How can humans become immortal(永生的) You might have only seen the idea of uploading the human brain to a digital cloud in science fiction movies.Elon Musk,Tesla CEO, has already done so.The secret was revealed when a question posted on Twitter caught his attention.
“If you could upload your brain to the cloud, and talk to a virtual version of yourself, would you be buddies?” Musk replied on July 19,“Already did it.” The reply indicated that Musk’s brain-computer interface(接口) company,Neuralink, had already realized the technology, according to Xinhua.
Neuralink was founded by Musk in 2016.The company focuses on brain-computer interface technology which is used to connect the brain to a digital network. It is developing devices for the treatment of patients with neurological disorders(神经障碍).In other words, the company aims to create links between mind and machine, according to Psychology Today.
So how do brain-computer interfaces work Computers designed to learn the patterns of neural activity are used to extract information from human brains. For example,if a person imagines picking up a book, the computer would then learn to identify how the brain gives that command.Next, the computer would send the signal to the machine, which would then move a robotic arm to reach for the book.
Uploading a brain is only part of Musk’s plan.He revealed to Insider that his goal is to download human consciousness into robots.Just like how our memories are stored in mobile phones through pictures and videos,Musk imagines that our brains—not only how we think, but also our personalities and habits—can be diverted into robots. In this way, even after our bodies decay(腐朽),our brains are preserved. Some
experts believe that this could be achievable one day,but the timeline is unclear.“The most wildly optimistic predictions place mind uploading within a few decades, but I would not be
surprised if it took centuries,” wrote Michael S.A.Graziano,a professor at Princeton University,in a Wall Street Journal essay.
What does Neuralink focus on
Studying how to connect the brain to computers.
Offering a new means of communication. C.Revealing secrets concerning brains.
D.Helping people live forever.
What do we know about the brain-computer interface technology
It has been widely used in the treatment of patients with neurological disorders.
It would soon be able to download human consciousness into robots.
It was inspired by a tough question posted on Twitter.
It allows users to move objects with their minds.
What does the underlined word “diverted” in the last paragraph mean A.Divided. B.Changed.
C.Sent. D.Expanded.
What is the text mainly about A.An advanced technology.
B.An outstanding inventor.
C.A shocking news story.

In recent years, a new trend has emerged among young travelers in Japan who are increasingly opting for “off-the-beaten-path” destinations instead of flocking to famous tourist spots. This phenomenon, known as counter-tourism, is gaining popularity as it offers tourists a chance to explore quieter and less commercialized areas.
Data from a major online travel agency reveals that bookings for accommodations in lesser- known towns increased by 25% year-on-year during the holiday season. Moreover, reservations for boutique hotels in these locations surged by at least fivefold. Lesser-known attractions saw significant growth, with some reporting over 20% more visitors compared to the previous year.
For example, the serene countryside of Shimane Prefecture welcomed approximately 30,000 visitors over seven days, marking a 17% increase year-over-year.
Travelers are choosing these quieter locales not only to avoid crowded places but also to enjoy lower costs and experience genuine local culture. In contrast to popular tourist hotspots, which can be overly commercialized, these hidden gems offer more authentic experiences and natural encounters. Additionally, changes in travel preferences reflect a growing desire among tourists for deeper relaxation and meaningful engagement with their surroundings.
The ongoing impact of environmental concerns and sustainability efforts also plays a role in this shift. Travelers are becoming more conscious of their ecological footprint and prefer destinations that promote sustainable tourism practices. As a result, they are more likely to choose eco-friendly accommodations and activities.
An editorial in the Tokyo Times noted that the rise of counter-tourism could have positive implications for both tourists and the industry. It encourages diversity in travel options and forces traditional tourist hubs to innovate and improve their offerings. More importantly, it helps
distribute economic benefits more evenly across different regions.
Professor Sato, a tourism expert, suggests that to fully capitalize on this trend, greater emphasis should be placed on developing unique local experiences and promoting lesser-known cultural heritage sites. Highlighting regional traditions and fostering community involvement are key strategies for enhancing the appeal of off-the-beaten-path destinations.
What do the statistics in paragraph 2 indicate A.The success of travel agencies in Japan.
B.The profitability of hotels during holidays.
C.The contribution of tourism to the economy.
D.The rising trend of counter-tourism in Japan.
What is the fundamental reason behind the emergence of counter-tourism A.Environmental awareness.
B.Changing travel preferences.
C.Lower travel costs.
D.Lack of innovation in well-known attractions.
How does the Tokyo Times view counter-tourism
It will decline as environmental concerns diminish.
It benefits both tourists and the tourism market.
It enhances the spread of local culture to tourists.
It hinders the development of popular tourist spots.
According to Professor Sato, what advice is given for developing the tourism market A.Improving infrastructure in tourist areas.
B.Enhancing management rules for tourist attractions.
C.Exploring the potential and uniqueness of lesser-known attractions. D.Promoting local characteristics through social media.
Life in the Clear
Transparent animals let light pass through their bodies the same way light passes through a window. These animals typically live between the surface of the ocean and a depth of about 3,300 feet—as far as most light can reach. Most of them are extremely delicate and can be damaged by a simple touch. Sonke Johnsen, a scientist in biology, says, “These animals live through their life alone. They never touch anything unless they’re eating it, or unless something is eating them.”
And they are as clear as glass. How does an animal become see-through It s trickier than you might think.
The objects around you are visible because they interact with light. Light typically travels in a straight line. But some materials slow and scatter(散射) light, bouncing it away from its original path. Others absorb light, stopping it dead in its tracks. Both scattering and absorption make an object look different from other objects around it, so you can see it easily.
But a transparent object doesn’t absorb or scatter light, at least not very much. Light can pass through it without bending or stopping. That means a transparent object doesn’t look very different from the surrounding air or water. You don’t see it you see the things behind it.
To become transparent, an animal needs to keep its body from absorbing or scattering light. Living materials can stop light because they contain pigments(色素) that absorb specific colors of
light. But a transparent animal doesn’t have pigments, so its tissues won’t absorb light. According to Johnsen, avoiding absorption is actually easy. The real challenge is preventing light from scattering.
Animals are built of many different materials—skin, fat, and more—and light moves through each at a different speed. Every time light moves into a material with a new speed, it bends and scatters. Transparent animals use different tricks to fight scattering. Some animals are simply very small or extremely flat. Without much tissue to scatter light, it is easier to be see- through. Others build a large, clear mass of non-living jelly-like(果冻状的) material and spread themselves over it.
Larger transparent animals have the biggest challenge, because they have to make all the different tissues in their bodies slow down light exactly as much as water does. They need to look uniform. But how they’re doing it is still unknown. One thing is clear: for these larger animals, staying transparent is an active process. When they die, they turn a non-transparent milky white. 35.According to Paragraph 1, transparent animals .
A.stay in groups B.can be easily damaged
C.appear only in deep ocean D.are beautiful creatures
The underlined word “dead” in Paragraph 3 means . A.silently B.gradually
C.regularly D.completely
One way for an animal to become transparent is to .
change the direction of light travel B.gather materials to scatter light C.avoid the absorption of light D.grow bigger to stop light
The last paragraph tells us that larger transparent animals .
move more slowly in deep water
stay see-through even after death
produce more tissues for their survival
take effective action to reduce light spreading
Many people have such a friend — one who understands and empathizes with them; one who always knows what to say when they are upset; one who they feel comfortable unburdening themselves to. Chances are that the friend has a high emotional quotient (EQ). So what is an EQ 39
EQ is also called “emotional intelligence”, which has both interpersonal and intrapersonal aspects. On the interpersonal side, emotionally intelligent people can identify others’ feelings. 40 On an intrapersonal level, they can understand their own strengths and weaknesses. They don’t let themselves be discouraged by mistakes, but they take responsibility for them.
There are many benefits emotionally intelligent people can enjoy. 41 This not only helps with making friends and building business relationships, but also helps with building more meaningful relationships that could last for life. Additionally, those with high EQs are better at adapting to life’s chances and can handle stressful situations with more grace.
42 First, an analysis of studies demonstrates that creative and self-confident innovators may be more individualistic and therefore have a lower EQ. On the other hand, it’s possible to improve emotional intelligence. Reflect on your reactions during challenging moments and adopt constructive suggestions without becoming upset at criticism.
In conclusion, emotional intelligence is a valuable skill that can enhance every aspect of life. By developing one’s ability to understand and manage emotions, a person can face challenges flexibly. 43 You will likely see great improvements in yourself.
Also they understand the source of those feelings.
One is that they can make good connections with others.
You should learn to react to your strong feelings correctly.
This prevents emotional decisions in the heat of the moment. E.However, if you are not emotionally intelligent, there’s some good news.
F.It is a measure of one’s ability to perceive, respond to, and regulate emotions. G.So, actively develop and apply emotional intelligence to fully benefit from it.

Amy and I had been best friends since primary school and spent almost every day with each other. Sometimes, other children said we were no fun because we were both very academic(学术的) and liked to study, but we liked it that way. Both of us were very hard-working and always got good grades at school.
I thought we would be like this forever, however, our friendship was on the rocks recently.
One Monday, we had a surprise math quiz. I thought it was quite easy and was not worried about the results.
I must have sounded very proud of myself after the quiz, saying how easy it was and how I was sure to get a good grade. And many classmates looked at me with admiration.
The next day after class, my math teacher told me that I had the lowest grade in the class! I felt so ashamed and couldn’t believe it; I must be really stupid to fail a simple math quiz!
Afterwards, I pretended to be cheerful and greeted others with a smile as usual, but Amy sensed something was wrong.
We went to wash our hands in the girls’ washroom before lunch. She patted me on the shoulder and asked me what happened. Seeing her concerned look, I had to admit how badly I had done in the math quiz. I begged her not to tell anyone else, and couldn’t help sobbing (啜泣). She held me tightly, saying she would keep my secret, and cheered me up.
However, the next day, I noticed that my classmates were staring at me as I came into math class, when I went to sit down, I was shocked to find a piece of paper on my desk that said, “...Stupid Sarah got a D!” I was so upset that I felt like crying.

根据第二段“Data from a major online travel agency reveals that bookings for accommodations in lesser-known towns increased by 25% year-on-year during the holiday season. Moreover, reservations for boutique hotels in these locations surged by at least fivefold. Lesser- known attractions saw significant growth, with some reporting over 20% more visitors compared to the previous year. For example, the serene countryside of Shimane Prefecture welcomed approximately 30,000 visitors over seven days, marking a 17% increase year-over-year.(一家大型在线旅行社的数据显示,在假期期间,鲜为人知的城镇的住宿预订量同比增长了 25%。此外,这些地点的精品酒店预订量至少激增了五倍。鲜为人知的景点出现了显著增长,一些景点的游客人数比上一年增加了 20%以上。例如,岛根县宁静的乡村在七天内接待了约 3万名游客,同比增长 17%。)”可推知,这些数据表明,越来越多的游客选择“冷门”目的地
,反映了日本“反向旅游”趋势的兴起。故选 D 项。
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Travelers are choosing these quieter locales not only to avoid crowded places but also to enjoy lower costs and experience genuine local culture.(旅行者选择这些更安静的地方,不仅是为了避开拥挤的地方,也是为了享受更低的成本,体验真正的当地文化。)”和“Additionally, changes in travel preferences reflect a growing desire among tourists for deeper relaxation and meaningful engagement with their surroundings.(此外,旅游偏好的变化反映了游客越来越渴望更深入的放松和与周围环境有意义的互动。)”
根据第五段中“An editorial in the Tokyo Times noted that the rise of counter- tourism could have positive implications for both tourists and the industry.(《东京时报》的一篇

根据文章第一段第三行“Most of them are extremely delicate and can be damaged by a simple touch.”
根据第五段第一句“To become transparent, an animal needs to keep its body from absorbing or scattering light.”
根据最后一段第一句中的“Larger transparent animals have the biggest challenge, because they have to make all the different tissues in their bodies slow down light exactly as much as water does.”

前文“Chances are that the friend has a high emotional quotient (EQ). So what is an EQ (很有可能这个朋友的情商很高。那么什么是情商呢)”提到情商的概念,提问其定义,此处需要补充情商的准确定义,因此 F 项“It is a measure of one’s ability to perceive, respond to, and regulate emotions. (它是衡量一个人感知、应对和调节情绪能力的标准)”符合语境,解释了情商的含义,承接前文,选项中的 It 指代前文的 EQ。故选 F。
前文“On the interpersonal side, emotionally intelligent people can identify others’ feelings. (在人际关系方面,高情商的人能够识别他人的感受)”提到高情商的人能识别他人的情绪,后文“On an intrapersonal level, they can understand their own strengths and weaknesses. (在个人层面上,他们可以了解自己的长处和短处)”转到个人层面高情商的表现,此处应继续人际

(这不仅有助于交朋友和建立商业关系,还有助于建立更有意义的、可以持续一生的关系)”详细说明拥有高情商的人在人际关系上的好处,此处应列举一个人际关系有关的优势,因此 B 项“One is that they can make good connections with others. (其中之一是他们能更好地与他人建立联系)”符合语境,承前启后。故选 B。
前一段主要讨论高情商的好处,后文“First, an analysis of studies demonstrates that creative and self-confident innovators may be more individualistic and therefore have a lower EQ. On the other hand, it’s possible to improve emotional intelligence. (首先,一项研究分析表明,有创造力和自信的创新者可能更个人主义,因此情商较低。另一方面,提高情商是可能的
)”表明情商低的人有其他优势,且情商可以改善,此处应转折,说明情商不高也不全是坏事,因此 E 项“However, if you are not emotionally intelligent, there’s some good news.
前文“In conclusion, emotional intelligence is a valuable skill that can enhance every aspect of life. By developing one’s ability to understand and manage emotions, a person can face challenges flexibly. (总之,情商是一项宝贵的技能,可以提升生活的方方面面。通过发展一个人理解和管理情绪的能力,一个人可以灵活地面对挑战)”总结情商的价值,此处应鼓励读者积极应用情商,因此 G 项“So, actively develop and apply emotional intelligence to fully benefit from it. (因此,积极培养并运用情商,以充分受益)”符合语境,作为总结,呼吁行动
