第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, we highly recommend four films about war.
Schindler’s List (1993)
The film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who risked everything to save over 1,200 Jews from the horrors of Nazi. Shot in contrasting black and white, it vividly captures the cruelty and sufferings of the war, emphasizes the value of every human life and offers an insightful reflection on the power of good.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Set in 1944 Normandy, the film hits home with the bloody opening scene of Omaha Beach. Captain Miller led a team to rescue Private Ryan, whose three brothers were all killed in the war. The shaky camera movements create a realistic sense of chaos, urgency and violence. Overall, the film is a profound exploration of the meaning of war, human nature and the value of life.
The Pianist (2002)
Based on a true story, the film portrays a Polish-Jewish pianist’s survival from the war. Unlike other war films, it focuses on the pianist’s intense and desperate fight for existence instead of grand heroism, showing the weakness of life and the strength of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable horror. Its realistic portrayal of war and the strategic use of silence and pauses make it a timeless cinematic experience.
Dunkirk (2017)
The film focuses on the withdrawal of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in May and June 1940. The film captures the desperation of the trapped soldiers and the bravery of the civilian and military personnel who came to their rescue. The director artfully tells three stories at the same time and uses wide sweeping shots to make the audience feel as if they were at the scene.
1. What is the common theme of Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan
A. The value of life. B. The love of country.
C. The power of good. D. The weakness of life.
2. Which film focuses on an individual’s desperate struggle for survival in the war
A. Schindler’s List. B. The Pianist.
C. Saving Private Ryan. D. Dunkirk.
3. What technique is used in Dunkirk
A. Silence and pauses. B. Wide sweeping shots.
C. Black-and-white cinematography. D. Shaky camera movements.
B
Juan came from a very poor, single parent home. Throughout the year, I noticed that Juan had an unusual ability to solve equations, and to correlate abstract relationships between concepts. I was shocked when he approached me after school one day to tell me that he liked chemistry, but failed to think that he was intelligent enough to attend college. He asked me what he should do with his life.
I praised Juan’s talent and encouraged him not to waste it. His eyes lit up as I explained how scholarships, loans, and grants could make college possible, then invited him to join my advanced placement chemistry class next year. After promising to reconsider his future, Juan surprised me the next morning during my jog by appearing on my lawn, declaring cheerfully, “I’ve decided to take your AP class.”
Juan was my best student that year in advanced placement chemistry. His skills and abilities continued to grow, and he never tired of mind-bending calculations or homework. He literally blossomed before my eyes. As the end of the year approached, Juan thanked me for my interest in his life. I was profoundly moved when he told me that those fifteen or twenty minutes that we had talked the previous year had changed his life. He got an A on the advanced placement chemistry exam and he was awarded enough scholarship assistance that he was able to attend the local university.
My experiences with Juan contributed to my decision to remain in the classroom. My love for my students and for the subject I teach has continued to grow over the years. I consider myself most fortunate to be a chemistry teacher, and to have been a part of so many young lives, hopes, and dreams!
4. What was Juan’s initial attitude towards his own academic abilities
A. Confident about college. B. Excelled in chemistry.
C. Avoided challenges. D. Doubted university chances.
5. Which of the following best explain “literally blossomed before my eyes” underlined in paragraph 3
A. Became physically taller. B. Improved social skills.
C. Showed amazing growth. D. Planted lab experiments.
6. Which of the following best describes the teacher
A. Knowledgeable and patient. B. Sympathetic and helpful.
C. Passionate and intelligent. D. Approachable and persistent.
7. What was the long-term impact of Juan’s story on the teacher
A. Won teaching awards. B. Changed subjects taught.
C. Focused on poor students. D. Stayed in teaching.
C
When the patient arrives, it can barely move its body. The parrot tries to spread its green wings — and fails — to fly. It is just one of dozens of rainbow lorikeets (彩虹鹦鹉) being treated for a mysterious paralyzing (瘫痪) illness. Cases of what is called lorikeet paralysis syndrome (LPS) have been increasing over the past decade, says vet Claude Lacasse. But scientists are puzzled as to what is causing it.
Lacasse has partnered with several researchers to try solving the mystery. So far, they’ve ruled out hundreds of human-made chemicals as well as various infectious diseases. Their current theory is that LPS is caused by a plant the birds are eating, something that flowers or fruits between late spring and early fall — when cases always rise.
But researchers have no idea which plant or plants might be involved, why the disease is getting worse or whether climate change is playing a role. For now, the main concern is figuring out everything the sick lorikeets are eating.
Ecologist Rachele Wilson used a technique involving testing DNA in sick birds’ droppings to match it to specific plant DNA. These data suggest the birds are feeding on more than 130 plant species, at least 30 of which are potentially poisonous. Other researchers are not just looking at plant DNA but also at bacterial and animal DNA to allow for the possibility that the birds are swallowing a poisonous insect in fruit, or a poison produced by bacteria found on a plant.
It’s possible climate change plays a role by driving rainbow lorikeets to seek out unusual food sources. Animals are broadening their hunting range and going into more traditionally uninviting areas to find food, including fruit, seeds and, strangely, even meat.
With climate change causing more extreme weather events and intensely hot summers, the need to find what’s paralyzing rainbow lorikeets — and potentially other species — is of urgent concern.
“They’re amazing birds,” Phalen says. “It’s hard to see them as sick as they are.”
8. What are researchers trying to find out first
A. Why LPS is getting worse. B. Where rainbow lorikeets usually gather.
C. How human-made chemicals led to LPS. D. What lorikeets are feeding on at present.
9. What does Wilson focus on in her study
A. Collecting DNA data from specific animals.
B. Analyzing DNA in the waste of sick lorikeets.
C. Identifying DNA hidden in different plants.
D. Looking at plant, bacterial and animal DNA.
10. How does climate change possibly influence rainbow lorikeets
A. Increasing the variety of their diets.
B. Enlarging the habitats of these birds.
C. Adapting themselves to extreme weather events.
D. Forcing them to swallow a poisonous insect in fruit.
11. What is the best title for the text
A. Endangered rare species in Australia
B. Strange diseases striking Australian birds
C. The mystery of Australia’s paralyzed parrots
D. The influence of climate change on animals
D
In their recent book, The AI Con, linguist Emily M. Bender and social scientist Alex Hanna critically analyze the widespread exaggeration (夸大) about artificial intelligence (AI). They argue that the exaggerated claims of AI’s transformative power cover the real, ongoing harms it is already causing.
Bender and Hanna argue that companies are using AI to reduce costs by undermining human jobs. Contrary to popular belief, “AI is not going to replace your job,” they maintain, but it will likely transform your job into one that is undervalued and less paid. Here, they refer to recent labor actions, such as the 2023 strikes by Hollywood writers and actors, as cases illustrating workers’ resistance to AI-generated content.
In fields such as education, the use of automated decision-making systems often reflects the overconfidence in AI’s capacity. The adoption of AI, the authors maintain, overlooks fundamental human interactions, falsely assuming that “seeking the right answers is all that is needed for education.”
The book also evaluates exaggerated claims about AI’s impact on creative and scientific fields, particularly regarding its destructive effects on art, journalism, and scientific practice. The authors argue that AI-generated artistic creativity is, most of the time, based on statistical probabilities rather than real understanding.
Bender and Hanna conclude their book by arguing that the exaggeration about AI primarily benefits major companies, investors, and governments that use technology and by calling for a critical examination of AI systems: “What is being automated ” and “Who benefits... and who is harmed ”
While the book offers an interesting viewpoint, it provides only a partial view of the current AI landscape. Large language models (LLMs) have shown promising capabilities in fields such as biomedicine and ecology. This potential application is particularly noticeable considering the new path opened by agentic AI, an area the book does not cover.
12. What is the main idea of the book The AI Con
A. AI’s impact is transformative. B. AI causes widespread concern.
C. AI’s harm is underestimated. D. AI prevents potential problems.
13. What is the case of the 2023 strikes intended to prove
A. AI can replace human jobs. B. AI cannot generate quality content.
C. AI devalues human work. D. AI reduces the cost of production.
14. Which change may be brought by AI according to Bender and Hanna
A. More higher-paying jobs. B. Increased interactions in class.
C. Explosive creativity in art. D. More benefits to capital owners.
15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. The book skips some AI uses. B. Agentic AI is overvalued.
C. LLMs are relatively short-lived. D. AI has limited application.

Laura Mulvihill, a volunteer at the community center, felt the ride was probably very unusual when she picked up 89-year-old Ronald Dembner from the Veteran’s Hospital in Henry County, Georgia. It was obvious that he was struggling and in bad shape. But it wasn’t until they arrived at his home that her worst doubts were confirmed. Expecting to be greeted by family members, she was greeted by something out of a nightmare (噩梦) episode of Hoarders instead.
Mr. Ronald’s home was covered with rubbish. The kitchen was crowded with old, dirty dishes and leftovers. The carpets were smelly and worn, with visible tracks of dirt. The walls were covered with cobwebs (蜘蛛网) in the corners. To make the situation worse, the room smelt absolutely terrible, and there was no railing (扶手) on the stairs. Hardly could anyone imagine that a man should live in such a poor condition.
After talking with Mr. Ronald, Mulvihill learned that all of Ronald’s family members had passed away, he had no one to assist him. Even the home care nurses had stopped coming to visit as a result of the extremely awful living conditions. He was completely alone, except for his dog, Homer, who had taken to pooping (排便) in the house. Although he was unable to clean up the house by himself, he didn’t dare to reach out for help, for fear of being forced to a nursing home and losing his dog.
Horrified by what she witnessed, Mulvihill decided to take matters into her own hands. She knew it would take a team to make things right, so she called her friends and family members one by one and told them about the situation. Luckily, she found 10 warm-hearted people offering to help. The team was eventually formed.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The team of volunteers came forward to help, with a desire to make a difference.

【答案】Dear Daniel,
How is everything going with you I am more than willing to provide you with assistance for the upcoming contest organized by our school. It’s great to see your interest in Chinese culture!
To prepare for the contest, here are a few suggestions. Firstly, you can start by familiarizing yourself with some famous ancient Chinese poets like Li Bai, Du Fu, and Wang Wei. To enhance your understanding of their styles and themes, you can use online resources to learn about the dynasties when they lived and their life experiences. Secondly, it is necessary to study different poetic forms such as quatrains, couplets, and regulated verses. It will help if you pay attention to the rules and structures that govern each form. What’s more, memorize a few popular poems and practice reciting them. This will help you appreciate the beauty of the language and improve your pronunciation.
Remember, practice makes perfect! Wish you all the best in the contest!
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】The team of volunteers came forward to help, with a desire to make a difference. Equipped with brooms and mops, they immediately got down to work. It took them hours to completely clean up the poop of Homer, wash the dirty carpet and build a new railing for the stairs. When they finally put everything in order, the volunteers decided that they would also come up with a plan for further support. They posted the pictures of Mr. Ronald and his newly decorated house on social media, gave a detailed description of the situation and appealed to more people to offer a helping hand. (89词)
Seeing the post from the Internet, more people joined in, donating their time and resources. They even organized a schedule to take turns to visit Mr. Ronald weekly, ensuring he had all the support he needed to maintain his home and chasing away his loneliness. The busy and cheerful volunteers moved Mr. Ronald to tears. He couldn’t help but thank them over and over again. Seeing the brand new house and the grateful face of Mr. Ronald, Mulvihill was amazed how her single act of kindness rippled outward and ended up with something remarkable. (79词)
