One possible version:
Dear Editor,
Last Sunday our school organized an activity aiming to raise the students’ awareness of the significance of labour and the joy of harvest.
We went to the Red Star Farm to experience life on the farm. The activity lasted one day. On the farm, we were divided into several groups and assigned different tasks. The tasks involved planting trees, weeding, and watering vegetables. At noon, we enjoyed lunch with the farmers, with the vegetables planted by them. Before the sunset, we returned to school, tired but happy.
The activity proved an incredibly great success as we not only have realized the value of labour but also learned to respect all labourers.

根据第一段中“It is also one of the most efficient and sensitive tools in existence for determining the ripeness of fruit.”和第二段中“However, most of us don’t use them that way anymore.” 故选A项。
根据第三段首句“But today, we have yielded many of the functions of our own senses to the modern food industry—which suits that industry just fine.”可知,今天我们已经将感官的许多功能让渡给了现代食品工业,下文“A survey of 7,000 young people in 2011 found that most of them would be hypothetically (假设地) prepared to give up their sense of smell if it meant that they could keep their laptop or phone.”
根据第四段内容,尤其是首句“In reality, it is not easy to live without a sense of smell.” 故选A项。
根据最后一段“No human activity is more multi-sensory than eating, but to eat in the modern world is often to eat in a state of profound sensory disengagement. We order groceries on a computer, or takeaways on a phone, and they arrive wrapped in plastic, so that we can neither smell them nor see them before we take the first mouthful.” 故选A项。
1.D 前文“Up to 80% of premature heart disease can be prevented by making specific lifestyle choices. Some strategies, such as exercising and managing weight, are well known.”
2.F 本段表示应得到充足的睡眠,后文“If we’re sleep deprived, our bodies also have more difficulty controlling blood pressure, inflammation (发炎) and glucose levels.”
3.A 空处为小标题,根据后文“Volunteering gets you out and creates a social network.” 故选A。
4.G 根据前文及空前句“Even short periods of exposure are unhealthy for people who already have other cardiovascular risks, such as high blood pressure.”
5.E 最后一段说明了吃早餐的重要性,空前“If you eat a proper breakfast, you’re less likely to be hungry later and make poor food choices…”
Ⅲ.第一节
One possible version:
Dear fellow students,
I’m Li Hua. It’s my great privilege to deliver a speech themed on leading a healthy life.
As we all know, health is far more important than wealth and wisdom. Good health enables us to enjoy our life and achieve what we hope for in our career. When it comes to how to stay healthy, some fundamental principles should be brought in mind.
Firstly, it is very important for us to keep a balanced diet and maintain regular eating habits. In addition, we’d better work out frequently to build up our body and character. Besides, we have to avoid too much work or study pressure. Getting too tired all the time may definitely weaken our defense system, making us get sick easily.
In conclusion, let’s take action and make a promise to lead healthy lives!
Thank you!
One possible version:
Sarah decided to help Mrs Wilson out. Every Saturday, as Sarah saw Mrs Wilson, she would treat Mrs Wilson to her desserts generously and chat with Mrs Wilson in order to comfort the elderly woman and make Mrs Wilson feel she was cared about. Influenced by Sarah’s kindness, Mrs Wilson gradually worked through her sorrow. While enjoying Sarah’s desserts, Mrs Wilson shared her baking stories and valuable baking experience without reservation with Sarah and offered her tips on opening a bakery after knowing Sarah’s dream.
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the park. Sarah’s small table was not merely a place to buy desserts; it turned into a symbol of caring for the elderly. Mrs Wilson, once a lonely woman, found herself being surrounded by a group of new friends, whose company helped her get out of loneliness. Assisted by Mrs Wilson, the small table has grown into a shop. Sarah’s bakery has been on the up and up with a constant stream of visitors, who are attracted by both the lovely smell and the moving story.Period Five Writing

This is going to sound weird, but I want you to look closely for a moment at your thumbs. See how they bend flexibly forwards as well as back. The human thumb is not just a device for giving the thumbs-up sign or for picking up dropped keys. It is also one of the most efficient and sensitive tools in existence for determining the ripeness of fruit.
However, most of us don’t use them that way anymore. One of the most striking things about eating in the modern world is that we act as if we were sense-blind. Our noses can distinguish fresh milk from sour milk, and yet we prefer to look at the use-by date rather than sniff. Senses, wrote the late anthropologist Jack Goody, are “our windows on the world” —the main tools through which humans acquire information about our environments.
But today, we have yielded many of the functions of our own senses to the modern food industry—which suits that industry just fine. A survey of 7,000 young people in 2011 found that most of them would be hypothetically (假设地) prepared to give up their sense of smell if it meant that they could keep their laptop or phone.
In reality, it is not easy to live without a sense of smell. According to the survey data produced by Fifth Sense, more than half of the respondents having smell loss said that cooking had become a source of stress and anxiety because they could no longer experience the joy of trying new recipes, and could not easily tell when something was burned, which even increases feelings of loneliness and depression and leads to the breakdown of relationships.
No human activity is more multi-sensory than eating, but to eat in the modern world is often to eat in a state of profound sensory disengagement. We order groceries on a computer, or takeaways on a phone, and they arrive wrapped in plastic, so that we can neither smell them nor see them before we take the first mouthful.

A.To show the addiction to the Internet.
B.To focus on the senseless young people.

A.Daily troubles of sense loss.

Sarah, a high school student, had a great passion for baking. With her parents’ support, Sarah dreamed of opening her own bakery, a place where she could turn her interest into a business. However, she knew the importance of improving her skills and gaining real-world experience.
Therefore, every Saturday, without fail, she would set up a small but charming table at a local park. The park, filled with families and laughter, was the perfect place for Sarah to sell her creations. Her table, neatly laid out with colourful home-made cookies and cakes, attracted passers-by with the desserts’ smell.
On a particularly bright and sunny afternoon, as Sarah was carefully arranging her chocolate cookies and cakes, her attention was drawn to an elderly woman sitting alone on a bench. The woman, with her silver hair and sad eyes, seemed lost in thought. As the hours went by, Sarah noticed that the woman remained where she was, seemingly forgotten by the world. A sense of concern washed over Sarah. So she decided to act. She poured a cup of warm tea carefully and cut a generous slice of her rich chocolate cake, a crowd favourite, and approached the woman.
“I thought you might like some snacks,” Sarah said with a warm, inviting smile. The woman’s face lit up as she accepted the treat. “Thank you, dear. I haven’t had such a delicious treat since my retirement,” she responded, her voice soft yet filled with gratitude. As she enjoyed the cake, tears rolled down her face.
A little shocked, Sarah asked what had happened. The woman introduced herself as Mrs Wilson, who had been a baker before she retired. Since losing her husband to cancer a week ago, she had been living alone. Her visits to the park were her escape from the loneliness that filled her quiet home. Sarah listened attentively, her heart touched by the woman’s story.
Paragraph 1:
Sarah decided to help Mrs Wilson out.

Paragraph 2:
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the park.

multi-sensory than eating, but to eat in the modern world is

order groceries on a computer, or takeaways on a phone, and
they arrive wrapped in plastic, so that we can neither smell
them nor see them before we take the first mouthful.”

Thank you!
One possible version:
Dear fellow students,
I'm Li Hua. It's my great privilege to deliver a speech
themed on leading a healthy life.
As we all know, health is far more important than wealth
and wisdom. Good health enables us to enjoy our life and
achieve what we hope for in our career. When it comes to
how to stay healthy, some fundamental principles should be
brought in mind.
Firstly, it is very important for us to keep a balanced diet
and maintain regular eating habits. In addition, we'd better
work out frequently to build up our body and character.
Besides, we have to avoid too much work or study pressure.
Getting too tired all the time may definitely weaken our defense
system, making us get sick easily.
In conclusion, let's take action and make a promise to lead
healthy lives!
Thank you!
Sarah, a high school student, had a great passion for
baking. With her parents' support, Sarah dreamed of opening
her own bakery, a place where she could turn her interest into
a business. However, she knew the importance of improving her
skills and gaining real-world experience.
Therefore, every Saturday, without fail, she would set up a
small but charming table at a local park. The park, filled with
families and laughter, was the perfect place for Sarah to sell her
creations. Her table, neatly laid out with colourful home-made
cookies and cakes, attracted passers-by with the desserts' smell.
On a particularly bright and sunny afternoon, as Sarah was
carefully arranging her chocolate cookies and cakes, her
attention was drawn to an elderly woman sitting alone on a
bench. The woman, with her silver hair and sad eyes, seemed
lost in thought. As the hours went by, Sarah noticed that the
woman remained where she was, seemingly forgotten by the
world. A sense of concern washed over Sarah. So she decided
to act. She poured a cup of warm tea carefully and cut a
generous slice of her rich chocolate cake, a crowd favourite, and
approached the woman.
“I thought you might like some snacks,” Sarah said with a
warm, inviting smile. The woman's face lit up as she accepted
the treat. “Thank you, dear. I haven't had such a delicious treat
since my retirement,” she responded, her voice soft yet filled
with gratitude. As she enjoyed the cake, tears rolled down her
face.
A little shocked, Sarah asked what had happened. The
woman introduced herself as Mrs Wilson, who had been a
baker before she retired. Since losing her husband to cancer a
week ago, she had been living alone. Her visits to the park
were her escape from the loneliness that filled her quiet home.
Sarah listened attentively, her heart touched by the woman's
story.
Paragraph 1:
Sarah decided to help Mrs Wilson out.________________________
Paragraph 2:
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the

One possible version:
Sarah decided to help Mrs Wilson out. Every Saturday, as
Sarah saw Mrs Wilson, she would treat Mrs Wilson to her
desserts generously and chat with Mrs Wilson in order to
comfort the elderly woman and make Mrs Wilson feel she
was cared about. Influenced by Sarah's kindness,Mrs Wilson
gradually worked through her sorrow. While enjoying Sarah's
desserts, Mrs Wilson shared her baking stories and valuable
baking experience without reservation with Sarah and offered
her tips on opening a bakery after knowing Sarah's dream.
Over time, their unlikely friendship became noticed in the
park. Sarah's small table was not merely a place to buy desserts;
it turned into a symbol of caring for the elderly. Mrs Wilson,
once a lonely woman, found herself being surrounded by a
group of new friends, whose company helped her get out of
loneliness. Assisted by Mrs Wilson, the small table has grown
into a shop. Sarah's bakery has been on the up and up with a
constant stream of visitors, who are attracted by both the
lovely smell and the moving story.
