copper Centre, Alaska, is small. Jennifer Hodges is a third, fourth and fifth grade teacher. She says her three-grade class sits only at desks for 20 minutes a day. They do a lot of practical learning, such as raising Coho salmon (鲑鱼) from eggs to young fish and then releasing them into a lake.
It’s through a programme called Salmon in the Classroom, established by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Many students already have experience in fishing salmon, which are a staple (主食) in native Alaskan communities. “It’s really a delicate balance because we are dealing with traditions and culture of the native people,” Hodges says. “This is their land; this is their salmon. And so we have to really be part of that.”
During the months when the salmon are in the classroom, students like to sit by the tank to observe. They like to calculate when the salmon will turn from eggs to young fish based on the temperature of the tank. To them, it’s not practising maths problems; it’s predicting the future.
“We always take a guess at when they will hatch from their eggs first,” says Liam, a student. “It takes maths because you have to keep track of their temperature and calculate. I’m good at maths so I usually get it right.”
Since Hodges and her students live in such a rural area, there aren’t many field trips. But each year in May, she takes her students on the Salmon Field Trip, where they get to release the salmon they’ve raised in class.
They will name the fish, then release them into the wild and never see them again. But it’s not sad; it’s the highlight of the year. “The best part is getting to release them after they watch them hatch from eggs, grow up and take care of them,” says Fisher, a student.
“The salmon have turned from being just fish that they catch to eat, to fish that they are connected to,” says Hodges. “With this project, they have a whole different perspective.”

Do you want to ensure your child hits their expected developmental milestones New UBC research suggests living in areas with high exposure to green space can help set them up for success.
For the study, the researchers at UBC analysed the developmental scores of 27,372 children in Metro Vancouver who attended kindergarten between 2005 and 2011. They estimated the amount of green space around each child’s residence from birth to age five. They also assessed levels of traffic-related air pollution and community noise.
The results highlight the fundamental importance of natural green space like street trees, parks and community gardens. “Most of the children were doing well in their development, in terms of language skills, cognitive (认知的) capacity, socialization and other outcomes,” says Ingrid Jarvis, a PhD candidate in the department of forest and conservation sciences at UBC. “But what’s interesting is that those children living in a residential location with more vegetation and richer natural environments showed better overall development than their peers with less green space.”
According to the researchers, the reason for this is partly green space’s ability to reduce the harmful effects of air pollution and noise—environmental challenges that have been shown to adversely(不利地) affect children’s health and development through increased stress, sleep disturbances and central nervous system damage. “Few studies have investigated this pathway linking green space and developmental outcomes among children,” adds Jarvis.
The researchers assessed early childhood development using the Early Development Instrument (EDI), a survey completed by kindergarten teachers for each child. The tool measures a child’s ability to meet age-appropriate developmental expectations.
“More research is needed, but our findings suggest that urban planning efforts to increase green space in residential neighbourhoods and around schools are beneficial for early childhood development, with potential health benefits throughout life,” says the study’s senior author Matilda Bosch. “Time in nature can benefit everyone, but if we want our children to have a good head start, it’s important to provide an enriching environment through nature contact.”
( )28.Which is a key factor in the researchers’ study
A.The kids’ scores from school exams.
B.The average IQ score of the subjects.
C.The green space where the kids lived.
D.The air pollution level of the whole city.

A.Air pollution is largely to blame for kids’ failures.
B.Kids living in a noisy area tend to feel more stressed.
C.Pollution harms kids’ nervous system more than noise.
D.Green space is directly linked to kids’ mental development.
( )30.What does Matilda Bosch stress in the last paragraph
A.The importance of nature in kids’ growth.
B.The role of research in scientific work.
C.The proper way of giving a good start to kids.
D.The urgency of expanding green space in cities.
( )31.What could be a suitable title for the text
A.What are the health effects of noise pollution
B.Green space: a guarantee for kids’ future success
C.Urban green space and its impact on human health
D.Time in nature aids early childhood development

Plastic is everywhere in our modern world. Its toughness makes it an extremely useful material from household items to vehicle parts, but that same toughness makes it hard to break down for recycling or disposal (处理). However, Japanese scientists at the University of Tokyo have developed a new plastic material that can be broken down more easily and can self-heal and remember past shapes.
Based on a kind of plastic called an epoxy resin vitrimer, which is brittle (脆性的), the new plastic boasts a huge range of advantages. Once scratched with a knife, it can completely patch itself up after being heated to 150℃ for just 60 seconds. When shaped into the shape of a crane, then flattened, it can fold itself back into the crane shape by being heated up. It does all of this much faster than others of its type.
The new plastic can also break down easier. Even if it’s discarded(丢弃) into the environment, it still poses less of a problem than other kinds of plastic, which the team demonstrated by placing it in sea water for 30 days. It biodegraded by 25% and released molecules(分子) that are essential food for marine life.
The new plastic is more resistant to breaking. It can also repair itself, and can recover its original memorized shape. It even biodegrades safely in a marine environment, according to Shota Ando, a researcher of the study.
The material can be used in a variety of applications, “Infrastructure materials for roads and bridges are often composed of epoxy resins mixed with compounds such as concrete and carbon,” said Ando. “By using the new plastic, these would be easier to maintain as they would be stronger and healable using heat. Unlike conventional epoxy resins, this new material is hard but stretchable, so it could also be expected to strongly bond materials of different hardness and stretch.”
( )32.What is the author’s purpose in writing Paragraph 1
A.To introduce the topic of the text.
B.To show the disadvantages of plastic.
C.To highlight the importance of plastic.
D.To indicate his views on previous plastic.

( )34.What do we know about the new plastic
A.It is safe for animals in the ocean.
B.It can provide nutrition for animals.
C.It can change its shape when frozen.
D.It is more brittle than previous plastic.
( )35.What can be the best title for the text

In a small town, there was a community talent show held every year in the local park. The event was a highlight for many, with performances from various local talents. Among the audience was a woman named Emily, a kind-hearted local librarian, along with her 12-year-old daughter Anna. Both of their eyes were filled with excitement.
As the show began, Emily and her daughter watched a young girl in amazement, about eight, confidently sing a song. Her voice was surprisingly powerful for her small body. Then a group of teenagers followed. Their hip-hop dance routine was full of energy, leading to cheers from the crowd. There was even an elderly gentleman who performed a series of magic tricks. However, as the sun began to set, many in the audience grew tired and the applause (掌声) after each act became less enthusiastic (热情的).
Then came the turn of a young boy, around ten years old, nervously holding his violin. As he started playing, it was clear that he was a beginner. His notes were shaky and he missed a few beats. The audience, already tired, responded with only a little polite applause. Emily noticed the boy’s frustrated face as he finished his performance.
It was at this moment that Emily recalled a powerful memory from her own childhood—the time when she had stood on a similar stage, her voice trembling(颤抖) through a song. But the kindness she had received from a stranger in the audience pushed her to carry on. Drawing from the lesson she had learned from the past experience, Emily stood up, clapping loudly and cheering for the boy. “Great job! Keep practising, and you’re doing wonderfully!”she called out. Her enthusiasm inspired other members of the audience to join in the applause, their clap growing louder and more sincere.
