根据第一段“Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise (青绿色) Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards.”以及第二段中“One day, Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbours by hosting a party.”
根据最后一段中“A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world.”
根据第二段中“‘After the party, I painted the table turquoise—my favourite colour—and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,’ she says.” 根据第四段中“Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea.”
通读全文,根据第一段“Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise (青绿色) Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards.”和最后一段“A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world.” 故选A项。
1.C 根据上文“Through the Rotaract programme, young adults can meet new people and learn new skills.”
2.A 根据下文“My feet were wet within minutes of getting there!” 故选A。
3.F 根据下文“…making sure no unauthorised people got on it during the show.”
4.B 下文“It might not always involve meeting celebrities or doing something new and exciting, but it can always be fun.”
5.G 上文提到“We gave up our time to help out at the festival, despite the bad weather, with no idea of what our role would be.”,但下文却提到“For example, we got more chairs for the stage when required.”,即作者还做了其他的事情,比如为舞台提供更多的椅子。
Ⅲ.第一节
One possible version:
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you the voluntary work I did in the local nursing house last weekend.
On our arrival, we were divided into groups and assigned tasks respectively. For the duration of the event, I accompanied the seniors for outdoor walks and helped them learn to use electronic devices. Also, I assisted in organizing recreational activities, such as board games and craft sessions.
Interacting with the elderly was incredibly rewarding. These activities not only allowed them to feel cared for and warm, but also gave me an opportunity to experience the joy of helping others and contributing to society.
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
On the pier, a crowd had gathered. From somewhere, the onlookers found a rope and a life preserver, which they threw to James and Raphael. The friends put the victim’s arms and head through the life preserver and tied the rope around his body. With the two men pushing from below and the crowd pulling from above, the man’s dangling body slowly rose until helping hands pulled him onto the pier. Both men were thoroughly exhausted from the urgent rescue mission in the water.
Suddenly the man moved, breathing again. He lashed out confusedly, not knowing what was happening around. With the horn blowing, an ambulance and rescue workers came timely, loaded the nearly drowned man into the ambulance and drove away. James and Raphael never learned who he was, what became of him or how he’d fallen into the river. “If I know I’m capable,” James says, “why wouldn’t I help ” Raphael adds, laughing, “People always say ‘If your friend jumps off a cliff, are you jumping ’. I think I answered that one.”Period Five Writing

Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise (青绿色) Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards. Ten years ago, she and her family moved to a new home in Austin, Texas.
One day, Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbours by hosting a party. She bought a few picnic tables but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake. “After the party, I painted the table turquoise—my favourite colour—and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,” she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games, did crafts and ate snacks. “We got intentional about where we spent our time,” Kristin says. “We became ‘front yard people’.”
Neighbours began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat. Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbours asked Kristin if their family could put a picnic table in their front yard too. A movement was born. “It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,” she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy, it’s not big enough or they don’t have enough time. “Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of connecting with others,” Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step towards easing loneliness and building relationships in her community. “People’s greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,” she says.
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world. Not all of them are actually turquoise. “No matter what colour it is, it’s a friendship table,” Kristin says.

James, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, was just one week into his new job on Wall Street. Over the past month, he’d been settling into the New York City apartment he was sharing with his college friend, an artificial intelligence engineer named Raphael.
Last week, the two met at lunchtime on Pier (码头) 15, overlooking the East River, when James froze. “Somebody’s in the water,” he said. Before Raphael could respond, James climbed over the rail (栏杆) at the edge of the pier and jumped into the cold, polluted water without taking the time to remove his shoes.
What James had heard was an anxious fisherman shouting from Pier 16, nearly 50 yards away, “Help! He’s in the water!” And what he’d seen was a person floating, lifeless.
Raphael didn’t need to see the victim. “Maybe James saw someone in the water who needs our help,” he thought. “Or maybe it’s James who needs my help. Either way, I’m going in.” He took off his shoes and dived.
Approaching the unconscious victim, James saw that it was a middle-aged man. He was big, around 200 pounds, respectably dressed and sinking fast. He was 3 feet below the surface by the time James reached him. The rescuer dived, felt around, grasped the man and kicked upward until they both got out of the surface. Raphael was there now. In the water, the two friends floated the man on his back. As Raphael put his arms around the man’s shoulders and James supported the bottom and knees, the pair pulled the man back to Pier 15. Their lungs heaved and their muscles burned as they pushed and pulled the immobile figure through the water.
They might have been dragging a dead body. The man’s skin was blue, and neither Raphael nor James detected any breathing. When at last they reached Pier 15, they faced a new uncertainty. How to get out of the water The shore was half metre above their heads.
Paragraph 1:
On the pier, a crowd had gathered.

Paragraph 2:
Suddenly the man moved, breathing again.

One possible version:
Dear Chris,
I'm writing to share with you the voluntary work. .I did in
the local nursing house last weekend.
On our arrival, we were divided into groups and assigned
tasks respectively. For the duration of the event, I
accompanied the seniors for outdoor walks and helped them
learn to use electronic devices. Also, I assisted in organizing
recreational activities, such as board games and craft sessions.
Interacting with the elderly was incredibly rewarding.
These activities not only allowed them to feel cared for and
warm, but also gave me an opportunity to experience the
joy of helping others and contributing to society.
Yours,
Li Hua
James, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, was
just one week into his new job on Wall Street. Over the past
month, he'd been settling into the New York City apartment he
was sharing with his college friend, an artificial intelligence
engineer named Raphael.
Last week, the two met at lunchtime on Pier (码头) 15,
overlooking the East River, when James froze. “Somebody's in
the water,” he said. Before Raphael could respond, James
climbed over the rail (栏杆) at the edge of the pier and jumped
into the cold, polluted water without taking the time to remove
his shoes.
What James had heard was an anxious fisherman shouting
from Pier 16, nearly 50 yards away, “Help! He's in the water!”
And what he'd seen was a person floating, lifeless.
Raphael didn't need to see the victim. “Maybe James saw
someone in the water who needs our help,” he thought. “Or
maybe it's James who needs my help. Either way, I'm going in.”
He took off his shoes and dived.
Approaching the unconscious victim, James saw that it was
a middle-aged man. He was big, around 200 pounds,
respectably dressed and sinking fast. He was 3 feet below the
surface by the time James reached him. The rescuer dived, felt
around, grasped the man and kicked upward until they both
got out of the surface. Raphael was there now. In the water,
the two friends floated the man on his back. As Raphael put his
arms around the man's shoulders and James supported the
bottom and knees, the pair pulled the man back to Pier
15.Their lungs heaved and their muscles burned as they pushed
and pulled the immobile figure through the water.
They might have been dragging a dead body. The man's
skin was blue, and neither Raphael nor James detected any
breathing. When at last they reached Pier 15, they faced a new
uncertainty. How to get out of the water The shore was half
metre above their heads.
Paragraph 1:
On the pier, a crowd had gathered._________________________
Paragraph 2:
Suddenly the man moved, breathing again.___________________
________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
On the pier, a crowd had gathered. From somewhere, the
onlookers found a rope and a life preserver, which they threw
to James and Raphael. The friends put the victim's arms and
head through the life preserver and tied the rope around his
body. With the two men pushing from below and the crowd
pulling from above, the man's dangling body slowly rose until
helping hands pulled him onto the pier. Both men were
thoroughly exhausted from the urgent rescue mission in the
water.
Suddenly the man moved, breathing again. He lashed out
confusedly, not knowing what was happening around. With
the horn blowing, an ambulance and rescue workers came
timely, loaded the nearly drowned man into the ambulance
and drove away. James and Raphael never learned who he was,
what became of him or how he'd fallen into the river. “If I
know I'm capable,” James says, “why wouldn't I help ” Raphael
adds, laughing, “People always say ‘If your friend jumps off a
cliff, are you jumping ’. I think I answered that one.”
