根据第三段中“Hand-to-cheek gesture or hand-to-chin gesture from the person shows his disinterest and the salesman realizes that the customer is not interested in his presentation.”
根据画线词后一句“…secondly, he or she is hostile (怀有敌意的) towards you and may be issuing a non-verbal challenge, in which case the pupils will become smaller.”
根据最后一段“Learn the body language and succeed in winning over others!” 故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“To prevent the annoyance or boredom showing in your face, you may use gestures, gazes and smiles to pretend that you are listening! We call them a non-verbal way of communication or the ‘body language’!”
1.A 由上文“Some people may go into a presentation like they’re going into battle. I was one of those people. But after years of public speaking experience, I’ve learned some body language tips.”和下文“When we’re nervous on stage, we often go into ‘deer in the headlights’ mode…Don’t forget there is space around you! Walk around, and use big gestures and power poses.” 故选A项。
2.C 由上文“Use hand gestures. Here’s the deal: research shows that using hand gestures increases the value of your message by 60%!”和下文“In our human behaviour research lab, we analysed thousands of hours of TED talks and found one striking pattern: the most viral TED talkers spoke with their words and their hands.”
3.F 由上文“Raise your hand. Remember those times in class when the teachers asked us to raise our hands ”和下文“Whenever you ask a question to the audience, try to spin it in a way to get the audience to participate.” 因此,本空应该指出老师这样做的原因,即能提高听众参与度,F选项“They do it for a reason: It increases audience involvement!”(他们这样做是有原因的:它提高了听众参与度!)
4.D 由上文“Laugh it off. Humour is one of the best ways to turn a dull presentation into a lively one.”和下文“Laughing is actually more about building relationships than reacting to jokes.”可知,作者强调了幽默在演讲中的作用,因此,本空应该强调幽默的作用,D选项“It’s not only about feeling good, either.”
5.G 由上文“Have fun! Remember, your goal as a presenter isn’t just to relay information. You’ve also got a second job as an entertainer. Remember to engage the audience and enjoy yourself on stage!”可知,本空应强调自己和观众的感受,G选项“Your audience will appreciate it, and you’ll feel much freer, too.”
故填to communicate。
not…but… 故填but。
故填of。
根据上文all of your non-verbal和下文send可知,behaviour应用复数形式。
故填what。
故填shows。
Unit 4 BODY LANGUAGE
The “thumbs-up”
While the Western culture has become used to the thumbs-up as a positive signal, there are cultures where a thumbs-up may land you in trouble. In West Africa, as well as Greece, Italy and the Middle East, the thumbs-up is pretty much the biggest insult(侮辱).
The “OK”
This sign is mainly used by divers (潜水员) to mean “OK”.Basically the meaning comes out as “great”, or “completely fine”. However, in a few countries in Europe, people may think you’re telling them that you think they’re a “zero”.
The “V-sign”
The sign comes in two formats(形式): one with the palm (手掌) faced outwards, and one with the palm inwards. In America they mean the same thing—“victory”.However,if the outside of your hand is facing your target, you’re giving somebody an insult in many English-speaking countries.
High five
An action to celebrate victory or to express happiness in which two people raise one arm each and hit their open hands together.

Consider a person very important to you. He or she keeps on talking to the extent of boring you and makes you feel like escaping from that place. To prevent the annoyance or boredom showing in your face, you may use gestures, gazes and smiles to pretend that you are listening! We call them a non-verbal way of communication or the “body language”!
There are gestures, gazes and smiles to show how far we are interested in the conversation.
Gestures may be of different types. Notice a person playing a dice game. When there is a positive sign of victory on his side, he gets more excited and rubs his palms fast. Then he throws the dice. Similarly a salesperson knows when his customer is responsive. Hand-to-cheek gesture or hand-to-chin gesture from the person shows his disinterest and the salesman realizes that the customer is not interested in his presentation. Slapping one’s own forehead indicates the person’s forgetfulness.
Gazes go a long way in communicating with each other. When a person’s gaze meets yours for more than two thirds of the time, it can mean one of two things: first, he or she finds you very interesting or appealing, in which case the gaze will be associated with dilated pupils (瞳孔); secondly, he or she is hostile (怀有敌意的) towards you and may be issuing a non-verbal challenge, in which case the pupils will become smaller.
Smile your way into someone’s heart. There are 50 or so different types of human smiles. By analysing the movements of facial muscles involved in smiling, researchers can tell when a smile is true. Look for the crinkle in the skin at the middle, outside corner of the eyes and if it is not there, the smile is probably fake. Real smiles are smiles that change rapidly from a small facial movement to a broad open expression.
Learn the body language and succeed in winning over others!

Body language presentation
cues to use in your next speech
Some people may go into a presentation like they’re going into battle. I was one of those people. But after years of public speaking experience, I’ve learned some body language tips.
1. When we’re nervous on stage, we often go into “deer in the headlights” mode. We bring our arms in close and keep our feet in the smallest space possible. To give effective presentations, you’ve got to learn how to master your space. Don’t forget there is space around you! Walk around, and use big gestures and power poses.
Use hand gestures. Here’s the deal: research shows that using hand gestures increases the value of your message by 60%! 2. In our human behaviour research lab, we analysed thousands of hours of TED talks and found one striking pattern: the most viral TED talkers spoke with their words and their hands.
Raise your hand. Remember those times in class when the teachers asked us to raise our hands 3. Whenever you ask a question to the audience, try to spin it in a way to get the audience to participate. Instead of asking your audience, “Did you think the event was amazing ” try asking, “Raise your hand if you think the event was amazing.”
Laugh it off. Humour is one of the best ways to turn a dull presentation into a lively one. Who doesn’t love to laugh Chances are, you’re not laughing enough. Research shows that adults only laugh an average of 15 times a day, while preschoolers laugh 400 times! 4. Laughing is actually more about building relationships than reacting to jokes.
Have fun! Remember, your goal as a presenter isn’t just to relay information. You’ve also got a second job as an entertainer. Remember to engage the audience and enjoy yourself on stage! 5.
A.Take up space.
B.Be brave on stage.
C.And we confirmed it using science.
D.It’s not only about feeling good, either.
E.You are sure to have a good time in class.
F.They do it for a reason: It increases audience involvement!
G.Your audience will appreciate it, and you’ll feel much freer, too.

the annoyance or boredom showing in your face, you may use
gestures, gazes and smiles to pretend that you are listening! We
call them a non-verbal way of communication or the ‘body
language’!”
