根据第二段中“They had barely driven out of their neighbourhood when a police car appeared behind them. Deputy Will Kimbro figured that the speeding driver was either too distracted to notice him or unconcerned.”
根据倒数第三段中“‘Although I was shocked, my training kicked in, and I went to work to keep that child alive,’ said Kimbro. Then he began tapping Ryleigh’s chest…didn’t have a chance if there was a blockage, and he used one finger to clear her airway.”
根据最后一段中“At the hospital, Ryleigh recovered quickly thanks to a determined police officer who was in the right place at the right time.”
故选A项。
1.C 前文“As an important piece of lifesaving equipment, a tall lifeguard chair is often seen on beaches, at lakes and community pools.”
2.G 前文“The height of a lifeguard chair has two distinct advantages. First, it offers the lifeguard an unblocked view of the water he/she is guarding, allowing him/her to watch swimmers carefully for signs of danger.”
3.E 下文“As lifeguards often work long hours in sunny locations, a sunshade can prevent them from severe sunburn.”
4.F 空前“Lifeguard chairs are usually made of wood. Nowadays resin is also used.”
5.D 空后“…but it’s not the only thing lifeguards need. There are many other devices used by lifeguards to do their job correctly.”
故填The。
故填what。
故填if。
故填to。
此处为从句的谓语动词,根据“The family is now at a hotel…” 故填is being repaired。Unit 5 FIRST AID
It is important to know how to give first aid, particularly in life-threatening situations. Examples of these are choking, excessive(过多的) bleeding, drowning, poisoning and the stopping of one’s breath or heartbeat. First aid is what a person can do to help a wounded or sick person, or on any immediate situation that involves life-threatening matters, before the doctor arrives.
The aims of first aid are: to keep the person alive, which counts for life-threatening and immediate situations; to stabilize(稳定) the condition of the person, and lastly, to relieve any pain, discomfort and most importantly, anxiety. Ideally, a first aider is someone who has attended classes on emergency care and has undergone first aid training. But not all of us have the opportunity to receive such training because of our individual work and activities.
Almost all of us will have to give emergency assistance at some point. And if so, we would have to use a first-aid kit. This is why it is always advised that every home should have a first-aid supply, because an emergency knocks on the most unexpected time.

Kemira Boyd had just jumped in the shower when she heard her stepmother, Tammy Boyd, knocking on the door. Kemira’s 12-day-old daughter Ryleigh was choking. Kemira tried everything, but she still couldn’t breathe. Kemira knew Ryleigh needed to get to the hospital fast.
They had barely driven out of their neighbourhood when a police car appeared behind them. Deputy Will Kimbro figured that the speeding driver was either too distracted to notice him or unconcerned. Kimbro soon found out it was a frightening combination of the two.
